00:00With the UNC government about to celebrate one year in office, how would you rate their performance on a scale
00:06of 1 to 10, 10 being excellent?
00:0910 being excellent? I would say 3.
00:14It's a failing grade for the government from the opposition leader, who says the government is yet to start delivering
00:22on any of its key campaign promises.
00:25And if you go through the manifesto and the multiplicity of promises, let's start with employment, yes, 20,000.
00:34But as soon as you come in, within months, you fire almost 20,000.
00:40And then you keep going up and you keep going up.
00:43So the critical things for the people, employment, let's talk about housing.
00:47You're going to build 500 houses a week. When is that starting?
00:51The opposition leader says the government is also failing on the economic front, particularly where it concerns the energy sector.
01:00All this narco-trafficking, all kinds of accusations of Venezuela.
01:06And what are you saying today now? You want your fair share.
01:09Fair share of the same Delcy Rodriguez that was a narco-trafficker and you want it to have nothing to
01:18do with.
01:18It's when the Minister of Planning is saying about what regional cooperation will do for business.
01:24I mean, they now realize that regional cooperation will help us in business after what they have done to CARICOM.
01:30So you can go through CARICOM as well.
01:31I mean, there are very few, if any, things that I can say that this government has succeeded at.
01:37And with nurses engaged in ongoing protest action, and the Ministry of Education now moving towards e-learning tools,
01:46Beckel says the failures continue.
01:49Telling us now about digital education and they are going into a direction where Sweden and other countries are saying,
01:56listen, that has not helped students.
01:59So we are going in a direction now where other countries who have tried it over the last 20 years
02:04are saying,
02:06we're not going in that direction.
02:08I mean, look at the health care.
02:10Look at the crisis in the health care.
02:12So I'm asking, what really can this government say they perform?
02:17But perhaps the largest failure of all, according to the PNM, is the government's handling of the crime situation.
02:25Opposition Chief Whip Marvin Gonzalez has the following message for the Prime Minister.
02:31They are going to celebrate in a mass rally on Saturday.
02:35But I want to tell Kamala Posad-Bissessa,
02:39that rally that you propose to have on Saturday should, in fact, be the biggest national week in the Republic
02:48of Trinidad and Tobago.
02:50That is what they should be convening to do on Saturday.
02:55Not a rally to celebrate, but a convention to celebrate and to observe a week for what they have done
03:04to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
03:05As at midday today, there were 111 homicides recorded, compared to 124 for the same period last year.
