In early 2026, escalating tensions between the United States and Iran led to a dramatic naval confrontation, including a reported torpedo strike on the Iranian vessel IRIS Dena near Sri Lanka, followed by bold claims from Donald Trump that Iran’s navy had been largely destroyed—claims widely seen as exaggerated compared to official figures. Iran condemned the attack as an “atrocity,” while emphasizing that its naval strength remains intact, particularly through the asymmetric capabilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy. As the conflict unfolded, Iran moved to assert control over the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting global shipping and spiking oil prices, while the U.S. responded with a naval blockade and seizures of Iranian-linked vessels. Subsequent incidents, including Iran targeting and seizing ships in Hormuz, have kept tensions at a boiling point, with both sides projecting strength and issuing warnings—leaving the true balance of power uncertain and the region on the edge of further escalation.

00:26March 4, 2026, in the Indian Ocean,
00:29just 19 nautical miles off the coast of Sri Lanka,
00:33a torpedo is launched from beneath the waves.
00:36The target? The Iris Denna.
00:38At least 87 sailors dead, 61 more missing.
00:43The submarine that fired? The USS Charlotte.
00:47And Donald Trump? He couldn't wait to talk about it.
00:50Speaking to reporters after stepping off Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews,
00:55Trump declared,
00:56Their military is destroyed. Their whole navy is underwater.
01:00You know that 158 ships are gone. Their navy is gone.
01:05Most of their mine droppers are gone.
01:07He didn't stop there. In separate remarks to Fox News,
01:11Trump said,
01:19Strong words. Big numbers. But were they true?
01:22And that brings us to the man at the center of today's video,
01:26Major General Amir Hatami,
01:29Commander-in-Chief of Iran's Army,
01:31a veteran of the Iran-Iraq War.
01:33They're saying that we have completely eliminated your navy.
01:37This naval force, which they have repeatedly claimed to be completely destroyed and gone,
01:43today stands firm, resolute, and unwavering.
01:46They are consistently compelled to maintain a significant distance of 200 to 300 kilometers
01:51from this very naval power.
01:54But here's the thing. It's not entirely without basis.
01:58Iran's naval forces aren't a single entity.
02:01They're split between two very different structures.
02:04You have the IRYN, the regular Islamic Republic of Iran Navy,
02:09and then you have the IRGCN, the Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy,
02:14built for something entirely different.
02:16Fast attack craft, swarm tactics, mines.
02:19That second force? It's still very much operational.
02:24After the war began in late February 2026,
02:27Iran moved to exert control over the Strait of Hormuz,
02:31one of the most critical shipping lanes on Earth,
02:34carrying roughly 20 percent of the world's oil.
02:37Major container shipping companies, including Maersk, CMA CGM, and Hapog Lloyd,
02:42suspended all transits through the strait.
02:45Oil prices went through the roof.
02:47Then came the U.S. counterpunch.
02:50After peace talks in Islamabad collapsed on April 12, 2026,
02:54Trump declared a full U.S. naval blockade.
02:58And then on April 20, something remarkable happened.
03:01U.S. forces fired on and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship,
03:06the MV Tosca,
03:07after it attempted to bypass the naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman.
03:11Marines rappled from helicopters onto its deck.
03:15Iran was furious.
03:17Iran's foreign ministry called the seizure extremely dangerous and criminal and vowed to retaliate.
03:23And then, just this week, April 22,
03:26Iran attacked at least three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz,
03:30just hours after Trump extended the ceasefire.
03:33Iran's Revolutionary Guard Navy seized two of those vessels, claiming maritime violations.
03:40So what about that 300-kilometer line?
03:43Is the U.S. Navy really keeping its distance out of fear?
03:46Here's the honest answer.
03:48It's complicated.
03:50Trump says the Iranian Navy is gone.
03:52Hatami says it's never been stronger.
03:55The truth?
03:56It's somewhere in between,
03:57and the Strait of Hormuz is the battlefield where that argument is being settled in real time.
04:03Hatami himself declared that the Iranian armed forces stand ready to confront any threat
04:09with firm determination, watchful eyes, and ire will and fingers on the trigger.
04:14Whether that's confidence or desperation, only the next few days will tell.
