00:00In your book, The Real Anthony Fauci, you wrote, and I quote,
00:06a doctrinal canon of the germ theory credits vaccines for the dramatic declines of infectious disease mortalities in North America
00:16and Europe during the 20th century.
00:19Most Americans accept this claim as dogma.
00:22It will therefore come as a surprise to learn that it is simply untrue.
00:29But, despite your assertion in your book, according to a peer-reviewed study in The Lancet, led by the World
00:36Health Organization,
00:38vaccines have saved the lives of more than 150 million people and reduced infant deaths by 40% over the
00:48past 50 years.
00:50So my question is a simple one.
00:52Do you still believe that one of the central tenets of the germ theory that vaccines sharply reduce infant mortality
01:00is, quote, unquote, simply untrue?
01:03What I was saying in that book, first of all, the study you cited is a modeling study.
01:09It's a modeling study.
01:11CDC has actually done a real study that answers that question.
01:17It's called Geyer, G-U-Y-E-R, 2000.
01:21And it says that the 80% mortality in chronic disease that took place, in mortalities from chronic disease that
01:30took place in the 20th century,
01:32that almost none of it was attributable to vaccination, it was attributable to hygiene, to sewer plants, better water supplies,
01:44to engineering.
01:45I've got oranges.
01:46I have to interrupt you because I have other questions.
01:49You're entitled to your view.
01:51That's my view.
01:52That's CDC's view.
01:53Well, you're entitled to CDC's view.
01:56But according to the World Health Organization and scientists all over the world, vaccines have played an enormous role in
02:06saving lives.
02:07I don't contest that.
02:08I'm just saying if you want to talk about why disease mortalities disappeared in the 20th century, it was not
02:16vaccines.
02:16Well, you are in a minority of the people.
02:19I'm just talking about...
02:20All right.
02:20I've got other questions.
02:21One second.
02:22All right.
02:22Science is not a democracy.
02:23Secretary Kennedy, a lot of our kids are eating ultra-processed food, foods high in sugar.
02:31We have, as you know, an epidemic in obesity in this country.
02:36We spend zillions of dollars dealing with diabetes caused by obesity.
02:40I believe that we should follow countries like Chile, Mexico, and put strong warning labels on products
02:48that will show parents that will show parents about the nature of the food their kids are eating.
02:57So my question to you is, how long will it take before your agency puts strong warning labels on unhealthy
03:07food and beverages?
03:08Early in April, we did our final regulations of finally having a definition for what ultra-processed food is.
03:19That is now in the interagency process.
03:21We have no control over what happens there with the other agencies.
03:25As soon as it comes back to us, we're going to do the labeling record.
03:28All right, let me ask you this.
03:29President Trump's nominee for Surgeon General Casey Means told this committee that she agreed with me that junk food ads
03:38in the United States should be banned from TV.
03:41What do you think?
03:42Do you agree with her?
03:46I would support that.
03:49Good.
03:49In other words, what we're seeing now is these big food industry companies spending huge amounts of money telling kids
03:57to eat crap.
03:59And I think it would make a lot of sense if we banned those ads from TV.
04:04I'm hearing you saying that you agree with me on that.
04:06The only hesitation I was was we tried to do a smoking ban on TV.
04:13And the tobacco companies voluntarily came to the table, which was a good thing.
04:18And I think the same arguments apply for junk food.
04:22They're probably even worse for Americans than smoking.
04:25Good.
04:26Well, Art, I would hope you take a leadership role in making it clear that we should get these ads,
04:31which just entice kids or dick kids, to really bad food off the air.
04:36All right?
04:36Good.
