Chuck Schumer has sharply criticized Donald Trump over the escalating Iran conflict, warning that the situation is worsening with each passing day. Referring to reports of over 415 U.S. personnel injured in the Middle East, Schumer argued that continued military engagement is pushing diplomacy further out of reach. “Deeper into a hole,” he said, claiming the conflict has strengthened hardline elements in Iran rather than weakening them. The remarks highlight growing political divisions in Washington over strategy, accountability, and the long-term consequences of U.S. actions in the region.

00:00Every day this disastrous war continues, Donald Trump digs himself deeper and deeper and deeper
00:07into a hole.
00:08The longer Trump waits to extricate himself from Iran, the deeper the hole gets and the
00:15harder it will be for him to get out.
00:19The Iranian regime is trying to negotiate, the Iranian regime that the U.S. is trying
00:27to negotiate with is even more hardline than when Trump began the war.
00:33Iran's hold over Hormuz has gotten even stronger.
00:37Iran maintains its economic stranglehold on the world, firing on more merchant ships in
00:43the Straits of Hormuz earlier today.
00:47So it's amazing.
00:49Before the war, the regime in Iran, bad as it was, was not as dug in as this one is,
00:55making
00:56it even harder to negotiate.
00:59Before the war, oil was flowing freely out of the Strait of Hormuz.
01:03Now it's all clogged up.
01:06Everything Trump did with this war has made things worse.
01:11And he keeps digging himself into this hole, deeper and deeper.
01:16The American people are fed up, seeing this war as reckless, as harmful, and as costly,
01:24a misadventure as there has ever been.
01:27Trump's continued enthusiasm for the war makes me wonder.
01:31Has he somehow mixed up the graphs showing his crumbling approving raddles with those
01:36showing the soaring price of oil and gas?
01:40Let's sort it out for him.
01:42Trump's approval rating is at an all-time low.
01:45Only 33% approve of him in the most recent polls.
01:52Trump's approval on the economy is even lower, at 30%.
01:56In part, because the price of oil and gas has gone up and up and up.
02:04Trump's standing in the eyes of the American people craters every day that this war continues.
02:10Meanwhile, gas has been over $4 a gallon for weeks, the highest it's been in years.
02:16Americans are going to pay at least $740 more this year to fill up their tanks.
02:22Because of Trump's war, that's money that could have gone to other things.
02:26More groceries, some furniture, who knows?
02:29But it's now going into the hands of the oil merchants.
02:36Every day, we hear new promises from the Trump administration that victory's been achieved.
02:41Victory's just around the corner, he keeps saying.
02:45But when you look around the corner, that hasn't happened.
02:49Trump says peace is at hand.
02:51Costs are starting to come down.
02:53Both lies.
02:54And every day, we see the opposite.
02:56Trump can talk all he wants, but nothing will change, nothing, until he realizes this war has to end.
03:08While I'm relieved that the ceasefire deadline has been extended, Congress needs to seize this opportunity to stop this blunder
03:15before the fighting resumes.
03:17I urge Senate Republicans to vote for our war powers resolution later today.
03:24That's their fifth opportunity to do so.
03:27Republicans, if Trump won't dig himself out of the hole he's dug, you Republicans should pull him out by voting
03:37for our war powers resolution today.
03:40If not, you Republicans in the Senate are going to fall into the same hole, you're already falling into it.
03:48But if you don't dig him out of the hole, you're going to fall into this hole deeper and deeper
03:53alongside him.
03:55I thank Senator Baldwin for her work on this resolution.
04:00Democrats will continue to force votes on our resolution every week until Republicans see reason and help us end this
04:10war.
04:11They would be doing Donald Trump a favor.
04:14Republican senators would be doing Donald Trump a favor by supporting this resolution.
04:19And every week Republicans wait to do so will cost their party politically and the American people financially.
