00:00This time, on Highway Through Hell.
00:03Unreal.
00:04In the belly of the beast.
00:06Getting really up close and personal.
00:09Jamie.
00:10It's out.
00:11Powers through.
00:12Somebody went for a ride.
00:14Aggressive.
00:15I thought this was already burned, though.
00:17Sends big iron.
00:19That is a lot more truck than I thought.
00:21Into the back country.
00:23Got her.
00:23And cliring.
00:25It's a bad spot.
00:26Feels the squeeze.
00:28Getting real tight.
00:32So how's Highway 1 going towards the coach?
00:37In British Columbia's Rocky Mountains.
00:41Yeah, it's all the fuck.
00:43On the Trans-Canada Highway.
00:46I'm pulling a wreck out of this ditch, dude.
00:51I feel like I'm in the belly of the beast.
00:54Jamie Davis is entangled in his second day.
00:58Can you drop it or what?
01:01Of an unrelenting wreck.
01:04Why is it not going?
01:07Two nights ago.
01:10A fully loaded semi.
01:14Lost the road.
01:17And toppled down the steep bank.
01:24Last night.
01:25There's no way that that is 5,000 pounds.
01:30No way.
01:31Wrong information.
01:33Way more weight in here than what they're saying.
01:36Resulted in Jamie's recovery.
01:43Unreal.
01:44I'd never seen anything like it.
01:47Becoming bigger than he bargained for.
01:50Oh.
01:51And he only left.
01:54Now we dragged her home, boys.
01:57With the tractor.
01:59We had a plan.
02:01Had it all in line.
02:02We knew what we were going to do.
02:03We had it figured out.
02:04I know, man.
02:06But, you know, we got thrown a curve ball.
02:09What can you do about that?
02:14Today, they're cutting off the back of the trailer.
02:17You got it?
02:18Yeah.
02:20The main goal here is just to get the rear section of the trailer out.
02:24I'll hold it.
02:25And open up a pathway for us to recover the cargo.
02:30With the rear section free.
02:35And we'll put that towards the back end of the trailer.
02:38Jamie rakes to the trailer's rear wheels, or bogies, for the rollover.
02:45We're going to tie up the bogies and get it out of the way.
02:49You ready for the flip over?
02:51Are we good?
02:56You got to be real careful.
02:57You're in tight there.
02:58You're in a dangerous situation.
03:02Things could go really, really wrong.
03:04Really, really fast.
03:06Unreal.
03:32What's going on at number one?
03:34Oh, man.
03:35That looks in pretty bad shape.
03:37Just east of Revelstoke.
03:41Jamie.
03:43And his 50-ton.
03:47Are grappling with a torn trailer.
03:50Unreal.
04:00The bogies are on the road.
04:03OK, let's just unhook it.
04:04The main goal here is just to get the rear ends out of there.
04:07This part here has to get cut off.
04:10And then we'll go on to getting the cargo out tomorrow.
04:14But first, they'll try to tow the wreckage back to the yard.
04:24Towing it back, we don't have to bring a low bed.
04:26Makes it a little more efficient.
04:30Watch out!
04:34Yes, sir.
04:36Air 80.
04:40Even made road-ready.
04:45The bogies' 100-kilometer journey...
04:48I don't know how it'll tow.
04:50...will test Jamie.
04:53I'm worried the unit's too short.
04:56And it'll become a wiggle wagon and won't be towable.
05:00I'm going to chain up one axle and tow it on the second axle.
05:03So that it's a little longer and it won't wobble all over the roadway.
05:10That's a bit of a magic.
05:11It's got to be able to tow...
05:14safely.
05:15Can't play around.
05:17Serious stuff.
05:21I'm just cringing.
05:45All right, let's do this.
05:47Aggressive Towing's 50-ton rotator...
05:52Harrison East, zero kilometers up.
05:54...and heavy operator Chris Mervin...
05:58...head to an off-road recovery.
06:01I love this side of Harrison. It's pretty.
06:04In this area, it's very steep, rugged, and it is just classic West Coast country.
06:14Joining him...
06:15Gonna have some fun?
06:16Jayden did.
06:18I haven't done much for off-road recoveries.
06:20God, this is what I remember about Harrison.
06:24Like Bob Ross.
06:27To reach the wreck...
06:30I'm so sorry, Bertha.
06:34The rotator needs to make a 27-kilometer journey...
06:38Working out these stairs in.
06:40...through steep, rugged terrain.
06:44Oh!
06:46Bertha's favorite.
06:48FSR cruising.
06:51We know we are operating on a very narrow area of this forest service road.
06:56And that is one of the benefits to a rotator is it can just reach over the side and pick
07:00things up.
07:02Good news.
07:05100% still here.
07:13This is down, man.
07:19It's a service truck.
07:20I think the guy was out in the logging camp a couple of clicks down the road and...
07:24Just put her down there.
07:25Yeah.
07:29A little better time than now, Diggie.
07:34We're definitely dealing 40 degrees. It's steep.
07:37Somebody went for a ride.
07:38Somebody went for a rip.
07:45Rats are now safe.
07:48Six hours northeast.
07:50Just past that wreck. It's not pretty.
07:52An unwieldy load.
07:55Must travel over 100 kilometers.
07:59I'm checking it for wobbling and shaking.
08:02Before Jamie can get it safely off the Trans-Canada Highway.
08:07I don't want to hear any bashing and crashing.
08:10I want things to be right.
08:11I can see it. It's looking good.
08:15Still, though, I don't want to get too confident here.
08:18You've got to be very cautious.
08:21But his biggest hurdle...
08:24...is coming up.
08:26The only worry I really have ahead here is the tunnel.
08:30The drive will take Jamie through Highway 1's low-clearance tunnels.
08:37This area is close to Revelstoke.
08:40They have snow tunnels so that if an avalanche comes down, it doesn't go on the road.
08:48Left unchecked, over-height loads can cause significant structural damage.
08:58But if anybody hits it, they would shut everything down.
09:01Shut the highway down.
09:03Big problem.
09:05Big fines.
09:07I'm going to slow down and I'm going to stop before the tunnel.
09:12We're going to reassess everything.
09:14You don't want to take chances with that.
09:17It's either right or it isn't.
09:19I'm going to re-trip this again.
09:23Serious stuff.
09:26I don't want to be the guy that hits the tunnel.
09:29I want to make sure that we're going to have enough clearance to get through them.
09:37We're 4.38.
09:39Okay, what does our sign say here?
09:424.40.
09:43We're just under...
09:45Jamie has only two centimeters to spare.
09:49We're right at the very limit of heights here.
09:52All right, so we're good.
09:54We're going to have to be careful.
09:58Until we clear the tunnel, we're on pins and needles.
10:04Up your own tight.
10:07We're going to be close.
10:10He's coming now.
10:12On the Trans-Canada Highway...
10:14You should make it through, eh?
10:17Well, we're .02 under.
10:21Jamie's 14-foot-tall load...
10:24So, I'm just going to go through here gingerly.
10:29Close.
10:33...clears the low ceiling.
10:36Really close.
10:39We just, just made it through.
10:45But with six more tunnels to go...
10:47Just take it nice and easy.
10:50Jamie can't lose focus.
10:53I'm pretty sure they're all the same, but we'll be double-checking.
10:56You just got to go steady, Eddie, and be slow and cautious.
11:002.40.
11:03It's probably good that I did this job.
11:06I don't want anybody to take the rap if something goes wrong here.
11:11It's working out for us.
11:13I'm still going through the tunnel slow.
11:19Easy does it.
11:20We'll persevere. We'll get there.
11:23After 45 minutes...
11:25We just passed the last tunnel, so we're all good.
11:28Jamie is on the home stretch for today.
11:33Very happy that we're able to do this in one shot.
11:36Great job.
11:38But the nightmare recovery is far from over.
11:42We'll come back tomorrow for the rest of the trailer.
11:46You got to be a little nuts to be in this business.
11:51Six hours southwest in East Harrison.
11:55Somebody went for a ride.
11:57Jayden and Merv face a service truck.
12:01Somebody went for a rip, yeah.
12:03Nose down a steep bank.
12:08We're basically hanging on the edge of the cliff side here, more or less.
12:13An aggressive flat deck arrives to help.
12:16It just makes it easy to get it out of the bush.
12:18We're unsure of the amount of damage or if it is toolable on an underlift or not.
12:23We just pick it up and it'll want to spin on its own.
12:26We'll just lay it out behind us.
12:28Let's get it out of here.
12:30With the rotator we can reach out about 24 feet off the side of our trucks.
12:33We don't have to worry about debris and rocks and dirt and trees and all sorts of stuff as we
12:39come up this bank.
12:44Lines from the rotator hooked to chains will fish the pickup out of the ditch.
12:50Then with the rotator's rear winch line running from the flat deck to the pickup,
12:56they'll level the wreck back on solid ground.
13:04Right there.
13:06We're going to let Jayden come up with his own rigging plan.
13:11What he's going to attach to, how he's going to do it.
13:14One on one side, one on the other.
13:17Definitely feels pretty good.
13:19He's comfortable with my decisions.
13:21I'll have to reach past you then boom in.
13:23Hopefully you can reach some cables after.
13:25I was going to say I didn't bring my pen puller.
13:27You can't quite reach that or what?
13:28100%.
13:29Okay, here. Now?
13:30Yeah.
13:30No?
13:36It's all right.
13:37Trying to steal your gloves.
13:40Ah, Jayden, he's doing well for us here.
13:42He's learning. He likes coming out and playing on steep banks, so make sure you bring him every time.
13:47He's young. He's got the energy to do this.
13:50I'm getting old.
13:52How long do you have those chains, Jayden? Real short?
13:55Real short.
13:55No, no. We need them long.
13:56Because what's going to happen when it rolls over, when it comes up, it's going to be on my cables
14:01on the tailgate.
14:03I mean, we could try. We could see what happens. I'm a gamer. I'm going to blame it on you
14:07if anybody makes fun of it.
14:08Why?
14:09Too late. We're doing it now, boys.
14:11We're going to let him witness his own rigging in play here.
14:17Let's see what it does.
14:19How I rigged it, that's not the way he would have done it, but I'm comfortable with it.
14:33Nice and easy.
14:40There she goes.
14:43That's slick.
14:44The rotator has to clear all 22 feet of the truck.
14:49That is a lot more truck than I thought.
14:51Before it can be swung onto the road.
14:59I've got to manage to get her laid out behind us here.
15:03Okay, boys.
15:05Grab the nose and pull it that way, and then we'll set her down.
15:09We've got it standing vertical right now.
15:12We want to set it down on four tires, so my flat deck operator can load it up.
15:16There you go.
15:17And get her out of there.
15:22Using the flat deck as an anchor,
15:24a line from the rotator will level the pickup.
15:31Okay, hook her in.
15:42You're going to want to roll towards the bank here too, so watch yourself.
15:46Merv's master class...
15:48Yeah, see that's...
15:50That's what I was saying.
15:53...is back in session.
15:57Now I guarantee you understand why.
16:00Yeah.
16:01...as he shows how Jayden's short chains caused the winch lines to bear the full load of the wreck.
16:09Everything's a learning experience.
16:12D-Rig everything, we're done.
16:15You just got to point these things out, and then he understands them.
16:20Take everything off it, because then he can load it.
16:23This is one of the aspects of thinking the recovery through in its entirety, versus...
16:28...just one section.
16:31Slow and steady all the way down, buddy.
16:34But Merv and Jayden...
16:36You want a shabby too?
16:38We can.
16:40...aren't leaving just yet.
16:42There's another pickup further down the bank.
16:46We'll get her, bud.
16:49I don't like garbage left in the bush.
16:51Takes away from the beautiful scenery.
16:54So if I come right here, this one should pick flat.
16:57Not the truck we came up for, but might as well clean up the environment a little bit.
17:05But being good Samaritans...
17:07Ow!
17:09...means working in the dark.
17:13You want bee posts?
17:15Yeah, both singled out.
17:20Okay, right there, buddy.
17:22You can't see things around you.
17:24Falling objects in such steep terrain becomes a danger.
17:29In order to get this ugly eyesore out of there...
17:34...it's worth it.
17:39This vehicle's been in there for a good couple of years.
17:43We're just rigging to the strongest points.
17:45We'll just go from there.
17:47We are all ready.
17:51But recovering a random wreck...
17:54Watch behind you, buddy.
17:56Comes with its own risks.
17:59There's so much damage.
18:01She's coming.
18:03If we can get her up on the road in one piece...
18:06Ooh.
18:07We'll be laughing.
18:13Anybody order a truck?
18:15On a forest service road...
18:19Merv and Jaden are going above and beyond.
18:23Yeah, yup.
18:26...to clean up Mother Nature.
18:28It's just an extra step we can take to take care of it.
18:32Ooh, ooh, ooh.
18:34Still got back tires on it?
18:36We might be able to kill this pole.
18:38We may be able to. I think it still does.
18:41We're gonna put her on the back of Bertha and bring her back out of the bush.
18:45All right, buddy. D-Rig.
18:47It went pretty good. Nicely.
18:49Jaden traps the second wreck to be towed out.
18:56Oh, working with Merv is amazing.
18:58He's a great teacher.
18:59He's always willing to show you different tricks.
19:03He's been doing it for ages, so he knows...
19:05Knows a thing or two.
19:07And Merv's lessons in the back country...
19:11Now we're good.
19:12...are done for the day.
19:15Yeah.
19:17I really enjoy working with Jaden.
19:19Yeah, dicky bird.
19:21All right, let's get home.
19:26I'm hungry.
19:40The next morning...
19:43East of Revelstoke.
19:45That truck's destroyed.
19:48All right.
19:49Jamie is back on scene.
19:52We're on day three of this job here.
19:56For us, the priority is to get the load out of the trailer.
20:00Oh, so there he is now.
20:02He's bringing in a 28-ton crane truck to help with the offload.
20:10The cargo, it's down a few feet from the highway.
20:14There's a very steep bank.
20:16You can barely even stand up in this trailer.
20:18So what we want to do is reload that stuff in your basket, unload it up here, create pallets, and
20:24we'll put the bobcat in, you know, lift them into another trailer.
20:28With a 95-foot reach, it's a vital recovery tool.
20:35This job's just going to take time.
20:38The crane is going to be a lot quicker.
20:41But first...
20:42Hey, that's good.
20:44Good enough.
20:45Jamie rigs a safety line...
20:47We're just going to hold it.
20:51...to protect the salvage crew.
20:53We need to make sure that it doesn't just slide down the bank further.
20:57Be careful going down there.
21:00...which today includes his daughter, Alexis.
21:04Yeah.
21:06I have never seen a crane like this in my life.
21:10It is the biggest piece of equipment I've, like, ever been beside.
21:17Here, Alexis. Just carry one at a time.
21:21Since she was eight years old...
21:23You can do this one.
21:24...Alexis has tagged along on Rex.
21:27Perfect.
21:29Alexis, look! Look! Pick it up!
21:33I like driving to the recovery tube, towing it, everything.
21:38Good job, Alexis!
21:40I'm like, wow!
21:41When she grabs the controls, she just knows.
21:43She's a natural.
21:45Proud of you!
21:49I'm going to give you guys hard helmets.
21:54Here, Alexis. You can wear mine.
21:59There's some big risk inside of a trailer unloading that.
22:02You don't know what's going to come down on you.
22:06So we want to be safe.
22:10We have a mixed load.
22:15Lego, labels, soap, TVs.
22:19Yeah.
22:20This is a front-to-back, fully loaded trailer.
22:24And it's in 5,000 pounds.
22:27Also back on scene...
22:30Holy mackerel!
22:32Swamper, Martin Steffek.
22:35Okay, bring that up!
22:41Okay.
22:43Helping at road level is Jamie's stepson, Brandon Codales.
22:48It's a heavy hat, but it's safe.
22:51So we're at three days straight here.
22:53But you just work until you get the job done.
22:56And today's unload, so that's what we'll be doing.
23:01But removing a full load...
23:07Captain, go up!
23:08...on a 45% grade...
23:11Watch out.
23:13...comes with challenges.
23:15Definitely a lot of things to watch out for.
23:18Whenever the cage comes down...
23:21...you gotta watch, like, metal flinging back and forth.
23:25The side walls of the trailer are not meant to be walked on,
23:27so you're sliding everywhere.
23:30Oh, that's just good.
23:33You have to pace yourself with this.
23:38What do you got up there still?
23:40About eight pallets?
23:42On top, loaded more.
23:44We got about a third of a trailer left.
23:45We want to make sure all of this loads out of here today.
23:51We won't have the crane tomorrow.
23:54With daylight fading...
23:57Okay, let's get out here, pitter-patter.
24:00The team needs to hustle.
24:03Once it gets dark, it becomes distraction to traffic.
24:07It could cause a secondary accident.
24:10The hazards and the danger triple with nightfall.
24:15Slow it down, there's a wreck ahead of you.
24:17It's do or die on the cargo right now.
24:22Can't do much until they unload the trailer.
24:25On the Trans-Canada Highway...
24:27I got two skids coming up!
24:29The race is on...
24:31And watch yourself!
24:32...to empty out a full load of mixed goods.
24:37Yup, all right.
24:40But as night falls...
24:43Concern for his crew...
24:45I'll go have a look.
24:47...has Jamie reassessing his plan.
24:51Star code.
24:52Visibility's a problem.
24:55Accidents can happen.
24:57How's it going?
24:58We almost got it!
25:00It's coming, I know.
25:02With over two-thirds of the trailer unloaded...
25:06Let's just finish these boxes here, okay?
25:08Okay.
25:09Jamie makes the call.
25:12We're just gonna pull out the rest of these boxes.
25:15And then we're gonna pull it out tomorrow with some of the load still in it.
25:19I know what it takes to do these jobs.
25:23And I know when to hold them and I know when to fold them.
25:27With the arrival of the offload trailer...
25:30Just come right here.
25:31All right.
25:33Alexis...
25:33Okay, that's it.
25:34...and Martin...
25:35We're good to go.
25:37...can call it a night.
25:40Definitely feel good about today.
25:42We got a lot done.
25:45But even after clocking out...
25:47You're not tired yet?
25:48No.
25:50Alexis continues to pitch in.
25:53Man, you're my little hero.
25:55You work like the old man.
25:56Oh yeah.
25:57That's why I have your hat on.
25:58That's why you got my hat on.
25:59Yeah, that's why my name's Jamie today.
26:02I definitely see me in him.
26:04Yep.
26:04Yep.
26:05Yep.
26:05I do.
26:07And even big brother Brandon...
26:10We'll get this one figured out.
26:11...is taking notice.
26:13Not only am I proud of Alexis for being able to do this kind of work physically,
26:17but I'm just genuinely shocked.
26:20The effort level is very impressive.
26:23Have a good night.
26:25Thanks.
26:28The offload complete.
26:29This is going to be the last one, Brandon.
26:31Nice.
26:34Marks the end of day three.
26:36Everybody really worked hard today.
26:39We're going to come back tomorrow and pull the trailer up.
26:44I'm out of here.
26:46I need my pillow and a blanket.
26:49Should be interesting tomorrow.
27:07Anybody tell me what Highway 1 is like?
27:10550 kilometers southwest.
27:12In the Fraser Valley.
27:16The roads are dry the whole way over.
27:20A 50-ton Vulcan wrecker is on the move with Al Quiry.
27:27We're just heading back out on the highway for an incident that happened earlier in the daytime.
27:37Hours earlier, a dump truck left the road and its trailer flipped over, spilling its load, backing up traffic for
27:49kilometers.
27:53It takes a matter of seconds to back up our highway corridor on the TransCanada.
28:00So we had to make choice.
28:03Disconnect the truck.
28:04Go forward a tiny bit.
28:06Separate everything quickly and just clear the scene to hopefully get traffic flowing again.
28:13Yeah, we're going to look after.
28:14Yeah.
28:15We're going to deal with the trailer this evening.
28:17Now that the roads are clear.
28:20Okay, let's roll.
28:25Returning tonight.
28:26Still in there, eh?
28:28Al sent a crew ahead to prepare the trailer.
28:31Because this truck is in the median, I've sent out a mini excavator to empty the trailer out.
28:38So it'll be a simple recovery.
28:43To help with the rollover, his son Kerry follows in his 20-ton wrecker.
28:49I've got Kerry coming out with the little tow truck there.
28:52He's going to hook onto the front of it and tow it away for me once I grip it out.
28:59But working at night, next to the live lane, is a constant concern.
29:06Being in the fast lane is a pretty dangerous place.
29:11It's only a hundred K zone.
29:15But still people in the evening not really paying attention.
29:21Perfect timing.
29:23Kerry rolls into the scene.
29:26Alrighty.
29:27And quickly gets to work.
29:30It's very challenging at night to be working out on the highways.
29:34There's lots of dangers, hidden dangers.
29:36And these days, the stakes are exceptionally high for the Quirings.
29:43Last summer, Kerry and his wife, Sarah, welcomed their son, Tanner.
29:54Every day in North America, tow truck guys get hurt on the side of the road.
30:00And I don't want to have my son, I don't want to have my family, I don't want to have
30:04my workers in any situation like that.
30:08Being a dad, my goal every day is to come home alive.
30:14It's a bad spot there.
30:17We're still crews working on the highway.
30:28On highway one, the Quirings must work beside a live lane to upright a tipped trailer.
30:44We're hooking it up so when we do flip it over, this doesn't catapult into something or someone.
30:53Kerry will be in control and hold that front bogey system as I upright the trailer and drag that onto
30:59the road.
31:00Going right up over the tire there.
31:03But in tight quarters, Al is relying on every tool he has.
31:08Having the side pull on the truck that I operate, it greatly benefits your recovery ability.
31:16Especially when you're in a live lane.
31:20Watch your speed.
31:23For new father Kerry.
31:25Should I put my speed down?
31:28And granddad Al.
31:30Just let your truck roll ahead, just make sure you don't go in the ditch.
31:34Every minute counts.
31:38Our Trans-Canada in this part of the province is not very wide.
31:43Oh, let's pull it out.
31:49So head on a swivel, keep your eyes on traffic, because it's a dangerous place to operate out there.
31:58All right.
32:01Gently laid over.
32:03Go forward.
32:05The trailer must be pulled onto pavement.
32:10But between his wrecker...
32:13And the wreck...
32:15Getting real tight.
32:17Al's feeling the squeeze.
32:20Sometimes it does get a little squishy.
32:23There's risk.
32:25Good, good.
32:27But I like to be in the action, too.
32:30Barely 25 minutes after they arrived...
32:33Good enough.
32:35...the trailer's good to go.
32:39Ready?
32:40Yeah.
32:42All right.
32:43You need to have your plan laid out.
32:46I like to be SEAL Team 6.
32:49That's the way my dad, that's the way my grandpa, that's the way my uncles taught me.
32:54All right, good.
32:55Yeah, it went perfect.
32:57Working with my dad, well, I always look forward to it.
33:01It's a bonding time.
33:03All right, we're rolling.
33:06I want that situation to be as safe as possible for everybody around.
33:12I've got a responsibility not only to Carrie and Sarah, but, you know, Tanner as well.
33:19And hopefully future grandchildren, you can quote me on that.
33:25No, it doesn't anybody.
33:28Ain't an old crew, that's quick.
33:32Awesome, thank you.
33:45Six hours northeast.
33:48The final piece of the puzzle.
33:504D wreck doesn't happen often.
33:54It just pushes you to the max.
33:58Jamie Davis' new 50-ton HR 100...
34:02This job's been long.
34:05...heads back to the big recovery.
34:09Four days ago...
34:13...the fully loaded semi lost the road.
34:20...and toppled down the steep bank.
34:26A little bit of carnage up in here.
34:28Pick the lane for after recovery.
34:31Also back to finish the job...
34:37Brandon...
34:37Time to push through and get the last bit done.
34:41...and Alexis...
34:42Dave, I don't even know.
34:45Yeah, I'm pretty driven to do it because I've seen my father do it, like, my whole life and he
34:50hasn't quit.
34:52Bringing in 30-ton HR 130 for the big pole.
34:58It's rockin' Rob.
35:00Ready to give her.
35:01Operator Rob Wall.
35:04It'll be a relief when this gets back to the yard tonight.
35:08Yeah, that's good.
35:09Let me bring the cable.
35:12We need the big straps over the trailer.
35:15We'll put two around it, we'll try to basket it.
35:18The reason we're using the straps on the back...
35:20...is because there is nothing to hook onto.
35:23Yeah, bring that one down, we'll go right around the whole back.
35:28Here's the shackle for that guy.
35:30The straps are wrapped around...
35:33Here's a thing to pull it.
35:36...what's left of the destroyed trailer.
35:39We're just doing whatever we can to get it rigged up for recovery.
35:45Getting it through?
35:47I got it, pull it.
35:51With lines from the 30-ton to straps...
35:55...and the 50-ton at the front...
35:57...they'll drag the unit back onto the road.
36:06I want to make sure this thing's going to come out and come out smoothly.
36:11You got it?
36:13Okay.
36:17Arriving to watch their final move...
36:20...is Jamie's wife and business partner, Sherry.
36:24My family's out here, so I'm hanging out with everybody.
36:29Get everybody out.
36:31But with 8,000 pounds remaining inside the destroyed trailer...
36:37Okay.
36:38...the pull...
36:42Holy man.
36:44...is still a fight.
36:56We're hoping that the trailer stays together.
36:59Keep going, keep going.
37:05The more pieces that break off...
37:08...means more work.
37:10Keep coming.
37:18Almost there.
37:21And after four days of a job that consumes you and everything around you...
37:26Well, it's up and on the road.
37:28...you just want to get this done and you want to move on with life.
37:32I'll get out of the way.
37:37A specialized low bed arrives for the wreckage.
37:42What do you think about pulling on something?
37:45But dragging the mangled unit onto the tilting trailer...
37:50Well, the only thing we can pull is on here.
37:52...comes with new challenges.
37:55Look right here, though.
37:57Where?
37:57Pretty big spot right there.
38:00Thin, light material.
38:01We don't have a lot to work with here.
38:07We'll get three 3-8 chains and do three points.
38:10If we can get two or three places to hook to, we might have a chance...
38:14...without it breaking apart.
38:19Hey, Alexis!
38:20Need a hand?
38:23Everyone's pitching in.
38:25Basically, the job is down-stop.
38:27That's the job.
38:28Just keep working.
38:30Just hang onto it.
38:32Pull it.
38:34She's there right to the very end, right through the nitty-gritty to see it done.
38:40Okay, let's see what it does.
38:43Okay, are we good?
38:44Yeah, just try and pull in a bit.
38:46Yeah, let's pull.
38:57Stand back there, Rob.
38:59You never know.
39:03Watch yourself.
39:07Might be tough.
39:09Not going.
39:11Pull it.
39:12All stop.
39:13They're moving the trailer right now.
39:16Okay, suck it up.
39:17On the Trans-Canada Highway...
39:20Hey, slow down a bit. Slow down.
39:24Not going.
39:25...the last pull...
39:27Pull it. All stop.
39:29...of Jamie's four-day recovery...
39:32Let me see.
39:34...has hit a snag.
39:36The winch, it'll pull a certain amount.
39:39Yeah, that's working.
39:40But the trailer needs a bit of finessing here to make this work.
39:46Determined to make this the final push.
39:49Maybe go to the back end with the skid steer.
39:52Yeah, I'll try a little bit.
39:55They bring in the on-site skid steer.
40:00The trailer, it's got some weight in it.
40:02So the bobcat can give us a hand pushing on the back to make this happen.
40:09Careful, Rob.
40:12That way.
40:14Just gentle, gentle though, gentle.
40:17Yeah, that's working.
40:20The last thing we need is this thing falling apart.
40:23With a final push...
40:26It's actually coming up good.
40:28Yeah.
40:29The mangled unit makes its way onto the tilting trailer.
40:37There we go.
40:38Nice.
40:42Little more.
40:44After four exhausting days...
40:47I think it's pretty good.
40:50...the wreck is finally out of the ditch.
40:53Perfect.
40:54It's coming together.
40:55We've got a little bit of stuff to load and then we're all good.
41:03Basically, today I'm working so hard because I've got places to be tonight.
41:10You looking forward to your night off?
41:12Yeah.
41:13I'm going to get home. I've got a date tonight.
41:16You've got a date?
41:16Yeah.
41:18Are you kidding me?
41:19What do you mean a date? I don't even know you have a boyfriend.
41:21Who? Is it that guy?
41:22Yeah.
41:23Same guy.
41:24She's worked 12 hours and she's still got enough energy to go chase a boyfriend like what?
41:29Huh.
41:31I checked him out. He's okay.
41:38Poor day wreck. Doesn't happen often.
41:41Ratchet up.
41:42Takes a lot of work.
41:44Lots of people.
41:46No, you're good. Just tie it up.
41:47Yeah.
41:49But we got it done.
41:51It's a win for the whole family.
41:55It was a family effort going on here to get this thing done.
41:59That's good. She's good to go.
42:01Everybody worked really hard.
42:03It's nice to have the family all work together.
42:06And Jamie's newest wrecker.
42:09I love this truck.
42:10Comes out on top.
42:14You know, we're on to better things.
42:16Heading into the winter, there's a lot of energy around.
42:20Everybody is in a good mood and they're gung ho.
42:23Kids want to get out there and work.
42:26That's it. We're out of here.
42:28You've got to get out there and get it done.
42:31You just don't give up.
42:33Yeah, it's not going to be here, eh?
42:37It's not going to be here, eh?
42:38It's not going to be here, eh?
42:39It's not going to be here.
42:43Next time on Highway Through Hell.
42:47Over the Edge.
42:49Holy crap.
42:51With Team MSA.
42:52How are we going to get this out of the way?
42:55Extreme grades.
42:56It's just too steep.
42:57An uphill battle.
42:59And a log jam.
43:02This is going to be a big bump.
43:05Of trouble.
43:06Hey, rolling over.
43:09Whoa, whoa, whoa.
43:22What?
43:40Looking good.
