01:17forget thelma and louise we got pauline and brenda looking rich and delicious what thank you two best
01:24friends that give us one of the biggest surprises we've ever seen you're crazy nope i love you
01:30and while i've been kicking back shane and crystal have been kicking goals like these front columns
01:36that are going to be right here
01:41getting the chance to revisit old winners and seeing what they've been up to now
01:46has been an absolute blast but as a huge fan of all things tv there was one thing i wanted
01:52to do
01:52more than anything else a halloween episode and i got my chance four years ago when we headed to one
02:00of the spookiest places home to witches and spells salem massachusetts there i helped john and danielle find
02:08their very own haunted house that's a great laugh by the way thank you
02:20hi i'm john hi i'm danielle and we're from salem massachusetts and we were originally on season 12
02:25with my lottery dream home got it we'll wait for this truck shirt you know it's like cute right yeah
02:33but
02:34it doesn't just stay just like yeah did you watch the tv show before i had you ever heard of
02:43it um
02:44we'd heard of it and yeah i hate to admit we never watched it yeah but when they reached out
02:49to us
02:50i remember like calling my mom and being like she's like david is my favorite like she's like you have
02:57to do it i was like okay this is like this is something like i'm like we're for sure doing
03:02it like
03:02put me in front of the camera yeah definitely well this is very exciting yeah salem is one of my
03:09favorite places because i was here on halloween like three years ago yeah halloween is crazy yeah
03:15but we're not going to talk about salem quite yet we're going to talk about you guys okay who won
03:19the
03:19money we came into money so his parents technically won it was a mega billions and nice so i get
03:27a call
03:28saturday morning um from my dad he's like oh did you win the lottery or play the lottery last night
03:33i was like no did you he's like yeah i think i won i was like oh that's awesome how
03:38much you win he's
03:39like i think a million dollars they're generous enough to be like we want to split it with you and
03:44his
03:44brother as well so um very nice so how much did you get out of the lump sum it was
03:49a hundred thousand
03:50dollars wonderful yeah before winning the lottery we were living in a one-bedroom apartment um just
03:56the two of us and our dog it was pretty cramped so having that space that was a huge wish
04:08so the first house that david showed us was crane's rest it was a duplex but also felt very
04:13much like a single family home here we go coming on in all right all right my darlings wow oh

04:21this is beautiful open floor plan and it doesn't feel like a town home does it no it had a
04:29beautiful
04:29kitchen like a lot of modern uh fixtures and appliances oh wow gas range yeah i know beautiful
04:35right i love the hood look at this there's a wine fridge oh yeah i love it she was like
04:40going for the
04:41important fridge and then wine oops i really love the kitchen because i had a wine fridge and i love
04:47wine i love this sink how do you work this well that's what you got to kind of figure out
04:57this will take some learning i guess totally sprayed myself with water and i remember yeah people were
05:03like do you do you know how to wash your hands turn on the sink apparently not who cooks bakes

05:09i like to be able to eat meatballs okay oh tradition i'm kind of known for buying meatballs
05:13love meatballs love the balls love she said it before me people usually i'm always going cracking
05:22the naughty jokes you broke the ice with your dirty job yes yeah once we got a little comfortable with
05:27david all right and here is our main suite oh it's nice yeah i love the windows i mean look

05:35yeah that's yeah that'll be great why don't you guys check out the main bathroom okay it's pretty
05:39good okay oh wow oh that shower is huge that's incredible is this a steamer oh that's so cool it's
05:46a steam shower it actually is a steam shower this isn't this is like a spa yeah i could see

05:57guys let's go check out the other bedrooms okay and apparently we're gonna have to look for a closet for

06:17so the next house we looked at was beverly spirit
06:22it was a single-family home it was in beverly just a little bit north of salem
06:27yes cute fall yumminess how are you guys doing good how are you sorry i'm in the best place on

06:35planet we're in the salem area yeah well we're not in salem too
06:43ghosts it's haunted i tell you everywhere so what do you think of the house it's so cute can you

06:51when this was built i don't know 1905 oh wow 116 years old oh my gosh lord knows what was

07:00in there a hundred years ago right it looks huge doesn't it it does it looks really spacious it's

07:23beautiful isn't it cute yes it was built in 1905 so it was a little older but newly renovated it

07:38gas range it looks like it was built yesterday but it has still that good feel of having an older
07:45home right it does it does yeah now no wine fridge kind of a bummer i can make do i

07:52there were some beautiful windows the staircase was just beautiful old banister yeah that was and so
07:59like a lot of that old charm that was you know really nice to see all right and this is

08:06oh yeah it's a nice space i love oh my gosh the original floors i know so this is where

08:11hear a creek do they slope this is a pretty good job you did a really good job yeah yeah

08:26the last house that david showed us was harmony hill
08:30it was the cheapest out of all of them but also the biggest okay i remember his outfits all black
08:39he was really leaning into the spookiness of salem i hear voices in the wind i don't know if it's
08:45someone singing or something singing
08:55uh come on in hello hello hi nice to see you we're in salem we're in salem it's got such

09:14this is our old we're gonna wait for that one because that's a little that's a big dump truck
09:23we got two so this house this is the oldest house we've ever looked at wow on lottery ever built

11:24decided to go with harmony hill i love that a beautiful house 131 years old yes this was turnkey
11:33aesthetically pleasing yeah we just kind of had to move our stuff in and and enjoy it congratulations

11:52danielle went for all that character and got their perfect dream home and maybe an unexpected tenant
11:58a living ghost but don't run away quite yet because we're about to find out if they shared their house

12:16i love all things halloween so salem massachusetts may be one of my favorite all-time places
12:23helping john and danielle find their my lottery dream haunted mansion was a true nightmare now i'm
12:30dying to hear what spirits have haunted them since we filmed their last the best part we don't need a
12:36crystal ball to see this one
12:46all right you want to go sit down yeah come on ruby that's beautiful weather out i know it is
12:52perfect
12:53we never thought we would do a single family home we were always kind of like oh we're you know
12:58young no
12:58kids like we can just get a condo or duplex and here we are with a five bedroom house
13:06where's ruby yeah where's ruby ruby oh hi boobs are you enjoying your patio you want to come here
13:15five bedrooms seemed like a lot but there was a couple of things that we were really looking for
13:20to make use of them uh one was each having an office
13:24and then having a gym was also really important we're both you know really into being active and
13:30fit right the backyard was the biggest undertaking of what we've done we've added in front back and
13:38front yeah so we've expanded our garden so now we have a lot of garden beds we got into gardening
13:44we
13:47be good for dinner we've done a lot of landscaping and make it kind of like you know a little
13:52waste
13:52that's out there
13:56being an old house the foundation is field stone it's literally just a pile of rocks but it's really
14:02useful for storing stuff i mean it's great storage space i have a workbench down there our wine fridge
14:08is down there uh it's where we store it did you guys have any apprehension about living in a super
14:17old house do you guys believe in ghosts uh no i wasn't worried i mean our house is haunted we
14:23do have
14:23a ghost i think it's a girl after a few months of living here um our fireplace was on all
14:35of a sudden
14:37and that was weird so i was like john did you turn the fireplace on uh and then we were
14:42gone for
14:42christmas visiting family someone finished the advent calendar no no it was the start and every year
14:46she's done that i swear i'm not i'm like i'm not making this up like i really i really am
14:52not so
14:53thankfully it's a friendly she's very friendly yeah and like every once in a while like you know she'll
14:57like move something but yeah she'll she'll she likes to cut and play a little prank
15:06i think salem gets like through one image portrayed to everyone of like the you know halloween but if
15:12you just go a little bit outside of that downtown there's so much to do i bet they have some
15:18pickles
15:19that are really good they do yeah one of the like the things that we loved about being on the
15:24north
15:24shore is it feels like almost each town has their own like family farm so it feels like you're just
15:31not getting like of the generic grocery store fruits you can actually go and pick your own fruits and
15:37vegetables so that's always something we love to do on the weekends this tree looks good oh yeah wow
15:43after winning the lottery that opened up a whole new range of possibilities of places to live
15:49all right i've got enough i have enough yeah you've got a lot i think we're good let's go all

15:55it's been the best choice of my life i love i love the massachusetts i'll never leave it's a good

16:05turns out salem's not just for tricks and treats honestly that was one of my favorite episodes to film
16:11and so great to see all three of them enjoying their life together in harmony hang in there we're
16:17traveling down the coast to stop in and see pauline she bought a home in north carolina and expanded her
16:23portfolio after some unfortunate events pauline is one of those lottery winners with a heart of gold she
16:37was searching for the ultimate waterfront oasis and decided to bring her ride or die bestie brenda
16:42along for the fun

17:00come here give me some love hi brenda it's fabulous i have always watched david bromstead
17:07on hgtv after um i won the lottery they had reached out to me and asked if i would like

17:15on the show and of course who wouldn't want to be on the show i love your house oh thank

17:21this is amazing isn't it gorgeous we met at a bnb up in washington and uh my husband couldn't come
17:31along with us because he wasn't feeling well he had been sick at the time um so brenda came along
17:37with me so and she is yours she is my best friend of since we were 13 14 13. besties
17:44for a long time
17:45that's amazing brenda and i absolutely had a blast and that that is the truth right there right there
17:51because you're blocking that little pretty piece hey hey that's my camera oh well hell let's move
17:59i'm just kidding i'm just kidding that's exactly it it was a lot of fun first i was nervous of

18:07but he puts everybody around him at ease what you don't have to step in between but you can step

18:13it's a party up in here right well you told me to stay close yeah but stay on that side

18:52are you going i came to come over here and she blocked me just in a funny way but
18:58it didn't it wasn't a shock i it's that's nothing new for me and my friends
19:05so you're a winner yes um i stopped at the store bought two tickets when i scratched it off i

19:12a million dollars let's do the million dollar dance shall we yeah boom boom boom boom i'm sure
19:17you've been doing a lot of that lately when you get older you can't do that and then i brought

19:23check home to my husband and um he gets out of his lazy boy recliner of course you're in the

19:29after all yeah yeah right and he just fell to his knees he was just like and he started crying

19:36said is that real is that real we had always been looking for another house to leave virginia
19:43it was time for me to retire and live in my lottery dream home
19:52i think we should sit down take a seat and talk about what the kind of retirement home we're looking
19:57for we want something that's open floor plan i'd like to keep it small and intimate cozy and
20:03wonderful cozy wonderful on or near water with some type of access to a boat slip um so you guys
20:09are
20:09water lovers oh well i am not my husband is i wanted to go to the mountains bill wanted to
20:16go on the
20:16water um the gambler that i am we tossed a coin and i lost hence the water
20:31so david did such a good job choosing the houses that he did welcome to edgewater cottage

20:55so here we have a great eden kitchen little dining area this is cute

25:02few years to go the lottery winnings did make things a lot easier it really did and i still scratch

25:10this day i'm still scratching best friends from teenagers all the way up to retirement that is
25:20so me and my bestie greg coming up pauline has a secret she's been keeping from brenda
25:26and it's time to fess up this should be very interesting
25:37after scoring her dream retirement home in merritt north carolina life has thrown a few curveballs
25:43pauline's way but she has powered through thanks to the support of her best friend brenda
25:48now it's pauline's turn to return the favor in the best possible way check this out
26:01i've been here at this house for about seven years we paid 240 for the house and then the
26:08estimate of report shows like 350 400 so i think i made a great investment buying the house
26:17i love this place the people here the neighbors are amazing it's peaceful quiet
26:32since we filmed the last show i took some wallpaper down i did some painting
26:38when you have somebody that needs help you can't really redo floors there was i wanted to do a lot
26:44of work in here but i've taken care of my husband for the last six years he had terrible diabetes
26:52he had
26:53parkinson's disease he had had a heart attack and three months ago he passed away
27:08since i bought the house i still play lottery and lo and behold i hit it again i won 75
27:15000 this time
27:18and i'm gonna try for more so that enabled me to purchase the lot next door to put up the
27:26tiny
27:26home it's a 16 by 32 i believe hey how was your trip oh it was great
27:36oh my god i can't believe you got this finished is it all done it's beautiful i finally finished the
27:44tiny
27:44house um literally yesterday brenda hasn't seen it yet how you been good oh yes i can't believe this
27:55oh wow uh i've been telling everybody it was a house for uh to rent or for the kids to
28:02stay in
28:02or uh but it's really for brenda it's so she always has a place to live look at the water

28:10at it you like it oh i love it look at the view it's beautiful and the beautiful and the

28:17at that she doesn't know it's for her it's been a big secret for for quite some time now so

30:35with it i'm gonna give it to you no are you crazy you give it to me yeah you always

30:44live here it's for you no it's for you pauline really yeah really i'm just speechless that pauline did
30:53this it means a lot to me i mean you know we always said if she ever won the lottery

31:00you know we'd either uh live together or uh we'd get us an rv and take off so this is

31:09living beside of her you're crazy nope it's yours honey it's yours i love you oh i love you too
31:34on this show we say this a lot good things happen to good people and pauline is living proof now

31:42and brenda can spend many more years by each other's sides best friends for life but we're not
31:50done people after the break we're heading to tallahassee florida with shane and crystal you
31:55might remember their story because it was a first for us after showing them a bunch of properties
32:00they decided to go a different route leaving us all a little unsatisfied
32:12after winning a million dollars shane and crystal wanted to either buy a house they can move into
32:18right away or a fixer-upper with one caveat it had to fit their massive couch i've heard of the
32:25tail
32:26wagging the dog but buying a house to fit a couch madness did i do the exact same thing in
32:31miami yes
32:48hello oh my gosh you're so cute how are you how are you good fantastic to see you oh my
32:54god
32:54what's your cuteness here yeah i got lucky so young and how much money did you win a million
33:01dollars and so rich who's the gambler uh me i was hanging out at a friend's house we played some
33:06scratch-offs and actually lost on like five very last ticket i hit a million dollars on the third
33:12number so i was like babe you're spending a lot of money on you know scratch-off tickets now i'm
33:16like
33:16play play all you want shane and crystal were renting this two-bedroom apartment and their first
33:23purchase with their winnings was this colossal couch this literally takes up almost every
33:28square inch of your yeah yeah yeah well now you gotta find a house to uh fit this so we're
33:33gonna do
33:34that so we need a big living room for that for sure they agreed about the couch but not everything
33:38else
33:39do you love this kitchen no okay i would love something move-in ready well i'm not scared to get
33:44my hands dirty i'm fully capable of making some change so you want something move-in ready yeah you
33:48don't mind a fixer-upper yeah i don't mind either or so it's gonna be interesting who do i please
33:52the
33:53person with the money or the person with the power please her the decision you're a good husband
33:58husband uh boyfriend boyfriend girlfriend all the time with their whole future ahead of them
34:15i wanted to find a forever home they could love as much as each other this four bedroom property was
34:21beautiful on the outside come on in but it needed shane's handiwork on the inside we'd have to do a
34:28little bit of remodeling in here i would yeah we take this half wall out to really open it up
34:32for
34:32the space great little breakfast nook and a decent sized living space i don't know if it's gonna fit your
34:37couch but hey you can just replace your couch i'm strongly saying that because if you fall in love with
34:42the house and it doesn't fit your couch and you leave it someone else buys it you're gonna kick yourself
34:46should have thought that out before we spent all that money to keep the couch room alive the next
34:51property i showed them had more square footage and not one but two living rooms
34:59all right come on in wow nice big living room yes a big space right where you definitely big room

35:07sure but the sunroom stole the show with its big couch energy you know this is kind of half your
35:13sofa yeah
35:14yeah you're just missing like the other part you can see why the producers don't let me put my feet
35:24up very often while the interiors needed some updates you couldn't fault the incredible backyard

35:58construction world yes i love it what they sacrificed on land size they gained in a fully finished home smells

37:18is land versus house uh sweet ridge was the perfect house i think in the end it made us to

39:22um it led me to interview other places they found out about him winning the money when i was interviewing
39:28and um asked called me up and said they were going to offer me the position but didn't know if
39:34i you
39:35know did you need it and i said that's not enough money for us to live off of yes i
39:40still need a job
39:42that's really sweet they're like well give me the job but are you going to stay or are you just
39:46going
39:46to leave because you don't need to have it that's hilarious i've been with them ever since
39:50yeah congratulations so this million dollars like has done so much more than just be the million it
39:58just didn't sit in your bank account it just didn't sit with the house it built your entire lives both
