00:05James Valentine has died. He was 64.
00:09James is survived by his wife, Joanne, and their two children, Ruby and Roy.
00:15Our beloved friend and colleague presented the afternoon show here on 702 for more than 20 years.
00:22James retired from 702 back in February.
00:25He wanted to focus on his cancer treatment.
00:27He died yesterday at home using voluntary assisted dying, a detail that he wanted shared with you.
00:35It was two years after his cancer diagnosis.
00:38It was back in March of 2024 that James first announced his initial diagnosis, esophageal cancer.
00:45He went on leave and returned last year and then left the program in June after scans revealed tumours in
00:52his omentum.
00:53James was, as you know, one of a kind.
00:57A friendly face around this office, kind and generous to every one of his colleagues.
01:04He was loved by you, the audience, and he absolutely loved you back.
01:08It was a genuine, heartfelt relationship.
