00:09As Christianity spread to the West, European missionaries didn't understand the local
00:16beliefs in the rulers of nature's powerful forces.
00:21Because of this, they ended up causing real harm to the people who still followed these
00:29traditions, all while claiming to save their souls.
00:36The missionary Boniface was especially notorious for the destruction he caused in the Germanic
00:48lands while spreading what he called the true faith to the pagans.
00:54In 723, Boniface, who would later be made a saint, cut down the imposing sacred oak, or
01:03Thor's oak, of the Saxons in Gaysmart.
01:07He even used the sacred wood to build a chapel dedicated to St. Peter on the same spot.
01:14Not long after, the man who would come to be known as the Apostle of Germany wrote to
01:22England asking for splendid copies of the Bible written in gold letters so that the reference
01:30to the Holy Scriptures would leave an impression on the worldly minds of the Gentiles.
01:36It's easy to imagine how these Gentiles felt about their forced conversion.
01:44Historian Peter Brown notes that, in the 30-year journey, Boniface left his mark all over Western
01:54Germany, from Bavaria to where the Land and Weser rivers meet.
02:00It was a mark left by brutal force shaking the pure and sacred beliefs of the Germans without
02:08any real purpose.
02:11At the time, they still had a clear understanding of the elemental beings of nature because they
02:18could still see them.
02:21Boniface's senseless violence went unnoticed, let alone recognized by the Pope at the time,
02:29who simply stated,
02:32Boniface was sent to enlighten the Germanic people still living in the shadows of death, immersed in error.
02:44Boniface is now leaving over the world.
02:45Boniface is now leaving the fair of the people of God.
02:53Boniface is now leaving the fair of all ages of the people of God.
02:53And so, if you're fighting against what you're fighting against,
02:53the word in fact,
02:54that was when the word in the truth is not what you are talking about.
02:54But if you're fighting against each other,
02:59You
