00:00:00Well, brothers, now we come to the second half of this International Elders and Responsibilities training,
00:00:09and I'm very burdened that we would enter into the overall burden of this training,
00:00:17and the overall burden of this training is in the general subject of the training,
00:00:25which is the ministry of the Word and God's dispensing for God's economy.
00:00:31In the first four messages, we focused on the ministry of the Word.
00:00:36In these final four messages, messages five through eight, we will focus on God's dispensing for God's
00:00:44economy.
00:00:46But I just pray, brothers, that we see this.
00:00:50These two things, the ministry of the Word and God's dispensing for God's economy,
00:00:57there is an organic connection between them, an organic connection.
00:01:03Actually, if you just get this next sentence I'm going to say to you, you've got it.
00:01:08The ministry of the Word is God's dispensing.
00:01:13Let me say that again.
00:01:14The ministry of the Word is God's dispensing, and God's dispensing is for God's economy.
00:01:23And that is the overall burden of our time together.
00:01:38Now, we saw, I believe it was in message three, there was a focus on 1 John 5, 16.
00:01:46Just to give you an example, of course, I love this verse, of course, for the reasons on the outline,
00:01:54but one thing that I appreciate in this verse, it says, seize, ask, and give life.
00:02:03Seize, ask, and give life.
00:02:06If you see your brother sinning a sin, if anyone sees his brother sinning a sin, not unto
00:02:13death,
00:02:14he shall ask, and he will give life to him.
00:02:20Give life to him.
00:02:22Now, brothers, what we don't want to do, it says seize, ask, and give life.
00:02:28We don't want to see, criticize, and spread death.
00:02:34This, sorry to say, this happens.
00:02:37People see, then they criticize, then they spread death.
00:02:40As soon as we see something, we need, you know, love should prevail among us.
00:02:46So, we love one another.
00:02:49And because we love one another, we pray for one another.
00:02:53And when we come together, as we're small ones, we're praying for one another.
00:02:58But, brothers, consider Hebrews 10, 25.
00:03:02It says, do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together.
00:03:06And it says, when you come together, it says, consider one another.
00:03:10You consider one another.
00:03:12You exhort one another.
00:03:14It is a one another meeting.
00:03:16But you're considering one another.
00:03:18Like, Stephen, if we're meeting together, you and I and Roger,
00:03:22we, the first thing is not our agenda.
00:03:26Let's do this, let's do that.
00:03:27First thing, of course, we pray.
00:03:28But we also consider one another.
00:03:31Like, Roger, he looks at me, he goes, it looks like Ed, it seems a little down today.
00:03:37You know, so there's a little prayer in him for me.
00:03:39You know, he's burdened for me.
00:03:40He's concerned for me.
00:03:42And same with you, Stephen.
00:03:44You're concerned for me.
00:03:44I hope you're still concerned for me, brother.
00:03:46Don't ever lose your concern for brother Ed.
00:03:51And likewise, me also.
00:03:54Okay, now, so whenever we see something, like Roger sees something in me or Stephen,
00:04:01the first thing they should do is ask.
00:04:03And in the footnote, it uses this term for the person who asks.
00:04:08It says, the asker.
00:04:11I love this.
00:04:12The asker.
00:04:13We all need to be askers.
00:04:16Askers.
00:04:17As soon as we see something, we need to ask.
00:04:20Oh, I see you brothers out here.
00:04:22I want to say hello to some of you brothers.
00:04:24Anyway, I won't do it.
00:04:27Okay.
00:04:28See, ask, and give life.
00:04:31Then we ask.
00:04:33Like if Roger asked for me, sometimes, you know, Paul said, making mention of you in my prayers.
00:04:39So sometimes we need, all we can do is make mention of a brother's name.
00:04:43He says, oh, Lord, Brother Ed, you know Brother Ed needs life.
00:04:47Give him life.
00:04:48Then at a certain point, the Lord may lead Roger to have some personal contact with me, one-on
00:04:54-one.
00:04:55And in that contact, of course, the Lord has to lead you what to say, what not to say, maybe
00:05:04just to be with me.
00:05:05Wanted to say something, your presence, your being, and any words that the Lord leads you to speak to
00:05:13me, give me life.
00:05:15And I like that.
00:05:16Gives life.
00:05:18Gives life is the ministry of the word.
00:05:21Gives life is also God's dispensing for God's economy.
00:05:28Remember, our Christ is the now dispensing Christ.
00:05:33He's the now dispensing Christ.
00:05:36We pointed this out in the past that God's only goal in time is to dispense himself into
00:05:44us day by day.
00:05:46And that dispensing is the ministry of the word.
00:05:50Now, there's another verse that I would say.
00:05:53I like this.
00:05:53Give life.
00:05:54Give life.
00:05:55And then in Ephesians 4.29, this verse says that the word that proceeds out of our mouth
00:06:04should, this is a quote, give grace to those who hear.
00:06:10So, we need to be those who are giving life by being one with the life-giving spirit.
00:06:17And we need to be those, saints, isn't it wonderful?
00:06:20We can actually give grace to our brothers and sisters.
00:06:24We can give them grace.
00:06:26And we know grace is God in Christ as the spirit for our enjoyment.
00:06:32And we want to be grace givers and life givers.
00:06:35We're so one with the life-giving spirit that we can be channels of life to others to
00:06:42give life to our brothers and sisters.
00:06:45And we're so full of the enjoyment of the Lord that we have the opportunity in our oneness
00:06:53with him to give grace to one another, to give grace to one another.
00:06:59Now, just one other verse I'd like to point out to you is Jeremiah 15.19.
00:07:04Of course, we love Jeremiah 15.16.
00:07:08Your words were found, and I ate them, and your word became to me the joy and rejoicing of
00:07:14my heart.
00:07:15But I would like to point out here, Jeremiah 15.19.
00:07:20And Brother Watchman, he points this verse out in volume 60 of his collected works in a message he
00:07:31gave on our needing to have a change in our concept of value.
00:07:37You know, when you get regenerated, your value system changes.
00:07:42What you used to value, you realize that's just refuse.
00:07:47Paul said, I count all things refuse.
00:07:49The things that Paul used to value, to him, they were now refuse.
00:07:54He had a change, a dramatic change in his concept of value.
00:08:00So, he said, I count all things refuse.
00:08:02I was a Hebrew of the Hebrews.
00:08:04Circumcised the eighth day.
00:08:06tribe of Benjamin.
00:08:08He was raised up at the feet of Gamaliel, right, which is the top, you know, Jewish scholar
00:08:17in his day.
00:08:18But he said, I count all of that to be refuse that I may gain Christ.
00:08:26So, to him, everything other than Christ was refuse.
00:08:30That's a dramatic change in his value system.
00:08:34Well, Jeremiah 15, 19 says this, if you bring out the precious from the worthless, you will be as my
00:08:45mouth.
00:08:46I like that.
00:08:47If you bring out the precious from the worthless, you will be as my mouth.
00:08:53And, of course, we know Christ is the unique precious one in the universe.
00:08:57In 1 Peter 2, it says, to you who believe is the preciousness.
00:09:02So, he is the preciousness to us.
00:09:05And we need to bring out the precious.
00:09:07Anything other than Christ is worthless.
00:09:10So, in 1 Corinthians 3, 12, we know that Paul says we need to build upon the foundation that's
00:09:17already been laid,
00:09:19which is Jesus Christ our Lord.
00:09:21He is the foundation of God's building.
00:09:24And we can build with two types of materials possible.
00:09:28We can build with gold, silver, and precious stones, or with wood, grass, and stubble.
00:09:35We always need to pray.
00:09:37Lord Jesus, I pray that when I'm with the saints, or I'm with this brother,
00:09:42and with the brothers and sisters in my group meeting, in my home, in their homes,
00:09:46I pray that I would bring out the precious from the worthless.
00:09:51I pray I would build with gold, which is God the Father in his divine nature,
00:09:56silver, which is God the Son in his redeeming work,
00:10:00and precious stones, which is God the Spirit in his transforming work.
00:10:06And there needs to be a prayer, an aspirational prayer in us,
00:10:11Lord, save me from ever building with wood, grass, and stubble.
00:10:15That is worthless.
00:10:17So the precious is gold, silver, and precious stones.
00:10:21The worthless is wood, grass, and stubble.
00:10:24And we could say, there are many angles to share this from,
00:10:29but simply speaking, wood is our natural man.
00:10:33To build with wood is to build with our natural man,
00:10:37with its natural strength, with its natural ability.
00:10:42We need to reject everything natural.
00:10:44Nothing of wood, just gold.
00:10:47And nothing of grass.
00:10:48All flesh is as grass.
00:10:51So grass signifies the flesh.
00:10:53Wood signifies the natural man, with its natural ability, its natural strength.
00:11:00Grass signifies the flesh.
00:11:03We don't want to build with things of the flesh.
00:11:05And we don't want to build with stubble.
00:11:08Simply speaking, stubble is lifelessness.
00:11:13Lifelessness.
00:11:15We don't want to build with lifelessness.
00:11:17We want to be filled with zoe, the divine, eternal, uncreated life of God.
00:11:23And according to 2 Corinthians 5, 4, which actually talks about our rapture,
00:11:28it says we will be swallowed up by life, or swallowed up by zoe.
00:11:33But we need to apply that to our current experience.
00:11:36Lord, today, I want to be swallowed up by life.
00:11:40I want to be swallowed up by zoe.
00:11:43Whatever I do, whatever I say, I don't want to do by my natural man or by the flesh.
00:11:49I want to do and say everything by the divine, eternal, uncreated life of God.
00:11:57So again, that is the ministry of the word, which is, which equals God's dispensing.
00:12:04Now let's come to the title of message 5.
00:12:07It says,
00:12:27So when we use the word stewards here, brothers, we'll see in the outline,
00:12:31to be one of his faithful stewards is to be one of his faithful dispensers.
00:12:38A steward is a dispenser, one with God in his divine dispensing for his divine economy.
00:12:48Now let's come to Roman number 1.
00:12:50Roman number 1 says,
00:12:52God's eternal economy, which is God's plan, is his household economy, his household administration.
00:13:04God's dispensing, this is important, this Roman number 1, this next step.
00:13:10God's dispensing, God's distributing, is the process and means whereby he accomplishes his economy.
00:13:20For this reason, God's dispensing is for God's economy.
00:13:27That's why we have this in the general subject.
00:13:29God's dispensing for God's economy.
00:13:32So God's dispensing is for God's economy.
00:13:36It's the means and the reason by which he accomplishes his economy.
00:13:44Now we know that the Greek word for economy, Paul told, charged Timothy,
00:13:50He says,
00:13:51I want you, this word charge is very important.
00:13:54I want you to remain in Ephesus in order that you might charge certain ones,
00:13:59not to teach different things, nor to give heed to myths and unending genealogies,
00:14:05which produce questionings, rather than God's economy,
00:14:09God's oikonomia, which is in faith.
00:14:15Now we know that the Greek word oikonomia, forgive me, Roger, my pronunciation isn't correct.
00:14:21You can correct it after the meeting between me.
00:14:23Okay.
00:14:24Oikonomia is composed of two Greek words, oikos and house.
00:14:30Oikos and nomos, which means law.
00:14:33Oikos means house or household.
00:14:36Nomos means law or administration.
00:14:38So we could say oikonomia is God's household administration.
00:14:46It is his household administration to dispense himself into our tripartite being
00:14:53for the accomplishment of his economy, to build up the church as the body of Christ,
00:14:58to prepare us to be the bride of Christ, to bring in the kingdom of Christ,
00:15:03to consummate the new Jerusalem.
00:15:07Now, if you look at the footnote on 1 Timothy 1.4 on the Greek word economy,
00:15:14it's quite marvelous.
00:15:16It says this, the base of this word oikonomia or economy is of the same origin as
00:15:25that for pasture,
00:15:27for the word pasture.
00:15:29It's of the same origin.
00:15:30So, in John 10.9, it's the same origin as that for pasture in John 10.9,
00:15:37implying a distribution of the pasture to the flock.
00:15:43So, God's divine dispensing is his divine distributing to all of us who are sheep in God's
00:15:51flock.
00:15:53Now, remember, I wanted you to be right on the word charge.
00:15:57Charge certain ones, and this is, I'm putting it in a positive sense.
00:16:03Charge certain ones only teach God's economy.
00:16:07If you teach anything other than God's economy, that is a different teaching.
00:16:12There is one unique teaching in the Bible,
00:16:16and that is the teaching of God's eternal economy.
00:16:20So, charge certain ones, not to teach anything different from God's economy.
00:16:27Now, I don't have verse 5 on here, but after verse 4, if you come to verse 5,
00:16:34listen to what verse 5 says.
00:16:35It says the end of the charge.
00:16:39Charge certain ones just to teach God's economy.
00:16:42The end of the charge, I'm not going to say the whole verse, I'll just say this.
00:16:47The end of the charge is love.
00:16:51Is love.
00:16:53That means when you teach the unique teaching of God's eternal economy,
00:16:59it stirs up all the brothers and sisters to love the Lord to the uttermost.
00:17:05So, that matches 2 Corinthians 11.2,
00:17:08where Paul says, I betrothed you to one husband to present you as a pure version of
00:17:14Christ,
00:17:15which shows that the ministry, the New Testament ministry, is a betrothing ministry.
00:17:21And this ministry is the ministry of God's eternal economy.
00:17:24So, when you're genuinely teaching the unique teaching of God's eternal economy,
00:17:31that betroths the saints to Christ.
00:17:33It stirs up their first love for Christ, their fresh love for Christ, their new love for Christ.
00:17:40So, it goes on to say the end of the charge.
00:17:44Now, when it uses the word end, the end of the charge,
00:17:48it means the aim of the charge, the object of the charge,
00:17:53the purpose of the charge, and the issue of the charge.
00:17:57I'll say that again.
00:17:59The aim of the charge, the object of the charge, the purpose of the charge,
00:18:05the issue of the charge, which is the end of the charge,
00:18:09is love out of a pure heart, out of a good conscience, and out of unfamed faith.
00:18:17But it's love out of those three things.
00:18:20It's love.
00:18:20So, thank the Lord.
00:18:24The ministry of God's eternal economy that we are under is betrothing us to our unique husband
00:18:31and stirring up our love for the Lord Jesus.
00:18:36Okay, now, let's come to the next point under Roman numeral one, which is A,
00:18:43Christ is the center, circumference, element, sphere, means, goal, and aim of God's economy.
00:18:52In fact, all the contents of God's eternal economy are simply Christ.
00:19:00So, I've got Matthew 17, 5 here, which in Matthew 17, we see what happened on the Mount of
00:19:07Transfiguration.
00:19:09It says, while he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them.
00:19:16And behold, a voice out of the cloud saying, this was the Father's voice,
00:19:21This is my Son, the Beloved, in whom I have found my delight.
00:19:27Hear Him.
00:19:29I really like exclamation point.
00:19:31Hear Him.
00:19:33Say, we came here to hear Him.
00:19:36I felt like in the last session, that's what I was doing.
00:19:40I was hearing Him.
00:19:42Now, I'm going to come over to this account on the Mount of Transfiguration, to Mark 9,
00:19:51verse 8.
00:19:53And it says this, after, it says, hear Him, Mark 9 says,
00:20:01And suddenly, when they looked around, they no longer saw anyone but Jesus only with them.
00:20:10I love these two words.
00:20:12Jesus only.
00:20:14So, Elijah with Moses, they were conversing with the Lord.
00:20:18But when they looked around, the cloud was no longer there.
00:20:22They no longer saw anyone but Jesus only.
00:20:26So, we want to hear Him, and we want to see Jesus only.
00:20:32And He is the reality of the law and the prophets.
00:20:37Moses signifying the law.
00:20:39Elijah signifying the prophets.
00:20:41So, in Luke 24, 44, when He appeared to the disciples in resurrection, He said,
00:20:48These are my words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things written
00:20:55in the law of Moses and the prophets and Psalms concerning me must be fulfilled.
00:21:03Okay, that brings us to be, unless we know God's economy, we will not understand the Bible.
00:21:11The central subject of the Bible is the economy of God.
00:21:16And the entire Bible is concerned with the economy of God.
00:21:23Now, brothers, you'll see Luke 24, 45, there needs to be a prayer in us through the rest of
00:21:30this training.
00:21:31It says, Then He opened their mind to understand the scriptures.
00:21:35After He said everything, you know, in the Old Testament concerning me has to be fulfilled.
00:21:41It says, Then He opened their mind to understand the scriptures.
00:21:45I just pray that for the rest of this training, we just have a prayer in us, Lord, open my
00:21:51mind to understand the scriptures.
00:21:55Now, Job 10, 13, and Ephesians 3, 9, we emphasize these verses in the International Chinese Speaking Conference,
00:22:04which we had at the beginning of this year.
00:22:08And I would like to say this.
00:22:11The book of Job poses two things, puts two things before us, which brotherly called these two items this.
00:22:20The great question and the great answer.
00:22:24I like this.
00:22:25The great question and the great answer.
00:22:28The great question is embodied in Job 10, 13.
00:22:35The great question.
00:22:36Now, it's interesting, in verse 12, now we know, you know, when Job's three friends came,
00:22:46the best thing they did was when they sat down in the dust with them and didn't say a
00:22:50word.
00:22:52When they opened their mouth, that's when all the, they became an unvital group.
00:22:57You know, and so all of these opinions come out, and of course, Job is defending himself.
00:23:04But when you come to Job 10, 12, he says something positive.
00:23:08He says this to the Lord.
00:23:10You have granted me life and loving kindness, and your visitation has preserved my spirit.
00:23:18Now, here's verse 13.
00:23:20Verse 13 poses the great question.
00:23:26Now, Job knew there was something hidden in God's heart for him, but he didn't know what it
00:23:32was.
00:23:33So he says in Job 10, 13, which is the key to unlock the whole book, it says,
00:23:39But you have hidden these things in your heart.
00:23:44I know that this is with you.
00:23:47So something was hidden in God's heart concerning Job.
00:23:51He knew that this was with God, but he didn't know what was hidden in God's heart.
00:23:58Now, what question does this pose?
00:24:01This poses a question of two parts.
00:24:05A question of two parts.
00:24:07And this question of two parts is this.
00:24:10What is God's purpose in his creation of man?
00:24:15What is God's purpose in his creation of man?
00:24:18That's the first part of the great question.
00:24:21Second part.
00:24:24What is God's purpose in his dealing with his holy people?
00:24:30What is God's purpose in his creation of man?
00:24:33And what is God's purpose in his dealing with his holy people?
00:24:39You know, we pass through things.
00:24:41A lot of times the first word that comes to us is, why?
00:24:46Why did this happen?
00:24:48Why am I going through this?
00:24:49When you're going through this, you have the great answer.
00:24:53All of us have the great answer.
00:24:55So as soon as you ask why, if why comes up in your being, you have the answer.
00:25:00You have the answer.
00:25:02The answer is in Ephesians 3.9.
00:25:06Ephesians 3.9 tells us what is hidden in God's heart, not only for Job, but for
00:25:12us.
00:25:13What is God's purpose in his creation of man?
00:25:15What is God's purpose in his dealing with me?
00:25:19In his dealing with his holy people?
00:25:21And I'm one of his holy people.
00:25:23Well, Ephesians 3.9, Paul talks about his commission to enlighten all,
00:25:29that they might see what the economy of the mystery is,
00:25:33which throughout the ages has been, listen to these next three words,
00:25:38hidden in God.
00:25:40Hidden in God.
00:25:43So, Job said, I know you have hidden these things in your heart.
00:25:50You have to come to Ephesians 3.9.
00:25:52What is hidden in God is God's eternal economy.
00:25:58The economy of the mystery is hidden in God.
00:26:01So why do we pass through things, brothers?
00:26:03It's because God wants to fulfill his economy in us.
00:26:08And with his economy, his economy cannot be carried out unless you have God's dispensing.
00:26:16God's dispensing is for God's economy.
00:26:20So we go through things.
00:26:22The answer to why we go through anything is God's economy with God's dispensing.
00:26:29You can't separate those two.
00:26:30So we can all testify, brothers, that when we pass through things,
00:26:35it opens us up more to God's dispensing.
00:26:39God wants to dispense himself into a certain part of our being that might be closed to us,
00:26:45and we're not aware of it.
00:26:47But when we pass through things, and we all pass through sufferings,
00:26:51we all pass through heat and pressure.
00:26:55Brother Lee said in the Genesis Life Study, and I've repeated this, I'll say it again,
00:27:01he said there's a great oven in the Lord's recovery,
00:27:05and there's room in that oven for all of us.
00:27:10Now, when we're in the oven, we need to open up to his dispensing.
00:27:15Don't ask the Lord to turn up the heat.
00:27:17He'll take care of that.
00:27:19He knows just the amount of heat and pressure we need, right?
00:27:23But when we're going through this heat, through pressures, through trials, through afflictions,
00:27:29through sufferings, God wants us to open more and more and more to him.
00:27:36Here's a quote from the ministry.
00:27:39The one who experiences the greatest amount of transformation
00:27:43is the one who is the most open to the Lord.
00:27:49You know, when you're passing through things, you do not pray doctrinal prayers.
00:27:54Now, this is a ludicrous illustration.
00:27:57But if you're going over Niagara Falls, you don't pray doctrinal prayers.
00:28:02You don't say, oh, Father, I thank thee for this blue water and the green grass on the side.
00:28:08And, oh, I hear the birds chirping.
00:28:09You're not going to pray a doctrinal prayer.
00:28:12You're going to say, oh, God, save me.
00:28:15You're going to be real.
00:28:17You're not going to pray a long, explanatory prayer.
00:28:22You know, sometimes we pray, we give explanations and things.
00:28:25And instead of just, tell me what you want, Brother Ed.
00:28:28I know all that.
00:28:29You don't have to give me a message.
00:28:32You know, you remember Bartimaeus, the blind man on the side of the road?
00:28:37They were crying out to the Lord.
00:28:39And so the Lord turned to them.
00:28:41He said, what do you want?
00:28:43What do you want?
00:28:44Bartimaeus didn't say, Lord, I know you know everything about the eyes.
00:28:51You're the best ophthalmologist in the world.
00:28:54You know about the cornea, the iris.
00:28:58He didn't say that.
00:28:59He didn't even say one sentence.
00:29:02He said a phrase.
00:29:04What do you want?
00:29:06That I may see.
00:29:11There's no subject and verb there.
00:29:14You know, it's a phrase.
00:29:16Of course, I and see.
00:29:17But it's kind of an agitable phrase.
00:29:21That I may see.
00:29:23This is the way we should pray in the prayer meeting.
00:29:26Oh, Lord, I know you can do this.
00:29:28You can do that.
00:29:29I know I know I can do this.
00:29:31Let's get to the point.
00:29:32What do you want?
00:29:34Okay.
00:29:35So I hope you see this.
00:29:36The great question hidden in God's heart is what is God's purpose in his creation of man?
00:29:43And what is God's purpose in his dealing with his holy people?
00:29:48Job 10.13, I know you have these things hidden in your heart.
00:29:52That's the great question.
00:29:53And the great answer is in Ephesians 3.9.
00:29:57What is hidden in God is his eternal economy with his divine dispensing of his triune being
00:30:07into our tripartite being for the building up of the church as the body of Christ to consum
00:30:13mate the new Jerusalem.
00:30:14That's what's hidden in his being.
00:30:18Isn't that wonderful?
00:30:19Saints, I love that.
00:30:21The great question and the great answer.
00:30:24Job 10.13, Ephesians 3.9.
00:30:26Okay, now see, God's economy is to dispense himself into our being that our being may be constit
00:30:35uted with his being.
00:30:36That's the great answer.
00:30:38This can be accomplished only by God dispensing himself into us as the divine life.
00:30:48Now, we know, and I will just give you a reference for this, for anybody who's listening that's
00:30:55brand new,
00:30:56If you look at note 4 of Romans 5.17, this note, note 4 of Romans 5.17,
00:31:05says explicitly the meaning of zoe, zoe, suke, and bios.
00:31:14These three Greek words can be translated life.
00:31:18Soe, it says, signifies the eternal, divine, uncreated life of God.
00:31:28Then suke signifies the life of the soul.
00:31:31That's where we get the word psychology from.
00:31:34The mind is the leading part of the soul.
00:31:36Suke is the soul life, the life of the soul.
00:31:40And bios is the physical life.
00:31:44That's where we get the word biology from.
00:31:47Bios, suke, and zoe.
00:31:49Now, we can take courses in college in biology.
00:31:56We can also take courses in psychology, which is to study the mind, the leading part of the soul.
00:32:04But there is no class at UT Austin or Harvard, wherever.
00:32:11You see Berkeley.
00:32:13You see San Diego.
00:32:14Let's stop there.
00:32:15Okay.
00:32:16There is no class in zoeology.
