05:16He now begins partner stretching exercise.
05:21By working with a partner, you are able to stretch beyond the limit that you would stretch
05:25alone.
05:28In this routine, your partner puts his heels above your ankles, pulling you forward.

06:02Two.
06:06With the brief warm-up now completed, we go into the stances of Lima Lama.
06:11These stances relate very much to Japanese or Okinawan styles of karate.
06:21The first stance is a ready or attention stance with your feet shoulders-width apart pointed
06:26straight ahead. From here you will work into all your other stances. To the horse stance,
06:40feet very wide apart. Again, placing your weight down on your knees. This helps to strengthen the
06:47thigh muscles. Keep your toes pointed straight ahead. And notice the fists ready at the sides.
06:55The back is straight and the head is up. This is a very strong fighting stance.
07:18Next, we have the hourglass stance. With the right leg forward, turn the toes inward. Keep
07:29the knees bent. Keep your weight 50% on each leg. Distribute it equally. Back straight and head
07:39up. When you turn the toes in, tighten the legs slightly. This will help grip the ground. Keep
07:55you very stable. Next, the cat stance. A very popular stance in many styles of karate. In this stance,
08:08you put 70% of your weight on the rear leg and 10% on the front. Most of the
08:18weight is on the rear,
08:19so you can kick easily with the front leg. Keep the lead leg high on the ball of the foot.
08:40Now we have the T stance. Very similar to the cat stance, but keep the lead leg flat on the
08:46ground,
08:47instead of on the ball of the foot. Again, distribute most of your weight on the rear leg as if
08:52you were
08:52sitting down. You want to keep that lead leg light so you can kick with it very easily.
09:06Next, he shows the standard fighting stance. A wide stance, keeping your hips sideways at your opponent.
09:18A very versatile stance, and it's very easy to move in this stance. Shifting back, front, side, or rear.
09:40From the stances, we go to the punching techniques of Lima Lama. Again, many of these relate
09:46to popular karate systems. First punch is the reverse punch.
10:01Keeping the fist tight, circle step forward with the right foot. Strike and twist your fist at the last
10:09moment of impact. Application on an opponent. When you strike with the fist, you hit with the two large knuckles.
10:28Notice, whenever you strike, the other hand retracts to the chamber on the hip.
10:44Now we have the shoot-o or chop hand strike. Comes around with the edge of the hand striking into
10:53the neck.
10:56It can also be used to the rib cage.
11:05Look at it from the side. Comes around and snaps in, keeping the fingers tight together. Thumb down.
11:15A loud shout on impact.
11:20The shout will give you a burst of energy and power and also startle your opponent.
11:25Notice how it's used up and down the body. Ribs, groin. A very versatile strike.
11:42This strike is called the hammer fist strike. Coming around with the side of the fist. A most devastating strike.
11:52It's used to the temple. Also to the ribs, groin, solar plexus.
12:05Twist the fist in at the last moment.
12:10Look at the power in slow motion. Can you imagine getting hit with that strike?
12:15You would never get off the ground.
12:23The art of Lima Llama is known for its devastating hand and blocking techniques.
12:43Watch the targets again. Temple, chest, collarbone, groin.
12:57Now we have a ridge hand striking with the inside edge of the hand.
13:02Comes around into the temple area. Crushing the temple.
13:09A short whipping motion. Notice how the other hand blocks the midsection.
13:21You should be practicing along at home as the master performs each technique.
13:33Striking across the ribcage. Into the groin.
13:40This is called a ridge hand.
13:47The master now strikes with a palm heel strike.
13:54Pulling the fingers way back and striking with the full palm of the hand.
14:00Face, solar plexus, and groin. Look at the power.
14:04This is probably the most devastating hand strike there is.
14:13Put all your energy behind each technique.
14:20The application. Cross the nose, solar plexus, groin.
14:27You never know what area will be open on your opponent.
14:32Be ready to strike at anyone, at any time. Don't always expect to hit your opponent in the face.
14:39What if he blocks? Then go to the groin. Always be aware of this.
14:44Now, the fingertip strike to the eyes. One strike to the eyes, your opponent is finished.
14:49No one has strong eyes. Everyone will suffer from this strike.
14:55Watch closely. The fingers together, straight and strong.
15:00Bent slightly, so you don't jam your fingers on impact.
15:05Add the shout. Add the shout for power.
15:09Get into your workout. Follow along with the same spirit the master shows.
15:17Don't be lazy. Get up and do the workout.
15:23Notice the strike straight into the eyes. Very simple, very effective.
15:30This is especially good for women.
15:32You don't need a lot of power to hurt somebody in the eyes if they attack you.
15:37And of course, never use these techniques unless your life's in danger.
15:43The back knuckle snap strike. Watch.
15:47A tight fist snapping across the jaw or nose of your opponent.
15:53Retract it immediately to protect yourself.
15:56Do not leave the strike out.
16:00Look at it from the side now.
16:06On an opponent to the temple, jaw, nose.
16:12Any one of the vital areas.
16:16And look at the control that the master exhibits.
16:28Next is the elbow strikes.
16:31These are used for in-close fighting when you cannot extend your arm.
16:35There's three. Under the jaw, to the ribs, and straight down with the tip of the elbow on the back
16:40of the neck.
16:42Under the jaw again. Now watch.
16:44Across the ribcage, breaking two or three ribs with one strike.
16:48And of course, breaking the neck or spine with the downward elbow strike.
16:59Notice the master's strong balance and good form.
17:05He always retains control when he strikes.
17:08So he can follow with another strike, punch, block, or kick.
17:14Never strike so hard that you fall off balance.
17:24Now watch these applications.
17:28A very versatile weapon.
17:30But look how close he is to his opponent.
17:33That's what the elbow strike is for.
17:35In-close fighting.
17:37And nine times out of ten, if you're attacked on a street, the opponent will be right on you.
17:42So practice the elbow strike.
17:44Now the bent wrist strike.
17:47Or chicken strike.
17:51It may look odd, but it's very powerful.
17:58Keep your wrist bent way back, and strike with the back of the hand near the wrist area.
18:20Watch again.
18:21Watch again.
18:28The application.
18:29Cross the temple.
18:32Down, breaking the collarbone.
18:39Very versatile weapon.
18:56Now we come to the kicking techniques of Lima Lama.
19:04Do not attempt these unless you have stretched the legs properly, as shown in the warm-up exercises.
19:11The first kick is a front kick to the groin.
19:15This can also be used to the solar plex, throat, ribs, knee.
19:26Follow along.
19:28Bring the knee up high.
19:30Snap the ball of the foot out and back.
19:33Keep those toes curled way back.
19:35Look at the power in slow motion.
19:44Push the leg.
19:44Enough power to go right through your attacker.
19:53Kicking into the groin.
20:00Notice the speed, the quick snap.
20:03Retract the foot so your opponent cannot grab your leg and trip you down.
20:09The next kick is a side kick.
20:11Slide your rear foot up, trigger the knee up high,
20:16and snap out with the side blade of the foot.
20:20Curl your toes inward and push the heel out.
20:24Follow along at home.
20:28Always do a couple slow to get your form and then speed and power,
20:32as if someone were attacking you.
20:51Now against an opponent, right into the ribcage.
20:56Look how the heel strikes in and the toes are curled back so you do not injure the foot.
21:00Hit!
21:11Because of the reach of the leg, this is excellent to use against an opponent who has a knife or
21:16club.
21:22We now have the back kick or spinning back kick.
21:26Turn your body, look over your shoulder, kick straight back with the heel of the foot like a horse.
21:32Very devastating kick.
21:39Twist quickly, strike with the heel, pulling the toes up.
21:45And back to a fighting position.
21:47Notice the strong balance.
21:56Speed is power.
21:58The faster the kick, the stronger the kick.
22:16When you're training, use your imagination.
22:18If you don't have an opponent or partner, kick into the mirror and use yourself as a target.
22:27Look at the quick turn and the explosion of power with the rear leg.
22:33The spin also totally confuses your opponent.
22:37When you turn, he may think you're running away.
22:40And as he moves in to chase you, he runs into the kick.
23:00Next we have the roundhouse kick.
23:03Bring your rear leg up high and twist your body sideways as you kick.
23:10He's striking with the ball of the foot, keeping his toes curled back.
23:15The same foot position as the front kick.
23:19Watch closely.
23:21The torque in the hips is everything.
23:23That's what gives you the power.
23:27The speed of take off and the quick twist.
23:38When they're done in slow motion, follow along at home.
23:43That's your opportunity to mimic the movements.
23:49Kick to the solar plexe.
23:51Head, groin, even the knees.
24:09Again, you will never have strong high kicks unless you go through the exercises to prepare
24:15yourself properly. Now we have a short upward front kick into the groin. Doesn't look like
24:26much, but it will drop your opponent in a split second. Go straight up between the legs
24:32into the groin. Sometimes the simplest is the most effective. This kick is almost impossible
24:45to see coming. Keep the legs stiff. Straight up in the groin. Now we have a step spin heel
25:05kick straight up to the groin. This kick is only used for very in-close fighting. Let's
25:11say the opponent grabs you in a bear hug. This is the kick you would use. Straight up between
25:18the legs into the groin. Watch. Step, turn with the heel up into the groin. One solid kick
25:28to the groin. And your opponent is finished. Again, follow along at home. If you have a
25:45heavy bag at home, you should try this kick and kick under the heavy bag. So you can get
25:50used to hitting an object, making contact. Now the same kick shown if someone grabs you from
26:05behind. Very simple. Straight up between the legs. We now have the knee kick. You do not extend
26:23your leg. You use your knee to strike and defend yourself. He sidesteps the punch. Knees the opponent
26:32into the groin, solar plexus, or face. Sidestep the power of the punch. Into the solar plexus.
26:45Did you ever get hit in the solar plexus? It isn't pleasant. You get the air knocked out
26:50of you and you're finished. Probably more powerful than the extended foot of a kick. Short and sweet.
27:15Definitely can save your life someday. Now we're getting a little more advanced with the jump-spinning
27:23crescent kick. Jump, turn sharply. Come around with the side of your foot. Keep your knees slightly bent.
27:32Taking your opponent's head off with this kick. Jump-spin. Use the momentum of your body to generate
27:41the power. This is advanced, so be careful. Look at the height he gets.
28:03The spin of your body weight is what makes it devastating. It's called a crescent because
28:09of the crescent shape of the moon. You connect with this kick and your opponent does not have
28:26a chance of recovering. Notice the perfect accuracy of Master Tabura's student.
28:49Spinning crescent again without the jump. Spin the body around sharply. Keep the toes curled straight up.
28:58And you're striking with the outside edge of the foot. Notice how the leg follows the shoulders as they turn.
29:14You must time it properly. If you kick too soon, you lose your balance and fall. When practicing, do it
29:24very slow to begin with.
29:25Just get the feel of it. Then start adding speed as you feel more comfortable with the kick.
29:42Watch it again, application. Spinning, striking across the face. Now we come to the true uniqueness of Lima Lama, the
29:52blocking techniques. What's special is their circular type of movements.
30:00And flow and follow up techniques. Watch carefully. Palming, the strike away, following with straight fingers to the eyes.
30:16You can only master these techniques by watching them over and over and over. Play back your machine and look
30:24at them each at least 10, 20 times.
30:30From the side. Double blocks striking with the finger tips. This is Lima Lama. Dynamic, explosive, devastating hand techniques.
30:57Locking two punches with the open palms.
31:02Countering to the eyes. Finishing with the hammer fist.
31:10You should be working with your partner at home. Follow along. These techniques will have added a whole new dimension
31:18to your karate kung fu training.
31:29Block, block, block, circular, circular.
31:33Palm strike to the temple. Hammer fist to the temple.
31:40The techniques flow. The master improvises. Use your imagination. Look at it from a different angle.
31:48This is the first basic blocking technique of Lima Lama.
31:55It's like a windmill technique. A constant motion.
31:58Not a rigid block stop counter. It flows. It flows.
32:04Because Lima Lama believes your attacker will keep coming until he stops. So you must be ready for the other
32:10hand.
32:12Don't assume because you block one punch he's going to quit.
32:17He'll keep the hands coming and feet coming. So be ready.
32:20Next technique. Blocking with the forearm. Again with the wrist. The wrist. And a hammer fist counter.
32:33Notice the flow. The hard saw. Softness of the blocks. Hard on the counter.
32:43These circular blocking techniques help to throw your opponent off balance.
32:49They disrupt his force. All of course to your advantage.
32:57When your opponent is off balance, he cannot strike with full power.
33:01Again, watch and follow.
33:03Watch and follow.
33:12Don't worry if you can't get it the first time. Try. Keep at it.
33:19Use your imagination. Block. Block.
33:21Strike. Strike. Strike. Strike.
33:45Now the application. Again, blocking two punches.
33:49Coming across the jaw.
33:51Countering with two strikes.
34:05Block. Block. Same hand. Block.
34:09Slap the face. Back wrist solar plexus. Palm face at the same time.
34:16Block. Block. Strike. Strike.
34:20Watch it over and over.
34:22And it will become a natural movement to you.
34:26Notice the master's flow.
34:29With little effort.
34:31He can deflect his opponent's attacks.
34:35This is the secrets of Lima Lama.
34:37The uniqueness of Lima Lama.
34:44This art does not believe in hard force against hard force.
34:49It believes in deflecting the opponent's strength.
34:53Using it to your advantage.
34:55He is.
34:56A series of circular blocks.
35:08Countering with the bent wrist.
35:10Or chicken strike that we showed earlier.
35:12There.
35:17These blocking techniques truly control your opponent's movements.
35:29Blocking across.
35:31Coming back blocking.
35:34Striking with the back of the open hand.
35:36Again.
35:39Finishing with a bent wrist strike.
35:43Follow along.
35:46Follow along.
35:47Follow along.
35:51Follow along.
35:57Follow along.
35:58Follow along.
35:59Follow along.
35:59There.
36:10Bye.
36:11Come on.
36:34the flow notice the relaxed state the master's in he's not forcing the
36:38technique but it's very deceiving he's exerting tremendous energy but only where it is needed
36:48nothing is wasted he has mastered chi or internal power he hits you three times before you know what
37:00happened and although those blocks look soft he's causing tremendous damage to the opponent's
37:06arms and legs as he kicks and punches him it's more like a delayed reaction the next day the
37:16attacker won't be able to walk because of the bruises
37:36again watch carefully poetry in motion this is one master you would not want to attack
37:52here's the application now watch again
37:58block strikes as he comes for the other block
38:04lot of deceptive moves that can't really be seen until they're applied
38:17awesome speed and power
38:24the master never meets his man straight on he turns to the side if he ever misses the block he's
38:32out of
38:33range of the punch there's a purpose for every move he does elbows of solar plexus bent wrist strike across
38:45the jaw palm heel to the jaw as you master the fundamentals of lima lama you can build on these
38:57techniques and develop your own
39:06study them carefully because who knows you might have to use them tonight what if you were assaulted how would
39:13you react
39:16well this is certainly a positive way to defend yourself did you see that strike across the jaw as he
39:24meets the other punch
39:28bent wrist to the solar plexus palm to the jaw coming back again across the jaw with the bent wrist
39:59look at his posture very relaxed he waits to the last moment then goes into action
40:09he virtually knows what his attacker will do before he does it
40:15he has developed a sixth sense
40:22this relaxed state is very important if you're stiff and nervous
40:27this your speed will not be there you'll move slow and tight
40:36relaxed
40:38and explosive
41:02watch again
41:04watch again
41:10yeah
41:11yeah
41:13yeah
41:15yeah
41:16yeah
41:17yeah
41:17yeah
41:21now
41:22on this technique everything is with the lead hand
41:27two blocks and a strike
41:30he does not use the rear hand
41:33of course the rear hand is there for a backup
41:37but by practicing this technique
41:39your lead hand can be equal to the power of two
41:51notice the shuffle forward on the strike to the face
41:58that shuffle adds power to the technique
42:00these fine points you should be very aware of
42:04they make the difference
42:07between
42:08realistic power
42:10and just nonsense
42:12just going through the motions
42:13you don't want to go through the motions
42:15you want to live the technique

42:20the technique
42:21so apply
42:23the fine points
42:24that is the secret
42:47slow motion block block
42:50and
42:52strike
42:53coming down with a palm heel
42:55you could also strike with a fingertip to the eyes
43:08oh yeah
43:12oh yeah
43:32whenever you see the master performing a loan
43:35that is the time for you
43:38to go along with him at home
43:43mimic his movements
43:48there is no reason
43:50you cannot learn these techniques at home
43:52if you practice diligently
43:55that is the purpose of this video
44:00it will bring you a whole new world of martial arts training
44:17that is the purpose of this video
44:18Master Tabura teaches in California
44:21and if anyone is interested
44:24in studying with him
44:26or having seminars conducted by him
44:29simply write Panther Productions
44:32in care of Master Ted Tabura
44:34and he will contact you personally
44:47now the application
44:49of the technique you just worked on
44:53again two blocks with the same hand
44:55coloring
44:59across the neck
45:00following with an elbow
45:01to the solar plexus
45:11look at it more closely
45:14you can also use the elbow to block
45:23That time he plied his rear hand to breaking the collarbone.
45:35Okay, block.
45:37Notice how he keeps his body sideways as he blocks.
45:43Comes down with the chop across the neck or breaking the collarbone, either one.
45:50Follows up, elbow to the solar plexus.
45:58Again, turns the wrist as he blocks, keeps the flow going.
46:07Of course, when it's done at full speed, it's all within a split second.
46:12There is no hesitations.
46:41There is no hesitations.
47:02Again, open hand, blocking techniques, working much with the lead hand.
47:17In Lima Lama, they believe the lead hand should be effective enough to block.
47:25The rear hand is a backup.
47:31They believe it does not take much effort to block a punch or redirect a kick if done properly.
47:46Their blocking theory is deflection.
47:51Sending the strike off onto a different course with little effort, which you can see is happening.
48:01It's just so interesting.
48:04You can see there is no limit.
48:04It's just a little bit.
48:31And then, if you want to stop doing this, you can see the same thing.
48:54Oh yeah!
48:58Study this series carefully as it is shown from a side angle now.
49:32The other one is the one.
49:33The other one is the one.
49:36The other one is the one.
50:28Now, the application.
50:30Again, blocking double punches, striking to the neck, down the collarbone, and to the face.
50:43Continuous.
50:47It's as if it was one movement.
50:50That's what you want to strive for.
50:52The constant flowing.
51:02These are just the basic blocking techniques of Lima Lama.
51:06As you get into the intermediate and advanced videos, you'll be amazed at the techniques involved.
51:15Techniques used against a gun attack, knife, two attackers or more.
51:23Training will truly turn your body into a whirlwind of defensive and offensive techniques.
51:32But first, the master wants you to master these fundamentals on the video you are now looking at.
51:47Now, from a different angle, you can see how the attacker is left vulnerable to all these counter attacks.
52:03We truly hope you have enjoyed Master Tabura's video and look forward to his advanced tapes,
52:12which will give you great insight into the devastating Polynesian martial art of Lima Lama.
52:44And I'm going to show you great insight into that, but mostly in the past.
53:02I'm looking for a couple of questions.
