00:00This abandoned football stadium in Taipei has been transformed into a community garden for local people, helping to keep the
00:06city green and it is just awesome.
00:08This stadium was a baseball stadium in the 80s and then it was a football stadium more recently, but it
00:13closed down in 2008.
00:14But instead of destroying it and demolishing it, they turned it into something the locals could use, a community garden.
00:20Families and individuals can come here and grow their own produce essentially, it's like a tidy garden in an old
00:25stadium.
00:25There's 80 to 100 small plots, roughly one to three meters squared each managed by local residents, mostly planter based
00:33cultivation to avoid loading the structure.
00:36They've also got trellised green corridors.
00:38They have programs for people to learn about seasonal planting workshops and even small citizen farmer plots.
00:45This initiative was all part of Taipei's push for urban micro farming to create a garden city using initiatives like
00:53this to get people interested in their environments.
00:55And it works. This place is now busier than it's ever been.
00:59I'd love to see this in the city that I live, there's so many abandoned buildings that have just been
01:02left to rot.
01:03Why not turn it into something awesome?
01:05Would you like to see something like this where you live? Let me know.
