An Ipoh City Council town planning unit assistant officer was fined RM3,000 by the Ipoh Sessions Court on Monday (April 20) after being found guilty of soliciting money from a business owner.

Syed Nazarudin Syed Mohamed Taib, 53, admitted to accepting RM2,000 from Chong Yin Mei as payment to extend the vacating period for her landscaping business premises in Taman Merdeka from two months to one year, on August 22, 2024.

00:47That same day, he contacted Chong and asked her to meet at the City Council headquarters regarding the investigation.
00:54On August 15, Syed Nazarudin returned to inform Chong she had two months to vacate or face a fine, but
01:03offered to extend the period to six months in exchange for RM2,000.
01:08Chong later lodged a report at the Perak Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters on the matter.
