00:01What's this fridge doing on a street corner in central Wrocław, Poland?
00:07Turns out, it's a charitable project.
00:10The fridge contains food, available to everyone, free of charge.
00:16These refrigerators are great. Many people are in need. More of them every year.
00:22The good thing is, it's an educational fridge that teaches what sharing is all about.
00:30Jan runs the project, setting up fridges around town.
00:33As his attire shows, he believes it's what's on the inside that counts.
00:40Listen up. My name is Jan Piontek. I'm the chairman of the Take and Help Foundation.
00:45People aren't defined by their clothes. What matters isn't taking, but giving.
00:50That's what makes us happy.
00:52So these two should be very happy.
00:55The couple takes some bananas and place beets in the fridge along with bread and soup for someone else to
01:02take.
01:03Sharing is what makes this charitable project so special.
01:08We drop off something almost every day.
01:11We don't always take something, of course, but sometimes we grab some lunch because it's so convenient.
01:19Poles have a big heart. We'd rather drop off food here so someone else can take it and it doesn't
01:24end up in the trash.
01:27It's all about giving and sharing. Piontek drops by often to fill up the fridges with food donations, for example
01:35from supermarkets.
01:39School children stop by as well. Some will drop off cookies they don't need and take some potatoes or a
01:44sandwich, for example.
01:46It's fantastic that they're learning to share. That's education. It's great.
01:52The fridge empties in no time at all. But most visitors feel too ashamed to talk to us.
01:59Although Poland's economy is doing comparatively well, some people are struggling.
02:07There are almost 20 such refrigerators in Wroclaw alone, and 1600 across all of Poland, with more being added.
02:16There are many kind-hearted people who call us.
02:19I have almost 60 places where people are offering to put up extra fridges.
02:24They're seeing that the project works and helps other people.
02:29The city government is offering financial support to the project,
02:32but it does pump the brakes when Piontek gets too ambitious.
02:38It's important to us that there are as many refrigerators as possible in the city, for people in need.
02:45When public funds are used, however, everything has to be absolutely transparent,
02:50and the quality of the food and the storage conditions must meet the highest standards.
02:57For Piontek, however, it's important that they can offer anything at all,
03:01making that happen can sometimes conflict with official rules.
03:08We waste a lot of food, and people are often ashamed to ask for help.
03:13So fridges are an easy way to help out.
03:17The food sharing project is also having an influence on people's meal plans.
03:21This couple, for example, is likely going to have every conceivable potato-based dish ever invented.
03:28Bon Appetit!
03:29These are the special предлож Joine for the coffee table.
03:30That's great, too.
03:32I hope it's important.
03:33This is definitely not an inspiration to addño commonly before today.
03:33And the food sharing with the food sharing from Mary Jane,
03:35is salvo, yeses for sofá dois, noes for doing economic consultations.
03:35I hope the fact that that mom was Butter chacun would offer food sharing this.
03:35You
