00:00The interview provides a glimpse inside the mind of a killer as he builds his story and his alibi.
00:05Take a look.
00:06Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at times when live TV news interviews took a dark turn.
00:12We won't be including serial killers or murderers who were interviewed prior to being identified,
00:17since those already have their own lists.
00:19Knox is into some freaky sexual things.
00:23She tried to pull in Meredith, who was a staid, buttoned-up Brit.
00:27She wasn't into it, and it went wrong.
00:31O.J. Simpson's slow-speed chase interview
00:34It was the verdict that stunned the nation.
00:37O.J. Simpson not guilty of killing his ex-wife and her friend.
00:40If you were old enough to watch this go down live, it's seared into your memory.
00:45After Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman were murdered, Nicole's ex-husband and
00:50NFL Hall of Famer, O.J. Simpson, was the prime suspect.
00:54Simpson agreed to turn himself in, but instead, he and a friend took off down the L.A. highway
01:00in the friend's white Ford Bronco.
01:02The iconic image, broadcast to 95 million people across every television network.
01:08Down there on the ground is a white Ford Bronco.
01:11Because of Simpson's fame, every news crew with a helicopter followed that car as it crawled
01:17down the highway for hours.
01:19TV broadcasts all over the world were interrupted, and more people tuned in to watch than watched
01:24the Super Bowl that year.
01:26Simpson didn't talk much during the chase, but his few words clearly came from a man in
01:32anguish.
01:32You can't take this.
01:33Oh, yes, you can't.
01:35Don't do this.
01:35All I did was love Nicole.
01:37All I did was love her.
01:38Interview with Manti Teo about the catfishing scandal.
01:42He was the star player whose heartbreaking loss of his girlfriend just before a big game
01:48made national headlines and made Manti Teo the individual story of the college football
01:52season.
01:53If you're a younger viewer who enjoys watching Teo's NFL football commentary today, this story
01:59is going to blow your mind.
02:01Teo was a college football star who was either the victim or the perpetrator of a massive catfishing
02:07hoax, depending on who you believe.
02:09In September 2012, he claimed that his girlfriend had died of leukemia.
02:14Some reporters started digging and eventually found out this girlfriend never existed.
02:19Teo later admitted he'd never met her in person and that he'd been catfished for years.
02:24And according to the sports website Deadspin, which broke the story, Lene Kukua was a hoax.
02:30And the picture we all saw of her was actually another woman who was very much alive and says
02:36she doesn't even know Teo.
02:37All this led to a bizarre and uncomfortable interview with Katie Couric.
02:41As she presses him on his previous lies and contradictory statements, Teo is at times evasive
02:48and at other times defensive.
02:50This whole thing is extremely strange.
02:52Are you that naive?
02:54It depends how you look at it.
02:56Mike Tyson
02:56Again, we are so sorry we stole your tiger.
03:00Don't worry about it, man.
03:01Today, he's the funny guy who makes cameos in the Hangover movies.
03:05In the 90s, Tyson was a force to be reckoned with in the ring and a menace outside of it.
03:11Introducing the one and only Iron Mike Tyson.
03:16From domestic violence allegations to a sexual assault conviction, Tyson clearly had anger
03:23issues, and they were on full display during this short interview.
03:27Tyson had been suspended from boxing for a year and a half after biting opponent Evander
03:32Holyfield twice during his previous match.
03:35While promoting an upcoming fight against Francois Botta, Tyson lets expletives fly on network
03:41TV.
03:42He's rude and belligerent to anchor Russ Salzberg, who gets fed up pretty fast and ends the interview.
03:48You have a problem?
03:49Turn off your station.
03:50Amanda Knox's bizarre behavior.
03:53This is their theory, that you went in there for some kind of freaky sexual activity that
03:58went wrong and your roommate wound up dying.
04:01Fair?
04:01That's what they say.
04:02That's what it is.
04:03Forget the headlines.
04:04That's the truth of the proposition.
04:06In 2007, this college student went to Italy to spend a year abroad, and found herself in
04:12the middle of a nightmare.
04:13Less than two months after she moved into her flat, her roommate was found murdered.
04:18Knox's unusual behavior in the immediate aftermath of the crime was probably at least part of the
04:23reason she became a suspect.
04:25I was outside in that courtyard, and I was standing there looking lost.
04:29She'd just seen the bloody body of her roommate, yet news cameras caught her calmly kissing
04:35her boyfriend while the police investigated.
04:37Things apparently got worse at the police station.
04:40Officers reported that Knox did cartwheels and splits and sat on her boyfriend's lap.
04:45After years of trials, mishandled evidence, and wild police theories, Knox was eventually
04:51acquitted.
04:52But some people still have their doubts.
04:54It was inexplicable, the idea that she had been murdered.
04:57Kanye's TMZ interview
04:59If you've ever witnessed a friend experiencing a mental health episode, this interview will
05:04look awfully familiar.
05:06We don't know for sure what's happening here, but the video is disturbing to watch regardless.
05:10These are human beings.
05:12Even like with George Bush, people said, don't apologize.
05:14I'm like, wait a second, I just saw...
05:16It hardly even qualifies as an interview, since it's primarily West ranting for long periods
05:22of time at the TMZ newsroom, and getting into an argument with Van Lathan over West's
05:27support for Donald Trump.
05:28He bounces erratically from one topic to another, clearly agitated or excited, but never really
05:34making any coherent points.
05:36Knowing everything we know about Kanye's mental health now, this just looks like a man who
05:41needs help.
05:42Two days after I got off of opioids, and I was addicted to opioids, two days I got off
05:46of opioids, I'm...
05:49He had a similarly ranty interview with Piers Morgan a few years later, and even briefly
05:54walked out of that one.
05:55Interview adjourned.
05:56Love you.
05:58Piers Morgan's interview with Alex Jones.
06:00That we have all of these foreigners and the Russian government, the official Chinese
06:04government.
06:05Kanye's rants have nothing on Alex Jones.
06:08Whose idea was it to let this conspiracy nod onto regular TV?
06:13This was supposed to be a debate over gun control in the US.
06:16Alex Jones had started a petition to deport Piers Morgan back to England over Morgan's frequent
06:21comments about violent crime and the need for stricter gun laws.
06:25Morgan invited Jones onto his show to discuss the issue, but there was no discussion.
06:30The knife doesn't kill people.
06:31The gun doesn't kill people.
06:33Yes.
06:34Listen, do you understand?
06:36Jones just ranted for 15 minutes straight.
06:38He yelled at Morgan, mocked his accent, challenged him to a boxing match, and answered his questions
06:44with nonsensical, unrelated questions.
06:46Morgan is barely able to get a word in.
06:49We feel crazy just listening to it.
06:51Listen, that the so-called semi-autos that you talk about...
06:54Let's take a break.
06:55Let me come back.
06:55Again, you're not going to get our guns.
06:57Mann interrupts news report about women's safety.
06:59It was quite scary.
07:01This ITV news segment discusses the issue of women feeling unsafe in public, particularly
07:06at bars and nightclubs.
07:08The reporter meets with a woman and her adult daughter in a public park, where they share
07:12a story about the daughter nearly getting assaulted at a club when her mother was present.
07:17Sorry, love, we're just doing this thing for this charity.
07:20Can you give us five minutes?
07:22He refuses to leave so we can carry on filming.
07:24So for the safety of everyone involved, we leave.
07:27In the middle of the interview, a strange man plops himself down on the bench right between
07:32them.
07:33Despite them politely asking him to leave, he refuses.
07:36So they leave.
07:37It's an intimidation tactic that's familiar to many, many women.
07:41And it's scary to watch it play out in real time, on camera.
07:45We had to move because we didn't feel safe when that man came up to us and started threatening
07:51and intimidating us.
07:52Heartless reporter interviews man after crash.
07:56Imagine you're working near a busy road, and shockingly, you see a pedestrian get hit
08:00by a large truck.
08:02What would you do?
08:03If you're a normal person, you'd probably dial 911 or rush to see if you can help the
08:07man.
08:08If you're this reporter in El Salvador, you grab your microphone and camera crew and
08:13see if he's lucid enough to be interviewed.
08:15This clip made international headlines in 2016, and it's easy to see why.
08:20The man is on the ground, writhing in pain, barely able to speak.
08:25But the reporter sounds like she's chatting with visitors at the county fair.
08:29Some news outlets claim that the man was believed to have died shortly after the accident.
08:34David Horowitz is taken hostage.
08:36The man who had been permitted to watch the broadcast in the studio had given no indication
08:40of his intent.
08:41He had been sitting quietly until David Horowitz was ready to begin broadcasting his consumer
08:46segment.
08:47It started as an ordinary afternoon newscast, then turned into a hostage crisis, and briefly
08:53into a one-on-one interview between the reporter and the gunman.
08:57In August 1987, a strange man walked into the KNBC news studio in the middle of a broadcast,
09:03and held a gun to reporter David Horowitz's back.
09:07He handed Horowitz a piece of paper to read, and unsurprisingly, it was full of conspiracy
09:12theories about the CIA.
09:14But before he started reading, Horowitz's reporter instincts kicked in.
09:18He asked the man a few questions about himself, and learned his name was Gary.
09:23Whether the reporter was stalling for time, or trying to keep the man preoccupied,
09:27is unclear.
09:28But Horowitz's own calm in this situation is impressive to watch.
09:32Jerry Sandusky
09:33If you missed the news report about this scandal in the early 2010s, count yourself lucky.
09:39Sandusky was convicted last year of 45 criminal counts and is serving a 30-to-60-year prison
09:44sentence, all the while maintaining his innocence.
09:47Sandusky was a Penn State football coach and founder of a charity to support at-risk kids.
09:52Around 2008, some boys alleged that Sandusky had abused and assaulted them.
09:58Over the next few years, more victims came forward and shared stories of Sandusky abusing
10:04them repeatedly.
10:05In 2012, he was convicted on numerous crimes, and he'll be enjoying the hospitality of the
10:10Pennsylvania prison system for the foreseeable future.
10:13During the investigation, NBC dug up a truly disgusting 1987 interview with Sandusky.
10:19I enjoy being around children, I enjoy their enthusiasm, I just have a good time with them.
10:27In it, he talks about how much he loves working with kids, especially the trust he's able
10:31to build through his charity.
10:33Everybody needs people to care for them, sometimes they don't want it, sometimes they don't
10:37understand what you're trying to do, but they want to be disciplined.
10:40Which of these TV news interviews creeps you out the most?
