00:06My Peace
00:07There is a word in John 14 verse 27 that is easy to pass over and yet carries enormous
00:14weight.
00:15Jesus did not say, I give you peace.
00:17He said, My peace I give unto you.
00:20The possessive pronoun changes everything.
00:22He was not directing the disciples toward a general spiritual resource available to those
00:27who pray enough or believe hard enough.
00:30He was giving them something that was specifically and distinctly His.
00:34This raises an immediate question.
00:36What was the peace of Jesus?
00:38What did it feel like from the inside to be Him, moving through a world that misunderstood
00:43Him, opposed Him, and would ultimately crucify Him, and yet to walk in peace?
00:48The answer is found in part in Isaiah 26 verse 3, written centuries before Bethlehem.
00:54Thou wilt keep Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee, because He trusteth
01:00in Thee.
01:01The peace of Jesus was the fruit of a mind that never drifted from the Father.
01:06In every pressure, in every storm, His inner life remained oriented toward God.
01:12That orientation was the source of His peace, and that is precisely what He was transferring
01:17to His disciples that night.
01:19Not a feeling to be worked up, not a temperamental calmness some people are born with and others
01:25are not, but His own settled, rooted, Father-facing peace.
01:30The same peace that would hold Him together in Gethsemane.
01:34The same peace that kept Him silent before Pilate.
01:37The same peace that allowed Him to say, from the cross, Father, forgive them.
01:42That peace is not kept in reserve for Jesus alone.
01:46He left it.
01:47He gave it.
01:48It belongs now to every one of His own, available not because circumstances have aligned in our
01:54favor, but because the One who overcame every circumstance lives in us.
01:59Reflect.
02:00When you think of the peace of Jesus, what comes to mind?
02:04How does it differ from the peace you typically pursue?
02:07What would it mean today to keep your mind, stayed, on God in the way Isaiah 26 verse 3 describes?
02:14Prayer.
02:15Prayer.
02:15Lord Jesus, I receive the peace you have given, not a feeling I must manufacture, but your own
02:22peace, transferred.
02:23Teach me what it means to walk in it today.
02:26Fix my mind on the Father as yours always was.
02:30Amen.
