Follows Tony Godwin and his work with cops who uncover online exploitation and bring perpetrators to justice before they harm children.
Transcript
00:00The following program documents real law enforcement investigations of child sexual predators.
00:05This deeply disturbing content may be triggering for some viewers.
00:09Please watch with care.
00:11Next, Detective Tony Godwin and his team investigate a suspect with top-level security clearance.
00:18He was on Air Force Two, the plane of the Vice President of the United States.
00:23I enjoy putting guys in jail for this, you're under eight, and I'm just a dirty old man.
00:31Hey, it's the police! Open up!
00:33Then, a new lead. A man suspected of tricking underage kids into performing on their webcams.
00:40I have a complete full description of you, more than you think I would want to know.
00:44Not with my . I don't show my .
00:47It doesn't get any worse.
00:49Detectives on scene, contacting a subject at the gas pumps.
00:53And the team comes face-to-face with one of the boldest predators it's ever encountered.
00:59I'm worried about everything you can find.
01:01We got you, Dougie Fresh.
01:03Get on ground!
01:05A team of police professionals in North Dallas has one goal.
01:09Get out of the court!
01:09Take down online predators before they harm a real child.
01:15Child predators are everywhere.
01:18Online predators pose the biggest danger to America's children today.
01:22Kids are being targeted at an alarming rate.
01:26This team is opening its case files for the first time to show you how it tracks them down.
01:33Alright, he's coming this way.
01:35And brings them to justice.
01:36By any means necessary.
01:39Candle card.
01:41This is Detective Tony Godwin, and his team is...
01:46The Predator Hunters.
01:51March 12th, 2010.
01:53Detective Tony Godwin watches a live feed from Las Vegas airport.
01:59This Predator thinks he's meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex.
02:05After grooming her for weeks with texts.
02:10And late night calls.
02:12What are you doing?
02:14I'm playing with myself.
02:16What he doesn't know, Tony's team is moving in.
02:20It's one of the most dangerous operations it's ever attempted.
02:26I've caught predators from all walks of life.
02:28But the one with the most surprising background is this guy, Darryl Walliser.
02:33This guy held a really trusted position in the US military.
02:37But then, his deviant desires kicked in.
02:41To stop him, I had to call in some help from out of state to pull off a high-risk
02:45takedown.
02:53The Walliser case happens in 2010.
02:56At the time, I'm looking at online chat rooms.
03:00The kids absolutely love them.
03:02They love the fact that they're kind of hidden.
03:04They can say anything they want.
03:06There's a lot of freedom involved with that.
03:08The flip side of that is this is also really good news for someone who's a predator.
03:19I start this undercover case by creating a profile of a 14-year-old female named Alicia.
03:27I log in to Nevada One chat room.
03:30I just sit and wait until a predator decides he's going to hit up on me.
03:33And it doesn't take long.
03:36At 10.34 a.m. I get a message from Phoenix 89032 with a coded message that says ASL.
03:43I know that to be age, sex, location.
03:46This is just a very common opening question that gets asked.
03:51I replied, 14, female, Texas.
03:54What about you?
03:55And he immediately replies back, 42, male, Las Vegas.
04:01As soon as I said I was 14, this guy should just disconnect and say,
04:05hey, sorry, you're too young.
04:06But that's not what he does.
04:08Because he says, so you got a boyfriend, I'm sure.
04:10And I tell him, I did, but he treated me like crap, so he broke up.
04:14And he responds, LOL, he didn't deserve you.
04:18Then he starts to say things that really make me concerned.
04:25It's really, really creepy behavior.
04:27And a red flag to me that he's done this before, probably with real kids.
04:31Here's where he goes next.
04:34Right there, the line in the sand is drawn.
04:37This guy is an absolute predator.
04:40Every once in a while, Lady Luck throws us a bone.
04:44In this case, I received a friend request from Phoenix 89032.
04:50Once I accept it, it immediately swapped his username to his real name, Daryl Walliser.
04:59It's a goof up on his part, absolutely a thousand percent.
05:02And he's dumb enough to list his real name.
05:05And he doesn't even know that it's displayed out there.
05:08That's a big win for me.
05:13Tony calls in fellow detective Clint McNeer to track down Daryl Walliser.
05:20Initially, we need to help Tony positively identify who this person is.
05:25We need to know, are they dangerous?
05:27Do they have a violent past?
05:28Have they harmed other children potentially?
05:31Who are we dealing with?
05:33I start by doing a background check on Daryl Walliser.
05:36What we get back is a heap of information and none of it is good.
05:41Daryl Walliser has two previous sex offenses against children.
05:46The first goes back to 2004, Wayne County, Ohio, solicitation of sex with a child.
05:53Walliser did 10 months.
05:55Not long after, 2005, we're in Bedford County, Virginia.
06:00Walliser picks up yet another charge for solicitation.
06:03We get his prison records, reveal his mugshot.
06:06We get a picture of Daryl Walliser.
06:09We now know what our man looks like.
06:11We've got our guy.
06:14My next step is to go through any news articles and see if I may find anything related to Daryl
06:20Walliser.
06:21And what I find is one of the most remarkable backgrounds on an offender that we've had yet.
06:30Daryl Walliser served 18 years in the Air Force.
06:35During that service, he was on Air Force Two, the plane of the Vice President of the United States.
06:41All the while committing some of these offenses and preying on these children.
06:47His 2004 charge in Wayne County, Ohio, ends his military career.
06:54Walliser's got history.
06:56Tony must move quickly to prevent him from harming a real child.
07:03It's now that Walliser drops a bombshell.
07:10I'm prepared for this because this is a really common thing that these freaks need to hear the voice of
07:17a young girl who they envision in their mind that they're talking to.
07:21Tony enlists fellow detective Danielle May to be the voice of Alicia.
07:27Tony came to me and asked me if I would be interested in helping him provide a voice.
07:33He needs voices to create the realness of the chats that he's been doing online.
07:40Danielle can sound like a pretty convincing 14-year-old on the phone, so I exchanged cell phone numbers with
07:46Walliser.
07:47And what I need to do now is have Danielle speak to him.
07:51So, like, just before this call happens with Walliser, like, internally what's going on?
07:57Is it a combination of fear and scared or nervous or what?
08:03Fear, yeah, I'm nervous. I'm grossed out. But I know we gotta do it.
08:08You ready? Let's fire it up.
08:16Hello?
08:17Hello.
08:18Hey. You called quick.
08:21I had to.
08:23How come?
08:25Because I wanted to talk to you.
08:27Man, you're too good to be true. I'm just worried that you're a cop or something.
08:30They enjoy putting guys in jail for this.
08:34For what?
08:36For talking to minors.
08:38Oh, well, how come?
08:40Because it's illegal. You're under eight. And I'm just a dirty old man.
08:45Walliser is one of the worst that I've spoken to that just shamelessly and quite directly showed his intent, bad
08:56intent.
08:57So where you at right now?
08:59Where?
09:00Yeah.
09:01In my room.
09:02Yeah?
09:02Mm-hmm.
09:03On your bed?
09:04Mm-hmm.
09:05Wish I was there?
09:08Me too.
09:12Can only imagine what we'd be doing, huh?
09:19What are you doing?
09:21Take one guess.
09:25I know it's a necessary evil. I know this is perfect for our case. But watching you is really difficult.
09:48Don't worry about that. This moment of uncomfortableness is completely worth it.
09:54At this point, he's not hiding it. He's not hesitating. I need to get him off the streets fast. Time
10:00to set the trap.
10:06Detective Tony Godwin is hunting Daryl Walliser. The child predator has taken the bait. Tony's next step is to set
10:17the trap.
10:18He is so convinced now that Alicia is real. He just goes all in. Like, he's just texting for hours
10:26and hours and all of this really significant sexual deviant conversation. It just simply confirms in my mind, like, I
10:35need to start putting something together now. I need to organize a takedown.
10:46The problem with Walliser is he's never coming to Texas. He's got priors and he's not allowed to leave the
10:53Las Vegas area.
10:55If he can't come here to see Alicia, then I'll take her to him.
11:03I put a plan together for this takedown to happen on the first day of spring break.
11:13Tony contacts law enforcement in Las Vegas.
11:17They connect him with Special Agent Marty Yates.
11:21I get a call from Detective Tony Godwin, and he explains to me that he works in Internet Crimes Against
11:28Children.
11:28He said that he had met a guy online, someone that's in the Las Vegas area, that has expressed a
11:34desire to meet a 14-year-old girl.
11:36That clock starts ticking.
11:41Alicia has indicated her mom is going to go do some gambling at a local casino, which has a movie
11:47theater, and that while her mom is gambling, she's going to attend a movie.
11:51And that's where she could meet Walliser.
12:01Walliser is so, like, amped up and ready for this. He's just so emotionally charged.
12:06He actually suggests that we have sex right there in the movie theater.
12:09It's not going to be difficult to keep him on the hook.
12:17The plan is for Marty's team to take down Walliser at the movie theater.
12:23Alicia tells Walliser that she will fly to Las Vegas the day before.
12:28The Predator's response changes everything.
12:39If he goes to the airport and doesn't see Alicia, the case is blown.
12:44I have no choice but to organize a takedown at the airport.
12:47An airport is probably the worst location to try some sort of a takedown.
12:55There are thousands of passengers coming and going.
12:58It's the worst case scenario in my mind.
13:01I'm not there. I have no control over anything that's going to happen.
13:13Marty and his team wait for two hours.
13:24Then at 8pm, they spot their target.
13:29When I see Walliser walking into the terminal,
13:32from a law enforcement standpoint,
13:35you start to think,
13:37OK, well now what's going to go wrong?
13:39We have five agents on the terminal floor.
13:42I have Las Vegas Metro Police Department.
13:45I can feel the tension.
13:47Walliser is constantly scanning every angle.
13:52All it would take is for Walliser to look up
13:55and see two or three people looking at him and he's gone.
14:02Once Alicia's flight lands, I send a text message to let Walliser know that I'm there.
14:14I call for the takedown.
14:16More Metro officers approach him.
14:19And then another, and then another.
14:21They just put the handcuffs on him.
14:24Thank goodness no one got hurt.
14:25We got him. We got him.
14:28As this arrest is taking place, I am on a phone call with Marty.
14:33I'm hearing noises.
14:34At one point, I hear some thumping.
14:36And then I hear this sort of guttural,
14:39No! Not again!
14:44I'm walking behind the two agents that are escorting him to their police station.
14:49And the entire time, Walliser is screaming.
14:54He knows he got caught.
14:56He knew that the little voice in the back of his head that he ignored,
14:59or couldn't pay attention to, was right.
15:03I get Walliser into the police station and he's just so defeated and just caves.
15:11One of his lines was, I don't have anyone else to blame but myself.
15:24It's September 19th, 2023.
15:28Tony's team prepares to raid the home of a predator.
15:34Hey, it's the police! Can you open up?
15:37The guy that lives in this apartment is screen recording vulnerable minors
15:42and rewarding them with gifts.
15:44He's got his cameras on him.
15:46There's a chick on there right now.
15:47He has no idea that his sick enterprise is about to come crashing down.
15:54I have a complete full description of you, more than you think I would want to know.
15:58Not my . I don't show my .
16:04Predators are always looking for new ways to exploit minors online.
16:08Take this guy, Joel Silverman.
16:10He used a live chat platform to groom a miner from the other side of the United States.
16:16This guy gave money and gifts to a child in order to get them to do things online and buy
16:21their silence.
16:22We had to take him down.
16:30This case begins on the 28th of August, 2023.
16:33I get a call from Detective Saarinen, a thousand miles away in Minnesota.
16:38He's just spoken to a mom who's worried her daughter is talking to a guy online.
16:43Detective Saarinen subpoenaed Snapchat for an ID on this guy's profile.
16:47The suspect's name is Joel Silverman, and he's in my jurisdiction.
16:51The mother's report points to this guy, Joel, being engaged in seriously illegal behavior with minors.
16:59Detective Saarinen sends Tony a recording of the mother's call to the police.
17:10This hits me right in the gut. It literally makes me sick to my stomach.
17:11Hi, this is Officer Mark with Moorhead.
17:14Hi.
17:15Hi, so you wanted to speak to an officer about an incident that occurred with your daughter?
17:20My daughter's 13. This guy paid her to do, like, sexual things.
17:26But he knew she was 13 the whole time.
17:30This hits me right in the gut. It literally makes me sick to my stomach.
17:37Detective Tony Godwin reviews a call to police from a mother in Minnesota.
17:42A predator in Texas is grooming her daughter to perform sex acts online.
17:48My daughter's 13. This guy paid her not only once but twice with these Amazon gift cards to do, like,
17:58sexual things with him online or on the phone or whatever.
18:03I looked at her order history, and she had the first order was, like, just some clothes and lipsticks.
18:13But then she made a second order that had, like, a thong underwear.
18:20And that's when I was like, uh-uh. Like, she knew she was 13 the whole time.
18:27The detectives at Moorhead PD in Minnesota then interview the 13-year-old Silverman has been grooming.
18:35And he wanted me to, like, go on a medal and, like, pull off my body and, like, tease people,
18:43like, sexually.
18:45Omegle connects strangers on live video.
18:49It's over 18s only.
18:51But curious minors do use it.
18:55They don't store any chats. They don't store any information.
18:59And you're anonymized. So that's problematic for us.
19:04They gave me a $75 gift card to Amazon to, like, stay with him or, like, keep doing sexual stuff
19:16with him because he said, like,
19:19I need you. You're, like, the only thing I think about him, like, I can't leave you.
19:25And I felt bad, so I kind of just went like that.
19:32It sickens me to hear her talk about this.
19:35That's sexual performance by a child under 14.
19:38That's a first-degree felony in Texas. It doesn't get any worse.
19:44My team and I, we dig in on Joel Silverman, and we start using open-source sites.
19:50We use websites, databases, everything we can to find out everything there is to know about him,
19:55where he lives, where he works, and a pattern of life.
19:58I have to make an affirmative link between the Amazon purchases that were made for this child by Joel Silverman.
20:04So I issue a subpoena to Amazon to confirm the information I already have,
20:09and they drive me right to Silverman's address.
20:13It's time for Joel to face justice.
20:17Tony secures a warrant to search Silverman's apartment.
20:22The key to my plan is to bring in my partner, Robert Galladay.
20:26He's a member of the task force with me. He's also a digital forensic examiner.
20:30So this is Joel Silverman. He doesn't have any real criminal history.
20:34He's not a violent guy. Nothing to indicate he's been violent at all.
20:37I think it'd probably be best if you send the team up to knock the door,
20:41and then when you get in, you can hand him off to me at my truck.
20:44I'll bring him to you. I'll secure his electronic devices,
20:48and then I'll conduct a search and get back with you on what I find.
20:51It's go time.
21:06Hey, it's the police. Can you open up?
21:14Hello?
21:16Yeah, can you open up?
21:19Hey, how you doing? How you doing? How you doing?
21:21Are you Joel?
21:22Do you mind stepping out for me?
21:24Joel, we're here. Joel?
21:26Hey, Joel, come on out, buddy.
21:27Come on out here for a minute. No, no, no.
21:30Come on back here.
21:31What's wrong?
21:31Come on out here just a minute.
21:33Oh, okay. Right on out here.
21:34Here we go.
21:45Joel is your first name, right?
21:46Yes.
21:47What's your middle name?
21:48Silverman.
21:50Lemuel Silverman.
21:51Okay, do you go by Joel or Lemuel?
21:53Joel.
21:53Joel, I'm sorry.
21:54My name's Tony.
21:55Hi, Tony.
21:57I want to have a conversation with you as to why we're here.
22:00Um, I have some very specific questions.
22:03Okay.
22:04He said I have a warrant for my arrest.
22:06Um, we're going to talk about that.
22:09Oh, okay.
22:11The evidence of Silverman's crimes is locked inside his digital devices.
22:18Tony sends Detective Galladay into the apartment to secure them.
22:22Tony's talking to Silverman.
22:24I walk around the apartment.
22:28I find Silverman's bedroom.
22:30No, right here.
22:31His computer is connected to three computer screens and several storage drives.
22:36We're going to secure them so that he can't receive a wipe command and destroy evidence.
22:42He's got his cameras on.
22:44There's a chick on there right now.
22:50Silverman's online in an Amigle chat with a female.
22:53He could be committing another crime because he's recording the person on the other end maybe without their knowledge.
23:04Detective Tony Godwin grills Joel Silverman about grooming minors on the video chat site, Omigle.
23:13Did you communicate with a child online in a sexual way?
23:19In a sexual way?
23:21I have.
23:22Okay. In the past, currently, how many times?
23:26Um, on Amigle, yes.
23:29What's the youngest you think you've ever talked to?
23:31Young, 14, 15.
23:33Do you record it?
23:34I do.
23:35I do.
23:36I want to be more confrontational, but I can't be.
23:40It doesn't benefit me to do that.
23:43I've learned that over the years.
23:45I just let him hang himself with his own words that will be documented heavily and highly after the fact.
23:52Here's what I know.
23:53I know you talked to a girl.
23:55I know she was 13.
23:57I know that she live streamed with you.
24:02I know that you masturbated.
24:04No.
24:05She just, yes.
24:06She's, trust me when I tell you.
24:08I have a complete full description of you, more than you think I would want to know.
24:12Not my d***.
24:13I don't show my d***.
24:16That's the honest truth.
24:18Have you ever paid any of the girls?
24:21Paid?
24:22Paid them.
24:23I give them gifts.
24:25Like?
24:26Amazon gift cards.
24:32How much?
24:3440 to 80 dollars.
24:37Each time or?
24:38Just to, just to, kind of like, thank you.
24:45Or like, hey, you deserve this, you know?
24:49The fact that Silverman thanks these children for being paid for the sex acts that they've done,
24:56for his gratification, makes my stomach sick.
25:01He has done so much damage and has absolutely no clue that he's done that.
25:07Inside Silverman's apartment, Detective Galladay completes his scan of the suspect's computer.
25:13I find a whole treasure trove of evidence.
25:16A lot of incriminating images and videos.
25:19I also find a video of the minor that he was communicating with from Minnesota.
25:26She was clearly filmed without her consent.
25:29I get a message from Detective Galladay to let me know what he's found.
25:33And I can make the arrest any time I'm ready.
25:36I was told that they did find some things.
25:39If you are going to be arrested, you will get transferred to Dallas County.
25:43The charge is pretty heavy, I'm not going to lie to you.
25:45It's called sexual performance of a child under 14.
25:48And that's pretty serious.
25:51Pretty serious.
25:52I'm sorry, I just...
25:53Silverman is just blubbering and crying.
25:58But he's calculated.
26:00He's manipulating every situation for his own sexual gratification and benefit.
26:05Every purchase he makes, every request he has, every bit of it just further exploits kids.
26:12He has no regard for any of that.
26:15And that's really, truly the sad fact.
26:25The Silverman case is an excellent example of how a vigilant parent can detect and stop an online predator.
26:32The victim's mother recognized that something was wrong.
26:35And contacted law enforcement to prevent Silverman from harming her child.
26:39And other children.
26:41If you're a parent, follow the mother's example.
26:44Engage with your child about their use of the internet.
26:46And ask questions when things don't feel right.
26:50August 3rd, 2023.
26:53Detective Tony and his team stake out a gas station.
26:58We are here to wait for the arrival of Kenneth Douglas Rosenbaum.
27:05His vanity name is Dougie Fresh.
27:09He's a brazen predator.
27:12Yet cautious.
27:14It takes Tony weeks to lure him out into the open.
27:18And force him to face up to his crime.
27:22And how old's he?
27:25I'm not sure.
27:2516, 17.
27:27Nah, come on Doug.
27:29I know better than that.
27:31He's just 14.
27:36This guy.
27:37Doug Rosenbaum.
27:38From the first contact, his deviant sexual intentions were clear.
27:43His grooming skills showed me that he was an experienced predator that's just never been caught.
27:48We had to go slow to lure this guy from the shadows.
27:51And when it looked like he was about to emerge, he threw us a curveball that had us scrambling.
28:01Hunting predators is no 9 to 5 job.
28:05Tony communicates at all hours of the day and night to make them believe his undercover identities are real.
28:14On July 27th of 2023, I started an online proactive undercover investigation on a platform called Chat Hour.
28:21Chat Hour is a social media network that you can message people individually.
28:26You can be in a group chat.
28:28There's a lot of predatory behavior that happens on there.
28:32Real kids have been victimized on this platform, which is why I'm doing a proactive case here.
28:38I set up this profile using the name Bailey, a 14-year-old female from the Dallas, Texas area.
28:44Tony cannot reveal Bailey's profile picture.
28:47He uses it today in active investigations to catch predators.
28:53She's got her tongue sticking out. It's just a selfie of her.
28:56I put myself out there and I just wait and see what happens.
29:00At 9.15 p.m. I got a message, private direct message from a user named Dougie Fresh.
29:14Really?
29:16You're going to look at an innocent picture of a 14-year-old girl who's just got her tongue sticking
29:20out and turn it sexual right off the bat?
29:23I mean, classic predator behavior.
29:26He takes that innocent picture, uses it for his own sexual gratification.
29:30Really disturbing.
29:33This guy's a predator. It's time for me to dig in.
29:47No, Doug. That's not okay.
29:50You're a grown-ass man wanting to have sex with a 14-year-old kid.
29:54What are you thinking?
29:56You should take this opportunity to walk away, but I don't think you're going to do that.
30:01Time for me to figure out more about Dougie Fresh.
30:07Detective Tony Godwin is using an undercover profile to communicate with a child predator called Dougie Fresh.
30:19After about four days of this back and forth, I suggest we move out of the chat room on chat
30:25hour and we try something a little bit more direct.
30:33Now, at this point, I give him my undercover number. It tracks everything that I do. It documents everything for
30:41me. It's a best case scenario.
30:43As soon as I give him that number, he text messages me right off the bat.
30:50My day's doing a lot better today, Doug. Thank you. I got your phone number now. Now I'm going to
30:55figure out who you are.
30:58Tony enlists digital analyst Tavey Guthrie to unmask Dougie Fresh.
31:05Tony gives me a cell phone number. First thing I do is just check our local database.
31:12The DMV is showing me his DL photo and the name Kenneth Douglas Rosenbaum.
31:18So I guess Dougie Fresh is a play on Douglas, his middle name.
31:25We got you, Dougie Fresh.
31:31This is our guy, Kenneth Douglas Rosenbaum. His cell phone puts him in Pottsboro, Texas, but I've got another address
31:37in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
31:39His priors say he's got a DUI. If Tony takes him down, he just needs to know that when he
31:44gets there, we don't have a registered vehicle for him, so he doesn't know what he's getting.
31:49Oh, and Dougie Fresh, he is not 55. He's 60.
31:59Now that we've moved to text messaging, Rosenbaum is, he's on fire. He's blowing up the phone all day, all
32:06night.
32:07I have to keep reminding him that he's talking to a kid because I have legal requirements that I need
32:12to meet in order for the prosecution of a case to be successful.
32:16But that doesn't deter him.
32:22He sends it kind of flippantly like he's joking, but the reality is he's not joking at all.
32:31This guy is texting me all day, every day. No such thing as a day off. I can't even enjoy
32:38my soda in peace.
32:39Dougie Fresh texts again. This time he's a bit more cautious.
32:43So it didn't bother you when I said I would wash your back and dry you off last night?
32:48Sometimes I say stuff I'm thinking about that maybe I shouldn't.
32:52These predators, they know what they're doing. They know this attraction to children is completely wrong, but they have moments
32:59when they're not thinking so clearly about their own deviant feelings.
33:02Dougie Fresh says, to be honest, I'm not attracted to women my age. They're boring. I like to be spontaneous,
33:09do daring things, have fun.
33:11Well, clearly we understand you're not attracted to people your own age, Dougie Fresh, which is why you're trying to
33:17groom and sexually molest this child.
33:23I kind of just play along with him at this point.
33:26What I need from Doug now is to show what his real intention is, and that's to meet in real
33:31life.
33:32And I don't have to wait long.
33:40I've got this guy right where I want him.
33:49Rosenbaum agrees to meet Bailey at an apartment complex in North Dallas.
33:54Tony assembles his team to take him down.
33:58Next thing I know, Rosenbaum sends a message which is a little bit of a problem.
34:03Delaying the meeting a few hours means it's going to be getting dark when he arrives.
34:07We have to think on the fly and readjust.
34:10This predator, he can do anything he wants.
34:12So I've got to make it where it's safe for us and for him and for everybody else.
34:17I know that this gas station, even at night, is really well lit.
34:22It's a real good substitute for a location to take him down if it's going to happen in the hours
34:26of darkness.
34:29But he's really been cautious.
34:32And I'm hoping like a little last minute change like this isn't going to like freak him out and make
34:37him, you know, not show up.
34:44It's 8.29 p.m.
34:46We've moved locations.
34:47We're watching that Chevron gas station.
34:49I believe he's coming from Dallas, but we do not know what kind of vehicle he's driving, so.
34:55By 8.45 p.m., he still has not shown.
34:58I am quite on edge.
35:00Did I say something that caused this no show?
35:10He tells me he's pulling up, but there's not one car in that gas station.
35:15That statement is untrue.
35:17He is not pulling up because I have a complete visual on the whole place.
35:22So I'm in a bit of a panic.
35:27Detective Tony Godwin and his team stake out a gas station.
35:33They're waiting for Douglas Rosenbaum, the child predator who calls himself Dougie Fresh.
35:43This detective got him on the 3rd of August, 2023.
35:48Mr. Doug, Dougie Fresh, has indicated that he is in the area.
35:53Says he's here in this parking lot of the Chevron.
35:58So stand by and we'll see if it's him.
36:02I need more information on his vehicle.
36:05So I text him again.
36:14I'm not seeing a red truck, no.
36:18By the time I do see a vehicle come in, it's not red and it's not a truck.
36:27The message is really risky for me to send because it could blow up in my face.
36:32But at this point, I have nothing to lose.
36:3810, 18 PM, I get a message.
36:48So the subject is at the location we have detectives on scene contacting a subject at the gas pumps.
36:56Roger.
37:01Hey Brown, they wanted him out of here.
37:04On mine is some elucidation, I'm a minor.
37:10Yes.
37:16Now, it's time to speak to Mr. Rosenbaum.
37:19I have a lot of experience in this arena and I've perfected this craft over the course of my career.
37:27And I need to gather a little bit of information from you.
37:31Tell me your full name, sir.
37:35I come in nice and non-confrontational in the hopes that he might open up.
37:42What brought you to Texas today?
37:48Yeah, I was talking to some girl.
37:51Okay. Talking online.
37:53Exactly.
37:54Okay.
37:57Did you talk about having sex with this girl?
38:02Mm-hmm.
38:04Not intercourse.
38:06Okay.
38:07Yeah.
38:08And how old is she?
38:10I'm not sure.
38:12What do you think?
38:1416, 17.
38:15Come on, Doug.
38:17I know better than that.
38:20She's 14.
38:22When I challenge him, he has that realization.
38:26He, like, grabs his forehead in this, like, oh, moment.
38:31I'm in so much trouble.
38:33She talked about having and doing sex acts with her.
38:36Right?
38:38Yeah.
38:39I mean...
38:40I mean, I didn't share no pictures with her.
38:44I mean...
38:44But, you know, talking in a sexually graphic way with a child is also a crime.
38:49Right?
38:51How he's able to spin that up in his own mind, he's a grown-ass 60-year-old man.
38:57He absolutely knows what he did as a crime.
39:00You do get and understand that any kind of touch that's sexual in nature, any kind of oral...
39:08You know that's a crime, right?
39:10With a child.
39:11Yes.
39:11Okay.
39:12If I did it, it would be.
39:13It would be.
39:14Is your phone passcode protected or have a swipe pattern on it?
39:21Yes.
39:23Okay.
39:24I don't want a child going to my phone.
39:26Is there child pornography on your phone?
39:28It could be.
39:29How so if this girl didn't send you any photos?
39:34Or did she?
39:35No, she...
39:36No, I swear to God, she didn't, man.
39:38It's something I've got off the internet.
39:41I'm worried about everything you could find.
39:45Okay.
39:45You know, I mean...
39:47You're not convicted of anything, Doug.
39:49Well, I'm sure I will be.
39:51Well, other than those...
39:52There are some underage pics of underage girls on there.
39:56If I had gone at him just hard and heavy from the start, he would have clammed up in a
40:00moment.
40:00And now he's admitted to having child sex abuse material on his phone.
40:04At this point, I have absolutely everything I need to convince a judge and a jury.
40:09At the end of the day, he could just stop talking right now because I've got him.
40:14He's going to prison.
40:23Douglas Rosenbaum never stands trial.
40:27On March 29th, 2024, he takes his own life in jail.
40:32He made his choices.
40:34I carry the weight, but I don't carry the guilt.
40:37My job is to save kids.
40:46The Rosenbaum case shows that even though the messaging platform, in this case Chat Hour, is geared towards adults,
40:52it's easy for a curious teenager to gain access.
40:56A parent's first step to protecting children online is to police the age restrictions on the child's device.
41:02Rosenbaum was brazen about his sexual interest from the very first message he sent.
41:07So prevention is the key.
41:09Online predators can't reach children if those children avoid the places where predators lie in wait.
41:16And for those predators who are lying in wait, we will find you.
41:20It's just a matter of time.
