00:00But right now, I wanted to talk some NFL draft.
00:02We are less than a week away.
00:04The Commanders currently have the seventh pick in the draft.
00:08The draft is going to move faster this year.
00:11Only eight minutes between picks.
00:13That's fantastic news.
00:14I think when we went to the draft.
00:1615 minutes.
00:1715 minutes.
00:18We did two shows from the NFL draft in the 90s, I believe.
00:23Definitely in the 90s.
00:25Maybe we did 98-99.
00:27We might have done 99 in 2000.
00:29Sounds about right.
00:30But it was early in the show.
00:31Yeah.
00:31Early in the history of our 30 years.
00:34And there used to be 15 minutes.
00:36I know.
00:37It just would never get to the next pick.
00:39So now they are moving.
00:41Look, they know it's a TV product.
00:43They want it moving quickly.
00:44Hence, the now eight minutes between picks instead of ten.
00:47Yesterday, we talked about Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft where he had the Commanders swapping first-round picks with the Jets
00:55and acquiring a second-rounder and a fourth-round pick.
00:58Adam Peters yesterday spoke to the media, and he was asked about whether the team will trade back.
01:06Here's what the GM of the Washington Commanders said.
01:08You said at owners' meetings that you didn't anticipate a ton of trades.
01:12It's just you always need somebody to move up, and there's not that same level of quarterback class this year.
01:17Do you anticipate picking at seven at this point?
01:23Yeah, I certainly have to be ready to do that.
01:26I would say more likely than not that would happen, but you never know.
01:31You never know who's – it will depend on who's on the board if a team wants to move up,
01:36you know,
01:37and then we have to decide if we want to do that.
01:40But I would say more likely than not we'd stay and pick, but, you know, I don't foresee us moving
01:46up.
01:46But, you know, moving back just depends on the circumstances.
01:49But we're not like – I don't want to say we're not actively trying to move back.
01:53You know, we're always assessing our options and making sure we're ready
01:56and then understanding who's going to be there at certain positions and certain spots, you know,
02:01towards the middle to the later part of the first round, but – and just being prepared for that,
02:06but not really actively trying to get out of that at all.
02:09So if you take him at his word, which I don't know why we should, but I do, I thought
02:15that was important.
02:16They're not actively trying to move out of it.
02:18Now, they could get a bunch of calls.
02:20Here's another interesting anecdote that he said, that during Connerley's year, last year,
02:25they got a ton of calls.
02:26But they said going in, if Josh was there at 17 or 19, whatever the hell it was,
02:31they were going to take him.
02:32And so they rebuffed.
02:33They were like late in the first round.
02:35Okay.
02:3529, 28.
02:37Is it that late?
02:37Okay, I'm sorry.
02:38Somewhere in that range.
02:38So they said if Josh was there, they were going to take him.
02:40And they said they got a lot of calls.
02:42He reemphasized that yesterday.
02:44He said the year before with Jaden, it kind of goes against the common perception.
02:50With Jaden, they didn't get that many calls.
02:52They got no calls, I think he said.
02:54And that goes against the perception that if there's a quarterback-driven draft,
02:59you're going to get a ton of calls to move up.
03:02This is last year's draft, right?
03:04It wasn't about a quarter.
03:06He got a ton of calls.
03:07I just thought that was interesting.
03:09But I think for those out there that think you've got to have more picks,
03:15that's not their goal, necessarily.
03:17They're not looking to move out.
03:19They want to draft a great player.
03:20He's looking for the best player.
03:21They want to draft a great player.
03:23Right.
03:24They're not thinking, I need more picks.
03:26He's open to it, though.
03:27He's open to it, but that's not their goal.
03:28He's saying, I'm happy to pick at seven, but if I get an offer that comes in,
03:33I have to consider it.
03:35He's not just going to leave the phone off the hook and not take calls.
03:39A hundred percent.
03:39But he's not going in there seeking to trade down, which is a different idea.
03:47I think some people have thought, and I might even be part of this, that he's going in there
03:53thinking, I've got to move out of this pick.
03:54I need more picks.
03:55That's not how they're thinking.
03:57They're thinking, if we get a great offer and we think we can get a player we like,
04:02then sure, we'll consider it.
04:03But that's not the goal.
04:04I don't know how much I believe him, by the way, going back to the Daniels draft, that
04:07he didn't take any calls on moving off number two or people inquiring about moving up to
04:13number two to get Jaden.
04:14Because we saw Joe Shane with the Giants actively talking on Hard Knocks about potentially moving
04:22up to either get Drake May or Jaden Daniels.
04:24Yeah, but he didn't do it.
04:25They didn't call.
04:26He didn't do it, but that doesn't mean there weren't calls about it.
04:28Maybe.
04:29I think he's talking about in the moment.
04:30Right, right.
04:31He's talking about on the clock.
04:32He's talking about on draft day, on the clock.
04:34I'm sure they talked about it.
04:35Yeah.
04:36But on draft day, on the clock, they didn't get any calls for Jaden.
04:39They got a ton of calls for Josh.
04:40Right.
04:40Or, you know, for that pick.
04:41In that spot.
04:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:43Anyway.
04:44But yeah, I listened to that whole press conference.
04:47You know, they really don't tell you anything.
04:49He also says everyone's not telling the truth.
04:53They do their own mocks.
04:56They actually do monitor everyone else's mocks.
04:59And then he did point out that oftentimes it's different than what people in the league think.
05:04But it's important to think what the so-called draft experts think.
05:07So that you kind of have an idea what might happen in the first round.
05:11But they certainly do their own simulations.
05:13They monitor their own mocks.
05:15All that information is provided to them.
05:17And they, you know, they have no idea what's going to happen.
05:20It's not a year where they know what's going to be available at 7.
05:22But they have all the bases covered.
05:24All I know is I'm the anti-Adam Peters.
05:27Because yesterday I went down the sticktothemodel.com wormhole.
05:30And was mock drafting for the commanders.
05:33And every time I got offered something for the number 7 pick, I almost exclusively took whatever deal it was.
05:40Whether it was a second round pick, a future first round pick.
05:44I had a bunch of teams moving in for that number 7 spot.
05:47How were you grading out?
05:49It only let me pick through three rounds.
05:51I was getting like A's and A-minuses.
05:53Now again, it's a goofy internet, you know, like AI-driven, I'm sure, website.
05:59But it was fun.
06:00It was a fun exercise.
06:03I'm a trader.
06:04Now he might not be as big a trader guy.
06:07But I think he's going to get a few calls for that number 7 pick depending on how the board
06:11breaks.
06:11Yeah, I think it's possible.
06:13He actually said he doesn't anticipate a lot of calls.
06:19I don't know why.
06:21He says he thinks most of that will come in the middle to the later portion.
06:25He says guys get antsy.
06:27Maybe that explains why he was getting calls there for Josh's pick.
06:33But look, he also said a couple interesting things about all these guys at the top.
06:39They're all great players, like these top 7, 10, whatever guys.
06:45Do you have that audio?
06:46Yeah.
06:46Yeah, he uses the phrase most impactful player.
06:49And so this is what he's describing with a number 7 pick.
06:52Yeah, David, I think it's always the same.
06:55You know, you want to try to find a person that impacts your team.
06:58And when you're picking in the top 10, you know, find someone that impacts your team, you know, right away.
07:05And then for the long run and, you know, defensively specifically, that could be anywhere on the field.
07:10And there's a lot of guys in, you know, that will be possibly be there in different levels of the
07:16defense.
07:16You know, really every position, quite frankly, that can really impact us in a real positive way.
07:21So we're fortunate in that way.
07:23And it just depends on who's there and who we think can, you know, be the most impactful, not only
07:30in 2026, but in beyond.
07:32So I don't think there's anything, especially when you're picking in the top 10, there's not too many guys that
07:37aren't like scheme fits.
07:39You know, they're all pretty good.
07:40So I think it's just picking the most impactful guy that can help us and help us win games.
07:47They're going defense.
07:48They're going defense.
07:48There's too many, there's too many defensive choices.
07:51I don't know if that's the case.
07:52I think they're going defense cakes.
07:53I don't know if that's the case, but I do think.
07:56You could mock me when they pick Jeremiah Love.
07:59He's.
08:00Look, he also said he wants to find the best player that can help your team the most, regardless of
08:04position.
08:05Correct.
08:07Regardless of position means like, okay, best player available, but not really when you say best player that can help
08:12your team the most.
08:15But, like, for example, let's say David Bailey's high on their board and he slides all the way to seven.
08:20Now they added O-Way, they added Chase on, they will have Dorrance Armstrong back.
08:26I think they'll probably don't need.
08:29But they're going to draft him.
08:30An edge guy.
08:31They're going to draft him.
08:32They're going to draft him.
08:33But I feel like the defensive players, other than Love, who some people think is the best player in a
08:40draft, I don't think Love's going to make it to seven.
08:42So Love is the wild card.
08:44I don't think the top receivers are thought of as elite, elite, elite.
08:48But I think some of these defensive players are.
08:51I think it's better defensively at the top.
08:54I think they're drafting a defensive player.
08:55But if you go by can help your team the most, now maybe it's short term, wouldn't a receiver help
09:00their team the most?
09:01Because that's a big hole.
09:02If he's good.
09:04But these receivers are a little dicey.
09:06There's a little dicey element to it.
09:08Tyson has the injury.
09:09You got the one guy that's a little smaller.
09:11So he's a slack guy.
09:13The impact he might have.
09:14Tate is, you know, some people are concerned about what his real ceiling is.
09:18It's not a clear cut.
09:20I don't think these receivers.
09:21The one I think that's fairly clear cut, though, is Love.
09:24If Love is there, I think they draft him.
09:25I think he runs the card in.
09:27But I don't think he's going to make it to seven.
09:29The way they talked about Caleb Downs was pretty effusive, too.
09:32Oh, I think they did.
09:33I think it's.
09:34Caleb Downs could help their team the most.
09:36My instinct from day one has been Downs.
09:38Because I think he'll be available.
09:40And I just heard.
09:41I feel like DQ just let the cat out of the bag when he was talking.
09:45That might be his guy.
09:46He was raving about it.
09:47He's locked in.
09:48He also raved about Sonny Stiles.
09:49Sonny Stiles, too.
09:51Sonny Stiles, too.
09:52But I think they're going defense.
09:54I think they're going defense.
09:55There's more defensive great players at the top than there are offensive.
09:58They're going defense.
10:00Yeah, but if like three or four of those Ohio State guys are already plucked by the time
10:03they get to seven, and Love and Tate are both available, I feel like one of those guys
10:08is the pick.
10:09That might be true.
10:11Like if Stiles, Reese, Downs are all gone.
10:13Do you honestly think Love is going to be available?
10:15I heard a guy yesterday.
10:17I think it was with Grant and Danny.
10:19Maybe the case he could go three.
10:21Go to the Cardinals at three?
10:23Yeah.
10:23Go to the Cardinals.
