The Sports Junkies debate if the Washington Commanders should pursue Kayshon Boutte.
Transcript
00:00So we were talking about Brandon Iyuk earlier.
00:03It is the summer of Iyuk.
00:05And the reason he gets brought up all the time is because,
00:10at least perceived, there's a gaping hole for the Washington Commanders
00:15at number two receiver.
00:17They drafted Antonio Williams.
00:19The year before, they drafted Jalen Lane, fourth rounder.
00:21Drafted McCaffrey in the third round before that.
00:24But nobody feels like there's a good number two to go alongside Terry McConaughey.
00:31I do think Williams could be that guy eventually.
00:34I do think he could be eventually.
00:36Maybe not this year, but I do think eventually.
00:38Could be.
00:39I think he could be.
00:39I'm with you.
00:40This from Commander's Wire.
00:44And I don't think we've brought up this name,
00:47but ESPN's Dan Graziano has another option for the Washington Commanders.
00:53Now, this would be a trade option.
00:56He's in the final year of his contract.
00:59Any interest in the Patriots wide receiver, Kayshaun Boutte?
01:03I don't have a big file on him, to be honest with you.
01:05I think it's Boutte, but he had some moments last season specifically.
01:11I'll have to pull up his numbers.
01:12He had six touchdowns.
01:13Yeah.
01:14And he averaged almost 17 yards a catch, which is good.
01:16Yeah, because he's a good guy.
01:18And, of course, they brought in two receivers.
01:21They traded for AJ, and they signed Dobbs.
01:24So, I guess he's kind of one of those guys he'd be looking to get rid of if you're New
01:29England.
01:30I mean, he's still only 23 years old.
01:31He's young.
01:32There's no evidence he's on the trading block.
01:34Yeah.
01:35It's just some informed speculation.
01:38Yeah.
01:39Yeah.
01:40Yeah, I'm just looking at possible landing spots if there was a deal.
01:45And they have the Raiders one, but the Commanders two.
01:47Yeah.
01:48Just because, you know, Commanders are rumored to be interested in IU.
01:52Don't know if that's true or not, but they're looking to upgrade that number two spot.
01:56He played in 14 games last year, started 10.
01:59Now, he only caught 33 balls, but he was super productive.
02:0233 balls for 551 yards, almost 17 yards a catch, six touchdowns.
02:09I mean, you wouldn't turn that down.
02:12Now, what would you have to give up?
02:14What do I have to give up?
02:15Oh, I wouldn't think it would be a lot.
02:17He was a former sixth-round pick.
02:20I don't know.
02:21Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine giving up the time.
02:22That's pretty darn good production if he presumably came in.
02:27Now, are you suggesting he would be their number two?
02:29He would step in immediately and be their number two?
02:31I would think he would fight for it.
02:34Fight for it, but he would have to then put up bigger numbers than he has so far.
02:40Sure.
02:40It would be a projection.
02:41I mean, right now.
02:42It would be a projection.
02:43They say, you know, and this is OTAs.
02:47Terry's the number one.
02:49They've had Traylon Burks, McCaffrey, and Deami Brown taking first-team reps.
02:54Right.
02:55And Antonio Williams.
02:56He also has something in common with one Jason Bishop.
02:59He placed nearly 9,000 wagers while underage.
03:03It's had like a gambling issue.
03:06Ooh.
03:06Well, that surfaced in college or something?
03:10While he was in college, yeah.
03:11Yeah, but the talent is there.
03:14He was an absolute five-star recruit coming out of high school.
03:17I remember he was highly regarded.
03:18He was like one of the top two or three wide receivers in his class.
03:20Yeah.
03:21And he had a very, very good year, I believe, early on.
03:24There was a ton of buzz about him, and then it kind of fell off.
03:26That's why he just never, at LSU, never evolved into that stud receiver.
03:31Yeah.
03:31But he has shown flashes of it, for sure, in the NFL.
03:35He's definitely shown flashes.
03:36But with the addition of Brown and Dobbs and their draft pick into Kyle Williams last year.
03:41Become expendable.
03:42Yeah.
03:42They may not need him.
03:44His first year at LSU, he had 735 yards and five touchdowns, 16 yards per catch.
03:49You know, it's pretty darn good for a freshman.
03:52But then it kind of leveled off.
03:55Don't you think it'll be telling if they end up passing on all these guys?
03:58Brandon Ayuk, Stefan Diggs.
04:00Don't bring back Debo.
04:02They don't make a trade for K-Shomby.
04:04Uh-huh.
04:05Wouldn't that be telling that they really love what they have?
04:07Of course.
04:08And vice versa.
04:09In my mind, if they do go get Brandon Ayuk, then they're telling you, hey, we realize Antonio
04:14Williams is like a No. 3 guy down the road.
04:17He's a rookie.
04:19Luke, nice guy.
04:21Special teamer.
04:23Maybe.
04:24A return guy.
04:25Maybe.
04:25Or you just say, hey, we just want somebody more proven.
04:28This is a very pivotal year.
04:29We just want somebody more proven.
04:30It doesn't mean that we think Antonio Williams is forever a No. 3.
04:34But I would think that if they really wanted another guy, if they weren't happy with the
04:40room currently, they would have already gotten somebody.
04:44I don't know why they would be waiting.
04:47I kind of think that, too.
04:48Unless they're going to wait until camp starts and to see how these guys are going at it against
04:52the seven and live drills.
04:54Part of the two is what J.P.
04:55Finley said.
04:56I think it was on Thursday or Friday.
04:57A lot of these veteran guys, they don't want to be bothered with the OTAs, the non-mandatory
05:04minicamps.
05:05Right.
05:05They want to let all that kind of run its course.
05:07Yep.
05:07And then just sign around training camp.
05:09So they just don't have to come to these practices and jerseys and no pads and basically
05:15waste everybody's time.
05:17And maybe that's what's going to happen.
05:18So maybe in about a month, you're going to see guys like Debo, Diggs, Keenan Allen.
05:24Land on some teams.
05:25These guys, they're going to start getting signed.
05:27Yeah.
05:27You would think.
05:29Well, but eventually, they're going to.
05:30The commander's going to slide in.
05:31If they felt like it was an absolute gaping hole, they would have addressed it.
05:36Oh, they don't feel it's a huge priority.
05:38Yeah.
05:38Otherwise, one of those guys would be on the roster already.
05:40Yeah.
05:41Yeah.
05:421-800-636-1067.
