00:00Santos screens for Curry.
00:02Curry guarded by Dunn.
00:05Bounce pass to Horford, hand back to Curry.
00:07Back to Horford, pick and pop three.
00:09It's up and good.
00:10Oh, they orchestrated that well.
00:12Santos dribbles right side, gets downhill on guard.
00:15Euro steps out to Horford.
00:17It's a three, it's money!
00:19And it cuts the Clipper lead in half.
00:22It worked out for the Warriors thanks to Guy Santos
00:26with his fourth assist.
00:27Santos on the right wing.
00:29Dribbles middle, back to Horford.
00:31Fires another three, and he'll get it.
00:33Three ball, right corner, pocket.
00:36It's a two-point game with 3.50 left.
00:39The Warriors have not led since the second quarter.
00:43Horford for three, and Golden State takes the lead!
00:49117-115.
00:51Last time they led it was 35-34.
00:54Two minutes to go.
00:56What's up, Bay Area?
00:57It's Al Horford from the Golden State Warriors.
00:59You're listening to Willard and Dibbs on 95.7 The Game.
01:03Coming to you live from the Laughing Monk Studios.
01:07Al, you can stay.
01:09You know, there are certain moments, and sometimes it's sort of awkward or circumstantial,
01:16but I think there are certain moments where any free agent contract, no matter the size,
01:22on one night, the fan base goes, never mind, it's fine.
01:28Hi, this is Buddy Heald.
01:29How about Barry Zito?
01:30Good call.
01:31Yeah.
01:32Barry Zito, St. Louis.
01:34Never mind.
01:35Forget everything we said.
01:36I know that was five years, and four and a half of it was just a wreck.
01:40Seven years, I think.
01:41Was it seven?
01:42Seven years, 126.
01:43Whatever.
01:44Like...
01:45My old radio partner made a whole long run out of that.
01:48A hundred and twenty-six million.
01:50Yeah.
01:51Yeah.
01:51Yeah.
01:52But that was like, not that anybody was coming down Al's throat or anything like that,
01:57but last night, it was like, never mind.
01:59It doesn't matter if he's 40.
02:02It doesn't matter if he can only play half the games.
02:04The contract was worth it just for the fourth quarter last night.
02:09That's it.
02:11That's all we needed.
02:12You know what I mean?
02:13And if you can do that in big moments, yeah, come back next year.
02:19Sure.
02:20Why not?
02:20Sure.
02:21We'll just dust you off in April in the fourth quarter of whatever game matters.
02:26Steve Kerr with some great post-game comments,
02:28and like you, after that game, I was so jacked up.
02:31There was no sleeping, so I was like scrolling socials, post-game,
02:37watching the Amazon Prime, and then switching over to NBC Sports Bay Area
02:40and just trying to get all the content, and Steve even said, he's like,
02:44yeah, you know, Al was, he was having a tough night,
02:46and that's what you do when you're a champion.
02:48You get called upon again, and you go in there,
02:51and you're able to just block out everything that's already happened,
02:55and Al was a minus 21 through three quarters.
02:58He was patently bad, and that's when my tweet lived,
03:02and I stand behind my tweet, and then in the fourth quarter,
03:05he goes four for four from three, 12 points.
03:09He's a plus 14 in six minutes?
03:11Are you kidding me?
03:13And he won't be remembered as the, quote, hero,
03:16but there were many heroes in that one.
03:19There were many.
03:19There were many.
03:20There were quarter heroes, you know?
03:21Yeah, yeah, 43 points they scored in the fourth quarter.
03:23Incredible.
03:2415 of 20 from the floor.
03:28And I'm trying to remember the five shots they missed,
03:31and.
03:33Oh, God.
03:34Steph missed two.
03:35Steph missed a long three right before the great one that he,
03:37the one that you remember where he ended up in the seats?
03:39Yep.
03:40Right before that, he hit the front rim, and it was a bong.
03:44Like, it was, yeah, it was kind of an ugly brick, actually.
03:47And he had a layup where he got patently mauled, no call,
03:51and he wound up arms akimbo on the baseline.
03:54Man, there were a lot of palms up last night from everybody.
03:57Chris Stapps missed, I think he missed a three in that fourth quarter.
04:02He did.
04:03He did.
04:03He did.
04:04Yep, I remember that now.
04:05And Pods, he missed a three as well.
04:07It was 0 for 1 from three.
04:09That might be the one that drew no iron.
04:11And I was starting to get a little bit agitated on Twitter.
04:14Somebody said, oh, that's a clank.
04:16And I said, it's not a clank if it doesn't hit the rim, guy.
04:20My dude.
04:21What a great comeback.
04:21More of a thud.
04:23Let's be accurate.
04:25It was a thud.
04:26It was a whiff.
04:27Not a clank.
04:27It was a whiff.
04:28Five missed shots in 12 minutes.
04:31Oh.
04:3243 points.
04:33And they only turned it over three times.
04:35Three of the 20.
04:37Dude.
04:38That's the other thing.
04:39They played like crap for three quarters, I thought.
04:41Oh, it was amazing they're still in the game because they played very poor basketball.
04:45And there were some good things tucked in there.
04:47Sure, some big shot making.
04:49But they were sloppy.
04:50Yeah.
04:51They were very, very sloppy.
04:53Decision making was not great.
04:55But we'll get to all that.
04:57Here's the money shot from Steve Kerr last night after the game.
05:02It was just a display of, just a beautiful display of competitive will.
05:08And this is why Steph came back.
05:11So, everybody out there who thought Steph should have taken the rest of the year off,
05:16this is what he does.
05:18This is who he is.
05:20If he can compete, he's going to compete.
05:22And it was just incredible to watch.
05:25I have decided that a Steve Kerr tabletop is one of the great moments in all Bay Area sports history.
05:31Whenever he does it, something is said that will end up getting played on this station for a decade.
05:37And it's five taps, too.
05:38I don't know if that's his, he cannot be that guy.
05:40Was it five?
05:41That was five thumps, I believe.
05:42I caught four.
05:43Let's hear it again.
05:44It was just a display of, just a beautiful display of competitive will.
05:50And this is why Steph came back.
05:53So, everybody out there who thought Steph should have taken the rest of the year off,
05:59this is what he does.
06:00This is who he is.
06:02If he can compete, he's going to compete.
06:04And it was just incredible to watch.
06:07A little bit of Kendrick Lamar in that.
06:08Wop, wop, wop, wop, wop.
06:10Dan Dibley won.
06:11Mark Willard nothing.
06:12That was five.
06:12Five taps.
06:13Yeah.
06:13And it just immediately had me thinking, oh, okay, so you're not on social media?
06:19Sounds like you're a part of the echo chamber there, coach.
06:22Well, I would imagine in his position with all the questions that get asked and guys like you and me
06:28sitting here,
06:29you know, puppeting all of it to him all the time, he's got a good idea of what the hell's
06:33being said.
06:34Or he might have himself in burner.
06:38Or he and Kevin Durant are more alike than they think, maybe.
06:41Maybe he also has a burner.
06:43Yeah.
06:43And maybe it's just five table thumps is his burner account.
06:47I'll look to see if there's somebody on Twitter that has that handle.
06:50Those were very weighty table thumps.
06:54That's like a two or three finger because it wasn't a fist like the he cannot be that guy.
06:59But the pause.
07:00He cannot be that guy.
07:02Yeah.
07:02See, that was an anger.
07:03Right.
07:04There was a frustration in the pod's taps.
07:06Last night's taps were, they were a sniff.
07:11They were a guru sniff.
07:13Mm-hmm.
07:13Because there was a pause and then there was a top and it was a big, fat, stinking, I told
07:21you so.
07:22Oh, yeah.
07:23That's exactly what that was.
07:25I bet that felt better than you know what.
07:28I mean, better than a lot of things.
07:30Better than most, as the old expression goes.
07:33I love that.
07:34The tiger putt.
07:35Did anyone ever do the typewriter to you where they hold you down by your arms, they pin your legs,
07:40and they just thump on your chest?
07:41Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
07:42Oh, I don't.
07:43I don't believe that.
07:44You don't have older siblings, though.
07:45I do.
07:46I have one sister.
07:47There you go.
07:48Yeah.
07:48That doesn't count.
07:49She's a nice lady, I'm told.
07:50She knocked teeth out of my mouth one time.
07:52The typewriter is when you would take two or three fingers and just da-da-da-da-da-da and
07:56thump on somebody's chest.
07:58No, no, no, no.
07:58While I'm pinned to the ground.
07:59Yeah, no, we're not doing that.
08:00That's kind of what that reminded me of because that was a two or three finger just hard thump on
08:05the table, but you're right.
08:06That was a message of, yeah, this is why, like what he said before, what are we doing?
08:13The answer to all Warriors questions.
08:16And Killian.
08:17Last night.
08:17I like it.
08:18And by the way, with all absolute open arms and love, invitation to the one-third of you who on
08:29Twitter last night voted that you wanted them to lose.
08:32We had callers.
08:34Philmo Mike, where are you today?
08:36You have to call, Philmo.
08:38You have to.
08:39You wanted them to lose.
08:40And here's my guess.
08:41I don't know.
08:42I haven't talked to anybody who said that they were rooting for the Warriors to lose last night to get
08:46into the lottery.
08:47But my guess is, you told us at 4.30 that you wanted them to lose.
08:52No, you didn't.
08:53Not once that game started.
08:55Not once the fourth quarter started.
08:58Not once you started seeing those performances.
09:01Once you started seeing Al Horford threes go net, net, net, net.
09:07There's no way.
09:08If you've got a pulse and any love for this team at all, there's no way in hell you were
09:13rooting for those things to miss.
09:16I'd love to hear the story.
09:17I'd love to hear the story from anybody who last night was thinking it'd be better if they lost.
09:23Tell me what actually happened when the game started.
09:25What was going on in your heart, Ned?
09:27Well, I think when you're down 13, just under 10 to go, you're thinking, well, this isn't the worst thing
09:32if you're one of those people.
09:33And I was watching that game thinking, all right, enough of this.
09:37Like, all right, Clippers, go up by 22 so I can turn it off.
09:40Every time they'd go up by double digits, quietly the Warriors would cut it to four or three and then
09:45back to nine.
09:46And so you never felt like they were going to get that grasp.
09:49And then you talked about Al Horford.
09:51I'm looking at it now.
09:52His first three, under six to go.
09:54They're down seven.
09:55And still at that point, it's like, all right, not that this is a long shot, but they still hadn't
09:59yet gotten over the hump.
10:01And then Al hit not one, not two, not three, but four.
10:05And so, yeah, at that point, you're thinking, all right, this was great, but just make sure you lose on
10:10Friday.
10:11So if the Warriors fell four picks because of last night, fine by me.
10:19What if it's 14 picks?
10:22Well, we'll never know that.
10:23Right.
10:23That's not possible to know.
10:25It's not possible to find out unless you go out and lose on Friday.
10:28It's very, very unlikely.
10:29And the other scary part of it is what you did last night, Warriors.
10:32I know.
10:33What you did.
10:33It's okay.
10:34You just gave more power to Oklahoma City.
10:37You know, what are you going to do?
10:39It's like when Luke Skywalker chopped off Darth Vader.
10:44I think he chopped off his arm or no.
10:46When he got really mad at Darth and attacking away at somebody, he gave in to the dark side.
10:51He only gave more power to the dark side.
10:54That's what last night was.
10:56That's what the whole movie seven is about.
11:00Become wrath.
11:02Yep.
11:03Now you're going to jail.
11:04Pretty much.
11:05They're going to Phoenix.
11:08If it's the summertime, some believe it's the same thing.
11:11Anyway, okay, let's take some calls.
11:13Let's go to Julie and Marin.
11:14Hi, Julie.
11:14Thank you for calling.
11:15What's up?
11:17Hey, guys.
11:18You know, Dark Nation is loving this day.
11:20But I think mic drop, that game was for, by and for Steve, Draymond, and Steph.
11:28And it's their game.
11:29It's their legacy.
11:30It's what they do.
11:32And I wish them all the best.
11:34Julie, love it.
11:35Yeah, that's kind of what we were saying in the crossover.
11:38I felt like it was three dudes.
11:41And I don't feel like I'm, this isn't like a narcissistic thing, I don't think.
11:46But it was three dudes.
11:47This is very relatable to me.
11:49It's three dudes that looked themselves in the mirror and went, still got it.
11:54Still got it.
11:55You know, the Warriors went to a bar last night at age 42 and some young girl came over and
12:01hit on them.
12:02And you go home and you went a little bounce in your step.
12:04You're like, you know what?
12:05I still got it.
12:06I still got it.
12:07There's no way that they weren't questioning themselves at times.
12:11There's no way that Steph Curry wasn't sitting there with runner's knee wondering if he was
12:16going to get to play again this year.
12:17There's no way that Draymond Green doesn't know everything that everybody's been saying
12:22and how disappointing he's been and how they should have let him go two, three years ago.
12:27And he's just dragging this entire organization down.
12:32And don't get me started on Steve Kerr, who seemingly, and I know it's an echo chamber,
12:37but my God, on Twitter, 82% of you want him fired because he doesn't know what he's doing.
12:42And he doesn't develop young players.
12:44I mean, Guy has done what he's done on his own.
12:47On his own.
12:47I'm tired of you giving Steve Kerr all the credit.
12:50And Pods, too.
12:51They each went for 20.
12:52No, Pods at 17.
12:54He had 20.
12:55Both relatively young in the association and yet, you know, high leverage moments.
13:00Big, big number in the turnover category.
13:03I don't think either one of them were anywhere near perfect last night.
13:06No.
13:06But they had some really good moments, no doubt.
13:09Guy was a plus 16.
13:10He had six rebounds and five assists.
13:12To go with the five turnovers, not great.
13:14Brandon was a plus 10.
13:15They were the two leaders in that category.
13:17Right, seven rebounds and he had four turnovers.
13:19So nine of the 20 came from those two.
13:21And some of those were absolutely, like, shaky.
13:24Oh.
13:25Oh, the moment's too big.
13:26Absurd.
13:26Like, I thought, I think both Guy Santos and Brandon Podjemski can be summed up quickly with this.
13:34Absolutely sloppy and at times poor decision making.
13:38But also, both of them were not scared of the moment and both of them made big shots.
13:46And obviously, I think they were two of the, Brandon was the leader.
13:50Guy was, I think, fourth in minutes played.
13:54So they were out there a lot.
13:56They were, you know, this is a weird way to say it, but reliable at times, which is kind of
14:02not reliable.
14:03But you know what I mean?
14:03The antithesis of reliable.
14:04Yeah, but they were not overwhelmed by the moment.
14:08Yes, they made too many mistakes, as young players or want to do.
14:11But I thought both of them were more positive than negative.
14:14Yeah, and you played only eight guys and you were able to, you know, find a way to dig deep
14:18late in the game.
14:19And you mentioned Steph and Steve and Draymond.
14:22And I was struck just by the Al Horford part of it.
14:24And even Chris Tapps Porzingis, who played almost 28 minutes.
14:28And he was good when Al wasn't.
14:31And then Al was great when Chris Tapps was less involved in what was going on.
14:34But both of those guys, relative to their age and their experience, they're kind of playing for their NBA careers.
14:41If Al's going to play after this year, it might be one more year.
14:45It might be here.
14:46But his future is not a long-term, bright proposition.
14:50So to have that moment, four threes in the fourth quarter, it helps spur the comeback.
14:55And for Chris Tapps, 7-3, follow dunks, hang it on the rim, step it into threes.
15:01Best game as a warrior, for sure.
15:03I mean, he looked like the unicorn that we've all dreamed about.
15:06And again, it wasn't a full four quarters of it.
15:09But in the first half, what he did really kept him in it.
15:13You know what he looked like?
15:14Somebody you want on your team.
15:16Totally.
15:17That's what he looked like to me.
15:19Somebody you absolutely, unequivocally want on your team.
15:22And for me, for him, that's what last night was all about.
15:28Last night was about a lot of things, but different things for different players.
15:32Last night for Chris Tapps Porzingis, that was, to me, nail in the coffin on do you want him or
15:39not?
15:40The answer is yes.
15:42The answer is yeah, I think he wants to be here.
15:44There's an exchange between him and Anthony Slater last night that I thought was, like, told a huge story to
15:52where Anthony was kind of asking him about, do you feel like this is a preview of things that could
15:57come?
15:57And before the question was even over, Chris Tapps is just sitting there nodding at him.
16:01And then when he's done, he goes, that's a really good way to look at it.
16:04Like, Chris Tapps is clearly activated by the idea of playing here, and I think the franchise feels the same
16:10way.
16:10And I think part of it is Dr. Rick Celebrini, who has gotten him, you know, healthy enough to be
16:15able to be in these spots.
16:17And playing with Draymond, who's maybe the highest IQ player I've ever seen, and Steph Curry, who's a unicorn, a
16:23foot shorter, but a unicorn of his own right.
16:26And if you're Chris Tapps, you can just go out there and be the kind of player that you can
16:30be really good at, which is offensive rebound, shoot the three, defend the rim.
16:35He fits perfectly.
16:36Gary in the city is next.
16:38Hi, Gary.
16:38Thank you for calling.
16:41Yeah, a long-time listener, first-time caller.
16:44Thanks, Gary.
16:45I want to comment on what Steve Kerr said last night in the post-game interview.
16:51He was talking about how excited and exhilarated he was, and he says, everyone else may find that silly, but
17:02they just don't understand.
17:03And I just thought his comments captured last night's game, and I'm really proud of the Warriors.
17:12I'm happy for them.
17:13Gary, thanks.
17:14I think this is probably the comment that you're talking about.
17:18This is Steve Kerr after the game talking about what this is.
17:21For one night, we're us.
17:23We're champions again, you know, and I know that may sound crazy to everybody out there.
17:27It's a play-in game.
17:28I don't care.
17:29It's just absolutely beautiful to watch.
17:31For one night, we're us again.
17:34We're champions.
17:35Yeah, which I know, I know, I know.
17:38There's a very large segment of the audience that's going to be like, are you kidding me?
17:41You want a play-in game that doesn't even put you in the playoffs, in the NBA.
17:45But his response to that is, I don't care.
17:48I don't care if you feel that way.
17:49Like, I...
17:50Think about baseball, where you win, like, in the old days when it was a one-game wild card.
17:54You win the wild card game, and you rush the field, and you celebrate on the mound, and
17:59you put plastic over your lockers, and there's champagne and goggles and beer, because you
18:03advanced.
18:04And I do think that there's value in that.
18:06And even my beloved college basketball, when you win the West Regional to go to the Final
18:11Four, you celebrate.
18:12You cut down the nets.
18:14I know.
18:14Devil's advocate for a minute.
18:15The examples you just gave are both examples of teams that are already in the quote-unquote
18:21postseason.
18:22The Warriors aren't even technically in the postseason yet.
18:25They haven't even qualified for the playoffs.
18:26Right.
18:27But I know they had to do last night in order to have a shot.
18:30Now they've got an actual shot to qualify for the playoffs.
18:33I thought, like, rather than even thinking about it in his word of champions, I loved
18:40the first sentence.
18:40For one night, we were us.
18:43I thought that's what last night was about.
18:46Last night is about the Golden State Warriors who've worked for two months to get their roster
18:52back to a point where it was an actual NBA roster.
18:54That's why I've had such a hard time with all of the opinions about what the Warriors have
19:00looked like for the last two months with LJ Cryer and Maliby Leones running around out
19:04there.
19:05Nothing against those guys.
19:06But what are we talking about here?
19:08Who are you assessing?
19:09What is it exactly you think that is?
19:11That's not the Warriors.
19:12Warriors, that's guys trying to make the Warriors or just the league and their fill-ins and they
19:19played hard and that's great.
19:21Like, that's appreciated.
19:23But that wasn't a group that was going to do anything in the NBA.
19:26But we all knew if they were blessed with health for a minute, there is still an NBA roster
19:31in there.
19:32And last night it showed up and it won on the road.
19:35And I think that's what Steve was saying.
19:36I also think that the reaction was what it was because they were down 13 with under 10
19:42to go.
19:43If you went out there and you boat raced or motorboated, as Lowe Neal would always say,
19:47if you boated the Clippers and you won 122 to 94, I don't think that the reaction would
19:53have been as exuberant or as passionate.
19:56I think that the passion came from the way it went.
19:59You were down 13 and Al Horford came in and knocked down four.
20:04Steph hit another one of his.
20:05It was unbelievable.
20:05I don't believe it.
20:06Threes.
20:07Draymond locked down a surefire top 40 all-time player.
20:12I mean, locked him down.
20:14The way that all went.
20:15Draymond showing DPOY stuff.
20:18Steph playing the hero.
20:19Horford, look at me.
20:20I'm still really good.
20:21I think those things is what led to the reaction as much as just the win.
20:25Yeah, you're probably right.
20:27Sean in Oakland is next.
20:29Hi, Sean.
20:30Thanks for calling.
20:32What's up?
20:34How you guys doing?
20:34Good.
20:35Yeah, man.
20:36Look, what I don't understand is why everybody acts like this is something new from Steph.
20:42If he's in the game, we always have a chance.
20:45And this time, everybody put all hands on deck from Draymond to finally Christmas without this
20:51so-called illness that he had back a few games and pods and everybody else.
20:58Man, everybody just put all hands on deck and let everybody know that it's like everybody's against us.
21:03That's showing what we got and what we still got.
21:05Like you said, looking in the mirror and say, I still got it.
21:07Took that wedding ring off, went to the club.
21:09And they're like, you know, women still like me here.
21:11You know what I'm saying?
21:12And I still got it.
21:13And then went back and be like, look, total Warrior fans, we still got it.
21:16So I'm still positive about them, especially against Phoenix.
21:20I can't wait to play against them to play against Dillon and them.
21:24It should be a hell of a game Friday, so I'm excited.
21:27Sean, thanks.
21:28Yeah, I don't think the Warriors are better than the Phoenix Suns.
21:31We'll get into this tomorrow.
21:32I do wonder how much the Warriors physically have left for that game.
21:36That's going to be my question.
21:38But the Suns have not been healthy for a little while either.
21:41Devin Booker has not looked like himself for weeks, so we'll see.
21:45Like I said, we've got tomorrow to talk about tomorrow.
21:47I don't think anybody is acting like this is new from Steph.
21:51I think people were wondering if they were ever going to get to see it again.
21:55That's why there's such exhilaration around it.
21:58Right, and also there is going to be a time where he's not going to be able to summon it.
22:02Maybe it's not until he retires, but there's going to be an end date to this,
22:07and there's an end date to everything.
22:08And he gets to be 38.
22:10He's got runner's knee.
22:11He misses two months, and you're thinking,
22:14okay, you're down 13 against the Clippers.
22:16Maybe this is going to be the end of this year,
22:18and we're going to have to regroup because what we're being told is that
22:20next year is the year.
22:22And then he goes out, and he does what he did,
22:24and they come from behind.
22:25And so, yeah, it's not new, but I don't know.
22:28It still caught me a little bit off guard that they were able to come back from 13 down.
