00:00Hey, Stiney, he has something to say to you, though.
00:02Oh.
00:03Stop hating on the Royals.
00:05Oh, okay.
00:05I knew something like that was coming.
00:09In fact, Luca, the first five-year-old ever banned.
00:15Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:20I just noted the ridiculously exaggerated laugh from Evan on that one.
00:28Pretty funny.
00:28I didn't see it coming.
00:29It was pretty funny.
00:30Not like that.
00:31No, it was pretty funny.
00:32It's time for the crossover.
00:35Brought to you by Bay Alarm.
00:36Rest easy.
00:37We've got you covered.
00:38Bayalarm.com.
00:39Willard and Dibs in the house.
00:41I mean, a lot of good calls today.
00:43I didn't hear them all, but was it Devin?
00:46And then you mentioned that you were doing radio with Devin on the weekend,
00:50and you had to correct yourself to Devone.
00:52I thought that was funny, but Devin was amazing with his Game of Thrones homage.
00:56Is that what it was?
00:57Somebody said it was from 3,000 or 300?
01:01Perhaps.
01:01The whole idea of, like, second of his name, that is straight out of Game of Thrones.
01:05I don't know if it's the same thing in, like, 300 where, you know, you have the same name.
01:10And, like, Kenny Wardell Jr. out there, second of his name.
01:13Yeah.
01:13Because his dad is Kenny Wardell also.
01:15But I thought his call was great.
01:17I missed the five-year-old, which is awesome.
01:20A little drive-by on Stiney.
01:21You know?
01:22I guess they're generation beta if you're five years old.
01:26Oh, generation band is what he is.
01:29Well, until next year when he starts to count as a six-plus in the overall demographics.
01:35But that's fine.
01:36Banaway.
01:37His dad was kind of feeding stuff to him.
01:40You could hear, you know, he's obviously a little nervous, but he called in.
01:43It was sounding good.
01:44And then right before that, you could hear him go,
01:47I'll say Stiney's a hater.
01:51And then he went for it.
01:53That's why I thought it was so funny.
01:55It's great.
01:55And I was trying to be able to laugh at yourself.
01:58Trying to tell my three-and-a-half-year-old today,
02:00I said, yeah, I got to go to work.
02:02I have to do a show.
02:03What's a show?
02:04I'm on the radio.
02:05What's radio?
02:06It's like, okay, you need to get with it.
02:08Tell your mom.
02:09Put dad on.
02:10Is your daughter doing upticks?
02:12You're making it sound like your daughter's doing upticks,
02:14which is concerning to me.
02:15Everything, every time you say something, it's either what or why.
02:19Well, sure.
02:20Without, like, internalizing the information.
02:22You got to be eternally curious.
02:24What's eternally curious?
02:26Yeah, so it's just, it's nonstop.
02:29Anyway.
02:31Some ball game last night.
02:32Not bad.
02:33Nice little game.
02:34This is one of those days I was driving back from some errands this morning,
02:38and there's a guy who lives around the corner from me who,
02:40he's a friend, but big sports fan.
02:44And so we drive by each other all the time,
02:47because he lives right down the street.
02:48And usually it's just like one of those waves, right, through the car window.
02:52And this time as I'm pulling up to go by him, the car slows down.
02:56And I immediately knew exactly, like, this was a roll down the window,
03:03just one sentence.
03:06Holy hell.
03:07Yeah.
03:07How about that?
03:08And then he was on his way off to take his kid to school.
03:11That was it.
03:12This was one of those days, though.
03:13It just, like, nothing needs to sort of be said sometimes,
03:17except for everything needs to be said.
03:19Yeah, and what I said on our group thread was simply, this is the good stuff.
03:25And if you think about life, and, you know, Stiney, you've lived a little longer than me,
03:28and me longer than Mark, and you're barely alive over there, you little zygote, Evan.
03:31But there are things already in your life you could look back on and say,
03:36that was about as good as it gets, whether it's you pitching a great game at St. Mary's High
03:41or, you know, AA in Walla Walla or a second or third date, whatever it is,
03:47there are moments in your life where you can look back and say, that was awesome.
03:51That's the good stuff.
03:52And as a sports fan, you look at that game last night, whatever,
03:56playing down 13 to the Clippers.
03:58That's the good stuff right there.
04:00That's why we all, you know, are such sports fans.
04:02You want to say it with me?
04:05I love the play-in.
04:06Thank God for the play-in.
04:07Oh, thank God.
04:07Thank God for the play-in.
04:10Last night, when I took to the two knees and did my evening prayers to the Big G, as I
04:15call them,
04:16Big God, I said, you know what, God, forget the health of my family.
04:19Forget the prosperity that I've been lucky enough to enjoy.
04:23Forget the 800 thread count sheet that I snuggle up with every night.
04:27I just want to thank you, God, for the play-in game, the play-in tournament.
04:31And you know what?
04:32We'll see you on Friday, Big G.
04:34You know what I had forgotten about?
04:36A lot.
04:37My blasphemy?
04:39I don't think there's any, I don't believe, I don't believe there is anything such as blasphemy.
04:45I don't believe in the concept now that you brought it up.
04:48No, I appreciate that, because I do it for the sake of just humor.
04:53And, you know, like, your God and my God and his God and Evan's God, if you all believe in
04:59God, they're probably different gods.
05:01There's not just all a singular God.
05:03Well, there was one God.
05:05Wow.
05:05There was one God last night, and he was wearing number 30.
05:08Well, there was God Sham God, who I think went to Providence.
05:11Yeah, he was great in college.
05:12He was great in college.
05:13Some people think blasphemous, though.
05:15I know that it, by the letter of the law, it's not just about religion.
05:19Like, if you said, you'd walk into a bar last night, and you're like, Steph Curry's overrated.
05:24Or they should trade him!
05:27That is blasphemous.
05:28I believe in over-the-top irreverence, as opposed to blasphemous.
05:35Okay.
05:37Okay, here's what I thought of, and I was trying to make this point for the last two months,
05:43and, you know, when we're talking about should Steph come back, should he not come back?
05:47And I finally remembered, 1986, Michael Jordan missed the entire season.
05:56Now, he was in his prime, or just approaching his prime.
05:59Missed the whole season, came back, played four games.
06:03He only played, like, 18 regular season games.
06:05They played the Celtics in a five-game series.
06:07They got swept, but that was the series where he had 49-63 in the first two games,
06:14and it, like, announced him on the stage that the league was about to become Michael Jordan.
06:23So it's like, that's what you would have given up the possibility to even see if Steph doesn't come back.
06:32And you remember that 40 years later.
06:34Absolutely.
06:36There you go.
06:37Yeah.
06:37I mean, and this is the other thing I was thinking.
06:39So Curry, since the 2022 title, now has three more things you stack on the reel.
06:47The 50-point game against the Kings, the Olympic gold, and now last night's game.
06:53So, like, these are all going to be shown 25 years from now when they're doing the stuff about how
07:01great he was,
07:02and it's going to come, like, after the titles.
07:05You know what I mean?
07:06Yeah.
07:06And the highlight reel now is no longer just a reel.
07:09It's going to have to be, like, coming up, the later five years, it's going to have to be a
07:13half an hour or an hour-long special.
07:15And when Steph eventually retires and comes back for the Chase Center statue, jersey, everything, rename the arena ceremony,
07:24it's going to probably be an hour-long pregame of just his highlights.
07:28Hour?
07:29I think there's got to be, you know what?
07:31Maybe it's a long time.
07:31You can start about 8 in the morning as far as I'm concerned.
07:34I think it's got to be a Steph Curry week.
07:36How about a year?
07:38I mean, like, we don't, this is just, there's never been anything like this, there never will be again, period.
07:45Actually, like, my play-in-game date last night, my wife, lovely Christy, she and I, this is one of
07:53the things about which we argue,
07:56because she very much sees sports through the eyes of Bill Walsh.
08:00That was her first team, her favorite team, the 49ers, and she subscribes to a year too early rather than
08:06a year too late.
08:07And there are no exceptions to that.
08:10And so she will just sit there and be like, I don't know why you guys get so emotional and
08:15whimsical about all of this.
08:17Like, if they're not going to win anymore, he should go somewhere else.
08:22And, like, heels dug in.
08:26You don't get it.
08:28You don't get it.
08:29This is different, period.
08:34Like, this is different.
08:35And this is, I mean, it's at the core of what so many of us have been saying all year.
08:40I don't care what's rational.
08:43I don't care about who's in the lottery.
08:46I don't care about DeBansa.
08:48I don't care.
08:50I care about this.
08:53This is, this, like what Dibbs just said.
08:56It's the good stuff.
08:57It's, it's proof that Curry's been talking about chasing meaningful basketball games.
09:04Any game that he plays in is a meaningful basketball game.
09:09Any game.
09:10Proof is last night.
09:12It's a 9-10 game.
09:14It is the most meaningless of the postseason basketball games.
09:18And everyone is sitting here today feeling completely fulfilled by what the Warriors just did.
09:24And what Curry did in the second half of that game.
09:27And so it's like, I, I hear all the arguments against it, but I didn't hear any of them last
09:34night.
09:35I didn't hear anybody saying, what are we doing?
09:37Why is he out there?
09:39Why are the Warriors trying to win?
09:40There was none of that last night.
09:42There was only jubilation and an understanding that the moment that guy takes the court, you might see something special.
09:49Yeah, I mean, Mark makes great point.
09:53And it's always going to be this way, though.
09:55The, the other side, if you're dug in, we'll say, guys, it was a play-in game.
10:01Yep.
10:01They will say, oh, so one of these every three months, that's what you want.
10:07Okay, that's great.
10:08You know what I mean?
10:08And I'm not here to say one's right and one's wrong because I've never seen a player like him out
10:15here in the Bay.
10:16I mean, he's just, he looked, he looked like a regular player for the first half last night.
10:23I think the closest comp for me is I'm just looking at Jerry Rice's numbers and Bill Walsh wasn't the
10:27one to say sayonara because it was the year 2000 and he was 38.
10:32So he goes to the Raiders and he goes 83 catches, 92 and 63 as a 39, 40 and a
10:3941 year old, including a trip to the Super Bowl in 2002.
10:42So it's not always right to say a year too early as opposed to a year too late.
10:48I'm not saying that Steph's going to get them to the NBA Finals when he's 40.
10:52He might, but just because he's 38 now doesn't mean he can't still be great at 41, 42.
10:58You're listening to 95.7 The Game, KGMZ FM and HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station.
11:04Always live on the free Odyssey app and now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
11:09Can we move back for a second?
11:10And I just want to ask a question in the room because you called it jubilation and caught up in
11:16all of that.
11:17Did we ever get any kind of information or an answer as to why he went to the locker room?
11:22Someone said it was twice.
11:24I thought it was just in the first half.
11:25I only saw the one.
11:26Yeah.
11:27But, you know, we were just watching on TV, so we're at the whim of whatever they show us.
11:31I thought it was only once, but how amazing.
11:35That might be one of the best things you could say.
11:37Your second half was so good that we forgot to even ask you what was wrong in the first.
11:42That's fair.
11:42Fair point.
11:43I mean, I don't think that there are porta-potties courtside.
11:47I'm just saying.
11:48You put a towel on the head if you just need to go potty.
11:50It depends on if you're sweating.
11:52You've seen me a couple times late in our show where I go and talk back to Granny and say,
11:57Granny, I'm going to need to bow out here about five minutes early.
12:00It's getting a little bit dicey here and stuff.
12:02And so, yeah.
12:03But to your point, I think there are performances that sort of make you forget about, like,
12:09the double bang gang.
12:11Yep.
12:12Curry rolled his ankle in that game.
12:14Curry got landed on, I think, on a drive, got hurt, and stayed in the game.
12:20But this is something that gets lost over the course of the game because of the finish
12:24and because of the outcome, because of how great he was as a whole.
12:27So I think you're completely right.
12:28When people think about this game or, you know, if they do down the line,
12:34it's just going to be an afterthought because of how superhuman he was after.
12:37Well, I think this is probably something that we address as a group tomorrow more than today
12:41because today is just too great.
12:43Yeah.
12:44But I was listening.
12:44Steiner, you were talking earlier about, like, what's left for tomorrow?
12:48No.
12:49So Steph left.
12:51Draymond, late in the game, had a non-contact knee tweak.
12:55You said you saw Kristaps look like he was limping.
12:58No, it was reported after the game he was limping towards the locker room.
13:02And maybe they all just, you know, rub dirt on it and be the champions they are
13:06and they do this again tomorrow night.
13:08But, yeah, that, like, that's a quick turnaround.
13:11And you were also talking about how much sort of relief and joy they showed,
13:18which is usually reserved for we did it.
13:21Yeah.
13:22And now we go on to the next round, and in a way they did,
13:26but they just have to go do it again.
13:29Yeah.
13:29I don't know what they're going to have left,
13:31although at least they're feeling good about themselves
13:33and the Suns feel awful about themselves.
13:35I mean, the other thing to me is, like, there's something human,
13:41real human about their four-time champions.
13:44And I don't know, I didn't say it was a good thing or a bad thing.
13:47They just want to play in-game to play another.
13:52Steph Curry and Draymond Green, they want to play in-game
13:56to play another play-in-game, and they're clearly unbelievably gleeful.
14:04It clearly shows, like, they just want to play.
14:07Like, it isn't, I don't think, Steph, I got to get five here.
14:12It's just to elongate that kind of stuff.
14:17Petty King, I think it's because they heard everything.
14:21They heard everything.
14:22They heard everything all year long.
14:24And last night was a big, humongous STFU to everybody who said otherwise.
14:33And if, you know, make it, okay, now you're the ninth seed or whatever,
14:36maybe you'll be the eighth seed.
14:37If that's not enough for, I don't think it was, like, I guess that's my,
14:41I don't think it was about that.
14:42No, I think it was about, like, four old guys going to a gym to play pickup,
14:47and there's just a young team there, and nobody's giving you a shot,
14:51and they're like, you know, we still got a little sum in the tank,
14:54and we know how to play.
14:56And you just beat them, and now it's your court.
14:59And here come the Suns.
15:01You beat them down 13.
15:02And you mentioned this earlier when Matt Theron hits the two free throws.
15:06Under 10, you're down 98-85.
15:08And I don't know how many different times I was watching that game thinking,
15:11well, I don't like it.
15:13I'm not liking this.
15:14Yeah.
15:14Because they'd go from down 11 to down four.
15:17Like five different times.
15:18Okay, you cut it to two, and then you're down nine again.
15:20And down to five, up to 11.
15:22They never were able to get that control.
15:25And then here comes old man Al, who was dreadful.
15:29And Steve said basically as much in the postgame.
15:32And all of a sudden now, you're going to knock down four threes,
15:35and Steph's throwing it in from nowhere.
15:37And Draymond Green looked like, was it Bob McAdoo,
15:40the famous sweater, Steining in the NBA?
15:43Is he one of the all-time great sweaters?
15:45Oh, yeah.
15:46Moses Malone.
15:47Moses Malone.
15:48Draymond Green was working harder than he has in maybe 10 years on defense.
15:53It looked like 2017 Draymond, the way he was locking down Kawhi.
15:58And then all of a sudden, you get that three, Steph, you get the lead.
16:01It's like, oh, my God, they might actually do this.
16:03So I think that's partly where their joy comes from.
16:06They were left for dead.
16:08That's just a great game.
16:09Yeah, and I don't necessarily watch it and say, like,
16:12I was thinking, Warriors are hanging around.
16:16Warriors are hanging around.
16:18And because it never got, you know, it never got over 10 or 11.
16:21And, I mean, look, look at the box score.
16:25Everybody who played for the Warriors played well or contributed positively.
16:30Every single player.
16:31Steining, you were talking, I'm sorry to bring this to the air,
16:34but apparently you're in a little bit of a slump in your golf game.
16:37Yes.
16:38But, man, let me tell you why this is relevant right now.
16:40That's what I think last night was all about.
16:43No, no, no, not your golf game.
16:45But I bet somewhere along the road here, I don't know,
16:48when was the last time you broke 80 or the last time you broke 85?
16:52It's been a little while.
16:53It's been a little while.
16:54Yeah.
16:54But you'll do it again.
16:56And there'll be the thought as you walk to your car, still got it.
17:01Yeah.
17:02Not as often.
17:03Right.
17:04But I still got it.
17:05That's a good analogy.
17:06I think that's what last night was.
17:08Yeah, that's a good analogy.
17:09You guys aren't going to do this for two months.
17:10I don't even know if you can do it tomorrow night.
17:12You couldn't even do it for four quarters.
17:14That's a good analogy.
17:15But for the fourth quarter, they got to tell the world, still got it.
17:19The only problem with that analogy is I'm not even a play-in team right now.
17:23I'm the Wizards.
17:24Well, it depends on how many tankers there are.
17:26I think that makes it even more relevant because you just went, yeah, I don't know.
17:30I'm sure there's a lot of that in that locker room.
17:33Totally.
17:33Like, we've done it.
17:35We think we can.
17:37But you don't really know until you actually go out there, roll the ball out, and play.
17:42Like, did Draymond Green go into that game thinking that he was going to shut Kawhi Leonard down?
17:49I'm sure he wanted to.
17:50He's done it in the past.
17:51But to do it again in that fashion, I didn't believe he could do it.
17:56I mean, he had him in jail for the entire four.
17:59If he didn't score a bucket, a little nothing bunny, at the end of the game, he has a goose
18:04egg in the fourth quarter.
18:06Kawhi Leonard.
18:07And this is where the pros get it.
18:09So, I think it was in the first quarter where Kawhi had the ball in the wing and Draymond was
18:14all over him.
18:16And Kawhi rose up and just made a bucket right on Draymond.
18:21Draymond was doing everything he could.
18:22And, like, if Kawhi does that, it doesn't matter who guards him.
18:30But you still have to do that every single time so that the odds are less that he's going to
18:38have a big game.
18:39But, like, he can make, like, Draymond knows that he's going to play a lot of great defense on Kawhi
18:46and probably with nothing to show for it, too.
18:49And you've got to play through that.
18:50Right. And also, I think that the Warriors did a very good job of not having it be just Draymond
18:55against Kawhi.
18:56They doubled him high a lot.
18:57They sent help early.
18:59They sent help late.
19:00And you mentioned the Brook Lopez three that he missed, which was late, late in the fourth quarter.
19:04The Warriors didn't mix up the coverages a lot.
19:07And then you think about the two plays Draymond made in the fourth quarter, the tip tip on the inbound,
19:12which is just elite defense to not only read it, but to tip it and to tip it to your
19:18guy.
19:18And then he gets on the floor and he comes up with another steal.
19:21So it was more than just, like, locking up Kawhi, who took two shots, by the way, in eight minutes.
19:26The claw.
19:27Only two shots.
19:28It was the other little things that the Warriors all did.
19:31He was giving up.
19:31There were a lot of possessions where Kawhi, he just passed out.
19:35He just passed the ball.
19:37He's like, there's nothing here for me.
19:38And that, I would love, everybody, if you can go watch a continuous feed of when Draymond makes the last
19:45steal,
19:45where he picks his pocket, which essentially ended the game.
19:49That also came, Draymond picked him up full court.
19:52The fact, like, there was the offensive end where Draymond is setting the screen for Steph.
19:58He hits the three.
19:59And then there's a timeout.
20:01But this is coming right on the heels of the steal.
20:05And then the pods play at the rim.
20:07And then he picks Kawhi up full court.
20:09The energy and the continuous motion to then end that with a picking of Kawhi Leonard's pocket,
20:17that was one of the more impressive defensive sort of series that I can remember seeing, ever.
20:24I wonder if they've already voted for, like, All-NBA and All-Defense and all that.
20:28Are the votes already in?
20:30It's so interesting you brought that up, because I'm not sure.
20:33In the past, it was all those votes were in by the end of the regular season.
20:38Gotcha.
20:38That's when you handed them in.
20:40This is also not the playoffs, though.
20:42Yeah.
20:42But.
20:42What is this?
20:44There was also.
20:45Cock-a-mean-ee.
20:45There was an appeal.
20:46But there was an appeal of the 65 games thing that has won.
20:50They got approved.
20:51So maybe they pushed it back.
20:53Maybe they pushed all the voting back.
20:55I don't know.
20:56And even if they didn't, like, even if they, this is almost like when a judge tells a jury,
21:02hey, strike that from the record.
21:05Disregardly.
21:05I already heard it.
21:07I can't hear that.
21:08It's like Reggie Bush's Heisman.
21:10It didn't count.
21:11I was there.
21:11I watched it.
21:12I watched him jump over people's heads.
21:14Like, how do you unsee that?
21:16Well, he also did it in his 35th minute, which is a big deal, because I just looked this up.
21:22He'd only played one game this season where he played 35 or more.
21:27That didn't go to overtime.
21:29Draymond?
21:29Draymond.
21:30He played one game of 35 minutes this year.
21:32What was his minute total last night?
21:3435.
21:35Like, he hadn't played.
21:36Steph played 36.
21:38On a minutes restriction.
21:40Yeah.
21:41So, for them to be at that level that late in the game, I mean, it really just comes down
21:49to them wanting to, I don't know, like, wanting it, yes, but also being able to summon it physically.
21:56It has me feeling a certain way about tomorrow, but it's also why you got to give him a ton
22:00of credit about last night.
22:02I also think, like, Kawhi is a great player, but I think, like, you can see some age there.
22:12And we see it a little with, like, where I think you can tell age in the NBA is when
22:18you
22:18get blitzed, an older player gets blitzed, and it just, they just got to react too quickly
22:25and they don't, and Kawhi used to never, like, get hung up up there on that high pick
22:33and roll, and he just, they just smothered Kawhi Leonard in a way, and, like, that never
22:39happens, but he just, he's still strong, but he just is not, like, not quite as quick.
22:46And then those, the other possessions you're talking about is, okay, so the ball's on the
22:51other side of the floor with 11 on the shot clock, and, nah, he's not really coming to
22:57get the ball.
22:58Content.
22:58You know, he's not really coming to get the ball.
23:00Well, he didn't really go over and take it from the guy, which is his prerogative if he
23:06wants to.
23:08He's almost like, still a great player, obviously.
23:10It's almost as if he felt beat, you know?
23:15Did you guys think that, uh, what they were saying, mainly Draymond, about Kawhi after
23:19the game, I'm sure it's genuine, I'm sure they do respect the hell out of him, um, were
23:25they also kind of, were they giving him a little wave?
23:29Like a pat on the head?
23:30Yeah.
23:31Hey, Kawhi, we love you, you know?
23:37I thought what Kawhi said about Draymond was the, you know, the biggest thing.
23:41If there's one way to never have Draymond guard you again, there's one way to do it.
23:46Yeah, I see where you're going.
23:47You're doing practice, but you want that guy standing around on your team in the fourth
23:52quarter?
23:53Yes, I do.
23:54Seven shots in the, in the second half, five turnovers.
23:58The average is 28 this season.
24:0028.
24:01We are expecting Guy Santos to give us a call, um, at some point, a little bit, uh, later
24:07on.
24:07Victory lap.
24:08We're expecting Guy Santos.
24:10For Stiney?
24:11No, for me.
24:12Why?
24:13Well, I said, I think we're going to get a Warriors player at some point today.
24:16Yes.
24:17Yeah.
24:17And I, I bet it's Guy Santos.
24:19It's only at about, it's about 86.3% chance.
24:23That's pretty good.
24:24But, you know, I mean, if Posty would have played a minute or two last night, you probably
24:28would have had Posty.
24:29It used to be a guaranteed Pods appearance, but, uh, unfortunately now the sea is angry
24:35when it comes to Podsy.
24:36Yeah.
24:36Let me tell you something about Santos.
24:38The good thing is, like, he is, he's going to be around for three more years and he's
24:42an upbeat, positive guy.
24:43He's a pretty cool guy.
24:44It's like they developed a young player or something.
24:47Nah.
24:47No, 95.7.
24:49Sorry.
24:49The game.
