00:00guys here's some uh nba breaking news actually uh according to sam yeah shams rania of espn
00:05the nba this just in the nba and nba nbpa have ruled in favor of the lakers luka donchich and
00:11the pistons kate cunningham in their um challenge for the 65 game award rule they make they will
00:17both be eligible for honors such as mvp and the all nba teams so they're eligible now and then
00:23that even if they don't either one of them don't win the mvp i know for the all nba they
00:27have
00:27contract incentives and that's big sure as far as their pocketbooks are concerned did they give a
00:31reason as to why uh did shams you know shams did not tweet anything out he just wrote that you
00:37know
00:37obviously kate had a collapsed lung luke had to uh leave the country to attend his the birth of his
00:43child um so those two they got it but minnesota's anthony edwards he also filed for a challenge and
00:49he was denied so i think probably obviously a case-by-case basis but i think i'm assuming they
00:54those are extraordinary uh circumstances so yeah i think they they look at legitimate injuries
01:00as opposed to load load management and take that into consideration so good for those guys
01:04that's great i like it that feels like a common sense type decision and yeah case by case i mean
01:10it's more work for the league to go through every case but uh all right before the break we mentioned
01:16yesterday was jackie robinson day and his impact on the game has been well documented uh what he went
01:22through the barriers that he broke the doors he opened up for other players and you asked a great
01:26question which player is responsible for the biggest change in sports over the last 25 years
01:33is this so this we're not necessarily doing it in a from a socially conscious way although that could
01:40be included but just in any way you said player are we expanding it beyond that or you just want
01:47to
01:47leave it a player i kind of want to leave it a player but i mean i'm curious to hear
01:51what you
01:51have to say after the player okay okay gotcha i wrote down a player but i also have a non
01:57-player
01:58that i think is responsible for a lot of positive change a ton of positive change but anyway uh do
02:06you
02:06have a player i do okay uh to me the player is it it's uh it's it's steph curry i
02:14mean what he has done
02:15with the three-point shot and when he first brought that up and people looking at this guy
02:20that's it's yolo it's right in that whole yolo era uh you only live once right and just launching
02:26his long shots like nobody's gonna make those and then you realize wait a minute not only is he making
02:30them he's making them at like a 45 percent clip like his initial three-point shooting percentage
02:38when he was the pioneer of doing that was through the roof yeah and it has changed everything not
02:48just the nba level but it's changed everything you can't watch a kid's game without somebody
02:52launching a 30-foot shot it's a trickle-up effect kids now do it high school that leads to high
02:58school
02:58kids shooting that way college kids shoot that way and it's not just the men they've gotten better at it
03:04caitlin clark you know made her bones by by launching these 35-foot shots when she was at
03:10iowa it's crazy and not doing it in the wnba it's his he has left an indelible mark on sports
03:18and
03:19particularly the nba and some would argue it wasn't a positive change some would some would argue that
03:25they don't like the three-point game i don't think well i mean i think it's each team should go
03:30about
03:30doing their own business and if you want to live with you know 30 if you think 36 percent is
03:35good
03:35enough to shoot from three where you're going to launch 50 of them a game okay go ahead and do
03:39that
03:39it's not what i want to watch but steph curry is a guy who i'm i'm launching these shots because
03:45i make
03:45them not because it's a strategy it's because i i knock him down at a high rate he's amazing yeah
03:52he
03:53really is if you were to pick a player that has an impact impacted their game in the last 25
03:59years
03:59and change things gator came up with steph curry i'm gonna i'm gonna hold on to my player and see
04:05if anybody matches it i did because i'm more interested i gotta tell you i went with a non-player
04:10i love most everything that rob manfred has done as commissioner of baseball
04:19i thought the one game wild card was stupid to have a baseball and they changed that and went to
04:25six teams in the american league and national league i think the pitch clock is one of the greatest
04:31things that has happened to a sport that makes baseball such a tighter package and much more
04:38watchable i think the abs system is the single best review system in all of sports it is clear cut
04:47it is definitive and it is quick as can be and there's other things that people you know don't
04:53like i i like banning the shift i like it i don't but i don't love it and i'm not
05:01i don't think
05:02everybody loves ghost runner in the in extra innings but i overall now this is what he's done so far
05:10he also might be about to oversee a one of the great work stoppages that everybody's pretty thing is going
05:16to be long and painful but it hasn't happened yet hasn't happened yet um but you know i was going
05:22to say the the big black mark on on his legacy is you know the last work stoppage that they
05:28had
05:28or going through it i i didn't like the negotiating process waiting to the 11th hour before you even
05:35started negotiating i hated that that pissed me off and i hope that they've learned from that or
05:42they hopefully start to negotiate sooner but the mlb players association have some has some issues
05:49right now as well with with uh the front office so we'll see where it goes but no it's you're
05:55right
05:55though all those moves that he's he's done the changes they've made they've been great for the game
06:00and and and i i was thinking about that the previous work stoppage i'm like yeah 11th hour but that's
06:05how
06:05everybody always does it except the nhl which broke the mold and signed a deal a year ahead of time
06:09which
06:10god bless them for that but uh who would you pick as a player and i went non-player so
06:16i broke the
06:16rules but i i just i thought rob manfred deserves some love in this in terms of people who have
06:23changed their games give him love while he can while he can well i can yeah before the clock expires
06:27and
06:27the cba hits who would you put at the top of the list of players who have changed the games
06:32in
06:33significant ways obviously yesterday being jackie robinson maybe nobody more significant than him
06:38and and the the you know being the trailblazer that he was but who would you pick 248-539-9797
06:45your phone calls and feedback coming up also just a reminder tiger baseball as of now we haven't
06:50kang there's no update on a delay or anything is there no as of right now i mean the tarp
06:54is on the
06:55field but they are scheduled to play at uh the normal time we'll see what happens well i'm gonna go
07:00look outside down here at uh hockey towel cafe and see if uh if indeed it's raining here in downtown
07:05detroit it's carson anderson 97 one
