00:00Retaining doctors in Malaysia's public healthcare system requires structural reforms, not appeals to nationalism, a former Malaysian Medical Association president
00:11says.
00:12Dr. Azizan Abdul Aziz said,
00:23In a statement, she said it is fundamentally about whether our systems, policies, and career services are not.
00:30structures are sufficiently robust, fair, and sustainable to retain this highly trained workforce.
00:36Azizan said the bigger concerns were the systemic weaknesses in the system, including uncertain contract pathways, inadequate and mismatched remuneration,
00:47lack of transparency in career progression, and workplace pressures affecting morale and well-being.
00:52She was responding to Public Services Director-General Wan Ahmad Dalan Abdul Aziz's suggestion that a stronger sense of nationalism
01:01could help curb the outflow of doctors from the public healthcare system.
