Lawmaker says constituents to continue protest unless 12% VAT is cut

Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste says that the protest of his constituents will continue until his demand of decreasing the value added tax from 12 percent to 10 percent is met through a vote at the House of Representatives. Leviste also called on the Commission on Appointments to delay the confirmation of acting officials, including Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, whom Leviste accused of blocking his push to decrease the VAT.

00:00When we schedule the vote for the VAT, we should be able to schedule the vote for the VAT.
00:12Do you think that you can push the vote for the VAT on the day to resume the session?
00:22I think, even before. It may be a special session for the Congress, but it will be the longest time
00:29for May 4.
00:32I would like to give you this context.
00:34No September, I was going to have it in the 10th hearing of the Ways and Means Committee.
00:39I was going to have the vote for this meeting.
00:43At the meeting of the committee, we will wait for the analysis of the Department of Finance.
00:50They gave their position paper.
00:52But even if they told us, we didn't have the vote for the Ejecutivo.
01:01We didn't have the vote for the Ejecutivo.
01:02So, I'm just following our discussions on the record with Chairman Kimbo.
01:08What do you want to vote for the VAT?
01:10They also support the VAT.
01:13So, in fairness to those who support the VAT,
01:18the answer is that the VAT will help the VAT.
01:22But for all of the people who have asked,
01:24what do you want to vote for the VAT?
01:26What do you want to vote for the VAT?
01:28Because...
01:28Alarm nyo,
01:29hindi pa kinumpirma ng Commission on Appointments.
01:33Sa ES,
01:49hindi kinumpirma,
01:50ang nagde-decesyon,
01:52at kaming mga halal dito
01:53ay naghihiring-hiring lang
01:55para ipakita ng may ginagawa
01:56nang wala naman nangyayari.
02:26Terima kasih telah menonton!
