00:02President Trump and Pope Leo are increasingly at odds over the war with Iran.
00:07Trump blasting the first American pope Sunday night, saying he's not doing a very good job,
00:13and that he's a very liberal person, accusing him of catering to the radical left.
00:18Trump's comments come after last week.
00:21The pope criticized Trump's public threats to wipe out an entire civilization in Iran.
00:26The pontiff urged people to contact their Congress members and object.
00:31Leo has been critical of the war in Iran since it began, and over the weekend,
00:36he reiterated his calls for peace at a special prayer vigil at St. Peter's Basilica,
00:41saying the, quote, madness needs to end.
00:44President Trump firing back in a lengthy social media post,
00:48then doubling down when asked about it by reporters.
00:51We don't like a pope that's going to say that it's OK to have a nuclear weapon.
00:57We don't want a pope that says crime is OK in our cities.
01:01I don't like it. I'm not a big fan of Pope Leo.
01:03He's a very liberal person, and he's a man that doesn't believe in stopping crime.
01:09He's a man that doesn't think that we should be toying with a country that wants a nuclear weapon
01:17so they can blow up the world. I'm not a fan of Pope Leo.
01:21In his post, Trump also alleged that Leo was only chosen as pope because he was an American,
01:27and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump.
01:32Pope Leo responding this morning, telling reporters on the papal plane he has no fear of the Trump administration.
01:38I don't want to get into a debate with him.
01:42I don't think that the message of the gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people
01:47are doing.
01:48And I will continue to speak out loud against war, looking to promote peace,
01:53promoting dialogue and multilateral relationships among the states,
01:58to look for just solutions to problems.
02:00Too many people are suffering in the world today.
02:02Too many innocent people are being killed.
02:04And I think someone has to stand up and say there's a better way to do this.
02:08Today, the pope is on his way to Africa for an 11-day tour of four countries.
