00:00:06Este programa documenta las investigaciones actuales de homicidio.
00:00:09Los asuntos criminales se han cortado o reducido,
00:00:12y todos los suspecciones se han presionado de inocentes,
00:00:14unless provenientes culpables.
00:00:30Los asuntos criminales se han cortado.
00:00:46All right.
00:00:47¿Do you see or hear anything else?
00:00:50No, just a bullet.
00:00:52OK.
00:00:52All right.
00:00:53My partner is getting help on the way.
00:00:55OK, thank you.
00:01:01Accident aside.
00:01:06Okay.
00:01:07¿Para dónde se fueron?
00:01:12Ok.
00:01:14Es going to be a robbery.
00:01:16They just fled, so they're probably nearby.
00:01:19Approximately five black males, they fled towards Facet.
00:01:23Los victims actually changed after the suspect
00:01:26and told them to run in over Facet.
00:01:31All right, buddy.
00:01:32Let's see what we can do.
00:01:35Call Buddy.
00:01:37It's your time to shine there, Turbo.
00:01:39Come on.
00:01:51There's money.
00:01:52They jumped this.
00:01:53I bet money.
00:01:55Yeah, look.
00:01:57Yeah, that just broke.
00:02:00Hey, Estrada, there is brand new broken wood off this fence
00:02:05behind the apartment.
00:02:10They said it looked like a freshly broken fence.
00:02:13We canvassed all these buildings for cameras over here.
00:02:15Uh, this one has.
00:02:24It was four to five black males wearing all black.
00:02:28As they were running, they shot about five, six rounds towards the victims.
00:02:32No se han quedado, ¿no?
00:02:35No.
00:02:35¿Tró el bolso de una casa?
00:02:37Son por mi casa.
00:02:41¡Dale!
00:02:42¡Dale, sí, ¿de acuerdo?
00:02:46¿Dale?
00:02:49¿Qué?
00:02:51Voy a ir a en cuenta de mi apartment
00:02:53para que suerte no era de la apartment.
00:02:58¡Oh !
00:03:28¡Policia!
00:03:33¡Policia!
00:03:37All I hear is the shower.
00:03:46You good?
00:03:54You shot?
00:03:55Yeah, right.
00:03:57Go run and get EMS.
00:04:00203 dispatch, it might be 10-7.
00:04:04He's gone.
00:04:14For homicide detectives, their chance of solving a murder is cut in half if they don't get a lead within
00:04:22the first 48 hours.
00:04:42So about approximately an hour ago, we had an armed robbery in which the victims were shot at following the
00:04:49robbery.
00:04:50And then while working that armed robbery, they observe a bullet hole to an unrelated trailer, make contact, and they
00:04:57discover the deceased in the back bedroom.
00:05:01It happened here, in front of 12.
00:05:06So here, you can see, is where we have the entry of the bullet.
00:05:12And then on the other side of this wall is our decedent.
00:05:14And his name is Erberto Martinez Martinez.
00:05:2437-year-old Erberto Martinez Martinez came to the U.S. 20 years ago from Oaxaca, Mexico in search of
00:05:31better job opportunities.
00:05:33He worked construction and was packed to move to a new job site in North Carolina in the morning.
00:05:38He leaves behind a large family, including his brother and brother's family in North Charleston, and his parents and three
00:05:46other siblings back home in Mexico.
00:05:51The bullet struck him in his facial area while he was sleeping.
00:05:56The shot killed Erberto instantly.
00:05:59Where you see the crowd of people is the general area in which the armed robbery victims were when the
00:06:04shooting took place.
00:06:05They were at the back corner of their trailer when approximately four, what they described as black males, approached them,
00:06:12demanded their items.
00:06:14And as they were fleeing, the suspect shot.
00:06:17There were several shell casings out here that was collected by patrol.
00:06:22The four casings were covered, a raw 9mm.
00:06:28Where the armed robbery happened, a trailer has video cameras.
00:06:33Bravo is helping download the video.
00:06:36We need to do interviews with the victims.
00:06:38Once the video is downloaded, I'm gonna have him take my victims to City Hall.
00:06:43And Bravo is gonna sit down with each one, and we're gonna have one translation of what happened.
00:06:51Bush and Malone are there, and I let them know you're coming with three.
00:06:54Thank you, Bravo.
00:07:03Straight bullets are always rough.
00:07:05Hopefully they got a good description in clothing, or there's something distinct on one of the individuals that committed the
00:07:11robbery that we can identify.
00:07:13And hopefully with that, we'll be able to develop a suspect.
00:07:25So, run me through, what happened?
00:07:28Well, we were taking a beer.
00:07:34So, they said they were hanging out, drinking beer.
00:07:37There were four that came somewhere from, like, behind the trailer.
00:07:40So, they're asking, like, where's the mota?
00:07:45Which means marijuana?
00:07:46Yeah.
00:07:52Can you describe, like, what they were wearing, what they look like?
00:07:55No, solo, solo lo miré la cara.
00:07:59He says the man who pointed the gun at him wore a black mask, and two others also wore masks.
00:08:05Two black black masks, one had what?
00:08:07And then one didn't have one at all.
00:08:09Mm-hmm.
00:08:10He said the one that came off to him with the gun, he was only able to see, kind of,
00:08:14like, eyes.
00:08:15And he had the mask with the hoodie on.
00:08:17Oh, hi.
00:08:40No.
00:08:42He pulled the trigger, and did you hear it go?
00:08:45Mm-hmm.
00:08:46And nothing?
00:08:47Si.
00:08:47And then he starts going through your pockets?
00:08:49Si.
00:08:51He says the suspect stole his keys, phone, and wallet, and then moved on to his friend.
00:08:57So the guy with the black mask, after he took his phone and everything, the black mask, went to start
00:09:03searching the other victim, victim number two.
00:09:05So, but was it the same one that was kind of doing all the robbing?
00:09:15Yes.
00:09:22Were they, like, trying to aim at you, or were they, like, aiming at the house?
00:09:25Yes.
00:09:28Now, did you see which direction they ran to after they fired?
00:09:33Yes.
00:09:34He's there in the ask of the mayor room.
00:09:37He says he and his friends ran after the men, but lost them behind some apartments.
00:09:41So, when they turned left onto Facet, that's when you lost sight of them?
00:09:47Si.
00:09:47Si.
00:09:49Okay.
00:09:50All right.
00:10:01Hold on.
00:10:03I'm Detective Bush.
00:10:04Detectives speak with the two other robbery victims.
00:10:07Can you describe them?
00:10:23Any good descriptions on any of the suspects?
00:10:26Nope.
00:10:30This is gonna be a really tough case.
00:10:32Hopefully, we'll get some good video.
00:10:34It'd be great to get a car coming or going in the area.
00:10:42All right.
00:10:43Watch this.
00:10:44Detective Anthony Russ pulls up the surveillance video gathered from the trailer park.
00:10:48So, you're gonna see the suspects walking up Stahl Road on crosses.
00:10:53And the four of them now are linked up.
00:10:55So, then we cut to this video, where they're now walking into the mobile home park.
00:11:13Approach the victims from the rear of the trailers.
00:11:18You don't really get to see a whole lot.
00:11:20It's dark and from a distance.
00:11:23You can see they're robbing them.
00:11:25That gun.
00:11:30Then they run beside this mobile home that actually has the cameras.
00:11:36And this is the good one.
00:11:40They're running and then shooting back.
00:11:54They're running and then shooting back.
00:11:57On 35.
00:11:58Are you just looking at me?
00:12:02Look at me.
00:12:03I'm gonna make your bomb so high, your head will spontaneously combust.
00:12:09You're not listening, so this is great.
00:12:11You're as great as the trooper is.
00:12:14Court Cam.
00:12:15New episodes.
00:12:16Watch now.
00:12:17Part of Crime and Investigation.
00:12:18Only on A&E.
00:12:21I found something in my son's closet.
00:12:23Wrapping a plastic bag.
00:12:25I think it's a human head.
00:12:28Start fire.
00:12:29Start fire.
00:12:30Get down.
00:12:31I was right there.
00:12:32And he stared at me.
00:12:33He has a gunshot wound to the neck.
00:12:34Gunshot wound to the neck.
00:12:35Go, go, go, go, go.
00:12:37Extreme caution.
00:12:38Don't let him out of your sight.
00:12:40Hands up.
00:12:41If you're in here, make yourself known.
00:12:44Where's he at?
00:12:45Crime in Progress.
00:12:46New episodes.
00:12:47Watch now.
00:12:48Part of Crime and Investigation.
00:12:49Only on A&E.
00:13:01Unfortunately for us, the video surveillance is at night.
00:13:04And they are wearing masks, three of them.
00:13:06So that makes it challenging.
00:13:13But anything distinctive helps us.
00:13:16You can see a camo jacket.
00:13:18And some Nikes.
00:13:21And you can form a suspect from that.
00:13:24It ends with this.
00:13:29And they're running away in the same direction that they came from.
00:13:32They fled through this area.
00:13:35And then back out this way.
00:13:37Likely to this road here.
00:13:41We have some areas of interest we can look for.
00:13:44Video surveillance.
00:13:44It might help us ID them a little better.
00:13:46There's some apartments here that look good.
00:13:49So we have some things to do.
00:13:53But at least we have a starting point.
00:13:57Video is going to be the key in this case, I think.
00:13:59Because we don't have any suspects at this time.
00:14:01We will probably secure for the night here shortly.
00:14:04I'm just, like, prepping this for the next shift.
00:14:07And making sure, like, the list of cameras is theirs.
00:14:11And when they do their brief, they can divvy up and hit the ground running in the morning.
00:14:16This is a completely innocent victim.
00:14:18He was literally sleeping in his bed after a long day's work.
00:14:22I mean, it's horrible.
00:14:24And it also sucks because right now we don't have any answers.
00:14:27But our goal is to bring justice to the victim and for his family.
00:14:4610 hours in.
00:14:47All right.
00:14:48Everybody's here.
00:14:48Ready?
00:14:49We are so ready.
00:14:50We're ready.
00:14:51The case is assigned to Corporal Rob Van Tyne, a 20-year veteran with the North Charleston Police Department.
00:14:57All right.
00:14:58So this happened last night.
00:14:59I know the patrol responded at 2150 hours.
00:15:02There was three victims that were robbed.
00:15:05They said that four males robbed them.
00:15:08And then they fired shots backwards.
00:15:10As they're running off, the victim was sleeping in his trailer and got hit by gunfire.
00:15:15They run towards this pond, and that's where you lose them from the camera.
00:15:19I imagine if you're going to take a car, you've got to go out Facet Road on up.
00:15:22You've got to go left on stall or right on stall.
00:15:24We need to see if there's any video that we can obtain.
00:15:26They actually have good video on the second building in that apartment complex.
00:15:32Also, Sergeant Bailey was saying somebody ran.
00:15:35They found a broken fence.
00:15:39So it could have been him jumping the fence into the apartment complex.
00:15:43There's a good chance to really just look at the apartments.
00:15:46I agree.
00:15:47I think the main thing right now is just getting as much footage from the surrounding area as possible
00:15:50and see what we got, whether it's vehicle leaving or if they're staying on foot and running.
00:15:54If I can do that apartment complex.
00:15:56Y'all said they have cameras there?
00:15:58Yeah.
00:15:58Get all the cameras there from the external if we can.
00:16:00We've got you, manzine.
00:16:04So I came in this morning and noticed the night shift call-out team responded to this,
00:16:09where it gets passed on to the next person in the rotation.
00:16:12I like being on scene, being the one who responds to it.
00:16:15Unfortunately, this one I'm not.
00:16:16So I have to review the notes that they did and then go from there.
00:16:19I just wish we had more information to go off of right now.
00:16:22There's nothing to connect the victims to the suspects.
00:16:24We don't have a car.
00:16:25We don't have anything yet.
00:16:27So it's really a whodunit.
00:16:28So we'll see if the cameras and the footage, if we can develop some more leads.
00:16:40Back here in this corner is where they put a pallet over a fence
00:16:43and you can see footprints where they've been climbing over a fence.
00:16:56There's no video.
00:16:57The security cameras at the apartment complex aren't working.
00:17:05But the team will canvas each apartment for doorbell cameras.
00:17:09So it gives them a lot of problems.
00:17:13According to someone in the building, there have been complaints about two young men on the second floor.
00:17:20One of the males was sitting on this Kia yesterday.
00:17:23Stolen out of city.
00:17:24The ignitions popped.
00:17:27You think they could be our bad guys?
00:17:29Dogs tracked back here.
00:17:31It's a possibility, yeah.
00:17:36I had a still shot of the suspects from our surveillance camera for the shooting.
00:17:40He picked up two from the four individuals.
00:17:43Detective David Pritchard showed the video image to the tipster.
00:17:47He said that he thinks the two in the middle are the two sons that live in this apartment.
00:17:52Who may be our guys?
00:17:55We're going to do a knock and talk reference to that stolen car.
00:17:58See if it has anything to do with our homicide.
00:18:17Detectives bring out a woman and her two teenage sons.
00:18:24We came up here and knocked on the door.
00:18:27They opened a door, freaked the marijuana.
00:18:29So we pulled everybody for investigative detention.
00:18:32Now we're going to get a search warrant type for the residents for anything related to the incident.
00:18:37What are we doing?
00:18:41Hey, listen to what you see and calm down.
00:18:45I'm their mom.
00:18:46Maybe these kids were involved in the incident.
00:19:00I wonder if there's a way we can downplay it and say some items were stolen.
00:19:05Let's get those items back.
00:19:06Maybe they'd be more forthcoming.
00:19:12Vantine starts with the older brother.
00:19:15Vantine starts with the older brother.
00:19:15Is that your apartment over there?
00:19:16Off the facet?
00:19:18Your sisters?
00:19:20How long have you been there?
00:19:23We just recently moved there.
00:19:25So they came, they smelled marijuana, whatever.
00:19:27Is there anything else in there?
00:19:28Because I know they're going to go in there and look.
00:19:30Is there any weapons or anything like that?
00:19:32Like is there like a gun or something where they'll find?
00:19:34Mm-hmm.
00:19:35They might find a bit of weed.
00:19:37Weed?
00:19:37Any other substances or anything?
00:19:39Mm-hmm.
00:19:40I gotcha.
00:19:41Okay.
00:19:42No, basically, um, be honest with me.
00:19:44Did you take any items from some people in trouble that we could somehow get back to them?
00:19:57I found something in my son's closet wrapping a plastic bag.
00:20:02I think it's a human head.
00:20:04Start fire!
00:20:05Start fire!
00:20:06Get down!
00:20:07I was right there, and he stared at me.
00:20:10He has a gunshot wound to the neck.
00:20:11Gunshot wound to the neck.
00:20:12Go, go, go, go, go.
00:20:13Extreme caution.
00:20:15Don't let him out of your sight.
00:20:16Hands up!
00:20:18If you're in here, make yourself know, where's he at?
00:20:22Crime in Progress.
00:20:23New episodes.
00:20:24Watch now.
00:20:24Part of Crime and Investigation.
00:20:25Only on A&E.
00:20:34I don't know how I take diamonds.
00:20:36Did someone else take some items that you were with?
00:20:40No.
00:20:46No.
00:20:46Because you know what happens is when we go through, we pull surveillance video.
00:20:50Mm-hmm.
00:20:51Everywhere, right?
00:20:51The trail park and all that.
00:20:52Mm-hmm.
00:20:53There's cameras on facet.
00:20:54There's cameras further down.
00:20:56So I just don't want you caught in a lie with that, okay?
00:21:00So, I'm asking you to honestly, be honest, if you were at that trailer park...
00:21:06No.
00:21:09That's when I was just sleeping.
00:21:11You were at home the whole time?
00:21:12Yeah.
00:21:13Okay.
00:21:14And if it shows that you weren't in the house and you actually left...
00:21:17What then?
00:21:18Yeah, you can show me that.
00:21:20Okay.
00:21:30Hey, how's it going, man?
00:21:31Vantine turns to the younger brother.
00:21:34Hey, I'm going to be honest with you.
00:21:35Some items were taken from some people at a trailer park further down the road.
00:21:42Did you go over to that trailer park?
00:21:43I don't got nothing from nobody.
00:21:47Was home all day yesterday.
00:21:49So you stayed there the entire time?
00:21:50I was home all day yesterday.
00:21:52As a man, that's your word.
00:21:53Yeah, I was home all day yesterday.
00:21:55Okay.
00:21:57Be right back.
00:22:05So I can't say 100% that they're involved.
00:22:07I just know that right now you have the path leading to their apartment.
00:22:14You have a man that's saying from the still images that two of them look like kids that belong to
00:22:18that apartment.
00:22:19And the fact that I feel just from interviewing that they're lying about last night kind of leads me to
00:22:27believe they're involved, but we'll see.
00:22:29Search warrant's going to be completed.
00:22:31Maybe there's a weapon in there.
00:22:32You never know.
00:22:33Cam is still talking to the mother.
00:22:36Maybe we'll get more information from her.
00:22:42So, let me be honest with you.
00:22:44So, there was an incident that happened across the street at the trailer parking stall.
00:22:49Some Hispanics were robbed.
00:22:51And in the process, there were some individuals that shot at a trailer.
00:22:55And we arrived on seeing a male deceased who was sleeping in this trailer.
00:23:02Those subjects then ran towards the apartments of where y'all are staying.
00:23:07And one of your sons were in the Kia just sitting there.
00:23:11And there have been a number of Kias stolen from the area.
00:23:14Do you know any reason why either one of your sons would be inside that Kia?
00:23:19They shouldn't be.
00:23:21Listen.
00:23:22I worked from 7 in the morning until 8 in the night.
00:23:24Just now.
00:23:26I really see my kids sometimes.
00:23:29I work in Brindle's I got a goal to accomplish.
00:23:32I don't want this for them.
00:23:33I want better.
00:23:36Now, I can tell you, I'm not going to lie for my kids if I leave at home yesterday.
00:23:40Okay.
00:23:41Now, if they just broke in that car, then they got to deal with the consequences.
00:23:45Yeah.
00:23:47There's no reason for them to have to do anything like this.
00:23:52Because I give them what they want.
00:23:53We're just following our leads and going upon our investigation.
00:23:57Have you ever seen either one of your sons carrying a firearm before?
00:24:01I'm against guns.
00:24:03I don't like guns.
00:24:04You know, that's just, I feel like what you need a gun for.
00:24:08No.
00:24:09But at no point in time yesterday, you recall your sons leaving?
00:24:13No.
00:24:13They didn't leave.
00:24:15All right.
00:24:15Just give me a second, all right?
00:24:16All right.
00:24:20They're saying they were at home the entire time.
00:24:22Yeah.
00:24:22That's what she's saying.
00:24:24I feel like she would tell me otherwise.
00:24:27I honestly do believe as much as she was telling them to calm down on scene.
00:24:32Like, be respectful.
00:24:34I feel like she would tell us.
00:24:35Yeah.
00:24:36If they weren't in the house.
00:24:38Did she ask them anything about the car?
00:24:41The Kia.
00:24:42One of them were in the Kia.
00:24:44I didn't ask him.
00:24:46I'll ask the other one.
00:24:49Hey, quick question, too.
00:24:50There's a Kia that's parked out there.
00:24:53Were you inside that vehicle at all?
00:24:54What about your brother?
00:24:56Any of y'all inside that vehicle?
00:24:58Mm-hmm.
00:24:59Do you know who that vehicle belongs to?
00:25:01No.
00:25:02Do you know where it came from?
00:25:04Mm-hmm.
00:25:07All right.
00:25:13We don't know this car.
00:25:15Same answer from the other guy.
00:25:18They don't know anything about the car and they're not in it.
00:25:21Those people put you in it.
00:25:23I think they're lying about that.
00:25:25Whether they're involved in this murder, I do not know.
00:25:27But we'll find out once we get the search warrant.
00:25:29We get more information from pulling the video cameras.
00:25:32At least we've locked them into statements.
00:25:34That's the important thing.
00:25:35We've locked them into statements so we can either validate those statements
00:25:38or we can disprove them at this point.
00:25:40So we'll see what happens.
00:25:45Then...
00:25:46Hold on a second.
00:25:47Detective Pritchard calls in from the apartment complex.
00:25:50We got video from before the shooting that shows those kids leaving this apartment.
00:25:54About what time?
00:25:59The video shows three men leaving the complex 10 minutes before the call to 9-1-1.
00:26:05Did you check your email or your text?
00:26:07Yeah, I got it coming through.
00:26:09Thank you.
00:26:13That's their building.
00:26:15Mm-hmm.
00:26:17Holy .
00:26:20It's absolutely hell, man.
00:26:23Yeah, what's up?
00:26:24Thank you, Michael.
00:26:26Yeah.
00:26:37I've got to run to keep a holland.
00:26:42And I'm bound to keep on mad.
00:27:07¡Suscríbete al canal!
00:27:18You're not listening, so this is great. You're as great as the trooper is.
00:27:27Court Cam. New episodes. Watch now on A Crime and Investigation. Only on A&E.
00:27:41100% that's them. The shoes, the camo jacket.
00:27:50Where are they coming from, then?
00:27:53You can't see no one's face.
00:27:57Does it have them coming back?
00:27:59Do we have a video of them coming back after you?
00:28:01I'll just see more.
00:28:02Put this on the big screen of the computer, just so we can kind of get a better look at
00:28:07them.
00:28:11Here they are coming down. Six to ten minutes before the murder.
00:28:15The doorbell video is from an apartment below the brothers.
00:28:19We don't have them coming out of the actual apartment. We have them coming down the stairs.
00:28:24And the shoes are.
00:28:29Those are the green nightmare.
00:28:35Let's print out the image of this.
00:28:39I'll go and talk to the mom. And then we'll try to get her to identify them.
00:28:44You ready?
00:28:46Hey, how's it going? I'm, uh, Detective Bantone.
00:28:53Who's who?
00:29:09All right, I'll show you something real quick. Let's do a video.
00:29:13Detective Cam Miller shows her the surveillance video from the crime scene.
00:29:18Oh, I don't know.
00:29:20Listen to me for a second. And I get it. You're their mom. You're supposed to protect them.
00:29:23Well, and I wouldn't lie for them either.
00:29:26Because right is right and wrong is wrong.
00:29:28And I'm going to be honest.
00:29:30I don't know who this is.
00:29:32I don't know. I do not know.
00:29:35I'm telling you.
00:29:37These green and white shoes, I never saw before.
00:29:40Okay.
00:29:54She's denied. Basically knowing anybody.
00:29:56I would bet money they're involved, but we'll see.
00:29:59You have to get more.
00:30:04Then...
00:30:04Perfect. Thank you.
00:30:05The team searching the brothers' apartment reaches out.
00:30:09So they found 9mm handguns in there, and there are 9mm blazers.
00:30:14They recovered two stolen guns and ammunition that's the same brand as the casings found at the crime scene.
00:30:21I think we're on the right track here.
00:30:23That's good news. That would tie that apartment definitively.
00:30:27We'll test fire them here, and one of those weapons will hopefully match.
00:30:32So I'll confront them on it.
00:30:38Hey, how's it going, man?
00:30:43So, um, a couple 9mm were found in your house.
00:30:48I've got the cameras. I've got video of you leaving.
00:30:53I want to know, yesterday night, who was with you when you went over to the trailers?
00:31:02Where did the guns come from that were inside your apartment?
00:31:08Hmm?
00:31:12Your cousins?
00:31:14Was your cousin with you last night?
00:31:19But not last night?
00:31:23So he wasn't involved?
00:31:26So all I've got right now is you and your brother.
00:31:28That's a problem for you and your brother.
00:31:31I need you to come clean with me if there's a third person.
00:31:36Or, if you're the one who f***ed up, then say you f***ed up.
00:31:40And don't drag the other two down.
00:31:45Which one's you?
00:32:09He says he recognizes the men in the video from another apartment.
00:32:13Do you know their names?
00:32:24No.
00:32:40The original ring camera footage that was sent to me, he's got even more.
00:32:45The owner of the doorbell camera sends additional video clips.
00:32:55He comes and picks up laundry at 10 o'clock.
00:32:59Mm-hmm.
00:33:00The video confirms the younger brother was at home at the time of the murder.
00:33:08Hmm.
00:33:10Okay, so he's ruled out completely.
00:33:14They're going to test fire the gun.
00:33:15And right now, eyeballing it, they think it doesn't match.
00:33:18That's what we're getting at.
00:33:21The casings from the crime scene do not appear to have been fired from the recovered weapons.
00:33:29These aren't the guys.
00:33:32It's someone else that just happened to come from the apartments where they are.
00:33:42Which apartment is he saying?
00:33:45Maybe he said the one next door, the one right to the left.
00:33:49That's a good one.
00:33:53Obviously, if you smell anything, let everybody get out and we'll detain everybody, like we did the first time.
00:34:05You ready?
00:34:05You can come on in.
00:34:06I'll get you out of here.
00:34:10That's just bad luck.
00:34:13It was looking like these were going to be our guys.
00:34:16Sometimes you get it wrong, but you just don't know until you question them and try to get to the
00:34:19truth of the matter.
00:34:20They did have stolen guns and a stolen vehicle in their possession, so they are involved with criminal activity.
00:34:27Just not what we're investigating right now.
00:34:29We let them go.
00:34:30We can always charge them later if we want to.
00:34:32No rush on it right now.
00:34:34I mean, I'm frustrated that it didn't turn out.
00:34:37But the positive side is where that apartment is, the upstairs, these are our guys.
00:34:41So at least we have these three are 100%.
00:34:45So now it's just a matter of if we can identify them.
00:34:48And it's this one is the one that fired the shots on camera.
00:34:52So nice to figure out who he is.
00:34:54If we identify all four of these subjects, all four will be charged with murder.
00:35:00Hand of one, hand of all.
00:35:13Hard drive for police.
00:35:23Nobody is coming through the door.
00:35:24La problem es que no hay nada más que hit.
00:35:29I have a male wearing a camouflage hoodie.
00:35:32Who's in and out of that apartment?
00:35:34Miller recovers more doorbell video
00:35:35from an apartment across from the potential suspects.
00:35:39Oh, hold on. That might be our guy.
00:35:43One of the suspects had a camo jacket on.
00:35:45He's got a camo jacket.
00:35:48She's here. He wears it all.
00:35:51That's going to be one of our guys.
00:35:55I don't think we have enough video to maybe do a facial rec.
00:35:58We're on the right track.
00:35:59We got some stuff to go off of.
00:36:01We just gotta follow up on it.
00:36:10Later that night...
00:36:11So I have these pictures
00:36:13that we got from this ring camera that's across the hall.
00:36:17So what I'm going to do is I'm going to take that picture
00:36:18and put it into Verkata and see what pops up.
00:36:23Our Verkata cameras are a city asset camera
00:36:25that we pay for to install.
00:36:27Two years ago, the city of North Charleston
00:36:30added over 700 surveillance cameras across the city
00:36:33to help reduce crime and improve police response time.
00:36:36They record things at major intersections.
00:36:38We can see everything from shootings to robberies
00:36:41to collisions to petty larcenies.
00:36:44We're extremely used for one of the best tools we have.
00:36:46The facial recognition software for Verkata
00:36:48is a very new feature they just added.
00:36:51It'll show up a bunch of different pictures
00:36:52who could possibly look like who I'm looking for.
00:36:56Okay, so I just put these into Verkata.
00:36:59What do you think, Malone?
00:37:01Come take a look at this real quick.
00:37:03This guy pops up right here
00:37:05with that exact same camo jacket.
00:37:09This was earlier that day, Thursday, April 25th.
00:37:14That's possibly one of the suspects right there.
00:37:26I found something in my son's closet
00:37:29wrapped in a plastic bag.
00:37:31I think it's a human head.
00:37:33Start fire!
00:37:34Start fire!
00:37:35Get down!
00:37:36I was right then, and he stared at me.
00:37:39Give the gunshot one to the neck.
00:37:40Gunshot one to the neck.
00:37:41Go, go, go, go, go, go.
00:37:42Extreme caution.
00:37:44Don't let him out of your sight.
00:37:46Hands up!
00:37:47If you're in here, make yourself know
00:37:49where's he at?
00:37:50Crime in Progress.
00:37:52New episodes, watch now.
00:37:53Part of Crime and Investigation, only on A&E.
00:38:04That looks like the guy from the ring camera video
00:38:07of his camo jacket right here.
00:38:10So we're seeing a potential suspect
00:38:12wearing similar clothes the same day as the shooting.
00:38:19He's walking alongside another male who's wearing similar clothes to what one of the other shooters
00:38:25is wearing.
00:38:25This dude looks like this dude right here.
00:38:29And then this guy right here with the long black shirt, the dark pants and the black shoes.
00:38:34Looks like this guy right here.
00:38:37I think that could be two of our guys right there.
00:38:42This varicata camera is located in our East Montague area.
00:38:46There is a school just down the street.
00:38:48Maybe somebody at the school would recognize those two.
00:38:51And then we're going to send these images up to SLED.
00:38:53That's our South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
00:38:55They have a lot of resources that we don't have.
00:38:58Hopefully, we can at least get the ID of two of the suspects out of the four.
00:39:10The next afternoon.
00:39:16This is apartment 13.
00:39:19And this is a guy that associates there.
00:39:25I heard back from Reeves.
00:39:27He talked to the school resource officer.
00:39:29We have identified him as Tristan Robertson.
00:39:33He's the one in the camel jacket.
00:39:37In his DMV photo, he's also wearing a camo jacket.
00:39:4319-year-old Tristan Robertson, a former student at North Charleston High School, has no prior convictions.
00:39:50Now, look who he's walking with.
00:39:51The body build of this guy.
00:39:54Doesn't that look very similar to this person?
00:39:57The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division ran the photo in their database and got a hit.
00:40:04The facial rag, we identified him as Kobe Bryant.
00:40:08He was convicted of strong-arm robbery.
00:40:10He also got convicted for failure to stop for blue lights, so he's known to run.
00:40:15After serving 10 months in jail for larceny and receiving stolen goods, 22-year-old Kobe Bryant was released six
00:40:22months ago.
00:40:25I think this is Tristan.
00:40:27I don't know who this is.
00:40:28I think this is Kobe.
00:40:30So we're going to do, like, a workup on them, see if they're on probation, what their phone number is,
00:40:37all that.
00:40:38I hope we can get these guys in custody, because once we catch at least one of them, they'll hopefully
00:40:42snitch on the others.
00:40:50As the clock winds down...
00:40:52I'm Detective Vantine.
00:40:53I'm assigned to the case for both the robbery and the homicide.
00:40:57Vantine meets with Eriberto's family and the three robbery victims.
00:41:01When we came in on Thursday, we had no idea who did this.
00:41:05Friday, we ended up pulling video from the area and got a description of possible suspects.
00:41:11Now, today, we've got possible names, and we're trying to piece that together.
00:41:16So we're actually a lot closer than we were.
00:41:20Sometimes these investigations take time.
00:41:22Let them know the second we make an arrest, the second we make an arrest, they are the first people
00:41:27we will call and let them know.
00:41:29Please, we would really appreciate that.
00:41:31Oh, Dev, we're working hard, trust me.
00:41:33We are doing our best we can.
00:41:34So, if this is important, Detective, that they understand.
00:41:37It's important that they have...
00:41:38This takes time.
00:41:41Yeah.
00:41:42They're working on the ground, okay?
00:41:45But I know, here's the best police department there is, no Charleston, period.
00:41:54They're the best.
00:41:55You don't worry about that.
00:41:56Solo let them work, right?
00:41:58And work with the situation, but they need time.
00:42:01It's going to be okay.
00:42:02Okay.
00:42:04Thank you.
00:42:04Thank you.
00:42:18In the first 48, North Charleston detectives responded to the murder of Heriberto Martinez Martinez, killed in his sleep by
00:42:26a stray bullet during a robbery.
00:42:28Spoke to the robbery, spoke to the robbery victims, who said four men fled the scene, firing as they ran.
00:42:34Discovered video surveillance that tracked three of the men to an apartment complex near the crime scene.
00:42:39Identified two of the possible suspects as Tristan Robertson and Kobe Bryant.
00:42:44But all four suspects are still at large.
00:42:56Two days later.
00:42:57One of our guys that I think we've identified in the photo, Kobe Bryant, is going to meet with his
00:43:04P.O.
00:43:05Detectives head out to meet with Kobe's parole officers, hoping to question Kobe.
00:43:10We just want to talk to him, see if he will identify himself, and also see if his P.O.
00:43:14will identify him from that photo that we have.
00:43:25Thank you so much for meeting with us.
00:43:28I'm Detective Vanton.
00:43:29Nice to meet you.
00:43:30Same here.
00:43:30Can we show you a photo?
00:43:33Yep, that looks like him.
00:43:36That definitely I can tell is Kobe.
00:43:38That's Kobe?
00:43:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:43:41Is he pretty cooperative?
00:43:42Would he talk with us?
00:43:43I think so.
00:43:44Because believe it or not, he doesn't want to go back to jail.
00:43:46Helps us.
00:43:47Like, we'll try our best to help him.
00:43:50Just text him.
00:43:50You said 10 minutes.
00:43:51Okay.
00:43:52Thank you.
00:43:53Thank you, guys.
00:43:54Yeah.
00:43:56Well, that's a good sign she's pretty much thinking that's him.
00:43:59And it's just a matter of getting him to just say, that's me.
00:44:03And once he admits that, we have him.
00:44:06And all we have to do is, at that point, is see if he'll give up the other names.
00:44:23Yeah, I see him.
00:44:24I see him.
00:44:25Yes, ma'am.
00:44:26Thank you.
00:44:29I'm going to go hot.
00:44:31Yeah, come on.
00:44:36Kobe spots the detectives.
00:44:39And takes off.
00:45:04Can I have an EMS to the Lonnie Hamilton building?
00:45:07Myself and a suspect.
00:45:09We fell after a brief foot chase.
00:45:13Oh, yeah.
00:45:23We just wanted to talk to him, so it makes it look a little weird that he just takes off
00:45:27running as soon as we get out of the car.
00:45:33Kobe Bryant's parole officer approaches Miller.
00:45:48Inside the car is the other person of interest, Tristan Robertson.
00:45:53There's Tristan in the back seat.
00:45:56Okay.
00:45:56Hey, close to that back seat and detain that.
00:46:05Tristan.
00:46:06Okay.
00:46:06We got anything here.
00:46:10He's good.
00:46:11He's good.
00:46:11Butler is going to go sit at the hospital.
00:46:14We'll take him to the detective day right now.
00:46:16While Kobe is taken to the hospital for evaluation, Tristan is detained for questioning.
00:46:21We got Tristan and Kobe.
00:46:23We got Tristan and Kobe.
00:46:24Tristan was in the back seat to work out.
00:46:26Hopefully, he'll talk to us, though, because they're not happy right now.
00:46:36That's Tristan Robertson.
00:46:38Gonna go in and try to interview him, see if he'll admit that he's in the photos.
00:46:43What do y'all need?
00:46:44A few kind words.
00:46:45Some support.
00:46:46You got this.
00:46:47Thank you.
00:46:47You want a chest bump?
00:46:48You want me to punch you in the chest?
00:46:51Okay.
00:46:56Hey, man.
00:46:56You need any water or anything?
00:46:57You sure?
00:47:00Hurry, go home.
00:47:02Okay.
00:47:02I'll try to get you home as quick as I can.
00:47:04Obviously, you saw what happened out there, right?
00:47:06Running and all that.
00:47:08Can you see me staying right here?
00:47:10I know.
00:47:11That's the thing.
00:47:11That's awesome, dude.
00:47:12How old are you, man?
00:47:1319.
00:47:1419?
00:47:15What grades you complete in school?
00:47:1711.
00:47:18You got your GAD or anything?
00:47:19Oh.
00:47:19I got you.
00:47:20You gonna work on that?
00:47:21Yeah.
00:47:21That's all I'm trying to work on now.
00:47:22Sweet.
00:47:23What do you do for a living, though?
00:47:24I work at Emily Oil.
00:47:26Oh, okay.
00:47:26I got you.
00:47:28No, basically, I just want to talk to you about some things.
00:47:31I want to show you some pictures.
00:47:32That's it.
00:47:33I don't know why he did what he did, but we'll talk to him as well.
00:47:37I want to show a picture.
00:47:41This is off of, like, Jenkins Avenue.
00:47:43This is April 25th, which is a Thursday.
00:47:46Vantine shows Tristan the photo from city cameras
00:47:50taken six hours before the homicide.
00:47:54I mean...
00:47:55Do you have a camouflage jacket like that?
00:47:57No.
00:47:58I used to when I was...
00:48:00That was back in 2021.
00:48:03That how me?
00:48:04I don't know.
00:48:05That's not me.
00:48:08I was with my granny.
00:48:09Thursday and Friday.
00:48:11Where's your granny house?
00:48:14The reason it is, because...
00:48:15So, there was an incident that happened on Thursday night.
00:48:19Where?
00:48:20Around Midland Park and Stahl.
00:48:23I think you were with some people that messed up...
00:48:25Yes.
00:48:26I'm asking you.
00:48:27I'm trying to treat you as a witness here.
00:48:30They eat you here.
00:48:30That's not me, though.
00:48:32I'm telling you.
00:48:33That's not me.
00:48:34Where I was at, you can call my dad and my grandma.
00:48:36So, you stayed at West Ashton the entire time on Friday?
00:48:39I got you.
00:48:41Vantine shows him another photo taken by a city camera...
00:48:44The day after the shooting.
00:48:50So, you're saying that ain't you?
00:48:53Yeah, it's North Charleston.
00:48:54But you're saying you and West Ashton on this date?
00:49:04You're saying, like, the pictures are completely wrong?
00:49:06Like, we could...
00:49:07I don't know.
00:49:07Like, how is there a picture of you in an area that you're claiming you're not?
00:49:11We have cameras all over the city.
00:49:13We have cameras all over Stahl Road.
00:49:15We have cameras all over Fassett.
00:49:16You see what I'm saying?
00:49:25Okay.
00:49:32I'll be back.
00:49:34You sit tight.
00:49:38We have cameras.
00:49:46He's just denying everything.
00:49:48He didn't know what to say after you showed him that left.
00:49:50No.
00:49:50He said, that's not me.
00:49:52And then, Lord...
00:49:53Like, he literally said he's in West Ashton.
00:49:55He never left West Ashton.
00:50:02A few minutes later...
00:50:04Hi, Diane.
00:50:04...Coby arrives at headquarters.
00:50:08I'll get Detective Butler to try to talk to him.
00:50:11Maybe it'd be better that someone who wasn't on scene when he ran and ran after him would be probably
00:50:15better.
00:50:16He's requested to speak to Sergeant Mike Brown, who used to mentor him when he was a younger kid.
00:50:22The detective Coby requested is currently working for the chief of police.
00:50:27So I'm gonna get in contact with him to see if he'd be willing to come down and speak to
00:50:30Coby.
00:50:31The murder's at 9.50 p.m.
00:50:33Yeah.
00:50:34This is at 3.50 on the day of the murder.
00:50:36You get him to identify himself, that's gonna be Coby, and that's gonna be Tristan.
00:50:41Tiff found this picture on Coby's Facebook, and those shoes are the green Nike.
00:50:49The Facebook photo of Coby was posted four months ago.
00:50:54His shoes match.
00:50:55If you watch the actual video, the shoes match from his picture there.
00:51:12Butler shows him a photo from a city camera on the day of the shooting.
00:51:17I don't know who that is.
00:51:20No idea who that is?
00:51:22No.
00:51:25But you know what happened Thursday?
00:51:27No.
00:51:27I don't know what happened Thursday.
00:51:30Let me ask you a question.
00:51:31Do you have some, um, white and teal or bluish, like high-top Nike or whatever?
00:51:37No.
00:51:37Did you let, you know what I'm talking about?
00:51:38No.
00:51:39It's on your, you're waiting on your Facebook page.
00:51:44Hey, man.
00:51:44You know how we roll, right?
00:51:54Yes, sir.
00:51:55You have those shoes, right?
00:51:56No.
00:51:57I don't know.
00:51:58Did you give those shoes to somebody?
00:52:00No.
00:52:01Those shoes were given to me, but I didn't give them.
00:52:03I left them at a friend's house.
00:52:05When?
00:52:06Long time.
00:52:07Okay.
00:52:08All right.
00:52:08We'll talk to you for a minute.
00:52:13Listen, man.
00:52:14I don't know.
00:52:14How long have we known each other?
00:52:16Long time.
00:52:17Long time.
00:52:18Long time.
00:52:18I know your family.
00:52:20Right?
00:52:22I know you.
00:52:24And that may be the case, but they don't have you up here for no reason.
00:52:28I've been doing this for a long time.
00:52:30I'm telling you 100%, everything that they're asking you, they know the answers to for the
00:52:36most part.
00:52:36They're not just asking you for no reason.
00:52:39This is your opportunity to help yourself out as best you can.
00:52:44There's only one thing I need from you.
00:52:47I need for you to at least tell me the truth.
00:53:08Kobe, listen to me.
00:53:09I don't want to see you throw your life away, dude.
00:53:12Me neither.
00:53:13I just call home.
00:53:14It's time to get my life back together.
00:53:17Right.
00:53:18And I don't want to see anything happen to you.
00:53:20But if you're not telling the truth, you know what's going to happen.
00:53:24But I had nothing to do with this situation.
00:53:26I had nothing to do with it.
00:53:27I don't even know what's going on.
00:53:30I'm not saying that you did anything, that you shot somebody.
00:53:35But I know you might be a witness to it.
00:53:37Witness to a murder?
00:53:40I didn't know nothing about no murder, no nothing.
00:53:43I didn't know it was something that happened on Star Road last week.
00:53:46I saw it on Facebook.
00:53:49So what happened?
00:53:50I don't know.
00:53:51They said somebody being robbed or some shit,
00:53:52investigating an armed robbery with you.
00:53:54I guess one person died of some shit.
00:53:56I don't know nothing about the shit.
00:53:58I'd be in my cowhouse, I'd be at her, and I'd be home.
00:54:01Other than that, I don't be in nobody else.
00:54:05You know there's a difference between being a suspect and a witness, right?
00:54:10I'm innocent.
00:54:11What's the difference?
00:54:12I ain't a suspect.
00:54:13I'm innocent bystander.
00:54:15Right.
00:54:15And what's a witness?
00:54:17Someone has knowledge of me.
00:54:18I don't got knowledge of shit.
00:54:20Right.
00:54:20So there's two different things.
00:54:21Yeah, I guess I don't have to be real.
00:54:23I don't have knowledge of what happened Thursday night,
00:54:25and I was not a suspect of shit that happened Thursday night.
00:54:29I got you.
00:54:30I understand what you're saying.
00:54:32That's what you're trying to say.
00:54:33I'm trying to understand what's going on.
00:54:36I wasn't there.
00:54:38And if I was there, I'd have told you what's there,
00:54:40but I wasn't there.
00:54:43What if there's something that shows different?
00:54:46There's something that shows different than Miami.
00:54:49Miami.
00:54:50Miami.
00:54:50I don't want to be anywhere.
00:54:53Alright.
00:54:54It's Sergeant Bailey.
00:54:56What's up, man?
00:54:56Yes, sir.
00:54:58Sir, I know you've been in here talking to Sergeant Brown,
00:55:01because I've been listening.
00:55:02He's not lying to you when he tells you that we have a lot more
00:55:05than what you think we have.
00:55:07I want to wait some stuff down on the table for you, alright?
00:55:11Because we've been investigating this thing
00:55:13since it happened last Thursday night.
00:55:15Alright.
00:55:17So, you know that the city has thousands of cameras around it?
00:55:22Pretty sure live.
00:55:23Yeah.
00:55:23Let's just make this real easy, okay?
00:55:26Who is that?
00:55:30You.
00:55:31Okay.
00:55:31I'm not trying to trick you.
00:55:33Alright.
00:55:33What's the time frame on that?
00:55:35427.
00:55:37Alright.
00:55:37Alright.
00:55:38Okay.
00:55:38This is East Monaghan.
00:55:40I'm trying to jog your memory.
00:55:42Alright.
00:55:42Same area.
00:55:43Same day.
00:55:47Who's that?
00:55:48Bailey shows him a photo of Tristan.
00:55:50Okay.
00:55:51What a life lawyer?
00:55:52What a life lawyer?
00:55:54What a life lawyer?
00:55:56What a life lawyer?
00:55:56What a life lawyer, hap?
00:55:59I wonder who that is.
00:56:01You don't know who that is?
00:56:02I met him today.
00:56:04I knew.
00:56:05I met him today.
00:56:06I don't lose, elle and...
00:56:10You met him today?
00:56:12Yes.
00:56:12Colby, ¿qué haces?
00:56:14¿No te metes?
00:56:34¿Verdad?
00:56:34¿Estás en una situación?
00:56:37Sí, quiero que entiendas cómo mal esta situación.
00:56:39¿Está en una situación?
00:56:40Yo tengo tu P.O.
00:56:42Me llevo el video, la persona aquí.
00:56:48¿De dónde está?
00:56:50¿No?
00:56:51¿Se está diciendo?
00:56:55¿Esto está diciendo?
00:56:57¿Se está diciendo?
00:56:57¿Esto está diciendo?
00:56:59¿No?
00:57:06¿No?
00:57:06¿No?
00:57:06¿No?
00:57:42¡Vamos, chas!
00:57:42Pero tú no me dijo nada de este!
00:57:44¡Diiéndolo!
00:57:45¡Ah, díaz!
00:57:47¡Ah, a gente!
00:57:48¡Me voy a hablar!
00:57:50¡Ya!
00:57:51¡Me voy a hablar!
00:57:51¡Ah, sí, me voy a hablar!
00:57:52¡Le hambre!
00:57:52¡No, no, no!
00:57:54¡No, no, no!
00:57:55¡No, no, no!
00:57:57¡No, no!
00:57:57¡No, no!
00:57:58¡No!
00:57:58¡No!
00:57:59¡No!
00:57:59¡Me voy a hablar!
00:57:59I understand, but Colby, listen to what I'm telling you.
00:58:04Turn around, man, let's talk. Turn around, let's talk.
00:58:07That's disrespectful to turn your back on me.
00:58:09You remember, y'all ain't getting me s***.
00:58:10Y'all seen I was in a violent armed robbery or some s***.
00:58:12I'm not talking about that no more.
00:58:15I'm here for you.
00:58:17I think this is the best detective unit in the state, probably in the world.
00:58:22They're great at what they do.
00:58:24They'll find the truth, I guarantee you that.
00:58:26They'll find it, but I wasn't there.
00:58:28They'll find the truth.
00:58:28I'm always around, so call me if you need to talk to me about this.
00:58:34All right.
00:58:40He loaded up, so there's no way to get him to do.
00:58:42Oh, yeah, he loaded up. He was being faced with too much music.
00:58:46But I did leave him with, I'll be here.
00:58:49I can just have somebody call me. We'll talk it out.
00:58:53When I got the call that he was down here,
00:58:55I had to get prepared to put the Big Brother coat on.
00:58:57Sergeant Mike Brown first met Kobe several years ago as a school resource officer.
00:59:03I played football with his uncle in high school, and he walked up to me and like,
00:59:08hey, you know my family.
00:59:09And so we formed a pretty good rapport, good relationship.
00:59:13And I always kept that door open with him, like, hey, man, if you need something, I'm there for you.
00:59:18But in this case, it's different.
00:59:20I mean, it's a murder, so it's kind of hard to break that barrier right now.
00:59:25Probation officer called just now.
00:59:28Yeah.
00:59:30Kobe's mom called her.
00:59:31She found credit cards and debit cards with Hispanic names in Christian's room.
00:59:37According to the parole officer, the cards were found in a bedroom shared by Kobe's two younger brothers.
00:59:44Kobe's got a brother named Christian and a brother named Jameson.
00:59:53Christian Bryant?
00:59:5420-year-old Christian Bryant has no prior convictions.
01:00:00This is Jameson Bryant.
01:00:0218-year-old Jameson Bryant also has no prior convictions.
01:00:06The thing is, is we have four suspects, so it could be all them and Tristan.
01:00:15That's what I'm thinking.
01:00:17It's going to be him, his two brothers, probably, and Tristan.
01:00:21That witness approach may be failing with him because he knows it's his brother to be the shooter.
01:00:27hell.
01:00:29Let's go.
01:00:30We've got to get a search warrant going.
01:00:31We need to get someone over there to get those.
01:00:34Give Tiffany the phone number.
01:00:36Because Tiffany's going to go with Gina and Cockrell.
01:00:42That's her apartment.
01:00:43That's her contact number.
01:00:45Okay.
01:00:47Really, if we can get the names on the cards and then we'll still do a search warrant.
01:00:51I hope they come back to our victims.
01:00:54I think these are our guys.
01:01:01If the credit card comes back to one of the victims that was robbed, that would seal the deal.
01:01:18I'm going to put you on speaker.
01:01:23I'm going to repeat that.
01:01:28I'm going to put you on speaker.
01:01:35That's awesome.
01:01:36That's great news.
01:01:37Thank you.
01:01:38Thank you.
01:01:39Kofor's son fled the residence and she doesn't know where they are.
01:01:44According to their mother, Christian and Jamison left home after hearing Kobe was detained and won't return her calls.
01:01:51Kobe was staying with his girlfriend, which is in Goose Creek.
01:01:55That means the clothing's probably in her house in Goose Creek.
01:01:59The team will get warrants to search Kobe's girlfriend's house and his mother's house for additional evidence.
01:02:05It's his two brothers.
01:02:07That's why he can't.
01:02:08That's why he won't play because he can't ride on his brothers.
01:02:11I think with the credit card being found now that belonging to the victim, I think obviously murder charge on
01:02:17him and they're to game.
01:02:19I'm going to go murder on him because he's with them before and after.
01:02:23What the f*** is going on?
01:02:34I don't like the way this thing's going.
01:02:37Muzhan, should I go in jail?
01:02:40All right, what are you going to jail for?
01:02:41They just told me they found some stuff at your mama's house, Kobe, and that's not cool.
01:02:47Like, that ain't cool because I'm sure your mama ain't have nothing to do.
01:02:50She don't, and I don't either.
01:02:52So who has access to your mom's house besides you and your brothers?
01:02:57They don't.
01:02:57And my mom.
01:02:59Okay.
01:03:01So which one of them might be involved in this?
01:03:11Well, I don't know which one of them might be involved today.
01:03:21I don't know.
01:03:21I get it.
01:03:23I understand.
01:03:24It's tough.
01:03:28I can't put your fingers like that.
01:03:29I can't take nothing but nothing.
01:03:33Put the charges on.
01:03:35They're probably going to charge you with murder.
01:03:37I charge you with murder, f***.
01:03:40I don't know if I'm a f***er, man.
01:03:42Don't put your mom through this, bro.
01:03:45Don't do it.
01:03:46You got to be responsible for anything that you've done or anything that you have knowledge of.
01:03:52You know, you didn't find out my mom's house.
01:03:54I don't know s*** about that.
01:03:56I don't know s***.
01:04:00All right.
01:04:03If you know I'm talking to me, you know where I'm at.
01:04:05You know the game's contacting me.
01:04:06She's the answer to the phone.
01:04:10He's not coming off.
01:04:11He's going to tell on the brother, you know, so I understand, but it's what it is.
01:04:20It sounds like his brothers are involved.
01:04:24Some of the things may be at his mother's house.
01:04:26It's a sad situation, but it never has to happen this way.
01:04:30We all have choices.
01:04:31I told him if he wants to talk to us, he knows how to get in touch with me.
01:04:37All right.
01:04:37We're going to transport you to jail.
01:04:39What are my choices?
01:04:40Murder.
01:04:41Murder?
01:04:41Yeah, murder.
01:04:42Me?
01:04:43Yeah, you.
01:04:43How the f*** are you?
01:04:44Why?
01:04:45Why are you getting murdered?
01:04:46That s*** is stupid.
01:04:47That's not me, bro.
01:04:49Wrong person.
01:04:50Ain't no f***ing man.
01:04:51Well, you're being charged with her.
01:04:52That's a f***ing man, bro.
01:04:53That's a f***ing man.
01:04:54I'm going to get to the jail, so.
01:04:56I have a f***.
01:04:57I'm a transporter.
01:04:58Dumb-ass people.
01:05:00Dumb-ass people.
01:05:02Taking that s*** all the way to trial, nigga.
01:05:04I'm calling.
01:05:06It's been a good day.
01:05:07We actually got two suspects in custody for murder.
01:05:10So out of the three suspects, that's Tristan Robertson, and that's Kobe Bryant.
01:05:17This person, we do not know, and he's the shooter.
01:05:20There's actually a fourth suspect that's not pictured here that shows up with them.
01:05:24I believe it's going to be his brothers.
01:05:26It's just not proving it.
01:05:37The next day...
01:05:41You want some water or something?
01:05:43No, I'm okay.
01:05:46This is Kobe's mom.
01:05:48Kobe's probation officer wrote me in an email this morning saying that Kobe's mom wanted to talk to us.
01:05:54She wants to provide additional information because she thinks that her other son is involved with the homicide.
01:06:02Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe.
01:06:06Hello, man.
01:06:07I checked the band time.
01:06:08Nice to meet you.
01:06:11I got here.
01:06:11Two sons that live with you are Christian with a K?
01:06:16Yes.
01:06:17And the other one is Jameson?
01:06:18Yes.
01:06:19Where are they now?
01:06:20I have no clue.
01:06:24When did Kobe move out?
01:06:26Kobe was gone for about a month, and I found out what I found out yesterday.
01:06:30What did you find out?
01:06:31What I heard from Kobe's P.O. is that first he was being detained, and he was supposed to be
01:06:36a person of interest to the robbery.
01:06:41And I was like, what?
01:06:42Like that.
01:06:42You know, I'm shocked.
01:06:44So she was just filling me in what's going on, and she said it was a Mexican person that died.
01:06:52I was like, what?
01:06:53I was like, it's funny when she said that.
01:06:55I was like, well, I found a Mexican check in my house Friday.
01:06:59When I went inside their room, it was sitting on the floor.
01:07:02So I picked it up, and I looked at it.
01:07:04I'm like, I know for sure that nobody's in my household.
01:07:07So when Christian got back, I was like, well, whose checkup is this?
01:07:11Oh, I found it on the ground.
01:07:12I said, well, why would you be stupid to pick it up and bring it home?
01:07:15Yes.
01:07:15Just get rid of it.
01:07:17He said he tore it up, and he threw it away.
01:07:21Sunday passed.
01:07:22I found another check.
01:07:24And it's a credit card, too.
01:07:25So now that everything is added, I said, well, let me just let her know what's going on.
01:07:29You know what I'm saying?
01:07:31Yeah, yeah.
01:07:31I really appreciate it.
01:07:34I know it's hard.
01:07:35Pull forward.
01:07:36I should have done a time like this.
01:07:39Tristan?
01:07:40I don't know who Tristan was.
01:07:41We got him.
01:07:43This definitely looks like him.
01:07:46Dad looks like him.
01:07:48And look at that one, too.
01:07:50Oh, yeah.
01:07:51That's definitely Jesus.
01:07:53Which one is?
01:07:54That's definitely Jameson.
01:07:57He's the only one that, where is this third creature actor?
01:08:00She IDs the suspected shooter as her 18-year-old son, Jameson.
01:08:06Do you think Christian would be with him?
01:08:08Do you think he'd be one of the guys running in the video?
01:08:14I'm not sure.
01:08:17All right, I can call him if you need me, too.
01:08:19Yeah, you can ask him.
01:08:21No, I'm going to just be scared at one time because, I mean, I don't have the time to shake
01:08:25a cord or something.
01:08:26It ain't.
01:08:28I'm not sure.
01:08:29I'm going to ask you.
01:08:30Honestly, you got something to do with this Robert Ruta?
01:08:34Yeah, no.
01:08:35I've been able to like them, but it wasn't involved.
01:08:38How do you mean you've been with them?
01:08:40I ain't got it like you've been with them.
01:08:41So, you've been there when the Robert Ruta plays, too?
01:08:44Because the surveillance touches I'm looking at, I expect all three of them look like y'all.
01:08:48Jameson been there, too?
01:08:51I need you to answer my question.
01:08:53Was Jameson with y'all?
01:08:55Of course.
01:08:55Y'all knew what y'all did.
01:08:57When I found them checks and I asked about them checks, why y'all did what y'all did?
01:09:01Y'all, you know what somebody did?
01:09:02Jameson is not involved with it.
01:09:05You're not involved in it, but you've been there when the Robert Ruta was going on?
01:09:09You don't, you know, I'm going to speak on the phone, so would you like to come in and talk
01:09:12a question right now, because this is serious matters too hard.
01:09:18If you only did nothing, then why are you running?
01:09:24I ain't the person that you, you know.
01:09:27You know, he said Jameson was with him?
01:09:28Yes.
01:09:29He said, of course.
01:09:30Oh, is that what he said?
01:09:31I couldn't hear.
01:09:32Yeah.
01:09:32So, all three of my kids and...
01:09:34And the other one.
01:09:35Yeah.
01:09:36So, I don't know what else to do.
01:09:37No, you've done a lot.
01:09:38I appreciate you calling him and all that.
01:09:41And if you can convince him to come and meet with us at some point, not now, I mean, just,
01:09:45you know...
01:09:46No, he needed to come now.
01:09:47He knows that's why he hung up.
01:09:51I really appreciate it.
01:09:53No problem.
01:09:54I think that's about it.
01:09:55I know we have your number.
01:09:57As far as a victim, I know I'm probably not allowed to reach out to them, because they are
01:10:02and I can't do some things, but can I express myself specifically, you know, I do just apologize
01:10:07for it.
01:10:07I can't take it back, but, you know, it's just not right at the end of the day.
01:10:11Oh, gosh.
01:10:12They make their own choices.
01:10:15Okay?
01:10:16Don't put that on you.
01:10:20Yeah, of course you can't come back.
01:10:22It wasn't because of choices you made.
01:10:26I'm fine.
01:10:27I'm not here today.
01:10:28Okay.
01:10:29I'm trying to focus.
01:10:30Okay.
01:10:30But, uh, I'll reach out to see what I can do, and I'll let you know.
01:10:34I didn't go from there.
01:10:35It's fine.
01:10:36Thank you.
01:10:37No problem.
01:10:41She is so cooperative.
01:10:42She's an amazingly wonderful cooperative mother, and all three of her kids are involved.
01:10:47I feel horrible for her.
01:10:49She identified one in the middle, saying, that looks like Jameson, and then she called
01:10:54Christian on the phone, and he said he was there, and Jameson was there for the robbery.
01:10:59And on speaker?
01:11:01Yeah.
01:11:03They're in the wind, and she's going to try to call them and try to get them to come
01:11:07in.
01:11:08That made the case right there, helping us to, uh, bring justice to this family quicker
01:11:14than it would have been done if she hadn't come in and gave us that information.
01:11:17She was upset.
01:11:18She said that she wanted to appear in court just so she can see the victims and tell them
01:11:24how sorry she is that her sons did this.
01:11:28Our two outstanding defendants, I will send the warrants over to our marshal's task force,
01:11:34and they will start tracking them so we can locate them and safely effect an arrest on
01:11:38them.
01:11:49Eight days later.
01:11:51So it's going to be this brick house right here.
01:11:55The marshals track Christian and Jameson to a relative's house in Glen Terrace.
01:12:01We're surrounding the house, and we're going to try to get them out peacefully.
01:12:05Let's swap on standby just in case.
01:12:11I know you're inside.
01:12:14I know you're inside.
01:12:15You need to knock the door, so if you're hands up, we won't have to go around.
01:12:34Negotiations are in progress right now, and we're standing by.
01:12:38We know they're armed.
01:12:39We know they're dangerous, so we just want to take all precautions to make sure the citizens
01:12:43nearby don't get hurt, nor any officers, nor them.
01:12:49Ready.
01:12:51As the team approaches the house, the brothers flee out the back.
01:13:2320-year-old Christian Bryant is taken into custody.
01:13:28You good?
01:13:29You good?
01:13:32But the suspected shooter, Jameson Bryant, is nowhere to be found.
01:13:37The SWAT did not locate him in the house.
01:13:39They slipped out.
01:13:40It's still a win.
01:13:41It's still a win in the book.
01:13:43Three down, one to go.
01:13:52Christian Bryant, I know you know what you're out here in reference to.
01:13:58I want to get your side of the story of what happened.
01:14:00All I can say is I don't want to lose no switch.
01:14:02I haven't seen those games.
01:14:03Listen, I've known this job for a long time.
01:14:05I get it.
01:14:06Accidents happen.
01:14:06Bad s*** happens all the f***ing time.
01:14:08It's hard to f***ing talk about because it's f***ing, but you can't get over the facts
01:14:13of the case.
01:14:14Right, right.
01:14:15We have video of the incident.
01:14:17We have video of leaving the apartment.
01:14:18The facts are what they are.
01:14:20This is your chance to tell me what happened.
01:14:37So what happened?
01:14:38How did it go down?
01:14:40I guess they saw a couple of guys and then when everything just happened too fast for
01:14:45me.
01:14:45So I was in the back with no clue just going along with the s***.
01:14:48And then once everything happened, I guess I run with them.
01:14:51Okay.
01:14:52How many people have firearms that have with you?
01:14:54The only one that I know of.
01:14:57Okay.
01:14:57And is that Jameson?
01:15:04Okay.
01:15:07So, so you did not have a firearm?
01:15:09No, I'm not.
01:15:09I promise you, no.
01:15:10Did Kobe have a firearm?
01:15:12Not that I'm aware of, no.
01:15:13Did Tristan have a firearm?
01:15:14Yeah, I'm sure no.
01:15:15So I'll say this.
01:15:16All evidence is pointing to Jameson as the one that had the gun.
01:15:18I'm not saying that you're saying that, but all evidence is showing me that.
01:15:23Right.
01:15:24And when are the shots fired?
01:15:26I guess when we were leaving and he heard someone was chasing us.
01:15:31I never looked back.
01:15:31I didn't know that it was the gunfire on the side of my head.
01:15:35So you're fleeing and you hear a gun touch as y'all are running away?
01:15:38Yeah.
01:15:42You know bullets don't have names, right?
01:15:45I understand you did not shoot, but yeah, bullets don't have names.
01:15:50Let me ask you something.
01:15:51Why did they come in here prior to?
01:15:54Once they had murder, I was like, I don't think I must have trust myself.
01:15:57I'm going to die.
01:16:01I'm going to die.
01:16:02All right.
01:16:02We may have to go ahead and just get you transported over to County.
01:16:05Okay?
01:16:11He confirmed that his brother Jameson is the one that had the gun and basically told us
01:16:16a story of what happened and it matches up exactly with the scene and what the victim said
01:16:22happened.
01:16:24So that really helps.
01:16:26It really turns the case from a circumstantial case to a really strong case.
01:16:29All right.
01:16:33Christian, you can stand it up.
01:16:35You are being charged with murder.
01:16:40No, you're not doing it.
01:16:41Christian.
01:16:44How old are you, bro?
01:16:4620, right?
01:16:47Look at me.
01:16:50No, you're not.
01:17:05He's definitely has some remorse.
01:17:07He's said several times, like, he's going to kill himself when he gets to jail because
01:17:12his life is over.
01:17:14So, like, with that, we'll let the jail know and he'll be on suicide watch.
01:17:17You can see that he does understand the foolishness, for lack of a better term, of what they did.
01:17:27The next step would be, obviously, get Jameson in custody and, ideally, would get a confession
01:17:33from him as well.
01:17:44Six weeks later.
01:17:45The marshal's gone.
01:17:46They zeroed in on the location in Greenville and then got him.
01:17:51Jameson Bryant, he is the fourth suspect, I believe, to be the shooter.
01:17:55They caught him in Greenville, South Carolina.
01:17:57It's about a three-hour drive away from here.
01:18:01That's a good song.
01:18:06You need some water?
01:18:08Yeah.
01:18:08Sweetie?
01:18:09I love that sweetie.
01:18:11We have a bunch of fries, though.
01:18:13You know, French fries?
01:18:14Yeah, two, some of them.
01:18:14French fries?
01:18:15All right.
01:18:15I appreciate them.
01:18:24All right.
01:18:29You say anything or anything?
01:18:31I mean, I didn't ask him a whole lot because I didn't want to get going.
01:18:33He knows the marshals told him what his charges were, so he knows his murder, and he come
01:18:38out of the cell in Greenville singing and rapping.
01:18:42I told him we were coming back, and he was like, okay.
01:18:46All right.
01:18:46Let me go in there.
01:18:50It's pretty cold-hearted.
01:18:52Put the gun in his head.
01:18:53Pulled the trigger and didn't go off.
01:18:54Did jam.
01:18:55Yeah.
01:18:56Yeah.
01:18:59I'm talking to you about an incident that happened on the 25th of April.
01:19:03Basically, we know what happened.
01:19:05I'm just trying to get your side of the story.
01:19:06And mainly the question is, were you just there, or did you actually fire any shots?
01:19:12That's all what I really wanted to know.
01:19:14You've been there at all.
01:19:17See, that's the problem.
01:19:18I'm telling you, you're there.
01:19:23What I want to know is, were you just there?
01:19:27With these guys, and a shot was fired, was it intentional or an accident?
01:19:34Tell me, that seemed like an accident.
01:19:36You're like, hmm.
01:19:41What happens when you're in the trailer park?
01:19:44What happens, from your point of view?
01:20:01Who started running?
01:20:03The three you're with?
01:20:05Yeah.
01:20:05What are you hearing?
01:20:06Tell me what you're, what's going on.
01:20:11Someone in your group start screaming?
01:20:13Uh-uh, somebody else.
01:20:14I don't know who.
01:20:15I haven't really fully aware what the f*** is going on.
01:20:20Everybody just been in one line when we were running.
01:20:23And then while we were here, well, all I heard was gunshots.
01:20:26I don't know where you come from.
01:20:28I know none of us discharged the fire.
01:20:34None of y'all are discharging the firearm, right?
01:20:36Uh-uh.
01:20:36But these are you, you, right?
01:20:39Right.
01:20:41These are you going in the park, and these are your group running out, right?
01:20:45Correct?
01:20:46Yes.
01:20:46I got you.
01:20:48Look, the next image is your group firing gunshots.
01:20:54I ain't showing you.
01:20:55And the reason being, you've been lying this entire time right now.
01:20:58I'm not going to play this game.
01:21:00This b****, like I heard a scream, someone else is shooting.
01:21:02The camera don't lie.
01:21:03The shots are being fired from your group.
01:21:06Now, I don't know if you're being chased, if it's justified.
01:21:08I don't know anything like that.
01:21:10You can only tell that story.
01:21:14Straight up.
01:21:16I don't know.
01:21:21Give me an opportunity to be honest.
01:21:24I know that you were there.
01:21:26I know you were there with this group of guys.
01:21:28I know shots were fired from your group.
01:21:30This is your frickin' life.
01:21:32So this is your chance, and I want you to be honest.
01:21:36Can you do that?
01:21:39No.
01:21:39No.
01:21:40No.
01:21:40No.
01:21:41No.
01:21:41No.
01:21:41I got you.
01:22:13¿Y si tú?
01:22:20¿Trelador Park?
01:22:25¿Qué dudes?
01:22:30¿Te pusieron a tres dudes?
01:22:32¿Qué pasa con los tres de nosotros?
01:22:34¿Y si vamos a pasar a cerraro con este?
01:22:38¿I didn't know?
01:22:43No, no, no, no, no.
01:23:09It's you.
01:23:10That's not a debate.
01:23:11I just want to know, did you intend to hit anybody?
01:23:15No.
01:23:16So was this an accident?
01:23:19So what happened?
01:23:20Why did you fire the shots then?
01:23:26It went off?
01:23:28So it went off one time, two times?
01:23:31How many times?
01:23:32Two times.
01:23:32Two times.
01:23:34So it was an accident when you stumbled and you fired twice.
01:23:39Why did you fire the other two shots?
01:23:42Yeah, there's two more.
01:23:44I fired four shots total.
01:23:46We had four shellfish.
01:23:47You stumbled and fired twice.
01:23:48Why did you fire the other two?
01:24:02You know one of your bullets?
01:24:03Do you know where it went?
01:24:05It went through a trailer, and there is a Mexican guy sleeping in a bed.
01:24:11It went through his head.
01:24:13Damn.
01:24:15So your bullet killed somebody.
01:24:36You gave him to a junkie?
01:24:37Yeah, he gave me what, like, $200 for that.
01:24:43All right, let me step out for a moment.
01:24:44We'll be right back, all right?
01:24:49There we go.
01:24:50Yeah, it went well.
01:24:52I think realizing that it wasn't a debate, that I had a lot of evidence, he knew he had something
01:24:57on him, so he might as well just tell his story.
01:24:59He's the shooter.
01:25:00All four of them were going to rob these guys.
01:25:02And during the course of the robbery, he fired shots, which ended up killing an innocent
01:25:07person.
01:25:08Those actions led to him being charged with murder and the other three members of the group
01:25:14being charged with murder, instead of just armed robbery.
01:25:29Who was this?
01:25:29Who was this?
01:26:08This was an act that should have never happened.
01:26:10And now one mother has three of her sons in jail for murder, and the other mother has her
01:26:17son gone forever.
01:26:19But I'm thankful that the mother of the suspect stepped forward and did the right thing.
01:26:23That's unique.
01:26:24And I'm thankful.
01:26:26And I know the family must be thankful towards her for stepping up and doing that, even at
01:26:31the cost of her kids.
01:26:58And I don't think that's when I was in jail.
01:27:03I saw her.
01:27:05I'm not a man.
01:27:12I saw her.
01:27:14I saw her.
01:27:18I saw her.
01:27:21Sí, he loved being an uncle.
01:27:25My kids were never without a candy or a lollipop or something
01:27:29because Uncle Bocho bought it.
01:27:32He was a great guy.
01:27:34Anything we needed, he was always willing to help.
01:27:52No tengo palabras.
01:27:54¿Todos los días reprenden su vela?
01:27:57Todos los días.
01:28:00Estamos tristes.
01:28:20Hace tiempo, me he cerrado, me siento completamente todo perdido.
01:28:31Él era mi compañero.
01:28:35Y, pues, bueno, se fue y, pues, he comprado también que hay que salir adelante.
01:28:46Y, pues, lo extrañamos y lo extrañamos bastante.
01:28:51We always talk about him.
01:28:54Always the good stuff.
01:28:57Keep his memory alive.
01:28:59Gracias por ver el video.
