00:00Yeah!
00:03I'm going to get so drunk to mixing all these alcohols.
00:07This drink is margarita.
00:09Help me as the worst.
00:11Hey Vogue, it's Dewey Leeper.
00:12And today I'm going to be making some cocktails
00:14inspired by some of my favorite songs.
00:20All right, let's get started with the first one.
00:22This drink is a dirty vodka martini,
00:24which is inspired by Sade's Smooth Operator.
00:27I prefer having my dirty martinis with no vermouth,
00:31so I'm just going to do the vodka and the olive juice.
00:35I picked Smooth Operator because I feel like when a martini is good,
00:39it just hits, it's smooth, it's delicious,
00:41and listening to Sade at the same time
00:43feels like the perfect moment.
00:45Some olive juice here.
00:47Pop that in.
00:49My parents love Sade,
00:50and so I really listen to Sade because of them,
00:52and I'm just such a fan.
00:54Like the Love Deluxe record is one of my favorite records of all time,
00:59and she's a British icon.
01:05So I'm going to double strain this so I don't get any ice chips.
01:09I think that's just preference.
01:13Olives to garnish.
01:17Perfect.
01:18This next drink is a special take on a white Russian,
01:22which is inspired by my song, Houdini.
01:24The good thing about this is everything happens in the glass.
01:27Less washing up.
01:29More fun.
01:30Too much ice.
01:32Vanilla vodka.
01:35Houdini came out in November 2023.
01:38It was the first single from my third album,
01:42Radical Optimism.
01:43I love that song.
01:44It makes me want to dance at any time of day.
01:48I'm going to put a bit of Kahlua.
01:49Then I'm going to add just a little dash of Sambuca,
01:54just to give it a little funky little taste,
01:58which I love.
02:00Sambuca shots, not my thing.
02:02They remind me of a terrible time in the club.
02:07But like this mixed in together, it's quite nice.
02:10My special ingredient is my Nespresso capsule.
02:14And now we wait.
02:15I can do a little da, da, da, da, da.
02:18My hair's just like too perfect right now for me to be doing any hair flips.
02:22So I'm just going to not do any sudden movements.
02:25My God, everything's shaking.
02:27I thought ahead of the curve a little bit when thinking about this.
02:30So I actually chilled one.
02:31It's much nicer when you wait for it to cool down for the cocktail.
02:36So here's my chilled espresso shot.
02:40I'll give it another mix.
02:43Okay.
02:44And now for my favorite bit, the cold foam.
02:46I'm going to pop all of the creamer into the shaker.
02:51One ice cube because you don't want to water it down.
02:56Give it a shake.
02:58Oh shit.
02:59I'm like so nervous.
03:00It's going to open up.
03:03I think we're good here.
03:09Oh my God.
03:10That's my favorite part.
03:13Heyo.
03:16Well, I just had lots of cream.
03:20So I don't think I actually got the Nespresso bit.
03:23I know it's quite thick, the cream.
03:25It's supposed to make like beautiful marbling.
03:32That's delicious.
03:33We got me hammered at the end of this.
03:35Song two.
03:37So far, I'm killing it.
03:40I paired the White Russian with my song Houdini because I felt like it's all the energy you need in
03:45a day.
03:46When you play Houdini, I feel like it makes you want to dance.
03:48When you drink a little bit of White Russian, all you want to do is dance.
03:51It felt like the perfect merging of worlds.
03:55Does anyone want to try this?
03:56You do?
03:58Come on then.
03:59Oh my God.
04:00Isn't it good?
04:01Yeah.
04:02This next drink is a highball inspired by my dear friend Elton Johnson, Benny and the Jets.
04:10I love this drink for many reasons.
04:11One, because it's quick and easy and it's delicious.
04:14And the reason why I decided to pair it with Benny and the Jets is because I had this drink
04:21at the Dodgers Stadium
04:23when I was watching Elton do his show there the night before I performed with him.
04:29And he started off the show with Benny and the Jets and nothing gave me more chills than that moment.
04:36The piano stabs in the beginning of that song are like etched in my brain forever.
04:42So I'm just going to put some whiskey.
04:45I like to mix it a little bit with the ice so the ice melts a little into the whiskey.
04:49Elton is somebody who I've loved since I was very little.
04:53So it's also very, very surreal to call in my friend and see him and hang out with him and
05:00at the same time work with him and admire him so, so deeply.
05:04I actually performed for Elton's Foundation, which supports research and prevention of AIDS.
05:14And this was during lockdown and we performed together and we actually sang Benny and the Jets because he was
05:19like,
05:20you pick a song of mine and we'll sing it together and I'll pick a song of yours and we'll
05:23do that together.
05:24So we did Love Again from my second album, Future Nostalgia, and then we did Benny and the Jets.
05:29It was just one of the most incredible moments of my life.
05:32And we had such a great time performing together.
05:35And then I got a phone call from David and Elton.
05:39It was like, it was a FaceTime and I was by the pool in a bikini and they were like,
05:45can we just call you for a second?
05:46I was like, yeah, sure.
05:48And they were like, oh, we have the song.
05:50We think it'd be perfect if we do this together.
05:53I was like a hundred percent.
05:54Yes.
05:54Yes.
05:54And I heard Cold Heart in its, I guess, baby form.
05:59And I was like, a hundred percent.
06:01Yes.
06:01This is like such a massive dream come true.
06:03I'm also just going to add a little bit of lemon rind in there for extra gorgeousness.
06:08And that's all it needs.
06:13Every time.
06:14It just hits.
06:15Elton just has the most incredible style and always has had such a unique and very authentic and true to
06:22himself.
06:23You know, the big glasses and the feathers and flared trousers and everything was bright and bold and colorful.
06:29And every time that I performed with him, I just wanted to be at my very, very best.
06:33I always dress up for Elton.
06:35Okay.
06:35So this next cocktail is a Paloma, which is inspired by Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics.
06:41Very recently I went to a friend's birthday party and I was drinking lots of martinis.
06:47And there came a point in the night where I was like, okay, I need to like change it up
06:51a little bit and do something a bit fruity.
06:52I went for the Paloma and I feel like, like a Paloma, Sweet Dreams the song gives you a second
06:59wind during the night.
07:01I feel like the second you hear Sweet Dreams, you're ready to party all over again.
07:06See, I either forget the ice or do it the wrong way around.
07:10So what I'm actually going to do first with my glass is put some lime juice on the side of
07:17it.
07:17Okay.
07:18So a bit of lime for my salt rim.
07:21I only like to do half of that so you don't get a salty taste every time you take a
07:27sip.
07:29Sweet dreams are made of this.
07:33Who am I to disagree?
07:36Traveled the world and the seven seas.
07:40Everybody's looking for something.
07:44Okay.
07:45Tiny bit of agave.
07:47I don't love this to be too, too, too sweet.
07:49Because I feel like the grapefruit soda does the trick.
07:57I think this is just like, it's a perfect drink for any time.
08:02You can be on a beach.
08:04You can be having dinner.
08:05You can be out dancing.
08:07I think it's just perfect.
08:11Oh my God.
08:12I'm going to get so drunk to mixing all these alcohols and...
08:19That's really good.
08:20For me, the best work-life balance, I guess just because I...
08:23I don't know.
08:24Every day I feel like I do what I love so much.
08:27So it never feels like work.
08:28I know that sounds cliche.
08:30Wherever I am, whatever I'm doing, I make sure that I make the most of it.
08:33You know, if I have a tiny bit of time off, I'm like, okay, I finish work at 9pm.
08:38I'm going to go and have a drink somewhere or go and have a nice dinner.
08:42Whatever it is that makes me feel a little bit closer to a city, like that's just so important to
08:47me.
08:47This next drink is a basil smash inspired by Britney Spears' Toxic.
08:53Every summer, my family and I, we do a festival in Kosovo.
08:57And there's a guy who makes amazing cocktails and he was adamant one year.
09:01He was like, I have to make you this drink. I have to make you this drink.
09:03And he made me a basil smash and that became the soundtrack basically to my night.
09:10Gin, lemon juice, a bit of simple syrup.
09:13You're very excited, silly and giggly and fun.
09:15And I need to hear Toxic at the end of every single night when I'm feeling like that.
09:20It's one of my favorite songs.
09:22I think it's one of the greatest pop songs ever made.
09:27It makes me feel nostalgic, but also at the same time, if it came out yesterday, it would be an
09:31absolute smash.
09:32It's a basil smash. There we go. I just love it. I love it. I love it. I love it
09:37so much.
09:37I only put a little bit of simple syrup, lots of basil.
09:41Of course, I remember the music video, but the bit that stays in my mind that I remember so well
09:47is Britney in a stewardess outfit.
09:51And I don't think anyone has ever been able to make a stewardess outfit look so good.
09:56I love Britney so much. I love everything about her, all her songs. She's such an icon.
10:01Oh, shit. Okay. Well, we live to tell the tale.
10:09If this drink had a warning label, it would say, beware too much fun.
10:14Oh, I'm going to double strain it because we don't want to get little basil pieces in our teeth.
10:20Britney would hate that. I forget the ice for the millionth time.
10:27We'll garnish it with a little bit of basil. But honestly, this is perfect.
10:35Who wants to try it? Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
10:39All right. This is my dad, my drinking partner.
10:44It's amazing. Yeah.
10:47And she won the Grammy for best dance recording for that song.
10:50So cheers to that. But I can't cheers because my dad took my drink.
10:54Okay. So this drink is frozen inspired by Madonna's.
10:58Margarita, help me as the word. Bye.
11:03This drink is a margarita inspired by Madonna's frozen.
11:07First step is...
11:11Hello. I'm going to just juice the slime a little bit and put it all over the rim.
11:19Well, not all over it, just maybe half of it because I think cuter like that.
11:23And I will salt.
11:26I've paired Frozen by Madonna with a margarita because a margarita is an absolute classic
11:31and Frozen by Madonna is an absolute classic.
11:34I just absolutely love the Ray of Light album.
11:38It's definitely one of the top five albums for me.
11:42I think there's something just absolutely timeless about the song and timeless about a margarita.
11:47So in my drink, I'm going to put some tequila.
11:55Oh, let me just grab some triple sec, some Contreux.
12:03I am and have always been such a massive fan of Madonna.
12:09And so when it came to making the Club Future Nostalgia record, I immediately wanted to reach out and see
12:18if Madonna wanted to work with me on that record.
12:21It was very special because I had two of my favorite artists join me on that, which is Missy Elliott
12:26and Madonna.
12:27It was just a very beautiful, but also a very unique experience because it was in the middle of Covid
12:32and lockdown.
12:33And so we couldn't be together in the studio.
12:35So we were all just talking on the phone nonstop, trying to make it happen.
12:39For me to even hear my songs reimagined by two absolute icons was a massive dream.
12:47And working with Madonna was amazing.
12:50You know, even just receiving voice notes from Madonna.
12:54I was like, this is the most surreal thing of my life.
12:57It was a beautiful experience.
13:08Oh, horrible.
13:10You know what? I'm not going to double strain this one.
13:13I'm going to do this.
13:14I don't think there's many, many ice chips in that one.
13:18And put a lime to make it gorgeous.
13:21The thing that I admire the most about Madonna is her constant reinvention.
13:25I find that so inspiring and so amazing and the way that she's been able to just evolve and grow.
13:34And I mean, she's just inspired a whole generation of artists, not just, I can't just say just young women.
13:39I feel like artists all over the world.
13:41I admire her the most for that.
13:47This is delicious.
13:49Madonna's music brings people together.
13:51Just like music is a universal language.
13:52I think a good night out when you bump into random people and you're a little bit tipsy and drunk
13:58and you have a good conversation and a good drink.
14:01And like, that's where the magic really happens.
14:03I think that's where you really create unique and special moments.
14:06And if anything, you go home with a good story.
14:17Okay, that's it.
14:19Those are my six favorite cocktails with my six favorite songs.
14:22I had so much fun doing this.
14:24I'm a little bit tipsy.
14:25I think we should make a playlist.
14:27You should try this at home.
14:29See ya.
14:30And they were like, do you want water?
14:31And I was like, no, I'll be fine.
14:33Oh, for fuck's sake.
14:34Shut up.
14:35Yeah, my love of Houdini.
