00:00Can one of our three contestants take control of this cold-hearted contraption?
00:04Who will conquer the counters and collect the cash?
00:06I'm Todd Woodbridge, let's find out on Tipping Point.
00:30Welcome everybody to Tipping Point, where these three contestants are ready to take on the machine.
00:35So, let's meet them.
00:36I'm Simon, a management consultant and former semi-pro downhill ski racer from Hampton.
00:41If I win the jackpot today, I'm hoping to take my one-year-old daughter on her first ski trip.
00:45Hi, I'm Dan, I'm a food truck operator from Maidstone, and if I win the jackpot today,
00:49I'd like to go to Japan and check out some more Pokemon.
00:52Hi, I'm Kaylin, I'm an e-commerce coordinator from Sydney, and if I win, I'd like to make
00:56back the 5k I've spent on the 14 concerts I went to in the last year.
01:00Hang on a minute.
01:02Kaylin, 5k on concerts this year or like?
01:04Oh, give or take, I'd say, yeah.
01:06Who have you been to see and favourite?
01:08I've seen a lot.
01:10I feel like it's like naming a favourite child.
01:12I've loved every single one.
01:14Well, good luck today.
01:15Hope you go well.
01:16Daniel, tell us about the food truck.
01:17Name what you're selling.
01:18Well, we do a donut truck in Belgrave near the Puffing Billy.
01:21Oh, yes.
01:22And that's our winter job.
01:23Then we flip it and pivot in the summer and we do ice creams.
01:26And big event type work.
01:28Fantastic.
01:29We've got a fish and chip truck, which we call Chippy Chippy Bang Bang.
01:31Yeah.
01:33Well, Daniel, good luck to you today.
01:35Simon, I'm very keen to hear about the semi-pro skiing career.
01:38Tell us about it.
01:39Yeah, so all through my childhood and early adulthood, myself and my sister who's in the
01:43audience tonight, we both sort of represented Australia in downhill ski racing.
01:46So spent our summers over in Canada and North America and then our winters up at the
01:52local mountains here.
01:53So I didn't actually see an Australian summer until I was about 21, I think.
01:57So, yes.
01:58Well, I know you're settled now.
02:00You're going to take your one-year-old, that's Molly.
02:02Molly, yes.
02:02If you can win some dollars today to the snow.
02:04I'd love to.
02:05I learnt when I was less than two.
02:06So I think it's a perfect time for her to strap on some skis.
02:09Get them out there early as possible.
02:10Exactly.
02:10All right.
02:11Well, good luck to you, Simon.
02:12Thanks, mate.
02:12Hope it goes well for you today.
02:13If you three are ready, let's play round one, bank builder.
02:20Okay.
02:21Now, in round one, it's your chance to build your bank.
02:25Every counter that you push over the tipping point, we'll put $100 into that bank.
02:29In this round, you'll each play with three counters, and if you buzz in and answer correctly,
02:33you can choose to play one of your counters into the machine,
02:36or you could ask one of your opponents to play one of theirs instead.
02:39If you answer incorrectly or don't answer within three seconds,
02:43we'll have to take a counter away from you.
02:45In the machine, you'll see the two double counters.
02:47Push those over to double the value of your drop, along with the mystery counters.
02:51If you can push those over, you'll be going home with an excellent prize.
02:55Hands on buzzers, we are set to go.
02:57Here is the first question.
02:58What modern term for a badly behaved bride-to-be was inspired by a giant Japanese movie monster?
03:09Now, the decision to make whether to play first, Kaelin.
03:12I might give it a go.
03:13All right.
03:15What drop zone do you fancy?
03:18Four, please.
03:19Light up drop zone four.
03:20Here we go.
03:21Is the machine feeling generous?
03:26Wow.
03:27That flew out.
03:29It landed hard, but if it hangs on to that other black one, it'll be good.
03:35Oh, please.
03:36Oh, have a look at that double already.
03:38Ah!
03:40How exciting.
03:42One in, two out.
03:43And you'll have $200 to put into the machine.
03:46So it goes in and then we transfer that into your bank.
03:50And a nice steady start.
03:52Moving on to our second question.
03:54Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk is the opening line to which hit Bee Gees
03:59song.
03:59Simon.
04:00Staying alive?
04:01Yes, it is, Simon.
04:02Yeah.
04:04I'll play.
04:05Let's go drop zone two.
04:07Light up drop zone two.
04:17Oh, my God.
04:19Squeezing into the middle.
04:20No, you get something off.
04:21Good job.
04:24Oh!
04:27That was three for you, Simon.
04:30So you'll get $300 and we'll put that into your bank.
04:34And you've got a one-counter lead over Kaelin.
04:36On to the next question.
04:38What shelled garden mollusk's name is an anagram of nails?
04:43Daniel.
04:44Snail.
04:44That's correct.
04:45Nice work.
04:49What are you going to do, Daniel?
04:50Number four, please.
04:51Okay.
04:51Let's light it up.
04:52Drop zone four.
04:53That double's got an angle on it.
04:55It's ready to come down.
04:56It just needs a little tap, that double.
05:03Ooh.
05:05Let's see.
05:06We shall see.
05:08Oh, no.
05:17No, it started with two, went to three.
05:20And now, Daniel, you've got four.
05:21You've got the lead now.
05:23400 goes up and into the machine.
05:25We'll take it from there.
05:25Put that into your bank.
05:27And nice tight game.
05:29Everybody has used a counter.
05:31And here comes your next question.
05:33According to legend, which heroic British king was mortally wounded in the Battle of Camlyn?
05:38Daniel.
05:39King Arthur.
05:40That was King Arthur.
05:41Good job.
05:43Okay.
05:44I'm going to mix it up a little bit, Todd.
05:46And I'm going to go drop zone two.
05:48Okay.
05:48Back to two.
05:49That's the other zone that we've already used.
05:51Yep.
05:55Bang!
05:57Stabs itself down into the top shelf.
06:02Oh, nice.
06:05Nice.
06:05Like that spread.
06:07Oh!
06:07Oh!
06:08Oh!
06:09Oh!
06:09Oh!
06:10Yes!
06:13What have you got for me, Todd?
06:16Nine just laid themselves out perfectly in that wind zone, including the mystery.
06:20$900.
06:21That's a big drop.
06:22Let's take it from the machine, add it to the $400.
06:25You've got $1,300 with one counter left to play.
06:29Wow.
06:30But Daniel, with that mystery, thanks to Stanley, you've won a Home Essentials Toolkit powered
06:35by V20 Tools so you can do more and tackle every project with confidence valued at over $1,800.
06:43Amazing.
06:45That's fantastic.
06:46Thank you so much.
06:47A little bit of work you can do on the van, on the road, you know?
06:50Absolutely, yeah.
06:50That sounds very handy.
06:52Nice job there.
06:53That gave you a 10-counter lead over Simon as we move on to our next question.
06:58One of the world's most active volcanoes, Kilauea, is located in which US state?
07:04Daniel?
07:05Hawaii.
07:06Correct.
07:06Good work.
07:09It was stuck in my mouth.
07:11I couldn't say it.
07:13What does he do?
07:14Let's try something new, Todd, and light up drops land three, please.
07:16First time, okay.
07:25They're banging down today, aren't they?
07:27Aggressive drops.
07:37Two more.
07:38Snuck another couple in there, Daniel.
07:40Good stuff.
07:41200 will be added in and at the end of your bank builder round, you can sit back quite confidently
07:46with $1,500.
07:48Well played.
07:50So you're out and you sit back to see what Simon and Kaelin can do.
07:54At the moment, Simon, you've got a one-counter lead over Kaelin, both of you with two counters
07:59left to play.
08:00Here's your next question.
08:01Which British Prime Minister delivered the famous,
08:04we shall fight on the beaches speech?
08:07Simon?
08:08Uh, Churchill.
08:08Correct.
08:09In 1940, Winston Churchill.
08:12Let's light up.
08:14Drop zone one, Todd.
08:15First time we've been there, so we've completed the quartet.
08:25Come on.
08:26What will it get you?
08:28Come on.
08:28Oh, my.
08:29No.
08:30Lift over.
08:31Oh.
08:31Very lucky.
08:36Better than nothing, two snuck over for you.
08:38So I'll put $200 up and Simon, you'll have $500 once it's moved into your bank.
08:43Ten behind Daniel.
08:45On to the next question.
08:46Rhyming with slipper is what informal term meaning captain?
08:51Simon?
08:52Skipper.
08:52Yes, of course it is.
08:53One or three?
09:00Three, Todd.
09:01Okay.
09:02Drop zone three.
09:08Nice.
09:09Yeah.
09:09That's a good position.
09:10Right in the middle of the pile that's on the edge of the tipping point.
09:13Simon?
09:14Get over.
09:15Oh, yeah.
09:15Yes.
09:21Good drop.
09:21Beautiful.
09:22Good drop zone choice.
09:24Good positioning of the counter.
09:25And you closed the gap a bit.
09:27That was seven.
09:28So, $700.
09:29Perfect.
09:31Take that.
09:32Take it from the machine.
09:32Put that into the bank.
09:33And at the end of your round, Simon, you've got $1,200.
09:36Just three behind Daniel.
09:38So, Kaylin, you've got a bit of work to do.
09:40Ten behind Simon now.
09:41You've got the final two questions.
09:43Yeah.
09:44No need to buzz in.
09:45Do need to give me an answer.
09:46And you've got three seconds.
09:47So, good luck.
09:48Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett starred in the long-running British sketch show, The Two What?
09:55No idea.
09:58You want to have a go, Daniel?
10:00Mum and David brought me up on this one.
10:01Yeah.
10:01The two Ronnies.
10:02The two Ronnies.
10:03Yeah.
10:04Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett.
10:05Who are they?
10:05Just a different era, Kaylin.
10:07Yeah, I'm 25.
10:08Yeah.
10:09They're on YouTube.
10:10You can have a look.
10:11I will now.
10:12Yeah, they'll be there.
10:13They're quite funny, in fact, but understandable that you didn't know it.
10:16It means I've got to take your counter away from you, though, unfortunately.
10:19Good luck.
10:20And let's hope we can get one in your era.
10:22Final question of the round for you.
10:24Which sportswear company designed the Swift suit that Cathy Freeman raced in at the Sydney Olympics?
10:31Nike?
10:32Yes, it was Nike.
10:33I was a wee baby.
10:38Fantastic.
10:39Right, good one.
10:40Well done.
10:41I'll play number one.
10:42Number one it is.
10:43Light her up.
10:44Hang on.
10:52Oh, what?
10:55What can he get off the top?
10:58Yep.
10:59Oh.
11:04Two more.
11:05A little unlucky not to take the corner out with it.
11:08So let's take the 200, put that in the bank, and at the end of our bank builder round,
11:14Simon's got 1,200, Daniel the lead with 1,500, and Kaylin with 400.
11:19Quickfire is going to be very important for you, which is the round that's coming up right after this break.
11:36Welcome back everyone to Tipping Point.
11:38Simon, Daniel and Kaylin.
11:39One of you will go on to play for $20,000 to find out who survives through to the next
11:44round.
11:44Let's play Quickfire.
11:50Okay, in Quickfire, you each have 30 seconds to answer as many questions as possible.
11:55For every correct answer, I'll give you a counter to play into the machine.
11:58And the contestant with the lowest score at the end of this round though, unfortunately, we say goodbye to.
12:03But Daniel, you've got the lead by three at the moment over Simon, so that gives you the option of
12:08playing first in this round if you'd like to.
12:09I'm all or nothing, Todd. Let's go.
12:11All or nothing, okay.
12:14So let's put 30 seconds on the clock, and if you're ready, your time starts now.

12:45The cycling term Velodrome is borrowed directly from what language?
12:48Italian.
12:49French.
12:49Oh no!
12:53Daniel, I've got to say I wasn't expecting that, so that means you've got nothing to put in,
12:59nothing to put into your bank, but you still have the lead with $1,500.
13:04So Simon, it's just the three-counter difference if you're ready to play, but up to you.
13:09Yeah, there's a few looking likely to maybe drop if I get a few answers right, so I'll play.
13:14Okay, so you can get yourself some candles.
13:16Good luck to you.

13:52Well done.
13:55Well done, Simon.
13:57A couple of pauses there that had me worried,
13:59but seconds were going by, but three is solid.
14:02So, what do you need?
14:03Three to tie, Daniel.
14:04Four to get yourself guaranteed to go through.
14:07Let's go one.
14:08Drop zone one.
14:08Let's go back there.
14:18That might wrap itself around to the right, but it should get something off.
14:22There it goes.
14:23Nice.
14:25Spreads out too.
14:31Three came over, so we'll put 300 in the machine.
14:34We keep it there, and Simon, you've got yourself tied now.
14:37Now where?
14:39I'm going to go one again.
14:40Okay, back two, one again.
14:57You've done a bit of building.
14:58Do you go and try to clean it up?
14:59May as well.
15:00I'll stick with one.
15:01Okay.
15:01Third time.
15:02Last counter to go in for Simon.
15:09Ooh.
15:13Ooh.
15:15Ooh.
15:17Oh, this is good.
15:20Good.
15:23Oh, teetering.
15:24Third ring.
15:25Third ring.
15:25It was four more.
15:26I was thinking everything was going to come from the left.
15:28It came from the right.
15:29But in the end, you've still got 700 that we can transfer into the bank, Simon.
15:32And you're safe.
15:331,900.
15:35And from three counters behind to four counters in front.
15:38So, Kaelin, all down to you now.
15:4111 it is that you need to find.
15:44Yeah.
15:44Come on, Kaelin.
15:45You're going to need as many counters as you can, Kaelin.
15:48So, good luck to you.
15:4930 seconds goes on the clock.

16:23Mouth.
16:24Mouth.
16:24A payment.
16:26Well done.
16:29But, that was four.
16:31Really?
16:32Well done.
16:33So, 11 counters is what you need to find.
16:36Where can you manufacture across that tipping point?
16:39There's a few gaps.
16:41One, since Simon did hard yard.
16:50Oh.
16:51Oh.
16:53Oh.
16:53Okay.
16:54What is this?
16:54It might, this might go to the left.
16:56There it goes.
16:57Oh.
17:00Bit of a gap there.
17:03Oh.
17:04Squeezes into the gap.
17:05It's tough.
17:07I might go one again.
17:09Keep it going.
17:09Go back to one.
17:10Light it up.
17:17Whoa.
17:18Oh.
17:19How about.
17:20How did it get all the way over there?
17:21In between one and two.
17:24Oh.
17:26Well, I'm in two now.
17:31So, you actually did take a few out of two.
17:34So, it was three.
17:35So, we'll put that up.
17:36And you've still got two more counters to play.
17:39And now you're eight behind.
17:41I might keep it with one, please.
17:43Back to one again.
17:46Looks like it'll fall.
17:53Oh.
17:53Oh, it keeps going this side.
17:54That's okay.
17:55You'll get a couple of silvers off, I think.
17:58Oh, no.
17:59Just tucks in behind.
18:02Well.
18:03Tough.
18:03Come on.
18:04Can you find eight to tie with this final counter, Kaylin?
18:07One again, please.
18:09God.
18:10He's gone back there.
18:11Please.
18:11Hasn't been very kind to you.
18:17Oh.
18:18Just smashes in again.
18:25Oh.
18:31Don't think it's going to be enough.
18:33I don't think it'll be enough.
18:35With good effort.
18:35You needed eight.
18:36And in the end, it was just five.
18:39It will give you $800 in the machine.
18:42We'll take it out of there and we'll put that into your bank.
18:44And at the end of our quick-fire round, Simon found the lead with $1,900.
18:49Daniel, you hung in there with your $1,500.
18:52And Kaylin, unfortunately, we found your tipping point.
18:57Kaylin, good luck getting to more gigs.
18:59And more importantly, you're wearing a very beautiful ring on your finger.
19:02Why don't you just put it out there like that and show us?
19:05How long ago did you get engaged?
19:07A month ago.
19:08A month ago.
19:09Well, good luck with the wedding.
19:12Sorry we couldn't get you any more money to go towards that.
19:15But it's been wonderful having you on the show.
19:17That's all right.
19:17Good luck with it all.
19:18Simon and Daniel, get set, fellas, because you two are about to go head to head in the
19:22next round.
19:23Which one of you two will go on to play for the $20,000?
19:26We'll find out right after the break.
19:40We've got another good game on our hands.
19:42Welcome back, everyone.
19:43Simon, our management consultant's taking on Daniel, our food truck operator, in our head
19:47to head.
19:48Before we get there, though, we need to find a little bit more out about the career that
19:52you had in snow skiing, Simon.
19:54The semi-pro, did that mean that tough to make money, never quite got going, unsure?
19:59What was it?
20:00Yeah, it's one of those sports, Todd, that if you're not in the top probably 30 in the
20:04world, it's very hard to make money in, and obviously skiing's an expensive sport once
20:09you pay for all the equipment, travel and lift tickets and the such.
20:12So, yes, decided to take the, you know, uni and corporate path rather than trying to keep
20:17going with the skiing.
20:18But it was an amazing experience.
20:19And what about injuries?
20:20Because it's a dangerous sport.
20:22I was pretty lucky.
20:23A couple of concussions, which so far, so good.
20:26But my sister, who's here today, she did her ACL pretty badly, unfortunately, so.
20:30You've got your sister and your wife.
20:31Yeah, so my sister, Elise, and my wife, Emily, around there.
20:35So, a couple of ACLs, you know, that's all.
20:38Yeah, I did it once and I did it really well.
20:40Yeah, you got it over with.
20:41And that was the end of my career.
20:43I tried to get back into it and, you know, I wasn't able to, but it was amazing anyway.
20:48Yeah.
20:48And what about you, Emily?
20:49How did you guys meet?
20:50Was it on the slopes?
20:51Was it over a whiskey, you know, in front of the fire, or?
20:54No, I married into skiing.
20:56Yeah.
20:57And I'm really petrified of it.
20:59Yeah, fair enough.
21:00All right, well, let's see whether you can hang on to your lead.
21:02At the moment, it's four counters.
21:04And Daniel, you've got some family with you today.
21:07Yep.
21:07Your foster son.
21:08Yes.
21:08Why don't you introduce him?
21:09Yep, I've got Jason over here in the...
21:11Hello, Jason.
21:12Nice pink jacket.
21:14And my sister, Jackie.
21:16Hi, guys, great to have you on the show.
21:18And Daniel, we're talking about accidents and things.
21:21You've had one that was quite brutal.
21:23Yeah, a bit all or nothing, Todd.
21:25Tell us about that.
21:26My partner John and I went flying down to Geelong to see our close family friends.
21:30And upon arrival, my nephew said,
21:33Oh, Dan, let's go for a ride on the motorbikes.
21:35Like, hell yeah, I've been hanging out to do this.
21:37And two minutes later, I was laying on the ground with my foot in a shoe over there,
21:43not attached to my leg, which was stuck in the ground over here.
21:46And so now I've got a fairly permanent leg brace.
21:50Oh, yeah, not a good accident.
21:52No, I mean, how did you handle that mentally?
21:54Because I know you had a good mate, Robbie, that helped you with that.
21:56It was a pretty hard time, but Robbie came an amputee through gangrene,
22:00and he took up a fairly interesting sport in sport pistol.
22:03Uh-huh.
22:04And as soon as he heard about my accident, he was like,
22:07Come with me.
22:07Come with me. I'm going to show you how to do this.
22:09And you've gone well at it straight away.
22:10Done pretty good. I've made the state team, and I've came fourth at nationals this year.
22:14Yeah, and the ultimate goal?
22:17It's a big one. It's a big one, Todd, but I'm a firm believer in big, hairy goals.
22:20I want to go to the Paralympics, because I've been classified because of my leg,
22:24and a few other health issues, so I can actually become a Paralympic shooter.
22:27We'd love to see you to LA on Nine's Wide World of Sports.
22:31So let's get to it. Here we go. Head to head.
22:38Alright, in this round, you each have two questions.
22:40If you answer your question correctly, you get the counter to play in the machine.
22:43If you get it wrong, your opponent steals it.
22:45And if you're unsure of your question, you can pass it.
22:49Simon, you have the lead. That means you're going to get the first question.
22:52And if you're ready, here it is.
22:55Which 2000s US TV show was adapted from the Colombian telenovela
23:00Yo Soy Betty La Fea? Pass or play?
23:04Spanish is not my forte, so I think I might pass this one.
23:11What do you think, Daniel? I'm thinking a couple of things.
23:13That last word again, the vella was called, Todd?
23:16Yo Soy Betty La Fea.
23:19I am Betty La Fea.
23:21I'm just going to say I am Betty, because I haven't got a better answer.
23:24OK. Is it I am Betty?
23:29It's Ugly Betty.
23:30Ah, Ugly Betty.
23:31Remember Ugly Betty?
23:32Yeah.
23:33Do you remember her, Simon?
23:34No.
23:35No, I can't say I've come across her.
23:36Well, that means that, Simon, you get that counter to play.
23:39So you've got your question, your counter.
23:41Where are you off to?
23:42Three.
23:43Three.
23:44Job zone three.
23:45Light up job zone three.
23:54Oh, that moved a lot.
23:58Three.
23:58Three.
23:59Three.
23:59Oh, no.
24:02Hey!
24:04Hey!
24:05Hey!
24:05Hey!
24:05Come on.
24:06Wow.
24:06There's a few gaps sitting on the bottom shelf.
24:08It's going to be interesting how to find some more counters.
24:11So, Daniel, one of those gaps was filled, potentially, for you.
24:15Here's your first question.
24:16Hit me.
24:17What Christian Dior perfume shares its name with a Frank Herbert sci-fi book series?
24:23Pass or play?
24:24If I could think of a Frank Herbert sci-fi series, I would give this a crack, but nothing
24:31comes to mind, so I'm going to handball it to Simon.
24:34See how we go.
24:36Uh, I'm in the same boat as you.
24:38Hello.
24:39Simon, have you...
24:39Perfume and sci-fi.
24:41I was going to say, have you, you know, bought Emily any decent perfume?
24:44Perfume lately.
24:45Oh, of course.
24:47Yes, Todd.
24:48Um...
24:48Any Christian Dior versions?
24:51That's slightly out of my price range, I think, but I'll say moon landing.
24:58There's a moon landing.
25:00That famous perfume.
25:03No.
25:04It's called Dune.
25:06Dune, of course.
25:07Dune.
25:07Oh, my God.
25:08I sort of knew that.
25:09Yeah.
25:10Well, you didn't have to.
25:11Because...
25:12Simon didn't know it.
25:13So you've got your counter for the difference, Daniel.
25:16Oh, wow.
25:18Two.
25:19Two.
25:19Two.
25:20Two.
25:21Everyone's yelling at me saying drop zone two, Todd, so light it up, please.
25:24Okay, light her up.
25:35There's a gap in front of it.
25:37That's my only concern.
25:40Oh.
25:40Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
25:45Oh, there's some counters on the edge there.
25:48There certainly is.
25:48No money exchanges hands in the first two questions, but have a look at the tipping point.
25:52It is ready to go.
25:54We'll find out who gets that first opportunity right after the break.
26:10Drama building here between Simon and Daniel.
26:13Nobody was able to get a counter over the tipping point in the first two questions, but it is now
26:18loaded.
26:19Simon, the next question's yours.
26:22Which TV legend was the host of popular 70s Australian game show Blankety Blanks?
26:29Pass or play?
26:30I have an inkling, but I'm not 100% sure, so I'm going to pass this one, Todd.
26:39Wow, I knew you were going to do that to me.
26:41I don't think this is right, but I've got to say something, so I'm going to go with Burt Newton.
26:45You heard of him, Simon.
26:47I have.
26:47Yeah.
26:48Icon.
26:48Was it Burt Newton who hosted Blankety Blanks?
26:54It's close.
26:55Graham Kennedy.
26:56It was Graham Kennedy.
26:58Right, yes.
26:58That's the name I was thinking of.
26:59Yeah.
27:00Was that who you were thinking of, Simon?
27:01Yeah, it actually was.
27:01I was thinking John Kennedy, but I knew it wasn't John.
27:04John was in my head too, yeah.
27:06Yeah.
27:07Alright, two of the biggest names ever in Australian television.
27:10I mean, Simon, you've got your shot at that tipping point again.
27:13Where are you off to?
27:14Two, two, two, two, two.
27:17Two.
27:17Light it up, job zone two.
27:20Come on.
27:25Oh, it's a good looking drop.
27:30Get up.
27:32Oh, what a heck.
27:33Oh, pardon.
27:35No.
27:36Oh, oh.
27:37Come on.
27:38You smashed it.
27:39It's done.
27:39And here comes more.
27:44Oh, it's not done yet.
27:46Oh.
27:49Well, four, but I can't believe more didn't come.
27:53It's $400.
27:54It will extend to eight counters for you, Simon.
28:00$2,300 plays $1,500.
28:04Right, Daniel, you need this counter.
28:06Sure do.
28:07Any which way you can.
28:09The final question.
28:11Paraguay shares a border with Bolivia, Argentina and which other country?
28:17Pass or play?
28:18I don't want to pass it because I feel like our pro sportsman might have done a bit of travel.
28:25They might know this one.
28:26Not really great with geography, Todd, but I think it could be Spain.
28:32Simon, what would you have said?
28:33I'm not 100% sure.
28:34I would have maybe guessed Brazil.
28:36Big country.
28:37I think Paraguay might be somewhere in the middle and maybe Brazil.
28:40I think I've lost it.
28:41But no certainty.
28:43I'm in the wrong.
28:44You're in the wrong.
28:46Continent.
28:49Is it Spain?
28:53No.
28:54And it was Brazil.
28:55It was Brazil.
28:56So well played by Simon.
28:58Unfortunate for you, Daniel.
29:00But Simon, here goes $2,300 and you can start making more.
29:03Back to two.
29:04Two again, Cod.
29:06Light up Job Zone 2.
29:07Good luck, mate.
29:14Come on.
29:15Get these.
29:15Get these.
29:16Tower over.
29:18Oh, that's not bad.
29:23It just speeds out the centre.
29:26Well done.
29:28In the end, Daniel, you might not have been able to get eight anyway by the looks of that
29:32drop.
29:32But Simon, you got yourself another $300 to add into your account.
29:36It will go into our machine.
29:37We'll put it into the bank.
29:38And that will mean, at the end of our head-to-head, Simon, you are safe.
29:44And Daniel, it means, unfortunately, we've found your tipping point.
29:47Thanks, Todd.
29:50Good job.
29:51Light on.
29:51But, Daniel, don't have a fear.
29:53Yes.
29:53You're not going home empty-handed.
29:55No.
29:55You're going home with a toolkit, which is valued at $1,800.
29:58I really, really hope that I get the opportunity to be watching and, who knows, maybe even
30:04interviewing you at the Paralympics in LA.
30:06That would be amazing.
30:06Thank you, Todd.
30:07Good luck with it all.
30:08Thank you very much.
30:10And, Simon, congratulations to you.
30:12You're playing for the jackpot counter.
30:14It's worth $20,000.
30:15Woo!
30:16And we're hoping that Molly gets to watch this episode and that she gets to Canada
30:20because that's what you're after right here.
30:23Stick around and see whether that can happen right here on Tipping Points.
30:38It's been a really good game.
30:40Great competitive spirit.
30:41Simon, you've got yourself $2,600.
30:44We've still got an opportunity to make $20.
30:47Before we do it, though, you said you mainly skied in the US and Canada, but did you get
30:52to any places in Europe or South America as we had that in the last question?
30:55Never skied in Europe or South America, actually.
30:58Really?
30:59Yeah.
30:59So Whistler we based ourselves out of in Canada, but sort of travelled all around, mostly
31:03the sort of Northwest part of North America in Australia and New Zealand more times than
31:08I can count.
31:09And Emily, how did it all come together?
31:11We met at work.
31:13Yeah.
31:13So I did elaborate.
31:15That's why you didn't give me much.
31:16Yeah.
31:17What made him so special for you?
31:18We were best friends for about four years before we started dating and I finally gave
31:24in.
31:25We were a bit of a work husband and wife.
31:27We had like a hot desking arrangement so we didn't have our set desk.
31:30We could sit wherever we wanted and we always tend to sit next to each other and we're
31:33very good friends.
31:34Mm.
31:35Mm.
31:35Slowly things.
31:36Yeah.
31:37Watch out for hot desking everybody.
31:40It gets a little bit more than desking.
31:43Righty-o then.
31:44You ready to find the 20,000?
31:46Let's do it.
31:47Let's play the jackpot round.
31:52It's time now to put that jackpot counter in the machine.
31:55Push it back out.
31:55There's your 20,000.
31:57Unless, it's probably a little unlikely, but you could hang onto that double and drop zone
32:01one, but there is that mystery in drop zone three.
32:05But what are you going to think about?
32:07Yeah.
32:09I'm thinking one.
32:10They're lined up nicely on top of one.
32:12There is another double but it's at the bottom and it's well hit and then drop zone
32:15I'm a bit worried about all the riders on three and four there.
32:18It's pretty stacked up.
32:19It is.
32:19I'm thinking one, I might be able to hug the wall, maybe get the double if I'm very lucky
32:24and it's not too congested so I'll go one.
32:26Give it a go.
32:27Sounds good.
32:27Good luck.
32:28Here we go.
32:32Good timing required here.
32:40Okay.
32:42It's not a rider.
32:43No, it's all good.
32:44It's all good.
32:46Every counter worth a hundred all through this round no matter when it's all.
32:50And that gives us just one more.
32:53So we'll start this round with $2,700 and let's go to the categories.
32:58The five you're going to play today Simon are these.
33:02Human body, music, sport, food and drink and pop culture.
33:06You can play for one, two or three counters the more you play the harder that question
33:10will be.
33:10What are you going to do?
33:11Let's go top to bottom.
33:13I'm going three all the way.
33:14All the way.
33:14So I won't ask you that again.
33:16That's locked in.
33:17Lock it in.
33:17Top to bottom.
33:19Human body for three.
33:21Good luck.
33:21Here we go.
33:23What is the fleshy protuberance that dangles from the middle of the soft palate at the
33:29back of the mouth?
33:31Is it the uvula, tonsil or adenoid?
33:34Not 100% sure.
33:36I've had tonsillitis a few times as a kid so I know they're back there somewhere.
33:40I'm going to lock in tonsil.
33:41Okay.
33:42The fleshy protuberance that dangles from the middle of the soft palate.
33:47Is that a tonsil?
33:51Uvula.
33:52Uvula.
33:53Yeah.
33:53Bad luck.
33:54Okay.
33:54Not the start that we were after.
33:56So, we're going to head on back down the board.
33:59Music's next.
34:00We're playing for three.
34:01We need to get a start here.
34:03Come on, Simon.
34:06A 90s hit for which band contains the lyric,
34:09I scream from the top of my lungs, what's going on?
34:13Is it Blink 182?
34:15Four non-blondes or the B-52s?
34:18I know this song.
34:19I'm not going to sing it on national TV.
34:22I'm a big Blink 182 fan.
34:24I know it's not them.
34:26B-52s, I think, are pre-90s.
34:28So, let's go four non-blondes.
34:30Okay.
34:30Light up four non-blondes.
34:32I think you worked through that quite well by the sound of it,
34:34but is it correct?
34:38Yes.
34:39Come on.
34:39Right.
34:40Here we go.
34:41We're in the gates.
34:43We're ready to make our way down the mountain.
34:45So, light up a drop zone one.
34:52Come on.
34:53Ah.
34:55Sticks its landing, doesn't move at all.
34:58So, come on.
34:59Give us a bit of cash early here.
35:01Just clean out the rest that's there.
35:05That was two.
35:06Almost to $3,000.
35:08$2,900.
35:10And we'll put in our second counter.
35:12Light it up again.
35:18Oh, same spot.
35:20Come on.
35:20Identical drop.
35:22That's where I wanted the jackpot counter.
35:23Yeah.
35:24That's right.
35:26Okay.
35:27This is going to shuffle that double forward.
35:29Yeah.
35:31Two more.
35:32That'll give you $3,100.
35:37Let's see whether we can get a little bit more luck and get it over to that centre-right.
35:41Third time lucky, hopefully.
35:42Light it up.
35:49That's a one.
35:51Here we go.
35:52Come on.
35:52Don't tuck in.
35:53No, don't go.
35:55Yeah.
35:56It's alright.
35:56Nice work.
35:57Nice work.
36:04Take it.
36:06A wave of counters crashing over drop zone one.
36:09Six in total.
36:10That'll give you $3,700.
36:13And so, pretty good with those three.
36:16Another three, and hopefully we can get it down onto the bottom shelf.
36:19Let's go back to our categories.
36:21Sport is next, so we know we've locked in three all the way.
36:25Here's the question.
36:27What is the name of a dressage movement in equestrian riding?
36:32Is it surface stride, table trot, or counter canter?
36:37Oh, man.
36:39Outside of watching equestrian for two minutes at the Olympics every four years when there's
36:44nothing else on.
36:48Way to offend all those equestrian people.
36:51Sorry.
36:52Um...
36:53I mean, I would...
36:54Pun...
36:55Uh, table trot.
36:56Light up.
36:57Table trot.
36:58The name of a dressage movement in equestrian riding...
37:01Is it table trot?
37:06It's a counter canter, is what it is.
37:10So, not ideal.
37:12We have to go back to our categories.
37:13Two to go.
37:14We're gonna need all six of these counters.
37:16So, food and drink.
37:18Let's hone in on this one.
37:19APPLAUSE
37:20A speciality from Brittany in France.
37:24Quinamont is often dubbed the fattiest.
37:27What in all of Europe?
37:30Cheese, pastry, or casserole?
37:33It could be any of them, to be honest.
37:35I...
37:35Obviously, cheese and pastry, both quite French.
37:38Pastry's maybe a little bit broad.
37:40Um, I'll light up cheese.
37:43I'm gonna light up cheese and we'll find out
37:47what is the fattiest in all of Europe
37:51right after the break.
37:54APPLAUSE
38:05Welcome back, everyone, to Tipping Point Simon.
38:073,700 in your bank.
38:09We need counters.
38:10Before the break, I'll ask you a speciality from Brittany.
38:13In France, Quinamont is often dubbed the fattiest.
38:17What in all of Europe?
38:19We know cheese is fatty, right?
38:21He said, light that up.
38:22Fingers crossed.
38:27It's pastry.
38:28Far out.
38:29It's pastry.
38:30It's kind of like croissant-y looking
38:32with all cream and stuff in the middle.
38:35It's pretty good.
38:36It sounds good, but...
38:37I'm never eating it.
38:38No.
38:39No.
38:41OK.
38:41If we can get this last question correct and get three,
38:44you can still be in a position to be able to get this 20,000,
38:48if not with those three, but definitely with Temptation.
38:50So, pop culture.
38:53This is the one we need.
38:55Right, Simon.
38:59Based on a character from Spider-Man comics,
39:02what is the name of a 2024 film starring Dakota Johnson?
39:07Black Widow, Spider-Girl, or Madame Web?
39:10Madame Web, I feel like I saw movie trailers for her
39:14in the last year or so, so let's light up Madame Web.
39:18OK, light up Madame Web.
39:20We need this.
39:21Is it Madame Web?
39:25Yes!
39:28All right.
39:30Needed that.
39:31So, what we need is that centre-right hit
39:34to get it down onto the bottom shelf.
39:36Yep.
39:37Let's try to do that with the first one.
39:39Let's light her up.
39:39Drop zone one.
39:40Here we go.
39:41Come on, everyone.
39:49Not that way.
39:52Not that way, Simon.
39:56Yeah.
39:57Well, give us some money at least.
39:58Give us some money.
40:00Ah.
40:01Ah.
40:01Tease us all the way.
40:03All right.
40:03Light it up again.
40:06Come on.
40:07Come on.
40:07We're going to get down.
40:11Ah.
40:12Come on.
40:13It's going to go into the next row.
40:17Oh.
40:19It's going to make it interesting.
40:21It's going to get your money.
40:22Go on, sit backwards and give us some more, perhaps.
40:27Here we go.
40:28Come on, come on, come on.
40:31No.
40:34Two more.
40:35$3,900.
40:38Right.
40:39Let's get it down here so that we can go into temptation,
40:41feeling a little better about ourselves.
40:44This one here.
40:45Yeah.
40:50That's the one.
40:52Hopefully that gets it down.
40:54Come on.
40:54All the way down.
40:55All the way down.
40:57Flip over.
40:59Yep.
41:00There we go.
41:05Oh, now I'm going to be tempted.
41:06Yeah.
41:07One more, which gives you, at the end of your jackpot round,
41:11$4,000.
41:13Role play.
41:14And the machine teased us all the way to that final drop
41:18to get that jackpot onto the bottom shelf,
41:21which has given us a very good opportunity
41:23to go into jackpot temptation.
41:30Now you're on the bottom shelf.
41:31Now you've got to contemplate whether you would give up
41:33that $4,000 for the opportunity to get the jackpot counter over.
41:38That double's still hanging on, and you never know.
41:40Two in the right place just might take it with it,
41:42and it could be $40,000.
41:44How about this?
41:44I'm going to offer you four counters.
41:46I'm going to keep the value at $20,000, though.
41:49But, could you use this?
41:54Would a new car come in handy?
41:57Whoa!
41:59Redefining elegance and sportiness,
42:00this Kia K4 is an award-winning small sedan
42:04valued at $32,990,
42:07and could be yours, thanks to Kia.
42:10What do you think?
42:12Have a look at that.
42:15Emily, could you see yourself driving one of those?
42:18Yeah, I mean, it'd be nice.
42:21While you two contemplate a new car, $20,000,
42:25we're headed to the newsroom.
42:29Okay, before we went to the newsroom, Simon,
42:31you weren't expecting this offer.
42:33Four counters for $20,000 and a Kia K4
42:37valued at $32,990.
42:41What?
42:41Is it a final offer?
42:45Simon, I've put a car on your podium.
42:47I'm just worried that there's not a lot on the top row for me
42:50to sort of push over.
42:51That's my concern.
42:52What if I said,
42:54as much as I know you like the car,
42:56I took it back,
42:57but I gave you one more counter for $20,000.
43:01I think...
43:01You reckon you want to do it?
43:03I think we...
43:03Now we might be talking to that.
43:06Play?
43:08All right, I'm going to play.
43:10I'm going to put the key back in my pocket.
43:13I'll save that for another day.
43:16So $4,000 is gone.
43:18Take it away.
43:20And we've got five chances to see if we can get this jackpot counter over the tipping point.
43:25Are you ready, everyone?
43:26Wish you the best of luck.
43:27Here we go.
43:28Light it up.
43:29Drop zone one.
43:30Come on, Simon.
43:32Coming down the slope.
43:40What's it going to do?
43:41Might just push over.
43:43Lines.
43:44They're kind of close the gap.
43:45Now anything in the right spot is going to come home for you.
43:48So we've got four more chances.
43:49Let's put the second counter in.
43:57That's it.
43:58Ah.
44:00Spun past where we needed it to.
44:02Missed its gate, didn't it?
44:03Yes.
44:03Yeah.
44:05Come on.
44:06It's a bit of a lateral.
44:07Push, push, push, push, push.
44:10Not quite enough.
44:11Right.
44:12We've got three more.
44:13Let's get the next one in.
44:14Light it up.
44:15Come on.
44:15We've got to get this one all the way into the front.
44:21Oh, they're all around it.
44:23They're right of it.
44:25They're left of it.
44:26Come on.
44:27Come on.
44:27Ah.
44:29Two more to go.
44:31Gonna need a miracle from here.
44:32Light it up.
44:39Come on.
44:41Get over.
44:42Come on now.
44:43Come on.
44:44Do the right thing.
44:45Come on.
44:48Push it.
44:49Push it.
44:53One thing you did well was negotiate from four to five.
44:56Well played by you.
44:57This is the last chance.
44:59It has to hit the same spot.
45:00If it does, it looks like 20,000 could be yours, Simon.
45:04Light her up.
45:06Come on.
45:10Come on.
45:11Come on.
45:13Oh!
45:14Simon.
45:15It's close.
45:16It's close.
45:17It's close.
45:18It's close.
45:19Come on.
45:19Get over.
45:20Yes.
45:21Flip, flip, flip.
45:23Sit backwards.
45:24Sit back.
45:25No!
45:28Oh!
45:28Oh, no!
45:30You crashed before the finish line.
45:34Oh, man.
45:35I thought I had it for a second.
45:36I thought you had it too.
45:38Unfortunately.
45:39I hate saying this.
45:40You're going home empty handed.
45:41You took the gamble.
45:42You played it beautifully.
45:43And luck was not on your side.
45:46Thanks for being with us today.
45:47Thanks, Simon.
45:48Oh!
45:48Thanks for watching it.
45:49Thanks to our audience.
45:50And I don't know.
45:52I'm a bit debo about that.
45:53I'm sure you are at home.
45:54And thanks for watching.
45:55Join us next time when three new contestants push their luck to the very edge of the tipping
