00:01Strong Slate, right?
00:02Strong Slate, y'all like that?
00:04I am Nathan Mitchell.
00:06I'm Colby Minifee.
00:07I'm Karl Urban.
00:08I'm Jack Quaid.
00:09Laz Alonzo.
00:10I'm Trace Crawford.
00:11I'm Erin Moriarty.
00:12What's up, Jessie T. Usher?
00:14That was cool.
00:15Hi, I'm Karen Fukuhara.
00:17And these are the biggest moments from The Boys Season 4.
00:23Vought on Ice.
00:31Oh god, that day, that was amazing.
00:33I mean, we actually got to watch them perform all of that.
00:37So Laz and I, we were shooting a thing that was kind of next to the ring.
00:41And oh my god, every part of it was just spectacular.
00:45I think our favorite part was, this is the donkey.
00:49There's a donkey in there, and it's like two guys in a donkey costume.
00:53And there's something about the expression the donkey has that just made me laugh every time.
00:57Like, we have to give our flowers to Michael Ground for that whole, the costumes in that were amazing.
01:04And the donkey costume took like weeks and weeks to make.
01:06And the day before they went to go shoot all of that, they found, they were like, where's the donkey
01:12costume?
01:12And it had been put in the dumpster.
01:14What?
01:15How dare they?
01:16And they had to dig it out of the dumpster, and they were able to like get, but it was
01:19like chaos.
01:20There was something that had happened where a mistake was made.
01:23Like, Michael Ground worked his ass off.
01:26And he does every single episode.
01:28And it's okay to whoever put it in the dumpster.
01:30It's fine.
01:31It's not okay.
01:35How many times do you think you have been saved at this point?
01:38I don't know.
01:39I think I've been saved, yeah, countless times, including by you.
01:43But I don't know, I guess I opened that up to the group countless times.
01:46What do you think?
01:4747.
01:48Eight episodes per season.
01:50Four seasons so far.
01:5330.
01:5436.
01:54I like how we're mapping this out.
01:5632, 36.
01:57Yeah.
01:58Okay, I'll go with 36.
01:59And I think the person who saved me truly the most was Annie January.
02:02Aww.
02:03Isn't there an episode called You Saved Me about each other?
02:07Yeah.
02:07But it's mutual saving.
02:08I've saved as well.
02:10I'm sure I have saved.
02:11No, you've saved.
02:12You've saved.
02:13You're a saver.
02:14You've saved me.
02:15Couldn't save Robin.
02:16Oh!
02:18Okay, all right.
02:19We thought A-Train was making a face turn.
02:21We thought he was a good guy now.
02:23How does it?
02:24Drop your ass.
02:25You know what I mean?
02:26Body bad.
02:27A-Train made a turn.
02:28A-Train made a turn, not Jessie.
02:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:31Seriously, Jessie's still a savage.
02:36Homelander fires Ashley Barrett.
02:40Ashley, you can go.
02:42Sorry, sir.
02:42This is a meeting of the seven.
02:43You're not a member.
02:45But I'm always here.
02:46I-
02:46Well, Sage is going to take over your workload.
02:48For all intents and purposes, she's the new CEO.
02:54Am I getting fired?
02:55This was a really big moment for Ashley, especially because she just loves having power and she likes doing something
03:01with that power.
03:02I think it makes her feel like she's actually there for a reason.
03:05And so when Homelander says you are no longer the head of Vaught, you're just basically a puppet and a
03:11mascot for us, I think she's absolutely devastated because I do think she takes a lot of pride in the
03:16work that she does.
03:17And in that moment, that was a really fun scene to shoot because I was trying to do a lotsy
03:22with like dropping all these folders and I had a flame dress that was designed perfectly by Michael Ground.
03:28And I dropped my folders and my heel kept getting caught in the fold of the dress and I couldn't
03:34stand up after dropping the folders and so I just ended up crawling out of the room.
03:37It's a blooper that didn't make it into the blooper reel and I'm actually really sad about it.
03:42I know I needed to see it. I wanted to see it.
03:45But it was really fun.
03:46Ashley is a character that you play her so well. She's so complicated in the sense that like she is
03:51part of this horrible evil corporation and propaganda machine and yet I fear for your safety on a daily basis.
03:58So I don't know that scene, it was kind of a perfect encapsulation of that. And I think you play
04:02her so beautifully in terms of like, oh, I root for you and I hate you.
04:06I'm gonna sit my swollen clit on your stupid masked face and piss like a skunk. And I just had
04:14asparagus. You want that?
04:18Yes?
04:18Yes!
04:20Do I think Ashley feels like she can actually control anything?
04:23Yes, everybody below her. Everybody that works for her. Whoever she is participating in a BDSM dungeon experience with. That's
04:36what she can control. Yeah. That's why she does that.
04:40Did any of you guess right what Ashley's power became?
04:44No.
04:46No way.
04:47Not at all.
04:47And it's fantastic.
04:49Ashley's power.
04:50I didn't even guess it right.
04:51Yeah.
04:52I studied performing arts at Godoken. I did Cirque du Valde in Montreal. You didn't hire me to stand around
04:57like a fucking oak tree.
04:58What do you need?
04:58Some direction. Look, I'm on an island here. Okay, I have questions, but I'm not allowed to speak. Like, Noir
05:04lives in a ninja dojo apartment. But best I can tell, he didn't know karate. I need some intentionality here.
05:10Is there like a playlist I can use to get me inside his head?
05:12What was on Black Noir's playlist? I would say a little, a little, what did you say?
05:18Rainfall.
05:19White noise.
05:20White noise.
05:21White noise.
05:21White noise.
05:23Yeah. I would say, say a little Backstreet Boys.
05:27Ooh.
05:27Yes.
05:28Wow.
05:29Not Nathan's playlist. Black Noir's playlist.
05:32Oh.
05:32Okay. Well, that's a different style. Classical music. He loves classical music. I think Noir has a very innocent mind.
05:39You know, you might imagine like death metal or something.
05:42Like that. But I think it is like a good amount of pop music. Like, it's gonna be me. Like,
05:47imagine like him just killing someone with that playing in his head.
05:52Is this Noir? And what about Noir 2?
05:55Noir 2. Yeah.
05:56Right? There's Noir and there's Noir 2. Yeah. He'd be listening to like a Shakespeare podcast.
06:01A-Train's Redemption.
06:14What are you doing? Wait, are you? You're the leak?
06:20Did he just talk?
06:22Bro. It was you, bro.
06:24The one thing that I think I was the most thankful for on our show in terms of, you know,
06:30the writing was the fact that they took the time to give him an opportunity to make like an actual
06:37turn.
06:38He didn't just wake up one day and just started being a different person. We saw the moments happen that
06:43sort of changed the way that he thought and who he cared about and what was, you know, important to
06:48him. His perspective changed in real time. I was very thankful that I got a chance to play that all
06:54the way through.
07:03Why'd you do that?
07:06A-Train got to save me this season. Truly, truly wonderful. I was in a harness and Jesse, he was
07:13just in Jesse's arms like we're in the bodyguard or something. It was amazing.
07:17Side story about that. One of my favorite moments from that season is when we were in the alleyway and
07:21I had you in my arms.
07:22Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. And we had a like a looky-loo from the window, then the apartment's
07:27above us. Yeah. And they look down.
07:29They're filming. Yeah, yeah, filming. And then they see us see them and run back and I'm holding Jack like
07:34this and he looks at me and goes, well, that's a spoiler.
07:38Yeah, definitely. I'm just cradling him. He's like, well, I guess that's out.
07:45Yeah. A-Train's really made up his turn. I feel very comfortable here.
07:49But yeah, you know, he starts off in a very bad place. And a lot of people tell me all
07:53the time that they hated him in the very beginning.
07:56And I love that. You know, I love that. You're supposed to, right? You're supposed to hate him.
08:01And the fact that now, you know, he has people who are rooting for him, cheering for him, begging, please
08:06don't kill A-Train.
08:07You know, like, wow, because season one, they're like, this guy's got to go.
08:11Deep, just FYI, I have always, always fucking hated your ass.
08:19You dodged A-Train's punch.
08:21I forget the story.
08:22The internet went into a frenzy. They were like, how is the Deep fast enough to dodge A-Train's?
08:28Oh, yeah. Impossible. In the flat iron.
08:30In the flat iron. In the flat iron. Yes, yes, yes.
08:32Yeah, they're like, A-Train, you know what I mean? He's dodging stuff. And then, like, all of a sudden,
08:37he throws a full force punch and Deep just goes, oof.
08:41My thing was, like, maybe A-Train was really savoring it. He's like, oof, this is going to be so
08:46good.
08:46He's like, oh, I should have just punched regular.
08:48It's not just talking to fish now, is it?
08:50Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. Maybe the Deep is the fastest man on earth, yeah.
09:02I don't think anyone else has ever thought about, like, going for the gills. I give that to Annie.
09:07I don't think anyone else has thought about just, like, except with a sexual context when it's, like, really intentional.
09:18Because you have a sexual encounter with your gills, right?
09:20Oh, yeah. If I'm not mistaken. Yeah.
09:22In all of your suits, there's, like, armor here, right? So you'd think there would be padding here.
09:28You'd think. But, you know. That's his vulnerability.
09:32They're like the balls of your torso.
09:33I remember season one, we were, I remember being in the hair and makeup trailer and there was just, like,
09:38Chase's gills were just loose in the trailer.
09:41I accidentally fingered his gills. Accidentally?
09:44And they were disgusting. No one accidentally fingered his gills.
09:47They never cleaned him out. They would put lube in him.
09:51It was disgusting. Nasty.
09:55Noir will be back up here in no time, so let's go.
09:58He's right fucking there. Let's do it.
09:59Do you know how, Butcher?
10:01Because I don't. But Noir sure as hell is going to know how to fucking kill us.
10:05Now come the fuck on.
10:06Season four was actually a really tough season to play because he's always had a job to do. And that
10:14was partially, you know, to execute Butcher's plan and also partially to talk him off the ledge to keep him
10:21from going overboard.
10:22And that season they kind of went their separate ways.
10:25It was definitely a different dynamic in our group in the very first half of the season to play with
10:31just the four of us instead of the five.
10:33He was kind of, you were kind of solo in the beginning of season four until he finally comes back
10:38at the end and we're, we're a team again, at least briefly.
10:42The deep kills Ambrosius.
10:45She doesn't respect you.
10:47She doesn't respect me.
10:49Wake up, Kevin.
10:50She's using you.
10:52You shut the fuck up.
10:53You're driving away from a woman who's in your cafe.
10:57Kevin. Kevin.
10:58Come back. Please, Kevin. Please.
11:02Sweet girl.
11:02I killed her.
11:04Yeah. Yeah.
11:05What did she do to me?
11:07What did she do to me?
11:09No, no. I mean, that was a blast.
11:11I loved it. I think, you know, when Kripke kind of was like, have you seen my octopus teacher? And
11:15I was like, I have. And, you know, he was like, didn't it seem like that guy was trying to
11:19fuck her? Like the octopus? And I was like.
11:22It's like, well, when you put it that way, I go, I'm scared for my storyline. And he's like, no,
11:28this is his like mistress. Like he's like kind of ashamed, but also the only person he can really connect
11:35with like emotionally. And then I'm like reading, you know, poetry to an octopus in bed. It was, it was
11:40wonderful. It was wonderful. Yeah.
11:42Yeah.
11:42The dark bottom jellyfish glow. Like frothouse lava lamps. I can swim you anywhere. To seven seas. One big light
11:51road.
11:52Jesus, Kevin, you really have the soul of a poet.
11:55I still haven't met her. No, no. And I would hope that she would remember me when I do meet
12:02her. No, but I didn't know until I went in for ADR, like a year later, like doing ADR for
12:07the scene.
12:08You want to hear who it is? And I was like, yeah, it was incredible. She made the scene really,
12:13to be honest. So much funnier with her in it as Ambrosia.
12:18Butcher finds out Joe Kessler's truth.
12:22No one ever said nothing about genocide.
12:24What the fuck's that supposed to me? You're me.
12:26You got a big old fat V-dub brain tumor, you cunt, which is why you are seeing me in
12:31the first place. I am you.
12:34And I really enjoyed crossing that threshold where Butcher discovers that it's all been in his mind and just exactly
12:42how sick he is and what the stakes are for him actually losing control of his humanity.
12:47I did know it was coming. It was, you know, as a lot of things in the boys, it was
12:51a conversation that happened well before the commencement of photography for season four.
12:59It was a challenge to shoot the whole season Butcher Kessler moments because I'd have to act the scene out
13:05with Jeffrey Dean there and everybody and then they would take Jeffrey Dean out.
13:10And so I had to redo the scene, but with no Jeffrey Dean there and do it sort of for
13:15continuity. Just do it all exactly the same.
13:17I was kind of shocked. I had no idea. My jaw hit the floor. Yeah. Oh yeah.
13:21I knew. Sorry. I was, I had shadowed one of the directors in season four. And I was like, yeah,
13:27yeah, Shanna, Shanna Stein.
13:29There was a moment where we had to shoot something extra. I was on a meeting and I was like,
13:33Ooh, cool.
13:37It's like, and they were like, Colby, once again, you can't. I was like, no, of course not.
13:40Of course not.
13:42Billy Butcher tears Victoria Newman in half.
13:47You're going to help us take down Vought and Homelander.
13:54Oy.
14:03Butcher?
14:05No deals.
14:06Clearly Butcher's the hero in that beat.
14:08That's right. Come on.
14:09Yeah. Like he's taking down another soup. She was going to betray us. You know, that's true.
14:13No.
14:14Yeah. A hundred percent.
14:15She was coming around.
14:16I think they were making a pretty good alliance.
14:18No, she was, she was manipulative.
14:20Yeah.
14:20To timing.
14:22She was, this is the character I'm talking about.
14:26Is it politicians?
14:26You can't trust politicians.
14:27She had a daughter and she was coming around and she feared for her daughter's safety.
14:31I was on the phone with her.
14:34Please.
14:36Butcher.
14:55Well, season four, Butcher is dying of cancer. The Kessler within him is allowed to take over.
15:02I think Butcher ostensibly as we know him dies and is then sort of taken over by this symbiote.
15:09And the first thing he does is bust into Huey's meeting with Victoria and Newman and they're going to figure
15:15out a way to do some good shit together.
15:17And Butcher was like, I'm not going to have it. And so he rips Victoria Newman in half.
15:22I did not expect that.
15:23I still remember that moment because I was standing directly across from Carl Butcher and I started bawling for one
15:32of the takes because he really felt like a different person.
15:37And that's a testament to your acting and all of the above. And it just hit me so hard because
15:43it's like looking at someone that you've known for years and I didn't see the old Butcher or the Carl
15:48that I knew in the take and it was a really remarkable moment.
15:51And also saying goodbye to a character that is part of our family.
15:55Oh, so loved.
15:56You know, saying Claudia.
15:58That is actually a recurring thing that's come up with me in the interim since that episode is actually aired
16:04is just how many people come up and just like give me shit for killing Victoria Newman.
16:09I'm still bad about it.
16:10Yeah, she's so well loved as a character.
16:13And the way it happens specifically.
16:15Yeah.
16:15It's so sudden and brutal.
16:17And she was such a good sport about it too on set.
16:19It just broke her heart.
16:21Yeah.
16:22Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
16:23That was like our last day shooting season four.
16:25Yeah.
16:26Was that whole sequence.
16:27And she brought cupcakes.
16:29She did.
16:30Remember?
16:30Yeah.
16:31With her face on it.
16:32I can't remember what.
16:33Something like, like, like lots of blood, guts and cums.
16:37Yeah.
16:38Oh yeah.
16:38Thank you for all the blood, sweat, semen and tears.
16:41That was it.
16:42Dang.
16:43Class act.
16:44The whole sort of revelation of Butcher's power or superpower that he morphed into was actually,
16:49a bit of a mystery because we didn't really know what it was going to be.
16:53There was a very rudimentary, like, animation, a previs.
16:57You know, Eric was describing to me what it would be.
17:00And, um, yeah, it turned out to be the ugliest superpower in the history of superpowers.
17:05That's gross.
17:06That's gross.
17:07Yeah.
17:08Homelander seizes the government.
17:10Kimiko says no.
17:12Now that we have full legal authority, a veritable army of superheroes will be called upon to route these traitors
17:19from our government and from our streets.
17:23America will be safe again.
17:25And to the starlighters, whatever rock you're hiding under, we're coming for you.
17:30I think it's interesting because at the beginning of the season, you know, if I'm not mistaken, like you see
17:36Homelander kind of bored.
17:37At that point, he's had everything he's ever wanted.
17:41He's like, oh, what am I going to do?
17:42You know, and then Sage comes in and she plants a new seed in his ear.
17:46You have all of Homelander's complexities and wounds, you know, that fuel him.
17:52And then you see him really take the most powerful position in the world.
17:57That's a new ability.
17:59You know, that's a new power that he has.
18:01You know, and so I think the question that poses is what is he going to do with that?
18:06Yeah, it's like such a great question that the writers are always asking, which is what happens when you have
18:10a diagnosable narcissist in power?
18:13Who wants to be a world dictator?
18:16Yeah.
18:17Yeah.
18:17Who likes milk?
18:20Mother's milk.
18:22Yeah.
18:22Mother's milk.
18:23Really?
18:23The show has this habit of writing something and then like something that's in our world, the boys' world.
18:30And then kind of when it's airing or a little later, it kind of like weirdly comes to fruition in
18:36some way.
18:37I think it's just that's we're not like predicting the future or anything.
18:41I just think it's that like the writers are so great that they're tapping into something.
18:45Yeah.
18:46That's very true.
18:46Like when I first read the script for the pilot of the boys, I did not think it was I
18:51didn't know that it was based off of a comic book.
18:52I just thought someone wrote an incredible script about America and inserted superheroes into it.
18:58And I think that they just they keep executing on that premise incredibly well season after season.
19:19The ending of season four was such a big shocker for me, at least when I read it, because especially
19:26for Kimiko, you know, we go from the big kiss scene that's backlit and beautiful with Frenchie and Kimiko.
19:33And then she's kind of thrust back into the world of the boys where it's not so romantic and it's
19:40not so rose petals and happy ending and all of that.
19:43In true boys fashion, we kind of end on a tragic note.
19:47That day was really special for me and the character because it's the first time we see her actually speak.
19:54And in the past, it's always been a dream sequence or, you know, singing, but never audible and real.
20:03And I think it was an incredibly charged moment.
20:08And Kripke was the one directing it.
20:11And I got really in my head about how I wanted the scene to play out.
20:16And initially I was croaking out the no because I thought that's more grounded in reality of someone that's been
20:24mute for years and years.
20:26And then suddenly she has the ability to speak.
20:29And then Kripke was like, just trust me.
20:31I need you to scream it at the top of your lungs.
20:34And I am so grateful that he gave me that direction because everything crescendoing into that point, it really made
20:42the season finale.
20:44It was such a funny day because I never knew Asa and Maddie's superpowers.
20:49So when Asa was holding on to me, I had no idea how strong his character would be.
20:54It took a few takes for me to understand.
20:56They were like, no, no, you literally can't move.
20:58He's very strong.
20:59He's like the Hulk.
20:59Yeah, it was a...
21:01He grabs you and you're like, get off of me!
21:02I was like, I'm running towards Frenchie.
21:05No matter what.
21:06And they're like, no, no, no, he's really strong.
21:09Yeah.
21:17So throughout the entire season, there's this really cool metaphor that the writers lined up for Annie, which is she
21:24loses her, she doesn't lose her strength, but she loses her power.
21:28She loses her ability to blast people.
21:30And simultaneously, that metaphor being she loses herself, she loses her identity.
21:35And then that ends up kind of culminating and manifesting in this very amazing and cool storyline they wrote for
21:41me that involved the shapeshifter and having to take down the shapeshifter, which she needed to literally take down.
21:48And she also needed to defeat this part of herself that really just embodied the concept of perfect being the
21:54enemy of the good, right?
21:56And so by the time the season ends, right before Huey's taken away from her and she has to make
22:01this very, very snap-moment decision to leave him to being captured so she can seize him and save him
22:08from the outside, while she's sitting next to him in the car and she's kind of found herself again, she
22:13sees her powers coming back.
22:15And she looks at Huey and she smiles at him. And of course, in true boys fashion, like seconds later,
22:21wham, they get like hit by Cindy and then he's taken away from her.
22:25It's this dichotomy, right, where she's been through this journey, she's found herself again, she sees a flicker of her
22:31power, and then everything that matters to her in this moment, seconds later, is taken away from her.
22:37So it leaves us in this place of like, okay, well, she's been through all this trauma, she's figured out
22:41a way to metabolize it, she's figured out a way to find this strength through yet another shit storm of
22:46a season.
22:47Will she be able to do that again? And that's the major question. Or will she just become nihilistic?
22:52All right, everybody, that's it from us. And right now you can catch the final season of The Boys on
22:56Prime Video.
22:58Yeah!
