00:25Pope Leo XIV began his first apostolic journey through Africa. Over the next 10 days, the
00:31head of the Catholic Church will visit 11 cities in four countries and the government
00:40of Iran issued warning to U.S. over a threat to block the Strait of Hormuz and claims that
00:45the U.S. has undermined the peace process in Pakistan.
00:54Hello, welcome from the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from the Delezu Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
01:00We begin with the news.
01:14On Sunday, PerĂş held its 2026 national election bringing together more than 27 million citizens
01:19to elect the next president of the republic as well as new members of Congress and senators.
01:24Pointing stations closed at 6 p.m. one hour later than scheduled after election officials
01:29sustained the voting hours due to delays in setting up polling stations.
01:33The unofficial exit poll results which provide a representative sample of the vote tallies
01:37suggest that the runoff election will be between Keiko Fujimori and right-winger LĂłpez Aliaga,
01:42which had placed Roberto Sánchez in second place in his exit poll, decided not to release
01:48the results. Citizens also voted for the first time since 1990 for members of a bicameral Congress,
01:55electing 130 deputies, 60 senators and 5 Indian parliamentarians.
02:06And in this regard, at least 63,000 citizens were unable to exercise their right to vote due
02:11to failures in the distribution of election materials.
02:13Piero Corvetto, head of the National Electrical Processes Office, reported that the problem affected
02:1815 polling stations, all located in the capital, Lima, where 211 polling tables could not be set up,
02:24causing delays of up to four hours. The National Office of Electrical Processes has acknowledged
02:30the flaws and announced legal action against Galaga General Services, the company responsible for logistics.
02:36Meanwhile, the National Council of Justice is investigating the head of the same organization
02:39for the irregularities that have come to light today. In this scenario, the National Jury of Elections
02:46extended voting at 211 polling stations that did not receive electoral materials on time.
02:51The stations will be open on Monday, April 13, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time.
03:04And Peru's National Jury of Elections announced that those responsible for delays in setting
03:08up polling stations across the country would face criminal penalties.
03:12The decision follows complaints from citizens who were unable to vote in the general election
03:16due to delays in electoral materials.
03:18In this regard, the head of the National Jury of Elections, Roberto Burneo, confirmed that
03:22those responsible will face the full force of the law.
03:24Burneo also reaffirmed that the institution will guarantee the legality of the electoral
03:29process despite the reported difficulties.
03:37And Peruvian citizens residing in Chile have expressed concern about the situation in their
03:42home country in the context of the national elections.
03:46I'm sure this is the first time in history, perhaps in the world, that there are so many
03:52candidates for the presidency of Peru.
03:56I believe this indicates the current chaos and anarchy in Peru, which is unfortunate.
04:04But in Peru, it is more important to eliminate corruption driven by human greed, the urge to steal
04:11and nothing more because those responsible never think about the country's future.
04:30Here on, President Miguel Diaz-Canel gave an interview to U.S. television channel NBC in which he
04:35condemned the U.S. government for its attempts to undermine the country's sovereignty.
04:39In an interview with journalist Kristen Walker of NBC's influential program Meet the Press, the
04:44president insisted that Cuba is a peaceful country and reminded her who initiated the declarations
04:49of war.
04:49He also rejected the narrative created by Washington that presents the nation as a failed state.
04:54Diaz-Canel clarified that the reality of Cuba is a country that has resisted 67 years of
04:58the blockade, the longest in the history of humanity.
05:09And the Cuban Agro-Roman has approved a decree on the marketing of agriculture and forestry
05:13products to make food distribution more flexible.
05:16The measure authorizes state and private micro, small and medium enterprises to freely sell their
05:21surplus production after fulfilling their contracts with the state, without previous authorization.
05:26The decree incorporates digitalization and control mechanisms such as the agricultural production
05:31information system, mandatory bank accounting and electronic invoicing.
05:35The new measure represents a controlled opening of the agricultural trade by reducing bureaucracy
05:40in the sale of surpluses, encouraging investment in value-added activities and formalizing the
05:45participation of the non-state sector in food distribution.
05:56A Brazilian singer, songwriter, and writer Chico Berker concluded his visit to Cuba.
06:01His return to Havana not only marks a personal reunion, but also reaffirms the deep cultural ties
06:05between his country and the island.
06:07During his stay, the author of Construccion, met with Cuban intellectuals and artists with whom he shared his view
06:13on the role of art in social processes in Latin America.
06:16In this regard, the agenda included tours of the historic center of Havana and discussions
06:20at the headquarters of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.
06:32In Ecuador, five people died and 29 others were injured in a traffic accident in the province of Santa Elena.
06:39A collision involving a passenger bus and a light vehicle on the road to Santa Elena mobilized units
06:44from the traffic commission, the police, the public health services, and the fire brigade.
06:49In this scenario, the head of the Traffic Accident Investigation Office described the incident as a
06:53high-impact head-on collision.
06:55The injured were taken to local health centers for medical treatment.
06:59The authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident.
07:11And in Caracas, Venezuela, social movements gathered to reaffirm their rejection of fascism
07:16and condemned the siege of the Cuban embassy back on April 12, 2002, during the failed coup
07:21against President Hugo Chavez.
07:22On Sunday, a ceremony is being held to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the events at the Cuban embassy
07:28with the presence of Venezuelan foreign ministry officials and Cuban diplomats.
07:33In the ceremony, the Bolivar government traditionally presents a manifest of solidarity to the Cuban mission.
07:38In this scenario, members of the Executive Cabinet and National Assembly deputies deliver speeches
07:42that reinforce the alliance between Caracas and Havana.
07:55U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced it will begin accepting tariff refund requests from importers
08:02affected by the duties imposed by the Trump administration under a federal emergency law.
08:06The refund system, known as the Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries, or CAPE,
08:12is designed to consolidate refunds rather than processing them on an entry-by-entry basis.
08:17Phase 1 of the CAPE will be limited to certain unliquidated entries and certain entries within 80 days of liquidation,
08:24while more complicated scenarios will be addressed in later phases.
08:27The measure seeks to comply with a February U.S. Supreme Court ruling, which overturned tariffs imposed by the Trump
08:33administration.
08:43And on Sunday, the U.S. Army announced that they had killed at least five people in new airstrikes against
08:48two vessels in the Eastern Pacific Ocean,
08:50in operations that the U.S. forces claim are part of their campaign against drug trafficking.
08:55The attacks carried out by the Joint Task Force of the Southern Command resulted in the death of three people
08:59on one boat
09:00and two on another, leaving one survivor whose situation remains unclear.
09:04Meanwhile, Washington insists on classifying the disease as narco-terrorist.
09:08This offensive is part of a military campaign that has resulted in at least 168 deaths since September last year,
09:15and has generated allegations of serious human rights violations and extrajudicial killings.
09:19Tensions with governments in the region who question the legality and humanitarian impact on bombings have also arisen.
09:33The U.S. President criticized Pope Leo XIV on the eve of his apostolic journey through Africa to promote world
09:38peace and respect for international law.
09:41A post on his social media account, President Donald Trump questioned the Pope's rejection of a military intervention against Venezuela,
09:47and in serious consequences including the kidnapping of the presidential couple.
09:51In this regard, the Supreme Pontiff has defended world peace and the importance of adhering to international laws to preserve
09:57life and harmonious coexistence.
09:59Likewise, the U.S. bishops have spoken out against war.
10:10And on Monday, Pope Leo XIV began his first apostolic journey, choosing Africa as its destination of the next 10
10:17days.
10:17The Pope will travel nearly 18,000 kilometers and visit 11 cities in four countries.
10:23The first stop was Algeria, where the Pope was received by the Algerian president, Abdelmarit Tebun, with a welcome ceremony.
10:30From there, he will fly to Cameroon, then to Angola, and finally to Ecuador, Guinea.
10:34This trip, full of pastoral, social, and diplomatic symbolism, will serve to outline the priorities of the pontificate that will
10:40celebrate its first anniversary in May.
10:42The agenda of the trip is revealing.
10:44Pope Leo is expected to address the coexistence between Christians and Muslims,
10:48the over-exploitation of the continent's natural and human resources, corruption, inequalities, human rights, and migration.
10:55On this last point, there is a particular powerful gesture as the Pope will pay tribute to the migrants who
10:59have lost their lives in the Mediterranean Sea.
11:25The President of the United States orders Central Command to impose a naval blockade on all maritime traffic entering or
11:31leaving Iranian ports on April 13th.
11:34United States forces will apply the measure impartially to vessels from all nations, allowing passes through the Strait of Hormuz
11:40to non-Iranian ports.
11:42This action constitutes an illegal escalation of aggression by Washington and Tel Aviv against the Islamic Republic, violating international law
11:49and endearing freedom of navigation.
11:51The blockade seeks to economically strangle Iran, while the joint bombing campaigns continue, leaving more than 3,000 dead.
12:07Iran has responded to the new threats of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who assured that from
12:112 p.m. on Monday, he would block the Strait of Hormuz.
12:15Iran claims it is doomed to fail.
12:17The Iranian Foreign Minister said Abbas Arakshi was emphatic in stating that the United States would not be able to
12:24achieve through pressure what they could not achieve through war.
12:26The Iranian delegation claims that Washington sabotaged the Pakistani mediation from the beginning of the negotiations in Islamabad.
12:33As soon as the talks ended, President Trump presumed his aggressive tone, threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz.
12:39On Monday, the head of the Council of Discernment, Mohsen Rezai, said that if the United States did not manage
12:45to open the channel, it would not be able to close it either.
12:55Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Arakshi said that negotiations with the United States failed due to Washington's inflexibility and recurring changes
13:01in its terms.
13:02Through his social media accounts, Arakshi noted that Tehran has engaged in intense negotiations at the highest level with the
13:08United States in an attempt to put an end to the 47 years of hostilities.
13:11These statements followed the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who threatened to impose a naval blockade on Iranian
13:17ports beginning April 13th following the failure of negotiations.
13:28And the death toll in Lebanon rose to nine following Israeli airstrikes against the town of Tufaha in the south
13:33of the country.
13:34In this context, it was reported that 13 people were injured following the massacre in the Lebanese territory.
13:39The Zionist occupation forces also targeted various residential areas and the facility of the Islamic Health Authority in the city
13:45of al-Mahdal.
13:47The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that to date, Israel has killed more than 2,000 people and injured 6
13:53,436 since the escalation of the Zionist aggression on March 2nd, 2026.
14:05And in response to the Israeli regime's continued agorations, the Lebanese resistance escalated its defensive operations with precision strikes using
14:12drones and rockets.
14:14The Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah, launched rocket attacks against an Israeli military target in the city of Ben Bel.
14:20At the same time, they struck a concentration of Zionist troops in the area of Al Pajada with suicide drones.
14:26They also carried out a large-scale operation involving a swarm of kamikaze drones to hinder the deployment of occupying
14:32forces in the area.
14:42And the United Nations peace mission in Lebanon reported that Israeli soldiers on two occasions used a heavy tank to
14:48ram UN peacekeeping vehicles in the Bayada area causing significant damage.
14:52In a statement, the organization urged the Israeli regime to respect the freedom of movement of peacekeeping personnel deployed under
14:59international law.
15:00The incident occurred after the Israeli army blocked a road used by the peace mission to access its positions in
15:05southern Lebanon.
15:06This new provocation joins the systematic violation of Lebanese sovereignty by the Zionist regime,
15:11which is currently attacking Palestine, Gaza, Yemen and Iran, demonstrating its contempt for international law.
15:24And on Sunday, the Prime Minister of the Israeli regime, Benjamin Netanyahu, violated the Lebanese border and endorsed the continuation
15:31of military aggression against the people of that country.
15:34Amid the attacks against Lebanon, which have so far resulted in more than 2,000 deaths, Netanyahu personally violated Lebanese
15:40sovereignty by crossing the border and entering invaded territory to support the continuation of facilities from there.
15:47This occurred despite the announcement a few hours ago that diplomatic representatives from both nations will hold a meeting in
15:53the United States next Tuesday to begin negotiations for a ceasefire.
15:56It should be noted that the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah and Israel, agreed to a ceasefire in November 24, which
16:02the occupation has repeatedly violated.
16:12In Ireland, citizens continue to protest against the increase in fuel prices for the sixth consecutive day in a crisis
16:18resulting from the war initiated by the United States and Israel against Iran.
16:22The blockade in the state of Hormuz has affected the country's only refinery and multiple teapots, leaving more than a
16:28third of petrol stations without fuel to Irish government, announced a package of 505 million euros in tax cuts to
16:35try to stop the protest.
16:36However, transporters and farmers warned that cost remains unsustainable, but the opposition prepares a motion of no confidence against the
16:43government for its handling of the crisis.
17:09The balance sheet of government alerts that Israel is subjecting more than two million people in the Gaza Strip to
17:14one of the worst footpaths.
17:15The crisis the world has seen in recent decades.
17:18Palestinian authorities warned that in recent months there has been an alarming drop in the production of bread and other
17:23foodstuffs caused by severe restrictions on the entry of goods and humanitarian aid.
17:28The situation has become even worse with the retreat of international organizations.
17:33In light of this situation, the government has issued an urgent warning to the international community and holds the Genosidal
17:39Government of Benjamin Netanyahu responsible.
17:50And in Palestine, the Israeli blockade continues to affect the healthcare sector.
17:54The country's health crisis has worsened due to a shortage of fuel needed for the generators and medical facilities.
18:00The Ministry of Health warned that one of the main generators at the Master Medical Complex in the south of
18:06the Gaza Strip is turned off,
18:07which could lead to a collapse of the facility and put the lives of thousands of patients at risk.
18:11It is stated that technical teams have connected to less power generators in order to supply power to vital departments.
18:18The health authorities warned that the reduction in high capacity generators poses a threat to intensive care units, operating rooms,
18:24dialysis and neonatology departments.
18:35And in France, people mobilized in solidarity with Iran and Lebanon, rejecting U.S.-Israeli aggression against the Middle East.
18:42Protesters took to the streets of Paris to denounce the recent attacks perpetrated by the United States and Israel against
18:47both peoples and the soundness bridge of the ceasefire.
18:50Demonstrators described the attack as a violation of international law and demanding an end to the siege against the region.
18:56Through the march, participants waved flags of Palestine, Iran and Lebanon in support of their sovereignty and self-determination.
19:03The protests in the French capital sought to highlight the grave humanitarian situation in southern Lebanon.
19:15And in Spain, a large-scale festival in solidarity with Gaza was held in Barcelona at the Muelle de la
19:21Justa.
19:21The festival was attended by various political organizations, both local and international, as well as a significant number of citizens.
19:28A large-scale concert was also held, featuring artists from the Arab world and Palestine, who used their art to
19:34denounce the genocide committed by the Saranist entity against Palestine.
19:38All of this served as a preamble to the departure of the Global Sumut Flotilla from Port Vail in Barcelona,
19:43with the goal of breaking the illegal blockade that Israel maintains on the Gaza Strip.
19:55Well, at least we have come to the end of this news break.
