00:00:00In fact, a lot of people are saying that it could be a forerunner to the final.
00:00:05So fancied are both Australia and India.
00:00:09Hails.
00:00:13Hails it is.
00:00:14A little back, mate.
00:00:16Mark, looks to be a pretty good pitch.
00:00:18It's good.
00:00:18It's good ground.
00:00:19It's in good condition.
00:00:20Should be a good game.
00:00:21And you had a chance to look at the lights last night.
00:00:24What did you think?
00:00:24Oh, not too bad.
00:00:25I've played under better, but I've played under worse as well.
00:00:28I think they'll be adequate.
00:00:29And as I said, I think the crowd will make enough light for the game tonight.
00:00:32Yeah.
00:00:33And a couple of quickies, sure.
00:00:34A couple of injuries.
00:00:35Bit of a blow.
00:00:35We've got Kravya Turner's got home today.
00:00:37Paul Riffle's got a slight hamstring strain.
00:00:39So he's here for the day as well.
00:00:40All right.
00:00:41Good luck then.
00:00:41Thanks, man.
00:00:43Azur got a bat under the lights.
00:00:44Do you see that as a problem?
00:00:45Yeah, not really.
00:00:46There's no problem because we've been playing against the West Indies also.
00:00:49We've played under the light.
00:00:49Yeah.
00:00:50So I don't see any problems there.
00:00:53And a couple of changes to the team?
00:00:54Well, yeah.
00:00:55Sidhu's not well.
00:00:56He's got fever.
00:00:56And then we thought we'd play Rajiv because he's more experienced.
00:00:59And as Australian player, the Austin is very well.
00:01:02Yeah.
00:01:02And you think the pitch will turn a little bit?
00:01:04Well, yes.
00:01:05I would reckon, yes.
00:01:05It will turn, yes.
00:01:06Okay.
00:01:07Good luck.
00:01:07Good game.
00:01:10Australia will be batting first after winning the toss.
00:01:14Yes.
00:01:15And there they are.
00:01:15They're already backing onto roofs in the surrounding area.
00:01:21And they've got themselves really comfortable.
00:01:24They'd have to be $1,000 seats up there.
00:01:26Well, this is it.
00:01:27We're on our way.
00:01:30Bang on target straight away.
00:01:32A watchful wall.
00:01:34He's pushing straight down the line.
00:01:38That's well played.
00:01:40That's a good start for Taylor.
00:01:41He's got it through the field.
00:01:43This is a fast outfield.
00:01:44That'll go all the way.
00:01:46Well, his first scoring shot through the extra cover gap for four.
00:01:51Very strict security today.
00:01:53That's probably why it's taken a little while for this round to fill up.
00:01:57That's well played again by Taylor.
00:01:59Another loose ball.
00:02:00He's hit that beautifully through the offside field.
00:02:02He doesn't have to really worry to run for that one.
00:02:05That's two he's got now.
00:02:06One off the front foot through the offside field off Tabaka.
00:02:10And that was a bit short and he punished it well.
00:02:14Oh, he's had a go at that one too.
00:02:15And he's blazed that one through the offside field.
00:02:18Very wide delivery.
00:02:19Taylor was committed to it.
00:02:21He went after it.
00:02:22And it's gone fizzing away.
00:02:24A fall.
00:02:26Just one run off the silver so far.
00:02:27It's been a good one.
00:02:29Oh, well bowled.
00:02:30That's a beautiful delivery.
00:02:31He's holding the ball up.
00:02:33Very appealing for everything.
00:02:34It really is surprising.
00:02:36I don't think he got anywhere near that.
00:02:37It's a very good ball, mind you.
00:02:38We'll take a look at it in a moment.
00:02:3922 without loss.
00:02:44He's got that away in the air.
00:02:45It's going to go for four, is it?
00:02:46No, it's cut off down there.
00:02:47It's a fumble.
00:02:48It's four.
00:02:49That's the first little bit of misfielding by the Indians.
00:02:52They've been good so far.
00:02:53But he definitely should have saved three runs there.
00:02:57It bounced to him.
00:02:58He started to panic as he got a bit closer.
00:03:00And he ended up fumbling it.
00:03:02Well, that's good batting there from Mark Waugh.
00:03:04Because he not only shuffled down the wicket, but he moved away to the offside.
00:03:08And definitely had Tabaka in two mind, just as Swinup was, trying to stop that one.
00:03:16A little bit of bad bounce there for Swinup.
00:03:21Well, good shot.
00:03:23Beautifully driven.
00:03:23That's a classic cover drive.
00:03:25A magnificent shot.
00:03:27You won't see him any better than that.
00:03:29Right into the gap as well.
00:03:30And so Mark Waugh now begins to turn it on to.
00:03:38In the air and through Gully.
00:03:40In fact, it was wide of him.
00:03:41And that's gone for four, two.
00:03:43So anything that's up, they're going to go for it while this field is up.
00:03:46And that was a good shot.
00:03:52There he goes again, into the gap.
00:03:54Well fielded.
00:03:55That's better.
00:03:57And the Indians, I think, understand how important the fielding is.
00:04:02Diving full length to his left.
00:04:08Jadija there, pulling off a good one.
00:04:12Yes, Ajay Jadija is amongst the fielders in the Indian team.
00:04:19And this really is a glorious shot from Mark Waugh.
00:04:21Standing up on that back foot and smashing it through point.
00:04:26Which is important against India.
00:04:28Is there a good batting line?
00:04:34Loud appeal there for a catch down the next side.
00:04:38Mark Waugh certainly isn't interested.
00:04:41And by the look of it, we have just hit his tight pad on the way to Nairn Bunga.
00:04:49Very good take there by Munga.
00:04:52There's no big screen for the replay here.
00:04:57At the Wankedi Stadium.
00:04:59But there's plenty of animation in the crowd.
00:05:01They're all giving their own versions of what happened.
00:05:04The important one is that it came off the thigh pad.
00:05:07And umpire Sheffield shook his head.
00:05:16A terrific delivery from Srinath again.
00:05:19Cutting back into Mark Waugh.
00:05:22But what saved Mark Waugh there was the little bit of extra bounce.
00:05:26Put over there from Srinath.
00:05:2841 for no loss Australia.
00:05:34And that's brilliantly played by Taylor.
00:05:36Square of the wicket on the offside.
00:05:38For four more runs.
00:05:39That's his fifth boundary.
00:05:43And there again.
00:05:44A little bit of width outside that offstamp.
00:05:46And Mark Taylor can do no wrong today.
00:05:49Sixth boundary through the offside.
00:05:56And this really is a terrific shot from Mark Taylor.
00:05:59He's picked that ball from Srinath so quickly.
00:06:02That he's literally hit him over mid on off the back foot for four.
00:06:10And again he's beaten the field on the offside.
00:06:13A dive there at backward point from Anil Kumble in Wayne.
00:06:17And Mark Taylor picks up yet another boundary.
00:06:28Once again Taylor being allowed to play off the back foot.
00:06:31The only time he's looked in trouble is when he's been brought onto the front foot.
00:06:35And the ball's moved off the seam a little.
00:06:38Prasad's going to keep allowing him to play off the back foot.
00:06:41Then Azaruddin's got to do something.
00:06:43He's going to have to change the tactics.
00:06:45Try and get a breakthrough.
00:06:48Oh and it's over the top of the middle stump.
00:06:51They're asking the question.
00:06:52Well I think he might have nicked that.
00:06:55But I'm not so sure that it carried.
00:06:58Well either that or let it nicked the bail.
00:07:01It certainly sounds as if there was a bit of a sound there.
00:07:05Taylor trying to heave that one out the ground.
00:07:08Well let's see if we can pick up anything here.
00:07:13Down the wicket he goes.
00:07:17Looked like a deflection for sure.
00:07:19And comfortably taken.
00:07:21Well I've got to say I think that was out from that angle.
00:07:28It sounded like a big nick there.
00:07:30The keeper didn't go up at all.
00:07:34Taylor continues to try and belt the ball through the offside field in a very aggressive frame of mind.
00:07:42Well that's a great shot.
00:07:43That's going for six.
00:07:44That's a magnificent hit.
00:07:45Way back over the top.
00:07:47Well this is a gem of an innings for Mark Taylor.
00:07:50That's his half century.
00:07:52And he's played beautifully.
00:08:00Taylor hitting with the spin there.
00:08:03And really got that one off the middle.
00:08:04And that was six from the moment he hit it.
00:08:15Mark Wall touches down.
00:08:16Yes comfortably through for a second.
00:08:17In fact it's gone all the way.
00:08:20Oh it's a little bit difficult from this section of the commentary box to pick that part of the ground
00:08:25down there.
00:08:26Because we've got a section of building in front of us.
00:08:29But it seems that he climbed that one pretty well.
00:08:31It ran away to the fence quite fast.
00:08:33There are a few pitchers down there.
00:08:35So it gathered a bit of momentum and beat the fieldsman coming along from square.
00:08:41Oh well bold.
00:08:42And a big appeal there for stumping.
00:08:44And he's asked for a replay.
00:08:46Well I think Mark Wall thought that he was okay.
00:08:49He's staying there at the moment.
00:08:51That was a good delivery.
00:08:52It did turn quite a long way.
00:08:54Beat the outside edge.
00:08:55It had to be dragged back a long way.
00:08:57I suspect he was okay.
00:08:58Let's have a look.
00:09:01Bit of turn there for Raju.
00:09:02He flighted the ball nicely.
00:09:04And got the ball to turn a long way.
00:09:06And that ball did go out of the crease.
00:09:09But he was back very quickly.
00:09:11And got the toe down.
00:09:17A little bit loathe to say too much about what we think the decision is.
00:09:21Because we have to be sitting in the same room as the third umpire.
00:09:24Which I think is absolutely ludicrous.
00:09:31And Wall trying to heave that one over the square leg.
00:09:34They've got a man back there.
00:09:41And that brings up the hundred.
00:09:49Long on.
00:09:50Sheenaat.
00:09:51And he's taken it.
00:09:52So Mark Taylor who played so well off the back foot.
00:09:55Finally perishes.
00:09:56Trying to play the full shot.
00:10:02This might just be the break through that the Indians are looking for.
00:10:10I'm going to Kadi Raju.
00:10:13Brought in to counter the right handed batsman in the Australian batting line up.
00:10:18In fact getting rid of the left handed Australian captain Mark Taylor.
00:10:23Taylor not getting hold of that full shot.
00:10:25And Sheenaat that long one making no mistake.
00:10:27Australia 103 for one.
00:10:35That's a beautiful hit.
00:10:47This is precisely the reason why it is difficult to bowl to Mark Waugh.
00:10:54The ball just drifting away a little bit.
00:11:04Oh let's go on for six.
00:11:05That's a flat one.
00:11:07That's a crowd killer.
00:11:08But they're all looking.
00:11:1450 to Mark Waugh.
00:11:16Both the Australian openers bringing up their half century with the six off.
00:11:20Then Katapati Raju.
00:11:23But there again you see what Ian Chappell refers to as the crowd killer.
00:11:27And you know why.
00:11:31In the air.
00:11:33And what a catch.
00:11:34Unbelievable.
00:11:35Catch.
00:11:36You little beauty.
00:11:41Sanjay Mandraker diving away.
00:11:43He took that in his fingertips.
00:11:45Now that's the sort of feeling that can change matches.
00:11:48He only just got there.
00:11:50That's one of the best so far this World Cup.
00:11:53A little bit of extra bounce here for Venkat Pati Raju.
00:11:56And Ricky Ponting unable to control it.
00:11:59But have a look at that for a catch.
00:12:00Magnificent catch by Sanjay Mandraker.
00:12:02And Sanjay Mandraker diving to his right.
00:12:03And Sanjay Mandraker diving to his right.
00:12:04140 for two Australia.
00:12:08This is the wicket of Ricky Ponting.
00:12:10Unable to keep that cut shot down.
00:12:12And Sanjay Mandraker throwing himself to his right and coming up with the ball inches from
00:12:17the ground.
00:12:18And just what the doctor ordered for India.
00:12:23Back to the yard.
00:12:24That may be out.
00:12:24Yes.
00:12:25He's given him.
00:12:25He's gone.
00:12:26That's very unlucky.
00:12:27What a way to go.
00:12:30Well run out by your brother.
00:12:32Have a straight drive.
00:12:34In fact Raju got a finger on that one.
00:12:36It deflected onto the stumps.
00:12:38And that's the end of Steve Waugh.
00:12:40He's a prolific scorer of runs.
00:12:42And this is one of the few ways you get him out these days.
00:12:45That's very unlucky.
00:12:48Well this is the type of luck the Indians needed at this stage.
00:12:51And so very easily can change the course of this game.
00:12:53Driven back by Mark Waugh.
00:12:55Venkat Pati Raju just getting his fingers on the ball.
00:12:57And then hitting the stumps and Mark Waugh a foot out of his ground.
00:13:01Most unfortunate 157.3 Australia.
00:13:05This is the wicket again.
00:13:06Just watch the reflection of the fingers down the other end.
00:13:08Just tipped his fingers and hit the middle stump.
00:13:11And that was the end of Steve Waugh.
00:13:12What a way to go.
00:13:16A big wicket this for India because Steve Waugh is the in-form Australian player.
00:13:21And most unfortunate to get out the way he did.
00:13:25A delighted Venkat Pati Raju.
00:13:27And why not?
00:13:41Full toss down the leg side.
00:13:42And that's got to be four.
00:13:44Yes, that's bad bowling.
00:13:45Money for old rope that is.
00:13:48Another full toss in on leg stump at this level.
00:13:50And you're asking for trouble.
00:13:52Well, this captain would be very disappointed with this because Stuart Law is the new player in.
00:13:56And Srinath experimenting here, trying the Yorker, drifting it on the leg stump.
00:14:01And Stuart Law had no problem in dispatching it to the fence.
00:14:09And he's already disappeared into the crowd twice.
00:14:13That makes it three times now.
00:14:20And Mark Waugh has now decided to open his shoulders.
00:14:24The ball not quite flighted, but just in the right slot.
00:14:27You don't want to get too close to the ball when you step down the wicket.
00:14:34And it's very close.
00:14:35Now I am probably talking to the right man, Sonny.
00:14:38Jason Gillespie wasn't in the original squad of 18.
00:14:42In fact, wasn't even in the squad of 20 for Australia.
00:14:45How come he's been allowed as a replacement here on the technical committee?
00:14:50Well, the technical committee has only got to see if a replacement should be given or not.
00:14:55They have to take into account the extent of the injury, the time it will take for the injury to
00:14:59recover.
00:15:01And then say whether there should be a replacement or not.
00:15:04But they are not in any way of concern about whether it should be from the 18 or the 20.
00:15:11And that's the 100th floor, Mark Waugh, back-to-back sentries.
00:15:14That's a magnificent performance.
00:15:19Indeed, there's no question about it.
00:15:21Mark Waugh has been instrumental in getting Australia off to a brilliant start once again.
00:15:27He was overshadowed for a period by his captain, Mark Taylor,
00:15:31who took the initiative from the Indian Dolors.
00:15:34But Mark Waugh has bided his time, and he's been rewarded with another century of only 120 deliveries.
00:15:43He's got two Sixers in that as well.
00:15:50Well, there's another crowd killer.
00:15:54Fortunately for the crowd, it's just a touch short.
00:16:00Now, which gear is Mark Waugh stepping into, Ian?
00:16:05Because this was really a cracker of the shot.
00:16:09Srinath trying to dart the ball into him, trying to cramp him.
00:16:15But all that Srinath ended up doing up was getting the ball into the right position for that shot into
00:16:22the crowd.
00:16:25Straight down the ground, almost took the umpire's head off.
00:16:28One bounce, two bounces into the fence for four.
00:16:31Now, there's a flat-back smash.
00:16:36And Mark Waugh here is climbing into this Indian attack.
00:16:40It's a slower ball from Manoj Krabaka.
00:16:43The off-break, but Mark Waugh has been there long enough.
00:16:49Kumbly is going to continue.
00:16:51Mind you, one shouldn't lose sight of the fact that the Indians have got a pretty good batting line up
00:16:55themselves.
00:16:57He hasn't quite put hold of that one.
00:16:59He'll go to square leg for one.
00:17:00No, he wants two.
00:17:02He's coming back.
00:17:03And, well, this has got to be close.
00:17:05He's given him out, yes.
00:17:07Well, Waugh doesn't think he was out.
00:17:09In fact, I think he probably expected the umpire to call for a replay.
00:17:12He didn't, that's umpire Dunn down there, normally pretty cautious.
00:17:16He's given him out.
00:17:17Well, let's have a look at the replay.
00:17:20Well, good piece of feeling this by Venkatesh Passat.
00:17:24Mark Waugh looking to hit the ball wide of Midorn, but in the end managing to drag it to square
00:17:28leg.
00:17:30Passat coming in quickly, and a flat return to Mongia.
00:17:34Just catching Mark Waugh out of his ground.
00:17:38Empire Steve Dunn not meeting the third empire.
00:17:41And Australia lose their fourth wicket, 2.32 for four.
00:17:44The end of the magnificent innings from Mark Waugh.
00:17:53It's a lovely time to come in this.
00:17:55I'm going to throw caution to the wind and really get stuck in.
00:17:59Will this be a run out?
00:18:00No, it won't.
00:18:04Well, one thing for sure is that with Michael Bevan coming to the free, Stuart Law will have to do
00:18:08a lot more running.
00:18:10Because he's one of the quickest runners between the wickets.
00:18:13And, uh, really made his ground quite easy.
00:18:19Yes, uh, if Bevan's running to the danger end, very seldom will they get him.
00:18:24Got him, caught and bowled.
00:18:26That's very well done.
00:18:28He tried to drive that straight down the ground.
00:18:30Never looked like doing anything other than taking the catch.
00:18:33Safe hands.
00:18:34So, that's the end of Stuart Law.
00:18:36Caught and bowled by Kumbly.
00:18:39Wickets tumbling.
00:18:45A good piece of bowling this by Anil Kumbly.
00:18:48Just holding this one back.
00:18:50Stuart Law looking to play that on the onside.
00:18:54Ball stopping on him a bit.
00:18:56And in the end, only managing to give a simple catch back to Anil Kumbly.
00:19:00237-5, Australia.
00:19:11Oh, this is going to be out by Miles.
00:19:13Yes, they're both standing down the same end.
00:19:16Well, that's a tragedy.
00:19:21Bevan is the man to go.
00:19:22He's the one they wanted out there.
00:19:26However, this is the way things do happen in one-day cricket.
00:19:29Towards the end, they do end up getting themselves run out.
00:19:31Because they take so many chances.
00:19:34Just let's have a look and see exactly what happened here.
00:19:36Pushed away behind square.
00:19:38Bevan running to the danger end.
00:19:39Wanted to run.
00:19:41And he ended up down there with Shane Lee.
00:19:43Who decided not to go.
00:19:44So, that was the end of that.
00:19:48It's a danger of the man running down there and taking the balls.
00:19:51So, Michael Bevan, five balls for his six-out run out.
00:19:54And Australia, 244 for six.
00:20:00Oh, he's had a go at that one.
00:20:01Perhaps hit him just outside the line of off-stump.
00:20:04It hit him actually on the thigh.
00:20:06He might have clipped his box as well.
00:20:08He looks a little uncomfortable.
00:20:11And he's getting down and trying to hit that one over square leg.
00:20:13That's his favourite area.
00:20:17This is what happened.
00:20:19Went to try and whip it away on the onside and got hit flush in the box.
00:20:26And he said, well, I think that's probably out.
00:20:29Yes, he's given.
00:20:31He's ran to the rearkeeper that time.
00:20:33And desperately stretching out.
00:20:36And eventually lost his back.
00:20:38An umpire done at square leg was given his second run out.
00:20:43Well, the Australians here running for everything.
00:20:47Normandy and Healy missed that delivery.
00:20:50Shane Lee, the non-striker, decided to go through with the run.
00:20:54But I am only wise to the occasion, hitting the stumps direct.
00:21:00258 for seven, Australia.
00:21:09It's well balled again.
00:21:10Slightly played and it's straight to extra cover.
00:21:13And that is the end of that.
00:21:16Well, it really was a slower ball.
00:21:21It just popped up to Mahmoud Azrin in.
00:21:22Shane Warne just wanders off the ground.
00:21:25He was trying to drive it away on the offside, down the ground to mid-off, I'd say.
00:21:29But it really was a little lollipop.
00:21:31Well, this is good bowling by the Indians.
00:21:33Again, Venkatesh Passat varying his pace.
00:21:35The slower one.
00:21:36And Shane Warne playing a little too early.
00:21:39Into the safe hands of the Indian captain.
00:21:41Another wicket gone.
00:21:43258 for eight.
00:21:51Well, that's a magnificent hit.
00:21:53He's got that one way down.
00:21:54Oh, no, he's going to be out.
00:21:55Oh, he's got him.
00:21:55Yes.
00:21:56For a second, I thought that was going into the crowd.
00:21:59It went miles in the air.
00:22:01And that's a magnificent catch down there.
00:22:04Kumbli coming in off the boundary.
00:22:08Underneath that very, very high hit by Healy.
00:22:10That's the area he loves best.
00:22:12He got onto it all right, but got too far underneath it.
00:22:15Well, picking this lower one up and swinging it on the onside.
00:22:18This really is a very good catch by Anil Kumbli.
00:22:20Because the ball, he had the sun in his eyes.
00:22:23And in the end, kept his eyes on the ball and took it cleanly.
00:22:27258 for nine, Australia.
00:22:32Well, with just one ball to go now,
00:22:35they've got their score to 258.
00:22:37And we all thought they were going to get up near around 300.
00:22:40That goes again.
00:22:42Slower ball again.
00:22:43The value of change of pace.
00:22:45And the frightening thing from India's point of view
00:22:48is that slower delivery, that leg cutter,
00:22:50is holding up a little bit.
00:22:51So there is no doubt that Warne is going to spin it like a top.
00:23:00So Glenn McGrath comes out into the middle.
00:23:04And he may not even get a chance to face a delivery
00:23:08because the batsman crossed over when Ian Healy got out.
00:23:13His job today for Australia.
00:23:15Would be to fire on all cylinders when he's balling.
00:23:24The last ball of the innings.
00:23:28And he's missed it.
00:23:29They're going to run.
00:23:30And it's coming down the bowlers end.
00:23:32And he's got him.
00:23:33Yes, he's out.
00:23:33Run out.
00:23:34The Australians all out.
00:23:37That is good thinking by Mongia.
00:23:41Five runouts in the innings.
00:23:43And Mongia really realised that he wasn't going to get McGraw.
00:23:46And he decided to go for the bowler's end.
00:23:48The bowler got back to his stumps.
00:23:49And they managed to get the batsman run out of the non-strikers end.
00:23:53Five runouts in the innings.
00:23:55This is good thinking by Nan Mongia.
00:23:57The non-striker had backed up too far.
00:23:59And Mongia realising that he wouldn't get out if he threw it at the striker's end.
00:24:02Threw it to the bowler.
00:24:04He made no mistake in removing the bails.
00:24:06So five runouts for Australia.
00:24:09258 all out after 50 overs.
00:24:12Mark Waugh.
00:24:14126.
00:24:15An absolutely superb innings.
00:24:17Taylor.
00:24:18Great start.
00:24:19He got them off to a 59.
00:24:21And really, from then on in, the legs fell off.
00:24:25258 or 50 overs.
00:24:26And not a bad performance in the end by the Indians.
00:24:30The Indian bowling, after they gave a lot of runs initially to Mark Taylor and Mark Waugh.
00:24:35Coming back well towards the end of the innings.
00:24:37Raju picking up two wickets at an important time for India.
00:24:41Anil Kumlay doing a good job.
00:24:422-1 for 47.
00:24:44But Venkatesh Prasad picking up those two wickets towards the end.
00:24:47Doing a good job.
00:24:51So the folks now will pause for a second while the players have their dinner.
00:24:58The Indians need 259, 5.16 runs per hour.
00:25:03This could be a great game of cricket.
00:25:04We'll be back here at the Wenkating Stadium in India to watch the run chase in 40 minutes.
00:25:21In the season of 94.
00:25:27Quite frequently plays league cricket in England.
00:25:34In the air and that one's flown down to third man.
00:25:38Well, that wasn't a bad delivery first up.
00:25:40So, straight away, Tendulka off the mark.
00:25:43So it didn't take him long.
00:25:45He's not all that happy with that red umbrella, I don't think, down at the far end.
00:25:50Which, for some reason, is, in fact, it's been down there since the start of play.
00:25:57It's just on the edge of the return crease.
00:25:59But it looks as if Tendulka has decided that he wants it moved.
00:26:09It's just a hint of curve there for him.
00:26:18And there we go again.
00:26:19Yes, Jason Gillespie will arrive out here and join the team in time for Australia's next match,
00:26:26which is the game at Nagpur.
00:26:30It's on Friday.
00:26:31Australia are playing Zimbabwe there.
00:26:34Every game is pretty important to Australia.
00:26:36They can't, because of conceding to Sri Lanka,
00:26:39they can't afford to lose any games.
00:26:41They can't afford a slip-up at all.
00:26:45So that's the next match.
00:26:47It's on Friday.
00:26:49I'm looking at that.
00:26:52Well, that's well bowled.
00:26:53That's got to be quite close.
00:26:54If you straighten down the line.
00:26:56He's looking at Healy there.
00:26:57Didn't move.
00:26:58He was bang on behind the stumps.
00:27:01We're right behind.
00:27:01Bit difficult to see, although he's having a look at his bat.
00:27:04Let's have another look at the delivery.
00:27:06Well, after those first couple of deliveries moving away from the batsman,
00:27:10Fleming doing the right thing, the intelligent thing,
00:27:13getting the ball to nip back into the batsman.
00:27:17It's making the batsman think.
00:27:30That's a good shot.
00:27:31Beautifully played down the ground.
00:27:32That's a lovely cover.
00:27:33Straight drive.
00:27:35Healy was pinned down a little bit, and that last one just slightly overpitched onto it in a flash.
00:27:40Straight down the ground for four.
00:27:41Six without loss.
00:27:47Here at the Wankhedy Stadium.
00:27:50As ground is a picture.
00:27:55Just a little bit deeper, they've got Ponting.
00:27:58He's on the 15-yard mark for the right-handed Tenduka.
00:28:22Plenty of meat in that bat of Tenduka's.
00:28:24It looks quite broad at the base.
00:28:30Nice placement.
00:28:31Willey come back for the second.
00:28:32McGraw's got a very good arm.
00:28:34Watch it come whistling in right over the bales as well.
00:28:40The last thing the Indians would want at this stage,
00:28:43chasing a score of 258, is a run out.
00:28:49They have to keep the scoreboard moving all right.
00:28:53But they need to do it with the well-judged ones and tools.
00:29:02Oh, that's got to be close.
00:29:04Straightened down the line.
00:29:05Yes, he's given him.
00:29:06That's it.
00:29:07He's given him out.
00:29:08He stood there, looked long and hard,
00:29:11and eventually raised his finger.
00:29:14Well, it's certainly straightened down the line.
00:29:16It looked as if it was going to be close, no matter what.
00:29:18He looked at it for a long time before giving it out.
00:29:20So, Jadeda is out.
00:29:22LBW.
00:29:24Well, his footwork has been very, very uncertain.
00:29:27And there, once again, you see him pulling his foot back.
00:29:30If he had kept it stretched, he would have perhaps survived.
00:29:35But Steve Dunn really taking his time
00:29:37to decide that Jadija was right in front to Fleming.
00:29:41And India have lost their first picket for seven.
00:29:45I don't think so.
00:29:46I think most ballers, when they hit the pads of the batsmen,
00:29:48they think they've got the batsmen.
00:29:51You're starting to sound like Bill Laurie, you are.
00:29:54You mean the right-handed version?
00:29:59Yes, all the batsmen, all batsmen of the side.
00:30:07Yes, I don't think even Bill Laurie would have
00:30:10made 36 in that 60-over match at Lourdes.
00:30:15I'm not too sure about that.
00:30:23First bang on target again,
00:30:25and McGrath is making it very difficult.
00:30:29This is his third over.
00:30:32In fact, he's bowled 15 balls,
00:30:33and they haven't scored a run of him yet.
00:30:36So, a difficult length, a good line,
00:30:39and making it very tough.
00:30:42Now, that's a good performance so far in the World Cup,
00:30:44to 1.27, not out in his first match.
00:30:48Made 70.
00:30:51And was run out by his mate down the other end.
00:30:55And he's out there with him at the moment.
00:30:57Cambly ran him out.
00:30:59Told me on the train, going up from Gualia,
00:31:01that he'd only ever run him out twice.
00:31:04And, uh, the previous one was on the second.
00:31:08Quite a character, young Cambly.
00:31:11And, uh, indeed, uh,
00:31:13a very colourful character.
00:31:15Had a little chat with him.
00:31:16He was, uh, very effervescent.
00:31:18I saw him, uh, going out shopping yesterday as well.
00:31:21Danced out of the hotel.
00:31:30Oh, I think he got outside the line there.
00:31:33Again, uh, a big appeal from, uh, McGraw.
00:31:35Not much from behind the wicket, though.
00:31:42By Shepard, absolutely unmoved.
00:31:45Then, because...
00:31:46forward, he's been hit
00:31:48above the roll of the pad.
00:31:52And McGraw, we know, he's getting the ball to bounce a little bit.
00:31:55That's another fine over, uh, so far from McGraw.
00:31:58He's bowled two maiden overs.
00:32:05Well, that's three maidens from McGraw.
00:32:07Very good bowling.
00:32:09Seven for one.
00:32:15So, the wicket-taker, Damien Fleming, continuing.
00:32:19He got, uh, the danger out.
00:32:21And he's bowled him!
00:32:22What a delivery that was, too.
00:32:24Swinging back into the left-hander.
00:32:26And that bowled him neck and crock.
00:32:28He really, he was back on his back foot there
00:32:31and left it far too late.
00:32:32It seemed to me it was through him
00:32:34before he had a chance of getting his bat down.
00:32:35That's good bowling by Fleming.
00:32:37But, once again, uh,
00:32:41another Indian batsman
00:32:42not moving his feet at all.
00:32:44We saw Ajay Jareja
00:32:45not moving his feet too much.
00:32:46And you can see over here,
00:32:48very, very little movement.
00:32:50In fact, no movement at all from, uh,
00:32:52Vinod Kambli.
00:32:53The ball nipping back into him.
00:32:55That's the second Indian wicket gone for seven.
00:32:58Believe me, there's very little protection out there
00:33:00for anything on leg stump.
00:33:052.50 more runs.
00:33:06There's a...
00:33:19And Fleming, he really has got off to a good start.
00:33:22He's conceded, uh, most of the runs
00:33:24but, uh, he's also got two wickets.
00:33:39They need to score
00:33:405.60 runs and over
00:33:42to win.
00:33:44That's wide too.
00:33:55So much depending on the session
00:33:57Tindalka now.
00:34:01He's, uh, played one beautiful shot
00:34:02straight down the ground
00:34:03for four.
00:34:04Lovely timing.
00:34:06Just, uh, lent on
00:34:08and slightly over-pitched delivery
00:34:09from Fleming.
00:34:11Just whacked it straight down the ground.
00:34:13Mid-on is quite wide.
00:34:14It was four from the moment
00:34:15he left his back.
00:34:19That's a better line
00:34:20and, uh, trying to get it again
00:34:22down the ground
00:34:23with time straight to Mid-orff.
00:34:24missile airplanes.
00:34:25Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:34:28Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:34:29Yeah, highways.
00:34:29So long'll us hold
00:34:30five.
00:34:32Oh, uh, uh, uh.
00:34:41veces have, uh, uh, uh, uh.
00:34:49Likexs.
00:34:49Uhh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
00:34:50F rates, Sp you, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.e,
00:34:52uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh. Ha,
00:34:54uh, uh, uh, uh, uh. Alright,
00:34:54uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh.
00:34:57Oh, and trying to latch onto that one and whack it through the onside field.
00:35:01He'd be a bit upset if he missed out.
00:35:03Nine for two.
00:35:06Provis.
00:35:09That's well played.
00:35:11Session getting him away into the gap at mid-wicket.
00:35:13That's the shot he loves so much.
00:35:14And plays it absolutely brilliantly.
00:35:20Any length at all.
00:35:22Give him any room to move.
00:35:23Just flicking it through the gap at mid-wicket.
00:35:27It wasn't a bad ball at all.
00:35:29It was a good ball coming back into Tendulkar.
00:35:33But look how quickly he's got into position.
00:35:36And pushed it away between the field of Square Lake and Midon.
00:35:43This is what makes Tendulkar such an exciting batsman to watch.
00:35:53So, four runs from that over.
00:35:55India, 13 for two.
00:35:57That's a view looking over this city.
00:36:00It's from the Taj Mahal Hotel back down to the ground.
00:36:04The lights flooding this ground for the first time.
00:36:07To tell you more, Ian Chappell and Ravi Shoste.
00:36:12Thanks, Tony.
00:36:16Well, India in a bit of strife.
00:36:18To 13 for two in the eighth over.
00:36:21Thanks to some very accurate bowling from Glenn McGrath.
00:36:25And some good swing bowling from Damian Fleming.
00:36:29Well, I guess we're about to see if this Indian batting really does revolve around Sachin Tendulkar, Ravi.
00:36:36Absolutely right, Ian, because they're in drier straits at the moment.
00:36:40And they certainly need a big hand from Tendulkar.
00:36:49And the umpire done, who quite often gives a bit of thought before he makes his decision.
00:36:55Eventually decides that that is a why.
00:37:02Well, Matthew Fleming is not happy at all.
00:37:05You see the ball is actually pitched on the stumps and then moved into Tendulkar.
00:37:10And in the end, was down the leg side.
00:37:12As long as the umpires are consistent, when they give wide down the leg side, it's fine.
00:37:30For a strong player off the back foot, Sachin Tendulkar.
00:37:33We saw that in the match against the West Indies.
00:37:36Scored so many of his runs through the onside, as he did in the last over,
00:37:41when he clipped Glenn McGrath through mid-wicket for three.
00:37:45Very, very strong in that area.
00:37:47For a short man, he plays extremely well with a straight bat off the back foot.
00:37:52You quite often get shorter players who are very good players at a pull in the cut shot.
00:38:03And we see that shot again.
00:38:05And that's one that he really favours.
00:38:11I guess it is to be expected that short players are going to be good cutters and pullers
00:38:16because a lot more balls are going to look short to shorter players than someone of, say, your height, Ravi.
00:38:22That's right, a player like Gundappa Vishwanath was a magnificent cutter
00:38:26because the ball used to sit up nicely for him outside the off stump
00:38:29and he wouldn't make any mistakes.
00:38:32Sachin Tendulkar is no different.
00:38:34Very strong on the pull and cut,
00:38:36but the Australians have bowled straight to him today,
00:38:38not given him any room.
00:38:44Well, that's good shot.
00:38:46Just short of Glenn McGrath.
00:38:49And that ball really, yes, skidding off the outfield.
00:38:54Bouncing quite quickly to McGrath.
00:38:57Mark Taylor coming out of the slips for Tendulkar.
00:39:01Well, Tendulkar picking this one from leg stump
00:39:03and this bouncer almost did Glenn McGrath.
00:39:06There must be a little bit of dew on the outfield.
00:39:08and you can see the ball skidding there.
00:39:11Glenn McGrath doing well to tackle that bounce.
00:39:16But this is the first time that the Australian bowlers
00:39:19have strayed on the pads of Tendulkar
00:39:20because so far they've bowled a tight line around off stump.
00:39:35India have lost two early wickets.
00:39:38This long chase, 259 is the target.
00:39:42Well, that's well hit.
00:39:45Like Mark Taylor early in his innings,
00:39:47that ball wasn't all that short.
00:39:51Now, this is a great shot from Tendulkar.
00:39:53It wasn't really a bad delivery from Glenn McGrath.
00:39:56It just shows you how decisive Tendulkar is with his footwork.
00:40:02Just short of a length and he's
00:40:05quickly onto that back foot and smashing it wide open it on.
00:40:08That really is a terrific shot.
00:40:10Not easy to play.
00:40:11It just shows he has a very good eye.
00:40:19So, Taylor once again has taken the slip-out for Tendulkar.
00:40:24Mark Taylor has gone into the short-knit wicket position.
00:40:28And the other catching man is Steve Waugh in the gully.
00:40:34In fact, Mark Taylor has caught such in Tendulkar
00:40:37on more than one occasion in that position
00:40:39with Tendulkar trying to pull.
00:40:43It will be interesting to see if that
00:40:45puts any sort of pressure on the little man.
00:40:55Tendulkar looks across at his partner, and a signal there
00:40:59from Steve Dunn of New Zealand that it was too high.
00:41:05Tendulkar a short man.
00:41:07And this one banged in a short by Glenn McGrath,
00:41:10clearly going over the shoulder of Tendulkar.
00:41:13Tendulkar on that occasion trying to play a shot as well.
00:41:22Oh, that's a beautiful hit.
00:41:25So, Glenn McGrath making the mistake that
00:41:28a couple of the Indian bowlers did early in the Australian innings,
00:41:32just pitching too short.
00:41:35Well, Tendulkar here has dismissed Glenn McGrath from his presence.
00:41:38If you look here, he's not really gone on to that back foot.
00:41:41His initial movement is to go forward.
00:41:43He stood there and smashed it through square leg.
00:41:46Really a terrific shot.
00:42:00He doesn't make much movement at all
00:42:03before the bowler actually delivers the ball,
00:42:06Sachin Tendulkar.
00:42:11Really just a lifting of the back.
00:42:13He doesn't move his feet at all
00:42:15until he actually picks up the line and length of the ball.
00:42:19That's right.
00:42:20The Indian has got a quick silver feet
00:42:22because it's very rare that you find Tendulkar in no man's land.
00:42:26He's either fully forward or right back in that back foot.
00:42:33That was that superb shot at the previous delivery.
00:42:38Going forward, staying where he was and smashing it through square leg.
00:42:44In the air and just short of mid-on.
00:42:47Shane Warne.
00:42:49The thing that perhaps saved Tendulkar, he hit it so hard,
00:42:52Warne didn't have a chance to come forward and grab it.
00:42:56And this one here, Tendulkar hitting up Ishly,
00:42:59almost carrying to Shane Warne there.
00:43:02Just bouncing before him.
00:43:07Tendulkar has decided to take the attack to Glenn McGrath.
00:43:19Oh, lovely shot.
00:43:21That's a terrific over for Sachin Tendulkar.
00:43:2830 for two.
00:43:46Once again, just a little bit too short, Damien Fleming.
00:43:50And that now is four boundaries on the trot for Sachin Tendulkar.
00:43:58He's a little man, but he certainly packs a punch when he plays shots like this.
00:44:03A little bit of room from Matthew Fleming and Tendulkar has quite cut it.
00:44:09The ball really raced away to the fence.
00:44:11The man at third man making a despairing dive there, but only in vain.
00:44:31This one might be four.
00:44:33Well, it might be now because the Philipsman's tripped over.
00:44:37Not going to quite make it and they're not really hustling for four.
00:44:41So ten runs off the over.
00:44:43It's 40 for two.
00:44:44Streets of Bombay.
00:44:45And I had a very good example of Bombay driving, as the taxi driver explained it to me last night.
00:44:52When someone nearly rammed him from the left, coming at a million miles an hour,
00:44:56he just turned and looked at me and he said, that's Bombay driving.
00:45:02Certainly not the place to be in if you're a heart patient.
00:45:10At the moment, Tendulkar is on the rampage.
00:45:13Even with India under pressure, having lost those two wickets,
00:45:16he's still scoring more than a runner ball.
00:45:18He's 31 not out of only 30 deliveries.
00:45:22Magrath to continue.
00:45:27I tell you what, Sachin Tendulkar is moving along at about the same rate as my cab driver last night
00:45:33through the streets of Bombay.
00:45:34He's really getting a move on now after a slow start.
00:45:42Well, this would have been another boundary had not Mark Waugh come in the way there.
00:45:47It was timed again beautifully by Tendulkar.
00:45:49This is a good contest here between Magrath and Tendulkar.
00:45:59Excellent shot.
00:46:13Well, this is the shot he tried at the previous overall.
00:46:16The mistake he made then was he was trying to probably hit it too hard.
00:46:19But here he's waited on that Sachin Tendulkar, this half-poly.
00:46:23And look at that follow-through.
00:46:27Got the placement absolutely right between the bowler and Magrath.
00:46:36One big crowd on their feet.
00:46:43Chance for Magrath.
00:46:45And not quite a second chance.
00:46:47Tipped it up in the air.
00:46:50And I think for a moment he thought he was going to get to it at the second try.
00:46:56It'll be interesting to see here if the bats turned in Sachin's hand.
00:46:59It looks as if he's got the leading edge here.
00:47:01Took Magrath by surprise.
00:47:03Gets a hand to it.
00:47:05And an effort, diving effort there.
00:47:07But unfortunately for him, the ball was too far away from him.
00:47:12So a little bit of luck here for Tendulkar.
00:47:19He really wants this wicket if Tendulkar does Glenn Magrath.
00:47:22He's got a bit of tap in the last couple of overs.
00:47:35I'm not surprised if the other Indian players are a little bit intimidated by Sachin Tendulkar.
00:47:41The way he plays.
00:47:42I mean he's such a good player.
00:47:43It's got to be hard to follow that sort of act.
00:47:45Especially with this big crowd here.
00:47:48They expect boundaries and sixes of every ball then.
00:47:50Because Sachin sets the stands blazing.
00:47:52When a new man goes in and plays a bit of orthodox cricket.
00:47:56He has to watch out.
00:47:58Otherwise he'll be booed pretty quickly.
00:48:04Well that's a lovely shot.
00:48:08And you can't see from where we are.
00:48:11But judging by the crowd.
00:48:12It's cleared the road.
00:48:14Umpire Shepard is checking.
00:48:16And in fact is he getting the walkie talkie out?
00:48:20Yes in fact he is.
00:48:21To ask.
00:48:22For a result.
00:48:24So we'll have a look and see whether it cleared the road.
00:48:27Certainly the crowd think it did.
00:48:45Well there again a magnificent shot from Tendulkar.
00:48:49He just picked that half volley from middle and leg and smashed it wide up long on for six.
00:48:54This little man is seeing the ball like a football.
00:49:03And grab wide on the crease and that goes for four.
00:49:06This is unbelievable batting and the crowd loving every minute of it.
00:49:11Fifty-four for two.
00:49:18Well don't worry about the new lights at Wankete Stadium.
00:49:23Sachin Tendulkar has set this place alight.
00:49:25Twenty-seven off Glenn McGrath's last two overs.
00:49:29Thirty-seven off the last three for India.
00:49:32And suddenly India who were miles behind Australia.
00:49:36It would be interesting to check the comparisons just well I guess three overs back.
00:49:44And the situation was thirteen for India after seven, thirty for Australia after seven and now India in front.
00:49:50And it's been an unbelievable turnaround.
00:49:57Wiesel just takes a single.
00:49:59Probably a very wise thing to do.
00:50:01Just give it to the local hero.
00:50:03That's right.
00:50:04He scored 45 of only 36 balls.
00:50:06And the beauty about his batting to date has been that he's played cricketing shots.
00:50:12There's no risk in war.
00:50:14He's just treated the bowling on merit.
00:50:16And have a look at that six.
00:50:18The previous over.
00:50:19Over pitched on leg stump.
00:50:20No problem at all.
00:50:26And that was the four from the last four.
00:50:28This has been an unbelievable counter attack from Sachin Tendulkar.
00:50:34And I must say, I don't think there's anything more exciting in the game of cricket than to see somebody
00:50:40counter attack.
00:50:41Whether it's a batsman counter attacking or whether you've got a captain who counter attacks with his field placings.
00:50:48I think it's the best part of cricket.
00:50:50And certainly the crowd are enjoying it at the moment.
00:50:53Because by taking the attack to the Australians.
00:50:57He suddenly has given India a chance here.
00:51:00Because at one stage it looked up that the Australians would dominate.
00:51:13I guess the big thing now for Azaruddin as the captain.
00:51:17And he's just wandering down to have a chat to Sachin Tendulkar.
00:51:21That's good captaincy.
00:51:22I think the one thing that he has to guard against Sachin is the fact that he's playing so well
00:51:29that he just gets a little bit carried away.
00:51:31That's very good captaincy there from Azaruddin.
00:51:33He's done exactly the right thing and just said to him,
00:51:36Right mate, just pick the right ball is probably all he had to say.
00:51:39Just make sure you pick the right one.
00:51:56What Sachin Tendulkar must guard against at this stage is not to be carried away.
00:52:02Still a lot of cricket to be played in this game.
00:52:06What India did from him is to back right through this innings.
00:52:11He's got to be able to pace his innings.
00:52:25I just posed a little question.
00:52:27Ravi, if India win the game and Sachin gets a century,
00:52:30do you think anyone would be going to give Mark Waugh the man of the match?
00:52:34Well, I pity the gentleman who even gives that a thought
00:52:39because I'll tell you what, he might reach Mark Waugh there by giving him the award,
00:52:44but he won't be able to leave the stadium.
00:52:50Yes, I've seen what they can do in, well, it was Bombay in those back in 69
00:52:54when they set fire to the stands.
00:52:57Mumbai, they might have changed the name, but I bet they don't change the tactics.
00:53:05It's 56 for two.
00:53:13Sachin Tendulkar is on 46.
00:53:15Mohamed Azaruddin is on 6.
00:53:17India are 56 for two after 12 overs.
00:53:20And this is what the crowd really wanted.
00:53:23Firstly, they've got Sachin Tendulkar going.
00:53:26And now, Mark Taylor has done what he so often does do.
00:53:30He's an attacking captain.
00:53:32And if the opposition start taking it to Australia,
00:53:35he calls on his best bowler, Shane Warne.
00:53:38So we've now got Warne versus Tendulkar.
00:53:46I must say that Shane Warne is the type of bowler,
00:53:49much like, I think, Venkatapati Raju,
00:53:53you almost see a smile come on their face
00:53:55when there's a challenge thrown at them.
00:53:57They've got somebody at the other end
00:53:59who they know is going to be coming at them.
00:54:02They have the ideal temperament for spin bowling.
00:54:05They just love it.
00:54:07Shane Warne is certainly one of those.
00:54:09Well, this should be a fantastic contest
00:54:10because Tendulkar is on the rampage.
00:54:13But Warne has a lot of variety when he bowls.
00:54:27Warne just making the batsman wait a little bit
00:54:30and I think he's overdone it now.
00:54:33I think umpire Sheppard, yes.
00:54:34In fact, umpire Sheppard is waving him over
00:54:37and saying, come on,
00:54:38we've had enough of the gamesmanship.
00:54:40Let's get on with it.
00:54:48And that was very short.
00:54:51Tendulkar, amazingly,
00:54:53has gone straight over the bowler's head with it
00:54:55rather than going through mid-wicket.
00:54:58That's the...
00:55:01That's 54, Tendulkar.
00:55:03And what a blazing knock this has been
00:55:05from the little man.
00:55:07A loser from Shane Warne,
00:55:09a short delivery.
00:55:10There was a man deep at Longhorn
00:55:12and Tendulkar decided to smash it
00:55:14straight down the ground.
00:55:23Warne has to have two men in catching position.
00:55:26Mark Taylor is in his normal spot at first slip.
00:55:29Mark Waugh's at short cover.
00:55:34That's quite an amazing pull shot
00:55:36because it was short.
00:55:38I don't know how he's got it down there
00:55:39because there was so much power.
00:55:41There was so much power.
00:55:41Amazing shot.
00:55:43Caught at mid-off.
00:55:45Just out of reach.
00:55:47Got a hand on it.
00:55:50Stuart Law is the guy at mid-off.
00:55:52And that wasn't a good shot from Tendulkar.
00:55:57Well, he tried to play an inside-out shot here.
00:56:00And this is a great effort by Stuart Law.
00:56:02Shane Warne giving the ball air,
00:56:04getting a bit of turn.
00:56:06And Law here diving backwards.
00:56:07Just unable to get his hands on the ball.
00:56:09But this is good cricket already from Warne.
00:56:29I must say, there's anticipation every ball here at Wenketty Stadium.
00:56:35The way Tendulkar's playing.
00:56:39And with Warne on now.
00:56:46And that's a bit of good fortune once again.
00:56:54Now, that could be interesting
00:56:57to see where the umpire, quite correctly,
00:57:00umpire Sheppard has called for a replay
00:57:02to see if it was a four.
00:57:04Well, this could be just four runs here
00:57:07because Shane Lee running back there at third man
00:57:12doesn't stop it at the first attempt.
00:57:14And then whilst he does it the second time,
00:57:15his feet are out of the boundary line.
00:57:17So this most certainly would be a boundary.
00:57:20But not a very good shot from Tendulkar.
00:57:27Once again, Azuruddin has gone down there
00:57:30in an attempt to calm his partner down.
00:57:34Sachin Tendulkar has got India back into this game.
00:57:38And I think Azuruddin's a little bit worried
00:57:40that he's, that the red mist is rising
00:57:43and he just can't control it.
00:57:50That's beautifully bowled.
00:57:51That's a pretty good first up over from Shane Warne.
00:57:5466 for two.
00:58:00That's a great shot.
00:58:03This has been quite an amazing turnaround.
00:58:07After five overs, Glenn McGrath had bowled three maidens
00:58:11and India was seven for one.
00:58:13And here we are, 13.2.
00:58:16India are 70 for two.
00:58:19It just shows when you have one good over
00:58:21and India got three boundaries.
00:58:23And then after that, runs just started coming freely.
00:58:26And here, this time, the Indian captain gets him to the act.
00:58:29Beautiful shot of the back foot.
00:58:37And he's got him with an attempted in-swinger.
00:58:41And I think on this occasion,
00:58:43it was Azuruddin who just tried to hit it too hard.
00:58:47It was really a long hop and deserved to be dealt with.
00:58:49But he tried to hit it too hard.
00:58:56Well, the ball just not coming on to Azuruddin here.
00:58:59Playing a little early, getting the bottom edge
00:59:01and the ball hitting the middle stump.
00:59:03And the Indian captain would be very disappointed with that shot.
00:59:0670 for three, India.
00:59:12Well, Wankhedi Stadium.
00:59:14Tremendous atmosphere here at the moment
00:59:16as India are in the chase for 259.
00:59:2070 for three.
00:59:25Bourne is getting quite a bit of turn.
00:59:30And certainly troubled Tendulkar in that last over.
00:59:35Tendulkar a little fortunate to survive.
00:59:48Interesting that the line that Shane Warne is using
00:59:52is very similar to what he used with Kalu Wadarana,
00:59:55the Sri Lankan wicketkeeper,
00:59:57when he was brought on a couple of times
00:59:59to try and quieten him down.
01:00:01Curved the ball into a roundabout leg stump
01:00:03and then spin it away towards Offstump.
01:00:15And Draka pulls him through for single.
01:00:19One by.
01:00:26Tendulkar is on 56.
01:00:28And Draka off the mark with that sweep shot.
01:00:42There's some easy singles there for Tendulkar
01:00:45if he wants to take them.
01:01:00Too short.
01:01:01Too short.
01:01:16Well, a short ball from Shane Lee to start off
01:01:19and Tendulkar has been there long enough
01:01:22to dispatch it to the fence.
01:01:24So Shane Lee has been welcomed to the ball increase
01:01:27by Tendulkar.
01:01:35Shane Lee was a 12th man in a number of games for Australia
01:01:38at the end of the World Series competition,
01:01:41so he hasn't had a lot of bowling.
01:01:45He comes into the game today
01:01:47because of the injury to Paul Rifle.
01:01:52Now, this is going to be interesting.
01:01:54He very nearly got out to Shane Warne.
01:01:59Tendulkar did, and he's going to have to see
01:02:01if he can weather the storm here
01:02:02because he's beginning to really spin it now.
01:02:04He's got on to 62.
01:02:07Filing it just a little quicker.
01:02:09And it just seems to me that Tendulkar,
01:02:11those deliveries that pitch just outside Leg Stump,
01:02:13he's just closing the face a little bit on them.
01:02:15Although there's no short,
01:02:17but there's no silly bit off now,
01:02:20so he can do that a little bit more freely,
01:02:22but he's still going to have to be careful.
01:02:29This is respect for Tendulkar
01:02:31because it's rare that you have Shane Warne
01:02:34bowling with only four men inside the circle.
01:02:39In fact, he's got five men inside the circle.
01:02:44Mark Taylor there at first slip,
01:02:46but there's plenty of gaps.
01:02:47It'll be interesting to see if Tendulkar
01:02:49takes the singles that are being offered.
01:02:53And that will be a wide.
01:02:55It did spin a lot, but it also pitched very wide.
01:03:01As he really gave that one a rip too,
01:03:02it was quicker.
01:03:03Just lost control of it a little bit.
01:03:07I think the plan was to try and get him driving on the offside.
01:03:10It just went astray a little.
01:03:13It's 83 for three.
01:03:25Oh, and that bounce just in front of Ian Healy, I think.
01:03:29He was diving away to his right,
01:03:31but the ball was always going down.
01:03:38Yes, I just thought for a second he was going to pick it up.
01:03:41Just to see exactly where it pitched.
01:03:43It was going down all right,
01:03:45and he was trying to get down there with it
01:03:46and just stayed underneath his gloves
01:03:49and went for four.
01:03:52And that's the reaction of Shane Lee.
01:03:54I think just for a second he thought he'd got it.
01:03:56And he keeps indicating that that's what he's trying to do.
01:04:10This is why Warren is such a good bowler.
01:04:13He can vary his line.
01:04:14He's got subtle variations of his deliveries as well,
01:04:17but he varies his line according to the plan that he's got in mind.
01:04:21Goals beautifully to whatever plan it is
01:04:24that he's worked out for the batsman.
01:04:25And he can also vary those plans.
01:04:39We're going to pick the spin on this one.
01:04:42That is the top spinner,
01:04:43almost a bit of googly spin on that one.
01:04:51Just an inside edge there.
01:04:52It's 90 for three.
01:04:59It's a lovely shot.
01:05:04Yes, that was beautifully played.
01:05:05Not only did he get a bit from the end of the bat,
01:05:07but he actually hit it down.
01:05:08Simon Braco getting into the action here.
01:05:12Everyone just short outside off stump.
01:05:14Trying to bowl a little bit too quick at the moment, Shane Lee.
01:05:16And you watch him get onto this one.
01:05:20Over the top of it,
01:05:21and just fine of the gully feels when.
01:05:24And that's four all the way.
01:05:25In the bulk of the strike in the last few minutes,
01:05:29the crowd have gone a little quiet.
01:05:32There's a great air of expectancy in those first 15 overs.
01:05:37Every time that Tendulkar was facing,
01:05:41the crowd was really buzzing.
01:05:44And that's smashed down the ground.
01:05:46And that brings up the 100 for India.
01:05:49And that brings up the 100 for India.
01:06:16While there's when it comes to bowling to Mandraker,
01:06:18preferring to bowl more on middle and off stump.
01:06:26So Mark Waugh to continue.
01:06:28And swept by Tendulkar in the gap.
01:06:31Just in front of the square leg empire for four runs.
01:06:35Fetched that one from way outside off stump.
01:06:40And this is the shot which we don't normally see Sachin Tendulkar employ.
01:06:44But the pitch is affording a bit of turn.
01:06:47And he is playing it with the turn.
01:06:50Picking it from outside the off stump.
01:06:53Something which the Australians do very regularly to spin us.
01:07:01And a single to follow that boundary.
01:07:03So this is developing into a good partnership for India.
01:07:08And Warn will continue the attack for Australia from the Pavilion Inn.
01:07:15And the little man Tendulkar will be on strike.
01:07:26Tendulkar will be very true after pitching.
01:07:28And Tendulkar looking to give himself room and cut on the offside.
01:07:50A short ball by Warn and Sachin Tendulkar.
01:07:54Quick to bounce on that.
01:07:55Went right back onto his stumps.
01:07:57And pulling it through mid-ricket for four runs.
01:07:59His 13th boundary.
01:08:03And that's very positive footwork there.
01:08:06Very quickly into position.
01:08:10The ball is short.
01:08:13But Tendulkar moving back and across.
01:08:15And therefore finding the entire onside field to play it.
01:08:26This is good cricket by Tendulkar.
01:08:29So he's got the boundary.
01:08:30And now he's putting the pressure on the fielders.
01:08:32Looking for the singles, ones and twos.
01:08:40Because we've seen that he's got the knack of picking up a crucial wicket.
01:08:46Not necessarily with a good delivery.
01:08:49Because in one-day cricket every time a batsman sees a bad ball come along.
01:08:53Especially after a good spell which Warn has bowled.
01:08:59And he tries to, his eyes light up, trying to take the maximum advantage of it.
01:09:04And sometimes in that anxiety he can hit the ball a little too hard or play the shot a little
01:09:09too early.
01:09:11And Michael Bevin can induce just such a mistake.
01:09:16Warns bowled a splendid spell.
01:09:21And now suddenly the Indians may relax.
01:09:30This is beautifully played by Tendulkar.
01:09:33He gets across his thumbs here when he goes back.
01:09:35There is a man at deep mid wicket.
01:09:37So he goes right back on that back foot and smashes a three square leg.
01:09:45This time he made sure he hit it along the ground.
01:09:47He knows there is a fielder at deep mid wicket.
01:09:50Doesn't want to take any chances.
01:09:52Rolling those wrists over.
01:09:56Again nicely played too long off by Tendulkar.
01:09:59So runs coming through India.
01:10:04Eight runs coming off the silver so far.
01:10:14Because the Indians still have a lot of batting to come.
01:10:17And Ashprabaka and Munger are recognized batsmen.
01:10:42Down the track comes Tendulkar.
01:10:44Can't get it past Mark Wohl.
01:10:46Good over this for Australia.
01:10:47There's two runs coming off it.
01:10:49134 for three.
01:10:54And pulled by Mandreka this time.
01:10:56In the gap.
01:10:58A deep mid wicket.
01:10:59Four runs.
01:11:08Well this time Munger getting into the act.
01:11:14Finding that gap over there.
01:11:16Michael Bevan tendency to pitch short costing him dearly.
01:11:25And this goes off the pad for leg by.
01:11:27141 for three India.
01:11:33Oh that's out.
01:11:34He's got him.
01:11:35Yes he's got him stumped.
01:11:36In fact wide signaled.
01:11:38And so that's the end.
01:11:40Of what has been a magnificent effort as well.
01:11:45Well now that is very very wide.
01:11:47He was going after it.
01:11:49Let's have a look at the replay here.
01:11:53Well Mark Wohl quick to spot Tendulkar coming down the track.
01:11:56Really fired that one wide.
01:11:58Even though the empire signals wide there.
01:12:01He has got the wicket of Tendulkar.
01:12:04Out for a brilliant innings.
01:12:06But this is one wicket that India didn't want to lose at this stage.
01:12:09144 for four.
01:12:16And that one played with the spin from outside of Stump.
01:12:20And they're coming back for the second.
01:12:21In comes his throw.
01:12:22This is gone.
01:12:22Yes he's got him.
01:12:23No he hasn't.
01:12:24Yes he's given him.
01:12:25He's given him.
01:12:26That's very good fielding.
01:12:27A magnificent throw.
01:12:28Right alongside the bails.
01:12:30Ricky Ponting.
01:12:31Here's a little beauty in the field I tell you.
01:12:33He's quick.
01:12:34His throws are flat and straight.
01:12:36And that was the case in that occasion.
01:12:39Well Manoj Prabhakar was under pressure in that over.
01:12:42And here.
01:12:43The moment he turned around for the second run.
01:12:46One could see that he was in trouble.
01:12:47With Ricky Ponting.
01:12:48One of the better fielders in the Australian team.
01:12:51Coming in from mid wicket.
01:12:52And a beautiful throw to Ian Healy.
01:12:55And catching Prabhakar a yard out of his ground.
01:12:58So another wicket gone.
01:13:00147 for 5 India.
01:13:09Well he's got that one away into the gap.
01:13:11And that's gone for 4.
01:13:12That's well played.
01:13:13That's good placement.
01:13:14A short delivery.
01:13:16That's the end of the over.
01:13:17155 for 5.
01:13:23Oh that's well played.
01:13:25That's beautifully placed.
01:13:26That's screaming away to the fence.
01:13:27Now that is good timing.
01:13:29Really waited for that one.
01:13:30As I said he bowls it quite fast.
01:13:32And he just played it perfectly.
01:13:37Got a little bit of width here from Michael Bevan.
01:13:40But look how late Sanjay Manzegar plays that shot.
01:13:43That's the reason why he got the placement right.
01:13:46Came down on it hard.
01:13:48So Glenn McGrath is going to continue.
01:13:51And he's conceded 31 runs of his 6 overs.
01:13:55Having bowled 3 maidens.
01:13:58Oh and unlucky straight away.
01:13:59He won't be enjoying this Glenn McGrath at all.
01:14:02He bowled so well at the beginning.
01:14:03And that's a good delivery.
01:14:05Off the edge.
01:14:06And away it goes for 4.
01:14:08He's pretty severe on himself.
01:14:11I'll mind you.
01:14:12Got a little bit of a smile on his face.
01:14:14Another right smile there from Glenn McGrath.
01:14:17But Ryan Munger won't mind it.
01:14:19It's 4 runs.
01:14:21Certainly not the place where he intended to play that shot.
01:14:29That's well played.
01:14:31And what's more it's brought up his half century.
01:14:33And it's been a vital one too.
01:14:35He was a very good fighter for Tenduka.
01:14:38And he's going to want to kick on from here.
01:14:411.77 for 5.
01:14:46Thanks Tony.
01:14:48And the outfield very fast.
01:14:51One will run away to the boundaries.
01:14:53So Mandraker doing a good job.
01:14:55Despite the loss of Sachin Tenduka.
01:14:59Yes, he's ensured that the momentum hasn't been lost.
01:15:03It's very difficult to recover from a blow like that.
01:15:11But Mandraker has kept the run rate going.
01:15:15He's picked the ones and the twos.
01:15:16And he's picked the occasional boundary as well.
01:15:29He's in good form.
01:15:30He played well against the West Indies.
01:15:32He's also opened the innings for India in a test match.
01:15:37So he knows how to play the quicker bowlers.
01:15:40And a little bit of width there that Magrath has given him.
01:15:45And it's good enough for Munguia to latch on to it.
01:15:53That's beautifully played.
01:16:03Earlier in the over when Munguia missed that half-poly.
01:16:09He didn't miss it.
01:16:10In fact, he hit it straight to the fielder at mid-on.
01:16:12You could see him wring his hands in despair
01:16:14because he knew that he'd missed out on a boundary.
01:16:18But this time he's made no mistake.
01:16:27Munguia's not looking for the single.
01:16:31In fact, he's playing the spin bowl.
01:16:33The spin bowl is pretty competently.
01:16:35Very quick on his feet.
01:16:37And very decisive with his movements,
01:16:39which is what you've got to be against good spin bowling.
01:16:48And Mark Taylor, good catch.
01:16:51And that's well bowled.
01:16:52So Shane Warne, as he does so often for Australia,
01:16:56comes on at a crucial time and does the trick.
01:17:01That's beautifully bowled too by Shane Warne.
01:17:06Just tossing it up a little bit.
01:17:08Getting the ball to turn and Mark Taylor making no mistake.
01:17:13Excellent bowling there from Shane Warne.
01:17:15And India have lost their sixth look at the 201.
01:17:19Humblai with an average of nine.
01:17:22Top score of 24.
01:17:24Steve Warne now is on the Tata end.
01:17:26And he's going to be bowling to Mandraker.
01:17:30Field pretty well spread for Steve Warne.
01:17:33Quite happy to give the single to the batsman who's in form.
01:17:40And Mandraker let Humblai have the strike.
01:17:44And that's intelligent batting from Mandraker.
01:17:51This is not quite the leg glance that Ranjit Singhji used to play,
01:17:55but it's still good enough.
01:17:59Mandraker letting the ball come onto the bat
01:18:02and then rolling his wrists.
01:18:07Batting very well, Sanjay Mandraker is.
01:18:11And Ian Healy's caught him.
01:18:12So Steve Warne has done the trick as well.
01:18:16And that's 200 dismissals for Ian Healy.
01:18:20Steve Warne with just the second delivery in this innings
01:18:24has got rid of a very dangerous player in Mandraker.
01:18:29Mandraker just feeling for the delivery outside the off-stamp.
01:18:35And a very, very simple catch there for Ian Healy.
01:18:38Steve Warne has struck again
01:18:40and Sanjay Mandraker has gone for a very well-played 62.
01:18:43India 205 for 7.
01:18:56Jabba Garl Srinath was very keen to get out there.
01:18:59He crossed well on the field.
01:19:01And you can see why he was keen to get out there.
01:19:04His batting has improved in the last season or so.
01:19:10And that one's got past Healy.
01:19:14So once again, this game takes a turn.
01:19:18Just as you think with two quick wickets falling,
01:19:22Mongia and Mandraker.
01:19:25Suddenly, India get two boundaries.
01:19:27And once again, they've got a sniff of victory.
01:19:37Just right of Healy.
01:19:39And that'll be four.
01:19:42And Steve Warne's picked up a wicket,
01:19:43but there have been a number of boundaries coming off his bowling.
01:19:47Interesting to see what Australia's captain does down the other end.
01:19:52Oh, he's got that one in the air.
01:19:54This will be out.
01:19:54Yes, caught mid-on.
01:19:55That's it.
01:19:57Lee making no mistake with that one.
01:19:59Hit high in the air.
01:20:00And Srinath out-court at mid-on.
01:20:06And so that's four wickets for Fleming.
01:20:10Well, Jawagal Srinath didn't want to leave it till the end.
01:20:13Deciding to go over mid-on here,
01:20:15but getting it high on the bat.
01:20:17Only managing to find the Australian captain at mid-on.
01:20:20In fact, it was Shane Lee.
01:20:22So, important wicket gone for India.
01:20:25224 for eight.
01:20:28Oh, he's got that one away.
01:20:29That's magnificently placed.
01:20:31A bounce and into the crowd for four.
01:20:35Six runs off that over.
01:20:38And a wicket that's 230 for eight.
01:20:42In the air.
01:20:43And that's it.
01:20:45Straight to mid-on.
01:20:46There's no way Bevan drops those.
01:20:48That one's a pretty straight delivery.
01:20:50He tried to get it over mid-on.
01:20:52I think that's what he was trying to do.
01:20:53But, unfortunately, just not enough beef in that one
01:20:56to get it over the top.
01:20:57So, another wicket to Australia.
01:20:59This is how it happened.
01:21:01Yeah, when Kitesh Prasad, like Srinath earlier,
01:21:03trying to hit the ball over the infield.
01:21:05There was a man at Longhorn Wide,
01:21:07but only managed to find Bevan.
01:21:10231 for nine, India.
01:21:14He's got that one away square.
01:21:15And that is nicely timed, too.
01:21:17This may go for four.
01:21:18It has.
01:21:19Well, that's very well done.
01:21:20He went down the wicket and then paddled it away
01:21:22past Squareleg.
01:21:28Hold him.
01:21:29That's the end of that.
01:21:30Really, he had to go for it.
01:21:32And what a good performance this was by Fleming.
01:21:35Five wickets he's got for 36 in 8.6 overs.
01:21:41So, good performance by the Australians.
01:21:43And you can see there that they are very happy indeed
01:21:47with the way things have gone.
01:21:50Well, Damien Fleming here sticking to the basics of bowling straight
01:21:54during the slog overs so that if the batsman misses, he hits.
01:21:57And this is exactly what's happened.
01:21:59Anil Kumle giving himself room,
01:22:01looking to hit the ball over mid-on,
01:22:03making no contact and having his off-slung peg back.
01:22:08But that is the Australian batting card.
01:22:11You can see up at the top there,
01:22:13a quick fire 59 from Taylor.
01:22:15War kicked on to make 126 back-to-back centuries
01:22:19in this World Cup.
01:22:20The first time that's ever been done.
01:22:22Stuart Lord chipped in before he was caught and bowled by Kumbly.
01:22:24And really, the rest of them didn't do much at all,
01:22:27which gives you some idea of how well they played at the top end.
01:22:31So, those are the bowling figures, the Indian bowling figures.
01:22:35Again, their leg spinner there.
01:22:37Ten overs, one for 47, Kumbly.
01:22:42Prasad and Raju, the other wicket takers.
01:22:43I thought Raju bowled quite well.
01:22:47Srinathu was pretty difficult in the early stages.
01:22:51That's the Indian batting card.
01:22:52Tendulkar played a gem of an innings.
01:22:54That really was superb.
01:22:55Before he was out stumped by Healy of the bowling of Mark Waugh for 90.
01:23:00And also, very useful innings there from Mandraker.
01:23:0462 when the chips were down.
01:23:06And he got some good support from Mark.
01:23:08I think it will turn a little bit later.
