00:01The express bus driver caught on video driving on a busy highway with a woman seated on his lap
00:07has been sacked with immediate effect.
00:09In a statement on Monday, the bus company, Sri Maju Group,
00:13confirmed the incident took place on the 12th of April on one of their buses.
00:17The company described the footage as, quote,
00:20deeply disappointing, alarming, and wholly unacceptable.
00:24Sri Maju says the driver's conduct was a serious violation of company procedures
00:28and the professional standards expected of all their drivers.
00:32The company said it has taken five immediate steps,
00:35filing a police report, terminating the driver on the spot,
00:39reporting the matter to the Land Public Transport Agency,
00:43issuing a public apology,
00:44and fast-tracking the installation of in-bus video surveillance systems across their fleet.
00:49It will also cooperate closely with the relevant authorities
00:52and take all necessary and appropriate steps
00:55to ensure that such an incident does not recur in the future.
00:59JPJ has said the investigation findings will be referred to the Director-General for further action.

01:07the driver could face license revocation and criminal charges.
