00:00Trump is pressuring European NATO allies to send naval forces or contribute to security efforts in opening that key choke
00:09point.
00:10Can Starmer rally the troops to get this key waterway opened?
00:15Because in many people's minds, Donald Trump is seeing this as two wars, the war with Iran and now the
00:22Strait of Hormuz, and he needs help with that.
00:25Yeah, but it isn't, is it?
00:26I mean, we wouldn't have been in this situation had the war not started.
00:30And this is exactly the very war that Donald Trump wanted into, is now wanting to walk away, saying, I
00:36need help in controlling Iran in its control of the Straits.
00:41And America, as we've learned, has little requirement, little obligation to lean on oil and gas that comes from the
00:49Middle East.
00:49And therefore, this is why Donald Trump is likely to walk away, leaving the mess for everybody else to pick
00:55up.
00:55But we're still left with this situation where Iran is going to flex its muscles.
01:00It wants reparations.
01:02It needs money to rebuild its economy.
01:06And it's going to charge boats as they go through.
01:08So the question now is, how can we come to some deal and make something of the mess that Donald
01:16Trump has created?
01:18So we've actually gifted Iran greater influence than they had six weeks ago.
01:24And it's a sadness in a way, because this regime has been such a toxic influence across the Gulf for
01:33decades.
01:33And yet all this investment of hard power pummeling the country in the way we've seen, costing $2 billion a
01:40day, I understand, from the United States.
01:43And still a theocratic regime is in charge, still wanting to pursue a nuclear weapon, still owning long-range missiles,
01:50still able to control the Straits of Hormuz.
01:53That cannot be any form of success, no matter what Donald Trump says.
