00:00This is yet another humiliating U-turn for a government that just has no strategic direction.
00:07That deal should never have been on the table, paying £35 billion to give away territory we already own
00:15at a time when so many people in this country are dealing with the cost of living,
00:19to show that they were not in any way thinking clearly.
00:23And this has also happened because Conservatives have been fighting every step of the way,
00:28in the Commons, in the Lords, making it very difficult for them to pass this legislation.
00:32So I welcome the news. We've won. We've got a U-turn. We're really pleased.
00:37Do you think Donald Trump will be pleased and will think more favourably of Keir Starmer after this?
00:42He's not been very nice about him recently.
00:44So it's not really about what Donald Trump thinks. It's about what is right for the British national interest.
00:50Giving away the Chagos Islands was wrong for the British national interest.
00:55A strategic military base, which we owned. We owned that territory.
01:00We should not be surrendering that right.
01:01And I'm very pleased that this has now been put out to grasp.
01:05The government should not pick up this legislation again.
01:07It was completely wrong for them to do so.
01:09And I'm very grateful to all of the Conservatives, the MPs and the peers who fought it every step of
01:14the way.
01:15So I'm very grateful to all of you.
01:15So I'm very grateful to all of you.
01:15So I'm very grateful to all of you.
01:15So I'm very grateful to all of you.
