00:00let's get to our big story of the day involving sports news and business and involves the national
00:04football league the justice department has opened up an investigation into the nfl which accuses
00:09the league of engaging in anti-competitive tactics that have harmed consumers mike lee he's a senator
00:16wrote in a letter to the doj and federal trade commission that fans would have to spend almost
00:20a thousand dollars to watch every game last season through cable and streaming this was of course
00:25over the air for as long as we can remember but with streaming over the last five to ten years
00:29and games appearing on peacock and prime and everywhere else it costs a lot of money not to
00:33mention the nfl's red zone channel has gone up hundreds and hundreds of dollars to the point
00:38where i got out and stopped paying for the red zone so we'll see if anything happens with this but
00:43does seem to me that the nfl will just you know look at this and move on pay some money

00:48all right as i mentioned the master is underway how about rory mcelroy he leads the field right now
00:53five under par hasn't teed off yet today sam burns was the big story yesterday as well he's also five
00:58under par so that's where we stand kurt kitiyama three under jason day three under as well uh
01:05patrick reed is also among the leaders and as far as today is concerned uh really none of the leaders
01:11have teed off except windham clark is now two under par so we'll add him to the leaderboard he's
01:17through 14 he teed off in the morning in the morning he is having one of the best days at
01:22least

02:30not sure when he would clear but it does appear as though uh the philadelphia 76ers could be without
02:35him for whatever playoff games they end up playing starting next weekend meanwhile the knicks beat the
02:40celtics 112 to 106 it appears as though uh jason tatum's return was uh not successful to madison
02:47square garden he had 24 points last night jalen brunson had 25 the knicks now only trail the
02:52celtics by two games for the number two seed in the east there are two games to go and it
02:56would seem
02:57like the knicks have a shot at this here's mike brown on the direction the team is headed

04:46we're getting to know each other even more i know it's the end of the season but when that continuity
04:49is always building that chemistry is always building so yeah i like what we are raptors sweep the season

08:16the state of ohio i think a lot of folks are wondering uh have we uh were we trying to
08:21put you
08:22know the genie back in the bottle so to speak they got sports betting legal in ohio and now all
08:26of a
08:26sudden it feels like with everything that happened with the cleveland guardians by the way is leading
08:30to this but the state of ohio may want to stop having online sports betting after having it legalized
08:36after all this time what's going on here yeah greg you had just this week three republican lawmakers
08:43in ohio unveiled what they're calling the save ohio sports act they had a press conference which had a
08:49lot of fanfare and really has been talked a lot about in the industry popping up in headlines not only
08:55do they want to get rid of online sports betting and limit it to casinos they want to get rid
08:59of all
08:59player props all live betting all parlays college betting and then limit bettors to a hundred dollars
09:06per day and eight bets within 24 hours so obviously very unfavorable terms uh for the industry here
09:13uh it comes you mentioned the uh the cleveland guardians case with uh the alleged um you know
09:19manipulating pitches to profit from micro bets we saw the mlb come out with reform there and changing
09:25the kind of bets you can place on legal sports books uh but the lawmakers have been pretty vocal
09:31about you know the benefits of the industry in terms of taxes not outweighing uh what they're calling
09:36you know a mental health risk uh an impact on problem gambling in the state of ohio they've talked about
09:42uh calls to the ohio uh gambling hotline doubling or more than doubling rather since ohio legalized
09:48sports betting back in 2023 governor mike dewine has called it his biggest regret as governor he's uh doubled
09:55the tax rate on sports betting he's tried to uh double it again um but this really comes as you
10:02know the
10:02sports betting industry itself faces like you mentioned this potential blowback potential putting
10:08the genie back in the bottle with sports betting now i don't think this measure really has any chance
10:12of passing i think that's kind of the important thing to to talk about here but the fact that we
10:17are
10:17seeing now multiple states propose you know not just prop bet bans but getting rid of online sports
10:23betting altogether really shows um kind of the pushback that the industry is facing right now
10:28and uh kind of the crisis it has to make sure in the public spotlight um that it's being viewed
10:34accurately and uh that it's working with lawmakers on you know common sense proposals um like we've seen
10:40in a bunch of other states i'll note as well you know we talked about earlier this week louisiana
10:44having a similar prop bet ban proposal getting rid of it once they realized how much uh money they were
10:50going to lose in the state but more so how much it was just going to kind of move all
10:54of the
10:55potentially problematic bets that they're talking about here offshore or to prediction markets and
11:00places where the states really can't interact so again i don't really think this will go anywhere in
11:05the state but it is notable considering like you mentioned you know it's a state where the cleveland
11:09guardians case happened and it's also the governor has been very vocal about regretting uh legalizing
11:16sports betting plus ohio is a really big state so uh it's not great to see this kind of thing
11:20pop up
11:21we'll see how that matriculates into headlines or laws definitely not
11:29in ohio right now all right uh we lost sam there for a second we looks like we got him

11:35focus on our next topic here which is polymarket and some of the prediction markets like calci as well
11:42who have offered different war bets meaning you can place predictions on the outcomes of war and
11:50even the fate of u.s service members i gotta tell you sam i was stunned to see that this
11:54was even
11:55offered by some of the prediction markets so i'm hoping they do put an end to this one that's my
11:59personal opinion yeah it's hard to disagree with that craig i think that's kind of what everyone
12:06especially in congress is saying right now with uh these offshore prediction markets specifically i think
12:12it's important to note that you know kalshi is a cfdc registered exchange despite uh people contending
12:18what it's doing being legal or support so that's the control it is something it is really only offered
12:29all right sam uh sam we love you man but uh the internet today is not your friend unfortunately

12:41participation of course basically what sam was getting into was the idea that uh right now these
12:46prediction markets are offering things tied and related to war and death and they sort of feel like
12:52uh you know at least the cftc may feel and some lawmakers feel that it could be time to put
12:57these to
12:58bed and maybe focus on some other things like sports and entertainment and uh movies and uh you know
13:04and gas prices and things of that nature so that does make a ton of sense there uh all right
