00:00Thousands of men are paying to spy on their wives and girlfriends,
00:03and the tools they're using are cheaper than Netflix.
00:06Here's what's happening.
00:07A new bombshell investigation just exposed a massive underground network
00:11where an overwhelming amount of men are buying and selling spy services.
00:16All targeting women they actually know.
00:19Wired is reporting on new research from a group called AI Forensics,
00:22which spent six weeks digging through nearly 2.8 million messages
00:26inside 16 secret telegram communities.
00:29What they found?
00:30More than 24,000 members all buying and selling ways to get into someone's phone,
00:35their photos, and their private accounts.
00:37And most of the targets weren't random.
00:39They were wives, girlfriends, women these guys actually knew.
00:43Posts were openly advertising things like, quote,
00:46I can get into your partner's phone gallery,
00:48or send me a message, I'll spy on her account for you.
00:51Researchers found more than 18,000 posts relating to spying,
00:55and access to these groups as cheap as $5 a month.
00:58One of the researchers behind the study told Wired that most of the victims
01:02are ordinary women who have absolutely no idea this is happening.
01:05That's the part that's going to keep you up at night.
01:07We picture these hackers as strangers in a dark room somewhere,
01:10but this research says that the person most likely spying on you is right next to you.
01:14So here's the big question.
01:15If the biggest threat to your privacy is someone you already know,
01:18should platforms like Telegram be doing more to shut it down?
