00:00Hey Penny, come on in. Hey guys. See you Penny, pick her up and all the day you'll have good luck.
00:07To all the single men out there, the next time you're trying to shoot your shot,
00:12maybe don't try Howard Swag or lack thereof from the Big Bang Theory.
00:18You look so good I'd marry your brother just to get in your family.
00:22Or maybe don't try the Fresh Prince of Bel Air's line either. Have you ever thought of a simple
00:28may I meet you? It's something billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman says he has sworn by
00:35and claims he almost never got rejected. But men on the internet are rejecting that proposal
00:42hard. Flooding his comments on X with hilarious replies.
00:49Ackman took to X writing, I hear from many young men that they find it difficult to meet young
00:54woman in a public setting. He blames online culture and wanted to share a few words from his youth to
01:01meet someone he was interested in. He'd ask, may I meet you? Before engaging in further conversation.
01:08One ex-user wrote, I tried this at the coffee shop. She said no. With a gif of someone preparing to harm
01:14themselves, to which Ackman replied, try again. You need not fear being rejected. Wrong girl for you,
01:20her loss, your gain. Another user posted a meme with a perfectly chiseled man labeled Bill Ackman
01:27$10 billion net worth with text reading, just go to her and ask her out. You only need confidence.
01:34Cut to the bottom panel of a scruffy, exhausted Wojak image labeled X users asking, are you sure?
01:41And while Ackman's net worth does sit just under $10 billion, according to Forbes,
01:46he says when he used that line as a younger man, he quote, didn't have two nickels.
01:52Others used memes to suggest the line only works if you're fit, handsome, or both. Some users just
01:58think the whole thing is hilarious, but Ackman says the combination of proper grammar and politeness is
02:04what makes it effective. It may not be as outdated as it sounds. Online telehealth platform HIMSS conducted a
02:11study and found that 82% of Americans say they met their significant other in person. And even Gen Z,
02:18the most online generation, reports 77% meeting IRL. Someone even turned the tables, asking Ackman
02:27himself, may I meet you? He replied with a swift, I am taken. So for now, it's just something the
02:34internet is having a little fun with, but Ackman clearly swore by this technique before he was married.
02:40He even says it works for same-sex relationships, friendships, and for women trying to approach
02:47men. And I'm just wondering if it works for anything else like, husband, may I please get a new laptop
02:56for Christmas? We'll see. I'm Kennedy Felton with Straight Arrow News. For more on this story
