00:01You little punk. You don't talk to him that way.
00:05What are you gonna do?
00:06I'm gonna call your father.
00:08Heads up!
00:10Give me my ball back.
00:12You know, Stan, I feel sorry for you.
00:14Stan's a bully. Why?
00:16See, according to leading psychiatrists,
00:18Stan's a bully for one of three reasons.
00:20Underneath all of that male bravado,
00:22there's an insecure little girl
00:24just banging on the closet door trying to get out.
00:27And the third reason,
00:28Stan has a small wiener.
00:34Don't hurt yourself, big boy.
00:36The movie opens in 1989.
00:38Mike O'Donnell, a handsome high school basketball star,
00:41is practicing his shots alone in the gym.
00:43Coach Murphy walks in and tells him to take it easy.
00:46A scout is coming to tonight's game,
00:47and Mike is a shoe-in for a scholarship.
00:49The coach calls all the players over for a team photo,
00:52but Mike asks them to wait for Ned, the water boy.
00:55The others scoff, but Mike insists.
00:57Ned's part of the team.
00:58Ned Gold walks in, dressed in a wizard robe,
01:01having just finished playing Dungeon Master with some other geeks.
01:04The other players laugh at him, but Mike,
01:06his best friend, defends him and tries to show support.
01:09They line up for the photo,
01:10and just as the camera clicks,
01:12one of the jocks gives Ned a wedgie, making him jump.
01:14Before the game, the Hayden Warriors cheerleaders perform their routine.
01:18Mike joins in, dancing and posing for the cheering crowd.
01:21As he gets ready to play,
01:23he spots his girlfriend, Scarlett, waving from the rafters.
01:25He runs over to hug her and talks about how much this game means to him,
01:29how the scholarship could define his whole future.
01:32He even shows her a special shooting pose he's prepared just for her.
01:35But Scarlett seems hesitant.
01:37Mike asks what's wrong, and though she tries to brush it off and suggest they talk after the game,
01:41he presses her. She finally tells him what's on her mind.
01:44The news clearly hits him hard. He looks completely dazed.
01:48The game starts, but Mike's head isn't in it.
01:50He stands still on the court, dribbling the ball absentmindedly, lost in thought.
01:54His teammates, coach, the scout, and the crowd all watch in confusion as he does nothing.
01:58Then he sees Scarlett leaving. In a split-second decision, Mike tosses the ball over his shoulder,
02:03shocking everyone, and runs after her.
02:05The coach watches as the scout symbolically closes his notebook.
02:08Mike catches up to Scarlett and tells her he wants to be there for her.
02:11She says he has a future ahead of him, but he replies that the baby is his future.
02:15She tries to walk away, but he kisses her, ending the conversation.
02:18Cut to 20 years later, Mike wakes up in his buddy Ned's house.
02:22Ned is now a billionaire, and his place is packed with geeky collectibles.
02:26He even cosplays as an elf, complete with rubber ears.
02:29As they eat breakfast, they talk about how Scarlett kicked Mike out,
02:33they're going through a divorce, and how his kids want nothing to do with him.
02:36Ned tries to cheer him up by pointing out the positives.
02:39You're looking at Scarlett kicking you out of the house, and the kids want nothing to do with you as
02:43a negative, when in fact.
02:44But can't seem to find any.
02:46I guess it's mostly negative, isn't it?
02:47Still, Mike's up for a big promotion at his pharmaceutical company, where he's worked for 16 years, and he's excited
02:53about that.
02:54At Wyatt Pharmaceuticals, Mike sits in a meeting where his boss, Dean, introduces a new drug that gives a four
03:00-hour erection.
03:01Everyone else at the conference table is an attractive woman.
03:04Dean brings up the topic of the promotion, and everyone perks up.
03:07Mike!
03:08Yeah, Mike, if you could just slide to your left so I can congratulate our new RSM Wendy!
03:12To Mike's shock, Dean announces the promotion has been given to one of the women.
03:16As they celebrate, Mike sits there stunned.
03:18After the meeting, Mike confronts Dean.
03:20He reminds him that he's been with the company for 16 years, while the woman just joined a few months
03:24ago, and that he has the best numbers on the team.
03:27You should think of it as a compliment.
03:29Think of it as us saying, you're just too valuable to promote.
03:33But Dean brushes him off to take a phone call.
03:35Furious, Mike rips out Dean's Bluetooth earpiece and smashes it against the wall.
03:39As the celebrating women get into the elevator, Mike stands there, holding a box with his things, clearly defeated.
03:45It's implied that he's been fired.
03:47Mike drives to his old high school, Hayden.
03:49He walks into the empty gym and stands on the basketball court, lost in thought.
03:53He then looks at the trophy case in the hallway and finds his team photo from 1989.
03:58The school janitor comes by and recognizes him.
04:01He says Mike was a high school star who never lived up to his potential.
04:04People come back, he says, to relive their glory days.
04:07Mike admits the past was better for him.
04:09The janitor asks if he wants a do-over.
04:12Mike, full of nostalgia, says, yes.
04:14The janitor smiles.
04:15You're sure about that?
04:16The bell rings and Mike's daughter Maggie appears in the hallway with her friends.
04:20Mike turns around.
04:21The janitor is already gone.
04:23He says he came to take Maggie and her brother out for ice cream.
04:26Why?
04:26And basically forces them to come with him, come along.
04:29He drags the kids to an ice cream shop clearly meant for little kids.
04:32Mike, Maggie, and Alex sit quietly at a table.
04:35Neither Maggie nor Alex is happy to be there, especially not with their dad.
04:39What's the matter, Maggie?
04:40This used to be your favorite place.
04:41We used to come here for your birthday.
04:43Yeah, when I was like eight.
04:45Maggie pointedly puts in her earphones while Alex keeps his eyes glued to his PSP.
04:49Mike tries to talk to Alex about how basketball is going, assuming he's on the school team.
04:54Alex plays along just to get him to back off and then shifts the conversation to Maggie.
04:58Uh, Maggie got into Georgetown.
05:00Mike tries to congratulate her, but she acts like she's lost in the music,
05:03though her earphones aren't even plugged in.
05:05He drops them off at home.
05:06They both head inside without saying a word.
05:08In the yard, Mike sees Scarlett throwing his stuff into the wood chipper.
05:12She tells him she's redesigning the yard as a showcase for her new landscape design business.
05:17He asks her not to touch the yard.
05:18He's put a lot of effort into it.
05:20She reminds him that all he did was start building a half-finished barbecue pit,
05:24which he worked on for half an hour.
05:25And then you spent the next two days complaining about if you had gone to college,
05:29then you could have hired someone else to do it.
05:31Same with the hammock, which has been lying around half-assembled for years.
05:34I think you quit that one because you just decided not to try anymore.
05:38She says she's tired of hearing him complain for 19 years that he ruined his life because of her.
05:43Mike admits he's disappointed with his life.
05:45I never asked you to marry me.
05:46Yeah, but I did.
05:48Offended by his words, Scarlett snaps that at least now they're no longer holding each other back.
05:53Scar, I'll see you at court, okay?
05:54Just then, Scarlett's friend Naomi arrives.
05:57Mike and Naomi clearly don't get along.
06:00Mike.
06:00Naomi.
06:01Naomi.
06:01I don't care.
06:02She encourages Scarlett to start dating again, telling her it's time to get back on the market.
06:06Scarlett says goodbye to Mike and goes back inside.
06:09Depressed, Mike walks out.
06:10Just as it starts to rain, he drives through the storm and his car radio begins to glitch,
06:15flipping through stations rapidly.
06:16At one point, he hears the janitor's voice on the radio.
06:19You're sure about it?
06:20As he drives over a bridge, he spots a man standing on the edge, looking ready to jump.
06:25Mike slams on the brakes and shouts out.
06:27The man turns.
06:28It's the janitor from Hayden High.
06:29At that moment, a truck blocks the view.
06:31When it passes, the janitor is already gone.
06:34Mike runs to the edge and looks down.
06:36To his shock, he sees a whirlpool in the water, his younger self reaching up toward him.
06:40Suddenly, Mike slips and falls in.
06:42Later, Mike shows up at Ned's house, soaking wet and covered in mud.
06:45He stands under the shower, rinsing himself off.
06:48Then he looks into the mirror and screams.
06:50He's back in the body of his 17-year-old self.
06:53Ned wakes up in his Star Wars-themed bed, startled by the scream.
06:56In the bathroom, Mike stares at his reflection in disbelief.
07:00Ned sneaks into the room wearing a Spartan helmet and holding a battle axe.
07:03Seeing the young stranger, he assumes it's an intruder and swings.
07:07Thanks to the endless supply of geeky weapons in Ned's house, they end up having a full-on scuffle.
07:12Mike tries to explain who he is, but Ned is too freaked out to listen.
07:15Mike's younger, faster, and more agile, so he holds his own.
07:20Oh, wow. I feel great.
07:23They end up sword fighting with lightsabers.
07:24Mike brings up specific memories only the real Mike would know.
07:28You have an unscented testicle.
07:29Googleable!
07:30But Ned, being a wealthy and well-known guy,
07:32suspects it's just someone who stalked him online and memorized the details.
07:36Eventually, Mike overpowers him, but Ned fakes surrender,
07:39then kicks Mike in the groin the moment he lowers his guard.
07:42Just as Ned's about to knock him out with a picture frame,
07:45he catches a glimpse of the graduation photo from 1989.
07:48Him and Mike together.
07:49Oh, my God.
07:50Oh!
07:51A little later, Ned pieces things together using all his comic book knowledge and pop culture references.
07:56Are you now or have you ever been a Norse god, vampire, or time-traveling cyborg?
08:02I've known you since, what, first grade? I think maybe I would have told you.
08:05Vampire wouldn't tell. Cyborg wouldn't know.
08:07Were you at any point shot by a gamma ray?
08:08No.
08:09Exposed to gamma radiation of any kind?
08:11No, Ned.
08:12No.
08:12Wouldn't see it.
08:13Shut up.
08:14Through a process of nerdy deduction,
08:16he concludes that Mike must have gone through a spirit guide transformation magic.
08:20He explains that some sort of spirit guide has probably sent Mike back to set his life on the right
08:25path.
08:26Which is what?
08:26What do I look like, your spirit guide?
08:28Mike realizes the janitor must be his spirit guide.
08:31The janitor.
08:32Still wearing older Mike's dirty, oversized suit,
08:35Mike races back to Hayden High.
08:37He frantically asks the students if they've seen the janitor.
08:39He finds a female janitor who tells him she's the only one working there.
08:42There's an older guy with white hair.
08:44I showed him.
08:45Showed him this picture of me.
08:46You?
08:46Yeah.
08:47That picture's from 1989.
08:49Right.
08:50Forget it.
08:50As she walks away, Mike notices Alex.
08:52He calls out to his son.
08:54But Alex runs off like a scared puppy.
08:56Suddenly, the hallway lights begin to flicker.
08:58Mike notices he's standing in a puddle.
09:00Following the trail of water, he finds a mop and bucket left outside a room.
09:04He peeks in and sees it's the basketball court.
09:06Mike returns to Ned and excitedly announces that he knows what he needs to do.
09:10He's going back to high school.
09:11Ned is skeptical, but Mike believes that his spirit guide gave him a second chance.
09:16Ned says it's ridiculous.
09:18No spirit guide would waste magic just so Mike could relive his senior year.
09:22Ned was bullied in school, so there's no way he's going to help Mike or go back to Hayden.
09:26Hayden was the low point of my existence, and I vowed I would never go back to that God-forsaken
09:32place.
09:32Never, ever, ever!
09:33Cut to the next scene.
09:34Ned, dressed up and standing in front of the school secretary, pretending to be Mike's dad.
09:39As they wait for a meeting, Ned criticizes Mike's outfit, calling it weird.
09:43Mike proudly says it's a cool look.
09:45He's channeling Kevin Federline's style.
09:47Are you sure these look legit?
09:48Yeah, look who you're talking to.
09:50I'm the guy who invented the software that prevents people from stealing music.
09:53I also invented the software that helps people steal music, but that's a happy coincidence.
09:56They enter the office of Principal Jane Masterson.
09:59Ned is stunned the moment he sees her and hears her beautiful voice.
10:03He immediately starts imagining her as a character from The Lord of the Rings.
10:07Ned tries to flirt with her, but, being a nerd, he does it in the most awkward way possible.
10:11Mike introduces himself as Mark, Ned's son.
10:14Before we get started, I think you should know that Mark's a bastard.
10:17Excuse me?
10:18I had him out of wedlock, so I'm single and I'm very rich.
10:23Jane is impressed by his transcripts and accepts him into the school.
10:26As they wrap up, Ned keeps the cringe going.
10:29He even asks permission to smell her hair.
10:31Mike is dying of second-hand embarrassment.
10:33I think now would probably be a good time to tell you that I don't date my students' parents.
10:36And quickly drags Ned out of the office.
10:39Walking through the halls, students stare at Mike's Kevin Federline-inspired outfit.
10:43But after being so smitten with the principal, Ned is now fully on board.
10:46He decides to help Mike with everything, so he takes Mike shopping.
10:49And the least I can do is make sure that my fake son doesn't look like a total douche.
10:53I don't look like a douche.
10:54What a douche.
10:55Welcome to the bottom of the food chain.
10:57The next day, Mike arrives at school in a Ferrari, dressed in stylish clothes.
11:01His daughter's friends are clearly impressed.
11:03On his way to the building, he catches the eyes of other students.
11:06Then the bell rings, and the hallways fill with students who bump into him as they pass by.
11:11Before the class, Mike gets a call from Scarlett.
11:13He's late for their divorce hearing.
11:15She puts him on speakerphone so everyone in the courtroom can hear him.
11:18He tries to lie, claiming he's out of the country in Peru.
11:20But in the background, cheerleaders can be heard chanting.
11:23So would you consider maybe dating a 10th grader?
11:26I think we could go for full custody.
11:28He sees Maggie walk into class and asks Scarlett to postpone the hearing,
11:32saying he's closer to the kids than she realizes.
11:34Mike waves at Maggie, and she looks completely confused.
11:37Why is the new kid waving at me?
11:39I don't know.
11:40But if that boy were an apple, he'd be a delicious.
11:42Later during gym class, Mike discovers that he still has all his old basketball skills.
11:47Thrilled with how in shape he feels, he tells the other kids to enjoy their youthful bodies.
11:52Because in 10 years, they'll all have giant bellies.
11:55Wait, do it again?
11:56No way.
11:56Never mind.
11:57Coach Murphy, now 20 years older, spots him.
11:59Oh, wow.
12:00You're still here?
12:01What?
12:02You're a legend.
12:03Murphy says it's his last year teaching, and encourages Mike to try out for the team as a point guard.
12:08In the bathroom, Mike calls Ned to share the good news.
12:11Ned responds by asking Mike to get in trouble so that Principal Masterson will be forced to meet with him
12:16again.
12:16After they hang up, Mike notices Alex, duct taped to a toilet.
12:20Shocked and furious, Mike asks who did it.
12:22Alex says it was the basketball team.
12:24Mike is surprised to learn that his son isn't even on the team, and is treated like a total loser.
12:29Mike introduces himself as Mark Gold, his uncle Ned's son, and starts peeling off the duct tape to free Alex.
12:34They head to lunch, where Mike tells Alex that they should look out for each other.
12:38This is what practically family.
12:40Alex seems interested in a girl named Nicole, the head cheerleader.
12:43Mike tries to give him advice on how to act around women.
12:46You know, Alex, when I first met your mother, I was so nervous.
12:49You met my mother.
12:49What?
12:50You just said the first time I met your mother, I was so nervous.
12:52Yeah.
12:53Oh, that's weird.
12:54Is your mom hot?
12:55Dude, what?
12:55Just then, the basketball team, led by Stan, walks into the cafeteria, shoving smaller kids and stealing their lunches along
13:02the way.
13:02Mike asks if that's the guy who taped Alex to the toilet.
13:05Alex says yes, and even adds that Stan shoved him into the washing machine at their house yesterday.
13:10What was that jerk doing at your house?
13:12Alex explains that his sister Maggie is dating Stan.
13:15Maggie has a boyfriend?
13:17When Mike sees Maggie and Stan kiss, he's clearly upset.
13:20I'm very disappointed in your sister.
13:22And honestly, who could blame him?
13:23What kind of person dates a jerk who bullies your little brother?
13:26Stan approaches their table and starts pushing Alex around.
13:29Mike stands up for him, scolding Stan in a mature, authoritative tone.
13:33Stan tries to provoke him, but Mike responds with a cutting lecture on bullying, verbally humiliating Stan in front of
13:39everyone.
13:40Then, just to top it off, he shows off his dribbling skills, intimidating Stan, and earning cheers from the whole
13:45cafeteria.
13:46Back at Ned's place, Mike eats junk food, specifically a sandwich made with chocolate spread, mayonnaise, pickles, chips, and cheese
13:53spread.
13:54Mmm, could really go for something like that right now.
13:56As he eats, he laments the state of his kids' lives.
13:59His son is a punching bag, and his daughter is dating a bully.
14:02But now, it all starts to make sense.
14:04He realizes his spirit path is to help his kids.
14:07He drives over to his ex-wife's house and spots Alex in the yard, shooting hoops.
14:12To Mike's surprise, Alex is actually pretty good at basketball.
14:15He realizes that Alex should be on the basketball team.
14:17That's part of his mission.
14:19Just then, Scarlett and Naomi pull into the driveway.
14:22Alex introduces Mike as Mark, Ned's bastard.
14:25Scarlett is startled when she sees Mike.
14:27He looks so much like her husband.
14:29She grabs his face and pulls on his cheeks, remarking how uncanny the resemblance is.
14:34Naomi quickly drags her away, encouraging her to start dating again.
14:37Okay, you wait here.
14:39I'm gonna smell him.
14:39No, no, no, no.
14:40You're not allowed to smell teenagers.
14:43Naomi even begins explaining how to move on in very specific detail.
14:46This annoys Mike, and he throws the basketball at her, then quickly apologizes,
14:51while still politely scolding her for trying to set up a married woman.
14:54If this were Afghanistan, she'd be dragged through the streets by goats with her hands coat off.
14:58I'm just saying.
14:59Naomi.
14:59Naomi.
15:00I don't care.
15:01The next day at school, Mike walks into class and finds Stan and Maggie kissing.
15:05He awkwardly interrupts them and takes a seat.
15:07The topic of the day is abstinence.
15:09Mike jumps in and says it's a great idea, suggesting that everyone should make a pact to abstain from sex.
15:14The class bursts into laughter and disbelief.
15:17The teacher, knowing abstinence likely won't happen, shifts the lesson to safe sex and passes around a box of condoms.
15:23Mike is horrified when Stan grabs a whole handful.
15:26Mike says he doesn't need any.
15:27He'll only have sex with the girl he loves.
15:29You know why?
15:30You know why I don't need one?
15:31Because there's no one that I'm in love with.
15:33It's called making love, isn't it?
15:35Maybe I'm old fashioned.
15:36And sex should be reserved for married couples who want to have children.
15:39You know when you're ready to take that love and turn it into a baby.
15:43Because that's what love is.
15:44It's that first moment when you hold your baby girl.
15:47And you didn't know that anything could be so small or so delicate.
15:51And you feel that tiny heartbeat.
15:53And you know that you couldn't love anything more in the whole world.
15:57And you hope that you can do right by that little girl.
16:00And always be there to catch her when she falls.
16:02And that nothing ever hurts her.
16:03Not a broken arm or a bad dream or a broken heart.
16:08Some of the girls are visibly touched and begin returning the condoms.
16:11But then Stan grabs even more.
16:13And forcibly kisses Maggie.
16:15Furious, Mike lunges at Stan.
16:17The two get into a fight.
16:18But Mike ends up getting beat down.
16:20The entire fight is captured on students' phones.
16:22And spreads through the school like wildfire.
16:25Mike is called to the principal's office along with his dad, Ned.
16:28Who shows up dressed to impress.
16:30Mike asks him what on earth he's wearing.
16:32To the untrained eye, I look like a total idiot.
16:34You do, in fact.
16:35But it's actually a seduction technique.
16:37Known as peacocking.
16:39Inside Jane's office, Ned tries his outlandish peacocking technique to flirt.
16:43Are you peacocking?
16:44Really?
16:45You think that's gonna work?
16:46I think it's just mine.
16:48Later, Mike stops by Scarlett's house and finds her in the backyard.
16:51Preparing for some landscaping.
16:53She walks him through her plans to renovate the yard.
16:55Including adding a pond with water features.
16:58It's gonna be amazing, Scar.
16:59What did you just call me?
17:00I just said it's gonna be amazing.
17:01You called me Scar?
17:02My husband's the only one who ever calls me that.
17:04Mike quickly changes the subject, offering to help.
17:06Volunteer.
17:07I'm young.
17:08I'm strong.
17:09Oh, right.
17:09Got it.
17:10I realized that whole lady cougar hunting.
17:13Mothers I'd like to, whatever.
17:15I didn't even mean it.
17:16In the end, he manages to convince her that he genuinely just wants to help.
17:20Over the next few days, Mike trains Alex for basketball.
17:23Mike also goes out of his way to keep Maggie away from Stan.
17:26Meanwhile, Mike helps Scarlett with the backyard.
17:28At the same time, Ned keeps pursuing Principal Jane, constantly bothering her with his bizarre
17:33attempts at flirting.
17:34He sends her inappropriate gifts and tries to impress her by picking her up after work
17:38in different flashy cars.
17:40But instead of impressing her, it mostly creeps her out.
17:43After days of hard work, both Mike and Alex make the basketball team.
17:46Scarlett congratulates her son.
17:48Mike, acting on instinct, joins in.
17:50Oh, Mark, that's super inappropriate.
17:53Scarlett shows them the finished backyard.
17:55It looks beautiful.
17:57Mike compliments her and encourages her to start a business.
17:59She's flattered by his support.
18:01Then, she tells him she has a date that evening, which includes dancing.
18:05Later, Mike sees her dancing in front of a mirror and asks her to teach him.
18:08He boldly changes the music to a song from their wedding, which confuses Scarlett.
18:13That's the song that my husband and I danced to at our wedding.
18:15A man of good taste.
18:17He crosses a line, getting too close and clearly caught in the moment.
18:20Scarlett tries to refocus him on the dance.
18:23But eventually, they begin dancing together smoothly.
18:26As they dance, Mike asks her about her husband.
18:28If there's any chance they'll get back together.
18:30She says she's pretty sure there isn't.
18:32He pushes further, asking why she's so certain.
18:34Jump.
18:35Ow!
18:35As he spins her in his arms, they're suddenly interrupted by Alex.
18:39Mom?
18:39Yeah.
18:40Who's clearly weirded out by what he's seeing.
18:42Hey, Alex.
18:43I'm your mom.
18:44I'm Alex's mom, Mark.
18:46Yeah.
18:46He tells them her date has arrived.
18:48At the front door, Mike meets the guy and immediately starts roasting him.
18:52Mark.
18:52No, that's okay.
18:53I'm a single dancer.
18:54I'm sorry.
18:54It's totally normal for sons to feel weird when their moms date.
18:58I felt my son.
18:58Then that's weird.
18:59He's clearly upset and tries to talk Scarlett out of going.
19:02Before leaving, she hands him the divorce papers and asks him to give them to Mike.
19:06Assuming both he and Mark live at Ned's house.
19:08Right after Scarlett leaves, Stan shows up to pick up Maggie for a party.
19:12And Mike brings Alex along to the party to keep an eye on her.
19:14The party is at a bowling alley.
19:17Alex is nervous, but Mike reassures him that now he's part of the basketball team.
19:20He has every right to be there and no one is going to mess with him anymore.
19:24They spot Nicole and Alex immediately tries to run away, but Mike stops him.
19:28He tells Alex that he's not a loser and practically forces him to go up to her.
19:32Alex awkwardly approaches Nicole and nervously compliments her.
19:36In the process, he gets too close to a candle and his pant leg catches fire.
19:40He frantically runs off to the restroom to put it out.
19:42While searching for Maggie, Mike gets cornered by three of her friends who try to seduce him.
19:47Maggie's not here, but I am.
19:49And I'm really glad you came.
19:51Okay.
19:52I was kicked off the cheerleading squad for being too flexible.
19:56Okay, sit down.
19:57If you girls don't respect yourselves, then how do you expect anyone else to respect you?
20:03Don't respect me.
20:04No, don't respect me.
20:05You don't even have to remember my name.
20:07There's some other dad's problem.
20:08Mike finds Maggie and sits next to her.
20:10He asks what she sees in Stan.
20:12She casually replies that after high school, she and Stan plan to move in together.
20:15He'll work at Home Depot while she attends community college to be closer to him.
20:19Mike is appalled.
20:20Forgetting that he's supposed to be just a classmate, not her father,
20:23he angrily forbids her from seeing Stan.
20:26There's no way in hell that's happening.
20:27Excuse me?
20:28You think I'm going to let you mortgage your future?
20:30You're going to let you throw away all your hard work for some guy,
20:33some psychopathic guy who doesn't care about you?
20:36I forbid you.
20:37Okay.
20:37Who the hell do you think you are, my father?
20:39The next day, there's a basketball game.
20:42Scarlett is in the audience with her date.
20:43Hayden High is trailing by a few points.
20:45During the game, Mike sees Stan making out with Maggie and gets visibly upset.
20:50Fueled by emotion, he scores a few quick points to close the gap.
20:53With only seconds left, Mike gets the ball.
20:55Coach Murphy orders him to pass it to Stan, and the rest of the team expects him to follow through.
21:00But instead, Mike passes the ball to Alex, who sinks a three pointer, clutching victory for the team.
21:05Alex becomes the star of the game.
21:07Everyone cheers and celebrates, while Stan is left fuming.
21:10Nicole congratulates Alex and leans in to embrace him.
21:13He nearly ruins the moment with his nervousness, not wanting to get her sweaty.
21:17After the game, Ned corners Principal Jane and asks her out to dinner.
21:20She's annoyed by his previous antics, and he tries to win her over by promising to buy every student a
21:25laptop.
21:26She reluctantly agrees, but only under strict conditions.
21:29No flashy gestures, no more inappropriate gifts, and he has to promise to behave himself.
21:34With Ned now busy with the principal, Mike seizes the moment and announces a party at his place to help
21:39Alex impress Nicole.
21:41Later, Mike finds Maggie crying and goes to comfort her.
21:44Tearfully, she tells him that Stan dumped her because she refused to have sex with him.
21:48Mike is immensely relieved and consoles her, but Maggie misinterprets his fatherly support and tries to kiss him.
21:54He quickly dodges and sidesteps the moment, inviting her to the party instead.
21:58Word spreads fast, and soon the entire school knows about the party.
22:01Meanwhile, at a fancy restaurant, Ned tries to act sophisticated for Jane, but ends up blowing it.
22:06He drops the act and speaks from the heart, confessing that he's just a dork trying to impress her.
22:11I'm not even the kind of guy who comes to places like this. I'm a dork.
22:13I'm the kind of guy who spends 10 grand on Gandalf the Grey's quarterstaff from the Two Towers.
22:17Yes, that does make you a dork.
22:18Especially since Gandalf the Grey was only in Fellowship. He returns in Two Towers as Gandalf the White.
22:23To his surprise, she turns out to be just as much of a nerd as he is.
22:27They start speaking elvish to each other.
22:29Do you want me to?
22:30What do you want me to say?
22:31And Ned is completely blown away.
22:33Back at the restaurant, Ned and Jane are still deep in elvish conversation.
22:37It all leads to her flirtatiously asking, your lair or mine?
22:41We'll take the check.
22:42That evening, all the students swarm to Ned's house for the party like flies on crap.
22:46Mike sees Alex finally hitting it off with Nicole.
22:49Stan shows up drunk at the party and tries to apologize to Maggie.
22:52She brushes him off, telling him she's with someone else.
22:55Mike steps in and warns Stan to leave before he calls the police.
22:59Stan insults Maggie, pushing Mike to take a swing at him.
23:01He misses, and Stan knocks him out with a punch.
23:04When Mike regains consciousness, he finds his head on Maggie's lap as she caresses him.
23:09Horrified, he pulls away, but she playfully jumps on him, thinking it's a game.
23:13To stop her, he tells her he has another girlfriend.
23:15She accepts it and walks away.
23:17You tell your girlfriend she better keep a close eye on you.
23:22Sweet baby Jesus.
23:23At the party, things are getting out of hand.
23:25Kids are messing with Ned's prized geek collectibles.
23:28Scarlett shows up looking for Alex.
23:30Mike tells her that Alex has a girlfriend now and offers to take her to them.
23:33When Ned finally arrives home, he's furious at the chaos.
23:37He yells at everyone to leave, but the kids ignore him.
23:39Then Jane steps in, gives a firm command as the principal, and the students immediately scatter.
23:44Outside, Scarlett and Mike watch as Alex kisses Nicole.
23:48She's overjoyed, and thanks Mike for being such a good male role model.
23:52As they talk, caught in the moment, Mike suddenly kisses her.
23:55Maggie and her friends see everything in shock.
23:57Scarlett slaps him and storms off.
23:59Mike chases after her, shouting that he's not Mark.
24:02He's actually her husband, the father of her children.
24:04That pushes her over the edge, and she yells at him before walking away.
24:08Then Maggie approaches, calls him a pervert, and slaps him.
24:11Her friends follow her lead, who all slap him too.
24:14Jane turns to Ned and says,
24:15This is why I don't date students' parents, before walking off.
24:18Mike apologizes to Ned.
24:21Okay, now I'm sorry.
24:22I guess I deserve that.
24:24The second one's out of line.
24:25The second one was uncalled for, I'm sorry.
24:26You okay?
24:27I'm really sorry.
24:28Three makes it even.
24:29Now we're even.
24:29How are you? You okay?
24:31Yeah.
24:31The next morning, Ned is cleaning up the aftermath of the party,
24:35while Mike sulks over everything he's messed up.
24:37Ned reminds him he has a divorce hearing in 20 minutes.
24:40Using a police siren, Ned speeds Mike to the courthouse in his Ferrari convertible.
24:44Inside the courtroom, Ned bursts in pretending to be Mike's lawyer.
24:48As always, he's got forged documents to back it up.
24:50And it's a little bit smeared because I sat on it in the car,
24:54not because I printed it out recently.
24:56All right, let's pretend that's real.
24:58But he acts like such a weirdo that the judge orders the bailiffs to remove both Ned and Mike from
25:02the courtroom.
25:02As he's being dragged out, Mike shouts that he has a letter from Mike O'Donnell.
25:06Scarlett asks the judge if she can hear it.
25:08Mike reads the letter, barely holding back tears.
25:11He recalls the first time he met Scarlett and confesses how deeply he loves her.
25:15He apologizes for blaming her for his own failures.
25:18Though he doesn't want to lose her, he says he's ready to let her go if it means she can
25:21move on and be happy.
25:23When he finishes, Mike leaves the paper behind and walks out.
25:26Moved by his words, Scarlett asks the judge to postpone the hearing.
25:29Out of curiosity, she picks up the paper he left behind and sees that it's just the hearing notice with
25:34the date and address.
25:35At Ned's house, Mike shoots hoops and says that his family will be better off without him.
25:39He's ready to move on and go to college.
25:42At Scarlett's house, she flips through their high school yearbook and finds Mike's 1989 picture.
25:47Then, outside in the hammock that Mike finally fixed, she sees his wedding ring and a handwritten note.
25:52In the letter, he apologizes for not finishing what he started.
25:55At the basketball court, just like in the beginning of the movie, Coach Murphy tells Mike there's a scout coming
26:00and that he's a shoo-in.
26:01A team photo is taken.
26:03As the game is about to begin, Scarlett and Maggie enter.
26:06Maggie tells her mom she's planning to go to Georgetown, just like Mike once hoped.
26:10Ned approaches Jane and says he can't lose her and wants to start over.
26:13I have told you before that I am the principal and I can be seen with my students' parents.
26:18Jane, how can you be seen with me when I'm wearing a cloak of invisibility?
26:22After a few Tolkien-style lines, the connection between them sparks again.
26:26The game starts.
26:27Mike looks up and sees Scarlett in the stands.
26:29He makes the same special shooting pose he once made for her.
26:33Understanding what's happening, Scarlett stands and starts to walk away.
26:36Just like the beginning of the film, he sees her near the rafters, about to leave.
26:40The coach, the crowd, the scout.
26:42It's all unfolding the same way.
26:44This time, Mike makes the same choice.
26:46He gives the ball to Alex and runs after Scarlett.
26:49As he leaves the court, the janitor watches with a smile.
26:52Alex is subbed into the game.
26:53Mike runs through the hallway and as he does, his vision blurs.
26:57He's passing through the portal.
26:58Just before he reaches the door, Scarlett appears behind him and asks if it's really him.
27:03It is.
27:03He's back to his true self, her husband.
27:06He tells her he loves her and wants to be with her.
27:08He promises to make it up to her.
27:10Scarlett forgives him and they kiss.
27:12Thanks to Alex, Hayden High wins the game.
27:14A few days later, Mike stops by Ned's bedroom to return his house key and thank him.
27:19But to his surprise, he finds Principal Jane under the covers.
27:22Mike calls her boss because now that Coach Murphy has retired after 20 years,
27:27Mike is the new basketball coach.
27:28Ned gifts him a brand new whistle.
27:30And with that, the movie ends.
27:32I made this video in memory of Matthew Perry and Michelle Trachtenberg.
27:35And yes, I know those cars weren't Ferraris.
27:38I'm just fishing for a few comments like,
27:40wow, this AI slop can't even tell cars apart to help boost engagement.
27:44Let's be clear, every single word in this video was written by me,
27:47a real person who spent four tree days writing this recap.
27:51The only AI used was the voiceover because I've got a heavy accent in English
27:55and I didn't want to torture you with it.
27:56Hope you understand.
27:57Thanks so much for watching and tap on these pictures to check out other recaps I've got ready for you.
