00:00There was a serious incident here in one of our wards at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital shortly after midnight this
00:06morning.
00:07A visitor coming in to see our patient, I'm advised known to the patient, attended the bedside of the patient
00:15and an unfortunate and serious event has occurred, which as you would understand, I can't comment on the details.
00:21It's now a matter of a criminal investigation and the police are actively involved.
00:26I want to just acknowledge that this is a terrible event.
00:30Our patient is well known to the staff, we care about that person very much and our primary interest is
00:37his wellbeing.
00:38He is in a critical condition in our intensive care unit where we're taking very good care of him.
00:43I also want to acknowledge our staff who acted very, very swiftly and promptly.
00:49There were no other patients impacted and there was no impact on our staff.
00:53Obviously, it's a distressing event for them involved and our staff come to work every day to care for patients
01:00and their loved ones and families
01:02and this sort of event is clearly a terrible thing that they've had to tolerate.
