O’Dessa starts with a simple mission. Find a cherished family heirloom. That’s the pitch. Then the movie ships her straight into a strange, dangerous city, where danger isn’t the only problem. Turns out the real chaos is destiny, and destiny has one big weakness. Music. So yes, O’Dessa is basically trying to use songs and fate logic to save the soul of the one true love she meets along the way. Is it subtle? Not really. Is it a little ridiculous in the best and worst ways? Definitely. The film isn’t trying to convince you it’s realistic. It’s trying to convince you it’s fun to watch someone bet everything on the power of a melody, because, sure, why not.

Postapokalypse, aber bitte mit Vintage-Accessoire: O'Dessa will ausgerechnet ein Familienerbstück bergen. Klingt erst mal bodenständig. Dann geht’s in eine Stadt, die so “gefährlich” ist, wie es nur geht, wenn die Drehbuchlogik freie Bahn bekommt. Dort trifft sie auch noch jemanden, der offenbar ihre eine wahre Liebe ist, und plötzlich wird das Ganze zu einer Art Schicksals- und Musik-Problem. Denn O'Dessa muss ihre Töne dazu bringen, das Schicksal zu überzeugen. Oder besser gesagt: es zu testen. Welche Entscheidungen man trifft, um die Seele dieser einen Person zu retten, ist am Ende vielleicht mehr Frage als Plot. Trotzdem: schräge Prämisse, klares Ziel, und jede Menge “Wie bitte soll das funktionieren?”.
