If Iran is willing to negotiate with the United States in good faith, then an agreement to end the conflict in the Middle East is possible, said US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday (April 8).

The US and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan, potentially suspending a six-week-old war that has killed thousands and caused unprecedented disruption to the world's energy supplies. Israel also said it will back the truce which excludes Lebanon.

00:04How do you see the future of education?
00:20The Iranians have agreed to open up the Straits, the United States has agreed to stop attacking
00:24and not just the United States but also our allies have agreed to stop attacking
00:28and that is the basis of this fragile truce that we have, which is now 8 to 12 hours old.
00:35Just in the response that we've seen from various segments of Iran,
00:39you have on the one hand people within Iran who have responded very favorably,
00:43the foreign minister who said, look, we agreed to the United States' terms,
00:48we'll do a ceasefire, we'll do a negotiation, we'll open the Straits of Hormuz,
00:53and then we'll see if we can come to more agreement down the road.
00:55So some of the people have responded favorably and have said the right things,
01:00and then you have some people on social media within their system
01:04who are basically lying about what we've accomplished militarily,
01:09they're lying about the nature of the agreement, they're lying about the nature of the ceasefire,
01:13and so you have just, even within their system, and this is why I say this is a fragile truce,
01:18the final point that I'll say about this is the President of the United States has told me,
01:21and he's told the entire negotiating team, the Secretary of State, the Special Envoy Steve Witkoff,
01:26he said, go and work in good faith to come to an agreement.
01:31That is what he has told us to do.
01:33If the Iranians are willing in good faith to work with us, I think we can make an agreement.
01:38But if the Iranians don't do the exact same thing, they're going to find out that the President of the
01:43United States is not one to mess around.
01:46He's impatient. He's impatient to make progress. He has told us to negotiate in good faith.
03:40A route towards a way that the US military can back out of the war with Iran, but also frame
03:49that as a kind of a victory for the US or a victory for quote unquote peace.
03:56As you know, President Trump would probably like to present to the US people.
04:01And then on the other side, for the Iranian regime, they have certainly managed to survive and they are still
04:07surviving.
04:08So they're also aware that they're kind of under pressure and that ceaseless, you know, continuous escalation is also not
04:16going to get them anywhere.
