00:13Was was it like to get your No-Dogs to publishers?
00:17Er...
00:17If you're designing games for everybody
00:19you're kind of designing a game for nobody
00:21Being an actual player
00:23and then having to go to publishers
00:26and convince effectively bankers
00:28why players want this game
00:30over a battle royale
00:32it's just soul destroying
00:35Relying solely on data
00:36to design games just doesn't work
00:38We don't want to make something
00:40that everyone else is making
00:42We want to make something familiar but new
00:45And this is why War Dogs
00:47isn't built for everyone
00:51People keep saying that War Dogs is going to be a battlefield killer
00:55War Dogs is not a battlefield killer
00:57It's got its own identity
00:59It's fundamentally more tactical
01:02in terms of decision making and pacing
01:03It has higher highs
01:05due to the risk and reward nature of the cash system
01:07Why did you jump?
01:09Got him, got him!
01:10I know! Did I get it? Yes!
01:12But that naturally also comes with lower lows
01:14and friction that you don't see
01:16in smooth-edged AAA releases
01:18Oh my god!
01:20And it's friction that helps shape the game's identity
01:24For a lot of our design choices
01:26we use this scale to help guide
01:28when something is too hardcore
01:29or too arcadey
01:30So if you're trying to explain the game to your friends
01:33this scale should help you show them
01:35where War Dogs sits
01:37In War Dogs, every life matters
01:40every decision you make matters
01:42and because of that
01:43the game fundamentally has levels of friction
01:46Your loadout has a cost
01:47which means every life has a value
01:49so the more equipment you take in
01:51the more death can hurt
01:52War Dogs has no squad spawn system
01:55so you can't just respawn on your friends
01:57you have to make your way back to them
02:00War Dogs has realistic gunplay
02:04Bullet drop, penetration, ricocheting bullets
02:06we have a lot
02:07It just means that you have to think before you pull the trigger
02:11This is all friction
02:12a publisher will tell you puts people off the game
02:14forgetting that it's the challenges
02:16that give games identity in the first place
02:19War Dogs' core session loop is addictive and replayable
02:22but the metagame is a work in progress
02:25Let us show you what we'll be building
02:27while we're in early access
02:28and why you will be able to continue to play War Dogs
02:32for years to come
02:38Throughout a season in early access
02:40you'll be able to optionally exchange your banked cash you've earned
02:44for in-game gold bars
02:46Gold bars are the end-game currency
02:48that you use to purchase end-game cosmetics
02:50that become permanently unlocked on your account
02:54Now, here's where things get spicier
02:56The exchange rate of cash to gold bars will fluctuate daily
03:00which means every time that you log in
03:02you, alongside the rest of the community
03:04will have a choice
03:05Do you invest now?
03:07Or do you buy in the dip?
03:08At the end of a season
03:09your cash and XP progression will reset
03:11with your cash auto-converted into gold bars
03:14This will allow newer players to be on a more level playing field
03:17with veterans and us as developers
03:19to overhaul the mayor progression throughout early access
03:22Your gold bars and cosmetics from a season
03:24will stay permanently on your account across seasons
03:27On top of the core loop
03:28we'll have the following features planned
03:30which will permanently reward your time spent in the game
03:36Player skills will give you a meaningful way
03:38to build permanent account value across seasons
03:40By simply playing the way that you want to
03:42you'll earn skill points every time that you rank up
03:45Whether you're a medic looking to revive faster
03:47an infantry player refining weapon handling
03:49or a pilot optimizing fuel efficiency
03:51you can invest your skill points into the roles that match your play style
03:55This incremental but permanent progression ensures that veterans can feel their efforts paying off
04:03The challenge system will provide extra short-term goals
04:06as a way to reward exploring different play styles
04:08earning you additional resources for your account
04:11which can be invested in the black market
04:14Now this is a big one
04:16We want you to be able to spend your earnings in more interesting ways outside of the match
04:20so you're geared up for the next time you play
04:22or your mates come back online
04:23That can mean bribing an arms dealer to smuggle you weapons or ammo overnight
04:28or dealing with the seedy underground of culture and placing wages
04:31betting you can kill 10 enemies in one life in the next match
04:35For timestrap players, we want to add the ability to invest your cash and upgrade your own businesses
04:40Hear me out
04:41Having your side hustle businesses making you items
04:44for the next time you and your mates get back online to play
04:46is the true end game
04:48Buying out a weapon or a vehicle manufacturer
04:50will enable you to produce custom loadouts and items
04:53that you like to use the most
04:55cheaper than the in-match vendor
04:56And remember, this is a 100% player-driven sandbox
05:00If you're really business savvy
05:02you should consider unlocking high-level items
05:04and then selling them to other players in the match via supply crates
05:08with your own markup to make a profit
05:10or just compete and sell them cheaper than the guy next to you
05:13The black market meta features will be entirely optional
05:16if you just want to run a gun and earn your cash that way
05:18But for the players who want to min-max their cash spending
05:21and time spent in and out of the game
05:23there's a real potential to profit more over a season
05:26compared to someone only buying weapons and vehicles from the in-game vendors
05:32Finally, we have the vault
05:34Every gold bar, item, weapon or vehicle you obtain from the black market
05:38ends up in your personal vault and is redeemable for free in future matches
05:43The size of your vault will be capped but upgradable permanently
05:46Another end game goal for you to optionally work towards
05:49The meta game is the thing that packages up War Dogs
05:52as an experience players can stick with
05:54Like we said, it's not already on day one
05:57This is something we're building during our time in early access
06:00but it's something that has been designed and the foundations are in
06:03This is not a pipe dream
06:05Let us know in the comments what you think about the meta game
06:07and if it's something you could see yourself getting into
06:11There are many more features we want to add to the game
06:14alongside the usual content drops, balance patches
06:17and quality of life updates throughout early access
06:20But it will take time as we develop towards the full release
06:22and console versions of War Dogs
06:24We have over 350,000 wishlisters already on Steam now
06:28So we're preparing for a strong early access launch later this year
06:31But we're also expecting a drop off
06:33That's completely normal for most games
06:35War Dogs isn't being built for everyone
06:38It's being made for players who really get what we're trying to do
06:41With the recent discourse around player numbers
06:44With various high profile AAA flops
06:46We want to make sure we're realistic about our own expectations
06:49for the War Dogs community straight out of the gate
06:51As we don't need the same profits massive AAA releases do
06:55to keep the lights on
06:56If War Dogs settle somewhere between 3,000 to 10,000 daily concurrent players
07:00That's success to us
07:01Look at games like Squad and Hell Let Loose
07:04Games that launched with a strong identity
07:06and knew the players they were making the game for and why
07:09Still being played by thousands of players every day
07:11years after their release
07:13That level of community support for War Dogs will keep servers active
07:17and the community will always be able to play and host their own servers no matter what
07:21Every additional copy sold to a new player will be directly funding future content
07:26It's that simple
07:27You buy the game, you play it
07:29and we can keep building upon the early access foundations we're talking about right now
07:33long into the future
07:43And we haven't forgotten
07:45The winner of our custom War Dogs branded 5090 graphics card is Spears91
07:50Our community manager Lossie will be in touch with you in the coming days to sort out getting this to
07:54you
07:54War Dogs is available to wishlist on Steam now
07:57and anyone can sign up to our closed playtests
07:59In the meantime follow us on Steam and X for all the latest updates as we head towards early access
08:04later this year
