00:00:08Big city, bright lights, this is the place where stars are born, baby.
00:00:15More idols have come through this town than anywhere else in the world.
00:00:19The best singers in the country are here to put on a show.
00:00:26But the thing is, this city has no idea what's about to happen.
00:00:31Hollywood Week has arrived in Music City.
00:00:41And the lights are brighter than ever.
00:00:47With the band behind them, it's time for our idol hopefuls to face the music.
00:00:55Hollywood Week in Nashville, outstanding.
00:00:59Music City is like holy ground.
00:01:00The energy in this city is different.
00:01:02It's super nerve-wracking, but super exciting.
00:01:04Hollywood Week in Music City just feels surreal.
00:01:08They'll have one song, one shot to leave it all on the stage.
00:01:13My life could be changing right now.
00:01:16Buckle up, y'all, because this is American Idol.
00:01:21I'd like you to knock me out.
00:01:27One hundred twenty-seven of the nation's most talented singers have graduated to the next step in this already epic
00:01:35season.
00:01:37Hollywood Week, Music City, takeover.
00:01:40We just had auditions.
00:01:43Moving right into Hollywood Week.
00:01:45This is the earliest they've ever went right in there with the full band.
00:01:49One shot, some of them have never played with a band in their lives.
00:01:54Okay, here it goes.
00:01:55Some people can handle that, and some people can't handle that.
00:01:58We're out for blood.
00:01:59Each hopeful will sing for the judges.
00:02:02And more than fifteen hundred eager idol fans.
00:02:04It'll come here.
00:02:06Throughout the day, the judges will stop down.
00:02:08Alright, what do we think?
00:02:09Deliberate, and begin making some tough decisions.
00:02:13It's sink or swim.
00:02:14For most, this is where the dream ends.
00:02:17I'm not sure if that was the right song.
00:02:20Bring it on!
00:02:22I love it!
00:02:27But for the best of the best, the journey will continue.
00:02:31Your dreams are still alive.
00:02:33Into the all-new Golden Room.
00:02:36Where the only thing to do is wait.
00:02:39Still in the race for the top 30.
00:02:41But nothing is final.
00:02:43We got more bloodshed coming.
00:02:45Because the decision that matters the most comes at the end of the round.
00:02:49We're out for blood.
00:02:50We're gonna be looking for that next level
00:02:54that instantly goes from American Idol stage to that Grammy Award winning artist.
00:02:58And that's what we're looking for.
00:03:01Hollywood Week Music City Takeover starts right now.
00:03:05Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready?
00:03:09Say hello to your judges.
00:03:13Let's get this party going.
00:03:17Oh yeah!
00:03:19Coming all the way from Alabama, here's 26-year-old Brian Thomas!
00:03:25Yeah!
00:03:26Yeah!
00:03:26Yeah!
00:03:27Yeah!
00:03:35My last audition was pretty cool.
00:03:37Don't look at me.
00:03:38We're not looking.
00:03:40Okay.
00:03:41No one had really seen my face before my audition.
00:03:44So it was great to finally be able to step down into the spotlight.
00:03:48Wow.
00:03:49Wow.
00:03:50Everything after that just felt like magical.
00:03:53Hey!
00:03:54So.
00:03:55Yes, yes, yes, yes!
00:03:58Ah, congratulations!
00:04:02Welcome to my hometown.
00:04:05Mobile, Alabama.
00:04:07Mobile, Alabama.
00:04:09I started supporting myself completely off of music with a band of guys.
00:04:14You know, we played three to five shows a week.
00:04:17So I'm used to performing on stage, but never in such a beautiful theater as this or being
00:04:23in front of that giant live band.
00:04:27It's nerve-wracking, but this is my opportunity to really, like, show people who I am.
00:04:33I'm going to be singing.
00:04:34I'm going to be singing Champagne Problems by Taylor Swift for you guys.
00:04:37Oh, wow.
00:04:39Okay.
00:04:39Oh, my God.
00:04:45You booked the night train for a reason, so you could sit there in this hurt.
00:04:56Bustling crowds of silent sleepers.
00:05:00I love it.
00:05:01You're not sure which is working.
00:05:06Because I dropped your hand while dancing, left you out there standing, crest falling on
00:05:15the landing.
00:05:17Champagne problems.
00:05:18Your mom's ring in your pocket, my picture in your wallet
00:05:24Your heart was glass, I dropped it, champagne problems
00:05:31From the Chevy North, November flush in your flannel coat
00:05:36This storm was once a madhouse, I made a joke but it's made for me
00:05:41How? Evergreen, our group of friends, don't think we'll say that word again
00:05:47Then soon they'll have to go through the deck of halls that we once walked through
00:05:52Two one for the money, two for the show, I never was ready, so I watch you flow
00:05:58Sometimes you just don't know the answer, someone's on their knees and ask you
00:06:03You could have made such a lovely bride, what a shame she's stuck in her head, they said
00:06:09But you'll find the real thing instead
00:06:11You patch up your tapestry that I shred in
00:06:15Hold your hand while dancing
00:06:18Never leave you standing
00:06:21Crest falling on the landing
00:06:24With champagne problems
00:06:32Thank you guys so much
00:06:35Oh yeah
00:06:36Passionate
00:06:37Oh yeah
00:06:39Look at it
00:06:40Look at it
00:06:40Look at it
00:06:40Look at it
00:06:42Look at it
00:06:57On top of it
00:06:57It's so soulful
00:07:00Very cool
00:07:00Thank you
00:07:01Very cool
00:07:01Thank you
00:07:03For now, Bryant will have to wait to learn his fate in the competition
00:07:07This year, the judges will watch groups of performances back to back
00:07:10Very cool
00:07:11Then, they'll deliberate and deliver results
00:07:13All adding up to the biggest cut in Idol history
00:07:17Alright
00:07:18Kill it
00:07:19Did they clean up the glasses?
00:07:20Did they get them?
00:07:21I hope those were truck stop glasses
00:07:24Who's next?
00:07:26Carey
00:07:26Who we got?
00:07:27Who we got?
00:07:29Alright, here we go
00:07:31This is a really big moment for me
00:07:32I'm ready to get out there and just do what I gotta do
00:07:36Never in a million years I thought I would be here
00:07:39The audition with the judges went really good
00:07:42It was such a vibe
00:07:43Oh boy
00:07:44Hi Miss Carey
00:07:45Hi
00:07:46And just having my son on the Idol journey has been a joy
00:07:50What you been through
00:07:52God only knows what they say about you
00:07:55I've been doing music for six years
00:07:58I've had a lot of ups and downs and I was doubting myself
00:08:01But I never gave up, that fire was still burning
00:08:04You want it bigger?
00:08:05Yeah, I want it bigger
00:08:06Oh, I'll make sure we're bigger
00:08:08I just want to pour out my heart at that
00:08:09Oh, let's go
00:08:10The song I'm singing today is I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz
00:08:14It speaks to me
00:08:15Because the first thing I thought about is just me and my son
00:08:19So when I sing the song, I'm singing to him
00:08:21I think at the very beginning
00:08:23I want you to sing it like you're singing a lullaby
00:08:25Mm-hmm
00:08:26Like you're rocking him to sleep
00:08:29Just really simple
00:08:31I do want to be somebody for my son
00:08:33I want him to know
00:08:35You can do anything you put your mind to do
00:08:37You want to come watch your mom?
00:08:39With me?
00:08:40Okay, come around this way
00:08:45You sit in my seat
00:08:46Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for Keilah Richardson!
00:08:56My name is Keilah and I'll be singing
00:08:58I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz

00:17:05like I knew I would
00:17:07you look like a star and you have such a big big voice but I had trouble picking up a
00:17:13lot of those lyrics because of the bending and the rounding out and the back phrasing and all that but

00:17:22okay

00:18:34take an angel by the way
00:18:36I was there to the very end
00:18:39ask her for the strength to stay
00:18:44dear dad
00:18:45I've lived so much life since you've been gone

00:19:21how did you get here
00:19:33nobody's supposed to be here
00:19:38I've tried that love thing for the last time
00:19:46but when I turn around
00:19:50again love has knocked me down
00:19:55my heart got broke
00:19:57you know it hurts so bad
00:19:58I'm sad to say
00:20:01love wins again
00:20:03so I place my heart under lock and key
00:20:06to take some time and take care of me
00:20:10but I turn around
00:20:13but I turn around
00:20:13and you're standing here
00:20:18standing here

00:21:24making this so difficult
00:21:26where are we putting all these people
00:21:27it's time for the judges to discuss what they've heard
00:21:30I had her as a yes
00:21:31you think?
00:21:32she had the wrong song
00:21:34that was the wrong everything
00:21:35this year they will first decide
00:21:37if our hopefuls have shown enough potential
00:21:41make it here to the golden room
00:21:42and you're still in the mix for a spot in the top 30
00:21:45otherwise it's the end of the road
00:21:48alright
00:21:49you know I'm sad to see this one go
00:21:51but for those who've made it here
00:21:54they can't get too comfortable
00:21:55because more dramatic cuts
00:21:57are just around the corner
00:21:59I've always dreamed of being in a position like this
00:22:02so
00:22:04it's so hard having to cut this many y'all

00:25:28Thank you so much.
00:25:32Fire.
00:25:34Up next to perform and hoping for a similar reaction from the judges, 21-year-old rocker Madison Moon.
00:25:42I've been performing since I was very, very little.
00:25:46I grew up listening to rock.
00:25:48My dad loves hard rock music and I always listen to it with him.
00:25:53My dad bought my first guitar and I still use it today.
00:25:56Both of my parents are musicians and it's just amazing to have them see me do my thing.
00:26:03Coming up next, get up audience for Madison Moon!
00:26:08I am very excited to see Carrie again.
00:26:11I'm actually doing a song that she did when she was on the show.
00:26:15I'm going to be doing Alone by Heart.
00:26:17When I saw Carrie's idol performance of Alone, it introduced me to the band Heart.
00:26:22This is a very challenging song, especially I take it up all steps, so I'm doing it a key higher.
00:26:29It's kind of insane that I'm going to sing it in front of Carrie, so I'm hoping for the best.
00:26:41I hear the ticking of the clock
00:26:45I'm lying here, the room's pinched off
00:26:53I wonder where you are tonight
00:26:57No answer on the telephone
00:27:04And the night goes by so very slow
00:27:09Oh, I hope that it won't end all
00:27:15How long
00:27:23Till now
00:27:25I always got my heart on my own
00:27:29I never really got it till I met you
00:27:35And the night shows me till I know
00:27:39How do I got you in love?
00:27:45How do I got you in love?
00:27:50How do I got you in love?
00:28:02I love you
00:28:13You did it!
00:28:16You did it!
00:28:19Carrie did that song on the show a while back.
00:28:22Now, what is she going to say about that?
00:28:26You are the only person on planet Earth
00:28:30who has ever raised the key on that song.
00:28:35All I got to say is dang.
00:28:43Wow.
00:28:44Oh, my God.
00:28:45I just sang in front of Carrie Underwood again.
00:28:49Raised the freaking key.
00:28:52I didn't know it was possible to do that.
00:28:54Now it's judgment time for Jordan and Madison.
00:29:00No matter what happens, man, that is the best that I've ever done.
00:29:05I got a bloodbath.
00:29:06We're a little more brutal.
00:29:07Cutting them in half, and then we got to do another half.
00:29:11Jordan.
00:29:13Madison.
00:29:15Your dream is still alive.
00:29:17Thank you very much.
00:29:25That's crazy.
00:29:26I was not expecting that.
00:29:27Oh, my God.
00:29:32I'm really proud of myself.
00:29:38It's just insane that this is such a huge cut.
00:29:42And for me to be considered to be in the top 30, it means the world.
00:29:46So Madison is the first of our rockers to get to the Golden Room.
00:29:50And after that, it was time for the male rockers to take the stage.
00:29:54Music City, you ready to rock?
00:30:10So you know I'm in your corner.
00:30:12I feel like we had a few hiccups in there.
00:30:20It felt like he shouldn't miss anything on that song.
00:30:28I mean, you got to keep it high energy rock and roll, right?
00:30:31What's rocking, baby?
00:30:32Here we go.
00:30:42You're just a good time, Noah.
00:30:45I don't come down to, like, the Broadway bars, but I would come if you were playing.
00:30:50Oh, my God.
00:30:52Is every girl crazy about a sharp-dressed man?
00:30:56I'm good.
00:31:00Rock can do no wrong when he carries us.
00:31:03That's not true.
00:31:04I mean, he did the moonwalk in boots, people.
00:31:06He moonwalked.
00:31:10I don't know.
00:31:11He might be someone people want to get behind.
00:31:14But, I mean, is he going to be a contender?
00:31:17No.
00:31:20Brett, step forward, please.
00:31:24Noah.
00:31:28I'm sorry, but your journey with us ends right now.
00:31:34They canned me.
00:31:36I think I'm going to follow him on Instagram after this.
00:31:40The crowd started cheering, and I completely lost my spot a couple of times, but it's all good.
00:31:45It was awesome to be a part of the whole thing.
00:31:48I'm losing my rockers.
00:31:49You know I'm sad.
00:31:51Cheers.
00:31:52God bless America.
00:32:00Make some noise for Trace Casanova.
00:32:03Come on, Trace.
00:32:04Come on.
00:32:06Oh, boy.
00:32:07Here we go.
00:32:08Oh, yeah.
00:32:10Mike, Michael, Michael, raise your hand if your name is Michael.
00:32:14Oh, we got one over here.
00:32:16All right.
00:32:16Is that good?
00:32:17Thank you, everybody.
00:32:18That concludes our mic check.
00:32:24Let's swing it, boys.
00:32:38I can't believe you got me in it, then.
00:32:40Living as far away.
00:32:45Oh, yeah.
00:32:47Going off the rails on a crazy train.
00:32:51Oh.
00:32:53I know that things are going wrong for me.
00:33:01You gotta listen to my word.
00:33:07Yeah, yeah.
00:33:09Yeah, yeah.
00:33:09Going off the rails on a crazy train.
00:33:16Woo!
00:33:17Going off the rails on a crazy train.
00:33:38No!
00:33:40No!
00:33:41No!
00:33:43No!
00:33:45Trace.
00:33:46What are you doing?
00:33:48I mean, I mean...
00:33:49Trace is just being Trace.
00:33:51I mean Trace.
00:33:52I mean, I love it.
00:33:53You kill it, man.
00:33:55Thank you, Trace.
00:33:59Are y'all on drugs?
00:34:01Sir, you're stirring the pot out there with those guys.
00:34:04That's what we do, man.
00:34:05Yeah.
00:34:05I'm glad I'm good at this because I can't serve tables.
00:34:07Well, either they want to rise or they want to fall.
00:34:10It's kind of making our decisions easy.
00:34:12Cuts.
00:34:12Yeah.
00:34:14Audience, please put your hands together.
00:34:16Coming all the way from Dorado, Puerto Rico.
00:34:19Rowan!
00:34:22Rowan!
00:34:26Since my audition, I actually flew back to Death Valley, did my 8th hour shift at the Desert Outfitters bike
00:34:35shop.
00:34:35These are the prices for the e-bikes.
00:34:38For me, it's very important to keep this job because my housing situation is tied to my job.
00:34:45It's for adjusting if it's too small or too big.
00:34:48Risking my living situation for this opportunity is scary.
00:34:53One day, these mountains are tired of standing.
00:34:59Today, I'm going to be singing California by The Great Chapel Rowan.
00:35:04This song, California, talks about moving from your hometown to pursue your dream and not wanting to let your family
00:35:10down.
00:35:12This is basically the anthem of my life.
00:35:14The risk that I'm taking right now to pursue my music dreams.
00:35:19When I step on the stage, I'm going to be thinking about that plane flight that I took from Puerto
00:35:25Rico to California.
00:35:28My brother dropping me off, giving me a hug, telling me, you can do this.
00:35:36Go and make us proud.
00:35:40I stretch myself across four states, new lands, west coast where my dreams lay.
00:35:55I trade amber clay roads for the sea foam and the endless sun rays.
00:36:09Because I was never told that I wasn't going to get the things I want the most.
00:36:16But people always say, if it hasn't happened yet, then maybe you should go.
00:36:24Come get me out of California.
00:36:28And all these are brown.
00:36:31I miss the seasons in Missouri.
00:36:35My dying town.
00:36:37I thought I'd be cool in California.
00:36:42I'd make you cry.
00:36:45I don't think I almost had a going.
00:36:49But I made you cry.
00:36:55Come get me out.
00:36:59Come get me out.
00:37:02Come get me out.
00:37:33You were holding that note at the end, I said, okay, okay, that was fabulous, but let me tell you
00:37:38something.
00:37:38You have a natural stage presence that you can't teach.
00:37:42I think you did a great job.
00:37:46I'm not fully satisfied with my performance.
00:37:50I kind of messed up on the lyrics.
00:37:53I feel like I could have done much better, if I'm being honest.
00:37:57I think she missed a note if she tripped on the sequence of the lyrics.
00:38:02That's my favorite song.
00:38:04Like, I know it completely by heart.
00:38:05It was just the nerves.
00:38:07Maybe it got too excited.
00:38:09It is done.
00:38:12You're okay.
00:38:17Welcome back to American Idol, where 25-year-old stay-at-home mom, Hannah Harper, is taking the stage.
00:38:23Hannah!
00:38:25I loved her, didn't I?
00:38:26How are you guys doing tonight?
00:38:30Man, I'm Hannah Harper from Southeast Missouri, and I want to be the next American Idol because I want to
00:38:35be the forerunners for mamas out there who can still raise babies and pursue their dreams.
00:38:45I didn't see any other dream outside of just raising a house full of kids.
00:38:50My youngest is one, and shortly after he was born, I had postpartum depression.
00:38:54And so I was sitting on my couch wallowing, and my son kept coming up to me.
00:38:57He said, Mom, open my cheese.
00:38:58I'm like, do you leave me alone with the dadgum cheese?
00:39:01And I finally opened his cheese, and when I did, I realized that God had put me in that place
00:39:04and that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have.
00:39:08When I'm overwhelmed and touched out, they come climbing up on the couch saying, Mama, can you open my string
00:39:19cheese?
00:39:20I was excited that Carrie had an emotional connection to the song because she's in the same position.
00:39:24She's a boy mom.
00:39:25Well, that's about the most relatable song I think I've ever heard.
00:39:28And what nobody knew was how her original song would quickly become one of the most viewed clips in idle
00:39:35history.
00:39:36The string cheese song.
00:39:39So relatable.
00:39:40Touching hundreds of millions of people across the world.
00:39:44Are you kidding me?
00:39:45A song called String Cheese has me sobbing.
00:39:49Can you open my string cheese?
00:39:51The sweetest song I've ever heard in my whole entire life.
00:39:53And I smile because I don't believe you.
00:39:55It was so encouraging to me.
00:39:57So thank you, Hannah, because I really needed it.
00:40:04I'm okay.
00:40:07You're my string cheese.
00:40:12You're one that I'm going to think about when we leave here.
00:40:15Like, I wonder what song she's going to sing next.
00:40:17And I feel like I'm going to be just rooting for you.
00:40:30I had to leave my life in Dallas.
00:40:35That town will always be you.
00:40:43Every crowd on in every corner and every face I see you.
00:40:53Oh, but I can't turn this thing around.
00:40:58And nothing short of breaking down is going to get me off this road that I'm on.
00:41:05But I'm going anywhere as fast as I can.
00:41:11I'm a little past, a little rock, further down the line.
00:41:17Too soon to know what's up ahead.
00:41:20Too late to change my mind.
00:41:23Gotta keep my heart out of this with both hands on the wheel.
00:41:29Learning more with every mile.
00:41:32Just how living feels.
00:41:34It's a lonely stretch, a black top, out into the blue.
00:41:39Don't know where I'll go or what I'll do.
00:41:45I'm a little past, a little rock, but a long ways from over you.
00:41:57I'm a little past, a little rock, but a long ways from over you.
00:42:15Thank you guys so much.
00:42:16She has one or two little hiccups, but her tone is amazing.
00:42:19Yes, she did.
00:42:21Oh, Hannah, you know you, you're one of my favorites in auditions.
00:42:25Leigh Ann Womack's not an easy person to sing.
00:42:27It's like you listen to it and it's so nice, but you don't realize how intricate
00:42:31the things that she does with her voice, and I feel like you just nailed that.
00:42:35Thank you so much, I appreciate it.
00:42:41Man, I thought I had it.
00:42:42You must have felt great about that performance.
00:42:44I was very excited about the performance.
00:42:45I just wish I wouldn't have messed up the words.
00:42:48You did?
00:42:48Damn it.
00:42:49Did we even notice?
00:42:50I don't think anybody noticed.
00:42:51I didn't notice.
00:42:52I noticed.
00:42:53Man, I was beating myself up.
00:42:55She jumbled lyrics, too, and got through it.
00:42:57And she handled it and didn't even bump.
00:42:59Yeah.
00:43:01I'm real worried right now.
00:43:04I got excited.
00:43:05I forgot the words.
00:43:06Didn't come in on the right spot, but I sure hope I did enough to make it to the next
00:43:09round.
00:43:13With another group of performances in the books.
00:43:16All right, okay.
00:43:17All right, what do we think?
00:43:18Our hopefuls wait to see if they've done enough to survive the judge's first round of cuts.
00:43:24We got so many to go through.
00:43:26We got so many to go through.
00:43:26That's exactly what I was saying.
00:43:27Not her?
00:43:28I don't know.
00:43:29What do you think?
00:43:30Whew.
00:43:31There's a lot at stake right now.
00:43:33I'm very eager to show the world that even a girl from Puerto Rico can do anything.
00:43:38It's the end.
00:43:39I think this guy's time to go.
00:43:41I think he just didn't rise to the occasion.
00:43:44It makes me sad, though, because I feel like it's in there.
00:43:46I hate this part.
00:43:48Oh, Lord have mercy.
00:43:51Oh, hang in there, kid.
00:43:53Hang in there.
00:43:54So hard.
00:43:55So hard.
00:43:57Ruel.
00:44:01Trace.
00:44:04Hannah.
00:44:09You are still in the running to become the next American Idol.
00:44:14Uh-uh.
00:44:14I'm sorry that your journey just ends right now.
00:44:19Was there happy tears?
00:44:22Yes.
00:44:22I did it tears?
00:44:24Yes.
00:44:25You wouldn't even understand.
00:44:27I didn't have an idea.
00:44:28I'm getting the picture.
00:44:31I was scared.
00:44:32I was terrified.
00:44:33I didn't think I was going to get it through.
00:44:34Let's do it.
00:44:37What's with that wind?
00:44:39It's a winner's breath.
00:44:40I don't know, man.
00:44:41Winner's breath.
00:44:42Oh, God, dude.
00:44:43All right.
00:44:44So much fun.
00:44:45So our hopefuls can celebrate for now.
00:44:48But they'll have to wait with the others until the end of the round
00:44:51when the judges make their final decision on who's made it into the top 30.
00:44:55I'm scared.
00:44:56Everyone's so crazy talented.
00:44:58Some of us are going home.
00:45:00I would like it not to be me.
00:45:02Being here in the golden room and knowing that so many people are going to get cut,
00:45:06it's kind of scary.
00:45:06But I think the pressure is good and it will help me get through this stage.
00:45:14All right.
00:45:15Who's next?
00:45:17This is a tough board, man.
00:45:20We'll see what they do.
00:45:23It's a lot more than three people sitting at a table.
00:45:26A lot more.
00:45:27Yeah.
00:45:31He was struggling with them.
00:45:33I don't know why.
00:45:34He's just got the voice.
00:45:36It's the nerves.
00:45:38Probably.
00:45:39We had people in auditions that were confident, spitfires.
00:45:44And we gave them some feedback.
00:45:47It was a little shaky to start.
00:45:50And it's like they fret and worry and overthink everything that we told them.
00:45:57I think the nerves might have compromised just how good of a singer you are a little bit.
00:46:03Did we scare him?
00:46:04I think we did.
00:46:05I really hope I did enough to make it.
00:46:09Sorry.
00:46:09Can you take the pressure?
00:46:11That's the business.
00:46:15My knees are shaking, dude.
00:46:17What's up, bro?
00:46:18Oh, my God.
00:46:18Your knees are shaking?
00:46:19Yes, my knees are shaking.
00:46:21With my audition the first time, I had my hands in my pockets.
00:46:24Take your hands out your pocket and look the folks straight in the face.
00:46:29Yeah, I got to make sure I keep those out.
00:46:30Don't put them back here, though.
00:46:32There you go.
00:46:33Are you going to hold a microphone?
00:46:35Yeah, yeah.
00:46:35That takes care of one.
00:46:36Yeah, there you go.
00:46:37It's what to do with the other.
00:46:40Yeah, that's a good...
00:46:41There you go.
00:46:41I mean, that kind of thing.
00:46:43I need to show them more of my charisma, I guess, on stage.
00:46:47And I hope they'll be able to see me move around a little bit more and be more of an
00:46:50entertainer.
00:46:51How you holding up?
00:46:53I'm not too confident.
00:46:55You don't have to do a crazy one.
00:46:57I enjoy insurance.
00:46:58I enjoy helping families out.
00:47:01But at the end of the day, music's my first passion.
00:47:04And that's why I'm here.
00:47:10Something's got a hold of me lately.
00:47:12No, I don't know myself anymore.
00:47:18Feels like the walls are all closing in.
00:47:22The devil's knocking at my door.
00:47:26Out of my mind, how many times did I tell you?
00:47:31No good at being alone.
00:47:35It's taking a toll on me.
00:47:38Trying my best to keep from tearing the skin off my bones.
00:47:43Don't you know?
00:47:46I lose control.
00:47:53We are not next to me.
00:47:58Don't fall in, don't fall right in front of you.
00:48:02Can't you see?
00:48:04I lose control.
00:48:10When you are not next to me.
00:48:16I lose control.
00:48:18When you are not next to me.
00:48:18Don't fall in, don't fall right in front of you.
00:48:20Don't you see?
00:48:22I lose control.
00:48:29When you are not next to me.
00:48:34Oh
00:49:06Who possessed you I mean you kind of walk out and
00:49:12Then you open your mouth and you turn in
00:49:16to somebody else
00:49:18And I'm telling you that somebody else we love
00:49:33Oh
00:49:33I mean walked out here you knocked us right out shockers even your eyes are water
00:49:43Yeah, I know almost hurt crime feel like I had to get off stage for America to see the crowd
00:49:48over
00:49:51Man this getting hard like we've had a lot of good ones. I need I need people to start messing
00:49:56up
00:50:04Welcome back to American Idol
00:50:06So far after 52 performances just 19 hopefuls have moved on to the Golden Room
00:50:13Still in consideration for the top 30. They're at least cutting half of us and like I ain't gonna sit
00:50:19here and lie. I'm a little scared
00:50:21Once all 127 have sung
00:50:24Those who remain here will have to survive one more major cut at the end of the round
00:50:30I have heard people sing and there's a lot of very very very talented people here
00:50:35This is the biggest stage that I've ever performed on in my life
00:50:43First time I performed on the stage was just at my piano recital. I was probably about eight years old
00:50:52I thought I had just won a Grammy after I sang that song
00:50:57I don't think my younger self would really believe it that I would be performing on this massive stage
00:51:02My first audition I did guitar but this week showing a little bit a different side of myself
00:51:07I'm gonna have to up my game if I want to get to that 30
00:51:10I'm gonna have to do that for me
00:51:10Thank you
00:51:10Thank you
00:51:10Thank you
00:51:18Georgia
00:51:22Georgia
00:51:23Oh
00:51:25Georgia
00:51:26The whole day through
00:51:33Just a more sweet sound
00:51:37Keeps Georgia on my mind
00:51:49Other on
00:51:53Reach out to me
00:51:56Other I
00:51:59Smile tenderly
00:52:04I still have
00:52:07Peaceful dreams I see
00:52:10The road leads back to you
00:52:15I said Georgia
00:52:23Georgia
00:52:26No peace, no peace I find
00:52:31Just an old sweet song
00:52:37Keeps Georgia on my mind
00:52:45I said just an old sweet song
00:52:53Keeps Georgia on my mind
00:53:09I mean 17 years old
00:53:12Coming out here doing joy
00:53:13You know I'm from Georgia
00:53:14So you're already trying to make me
00:53:17Just sucking up a little bit
00:53:18Play in the room already
00:53:20But uh
00:53:20Thank you
00:53:21You did great, yeah
00:53:23I've heard the rest of the singers in my group
00:53:25It's actually really intimidating
00:53:29Especially because rehearsal has been stressful
00:53:31I could not hear myself at all
00:53:35I couldn't hear anything
00:53:37You walked past the wedges
00:53:38But you were not off pitch
00:53:41Your notes were on
00:53:43But I know myself
00:53:45And I've never sang
00:53:46Not horrible
00:53:48I really want to show the judges
00:53:50Something out of my comfort zone
00:53:52And that's what they asked for
00:53:54You're hitting some high notes in there
00:53:57Yeah
00:53:57But it would be great
00:53:58If you could put some oomph in there
00:54:00Oh, you should see me with a band
00:54:03Maybe I took it too far
00:54:05And I'm doing too hard of a song
00:54:07I just fall
00:54:08I kind of stumble a little bit
00:54:09I just wanted to be good enough for this
00:54:12But it's just starting to feel like
00:54:13I can't do it
00:54:19But right now
00:54:20I'm just trying to remember my Aunt Brittany
00:54:26I think Brittany has always been a very big mentor to me
00:54:29To believe in myself
00:54:31To have the confidence
00:54:32You are ready
00:54:33You're ready for this
00:54:34You were born for this
00:54:35Born for this
00:54:37And that just helps
00:54:39Just remind myself that
00:54:42I am good enough to just be here at this part
00:54:44I really don't want to screw it up
00:54:49At least I look hot when I cry
00:55:01Your love is like a time away
00:55:05Standing over my head
00:55:08It's gonna mean your promises
00:55:11Better left unsaid
00:55:14You're the good kind of singer
00:55:17To release my inner fantasy
00:55:20The events of the winter
00:55:23And you know that you are born to be
00:55:28You're a heartbreaker
00:55:31Dreammaker
00:55:32Love taker
00:55:34Don't you mess around with me
00:55:35You're a heartbreaker
00:55:37Dreammaker
00:55:39Love taker
00:55:40Don't you mess around with me
00:55:40She's giving up
00:55:47Don't you mess around with me
00:56:00Don't mess around with me
00:56:10Don't mess around with me
00:56:11You look like you're about to pass out
00:56:13Or something
00:56:13Towards the end of that
00:56:15It's a fast song
00:56:16Yeah
00:56:17So yes I was trying to keep up
00:56:20But I did my best
00:56:22I know we were like
00:56:23We need some gas
00:56:24And we need some sass
00:56:25And you picked a sassy song
00:56:27Yeah
00:56:28But then I felt like
00:56:29You were just running behind it
00:56:31Kind of the whole time
00:56:32Swallowed up
00:56:32So I feel like
00:56:35I don't know
00:56:35We're processing here
00:56:37But you obviously have
00:56:39Like this huge range
00:56:41To work with
00:56:42And I mean we love you
00:56:44Or you wouldn't be here
00:56:45Thank you
00:56:46Thank you
00:56:47Good job
00:56:47Thank you
00:56:52I actually thought
00:56:53I was pinning a lot
00:56:54Into the performance
00:56:55To sort of hear that
00:56:57It just kind of broke me
00:57:00We're so critical now
00:57:02We have to be
00:57:03We got so many to go through
00:57:05How many do we need to get rid of?
00:57:07A lot of people are going home today
00:57:08I really hope I'm not one of them
00:57:11Didn't we like him?
00:57:12He has a great voice
00:57:13But he gets lost in the moment
00:57:16Right
00:57:17I don't know
00:57:18I just like him
00:57:18Okay
00:57:18It's people's dreams
00:57:20If I call your name
00:57:21Please step forward
00:57:29Filming
00:57:38If I call your name
00:57:39Please step forward
00:57:43Filming
00:57:47Lucas
00:57:50Kira
00:57:55You three are still in the competition
00:57:57Going through to the Golden Room
00:58:01Back row
00:58:02Back row
00:58:02It's the end of the lap
00:58:03Thank you guys
00:58:08The big one there
00:58:10I'm almost cloud down right now
00:58:12Or whatever the phrase is
00:58:13Cloud down, cloud tip
00:58:14Oh my gosh
00:58:16This is huge
00:58:17This is amazing
00:58:17I'm so excited
00:58:18He only called three names
00:58:20And praised B
00:58:21That I was one of them
00:58:23That's painful
00:58:25Is this the end of the road
00:58:26For now, for here?
00:58:27For American Idol
00:58:28For American Idol, yeah
00:58:29But not for Carmen
00:58:30No, of course not
00:58:31No
00:58:31I have to still be
00:58:32My ambitious self
00:58:34And just try to reach
00:58:35For the stars
00:58:39So two of our youngest hopefuls
00:58:41Have moved on
00:58:42To the Golden Room
00:58:44And from there
00:58:45More teenage singers
00:58:46Were proving
00:58:47They came to fight
00:58:49Well I know that
00:58:50There could come a fire
00:58:52From the sky
00:58:54To abide
00:58:57The purestic king
00:58:59Yes, people are always surprised
00:59:02When they hear how young I am
00:59:03And they're like
00:59:04You're 16?
00:59:05I get that a lot
00:59:06But I can sing, okay guys?
00:59:09Like watch out
00:59:10Make it rain
00:59:13Make it rain
00:59:15Now Lord
00:59:16Make it rain
00:59:23Make it rain
00:59:29You know
00:59:30I keep looking at the numbers
00:59:31It says 16
00:59:32I keep looking at the performance
00:59:34And listening to the performance
00:59:35It says 42
00:59:38But more importantly
00:59:39The notes that came out
00:59:41Were amazing
00:59:42Thank you
00:59:43Absolutely amazing
00:59:44I love the performance
00:59:45I know, thank you
00:59:49I'm surprised by all the people my age
00:59:51Honestly
00:59:52I never thought
00:59:53You know, people my age
00:59:54Had this type of pipe
00:59:57Oh, you're such a cute little 16 year old
00:59:59Oh yeah
01:00:00Let's see how he does
01:00:01In the bright lights
01:00:02Okay
01:00:04Everybody's waiting
01:00:05For a break
01:00:07Like fast cause of freedom
01:00:09I'm 16 years old
01:00:11You know
01:00:11I understand this competition
01:00:13Can be a stressful thing
01:00:14To go through
01:00:15But I have what it takes
01:00:16For sure
01:00:17I just want to be loved
01:00:23Oh
01:00:23I just want to be loved
01:00:29Can you tell me
01:00:30Am I worthy
01:00:31Or important
01:00:33Or am I working hard enough
01:00:35We're not expecting you
01:00:37To be anything other than
01:00:39What you are
01:00:3916 year old kid
01:00:41But, uh
01:00:42You're just doing impressive stuff
01:00:44You should be very, very proud
01:00:45Good job
01:00:46I just want to be loved
01:00:55I'm one of two 15 year olds
01:00:56In this competition
01:00:57So I have to step it up
01:00:59And show that
01:01:00I can hold my own
01:01:01Even being so young
01:01:02My audition went really well
01:01:04It was a very emotional audition
01:01:06I wrote this song
01:01:08In honor of Aubrey Wyatt
01:01:10Miss Heather's daughter
01:01:11She was bullied for years
01:01:13And took her life
01:01:14I'm just so moved
01:01:16The way you had your heart broken
01:01:18For someone you didn't even know
01:01:21You know
01:01:23For this round
01:01:24I'll be performing
01:01:25Stay by Sugar Land
01:01:27I've been working for this moment
01:01:29My entire life
01:01:30Are you nervous at all?
01:01:31No ma'am
01:01:32I mean
01:01:32I've been doing this
01:01:33Since I was so young
01:01:34I've been performing
01:01:35In front of people
01:01:36On a stage
01:01:36Since I was 10 years old
01:01:38Make some noise
01:01:38For Chloe Grace
01:01:41Hi
01:01:44My name is Chloe Grace
01:01:46I'm 15 years old
01:01:47And I want to be
01:01:48The youngest competitor
01:01:49To ever win this show
01:01:53Ready to do it
01:01:54And that's what she said
01:01:55I love it
01:01:5615 years old
01:01:58Good lord
01:01:59I'm super ready
01:02:02I've been sitting here
01:02:04Staring at the clock
01:02:06On the wall
01:02:09And I've been laying here
01:02:12Praying
01:02:13Praying
01:02:13She won't call
01:02:15It's just another call
01:02:18From home
01:02:19You'll get it
01:02:21And be gone
01:02:22And I'll be crying
01:02:31What do I have to do
01:02:34To make you see
01:02:38She can't love you like me
01:02:43She can't love you like me
01:03:09And baby
01:03:11And baby
01:03:12Why don't you say
01:03:15And baby
01:03:34Why don't you say
01:03:37In the front part
01:03:38In the front part
01:03:38It seemed like
01:03:39You were pretty nervous
01:03:40But toward the end
01:03:42You really started locking in
01:03:43And hitting your stride
01:03:44I mean
01:03:45You should be so proud
01:03:46Of yourself
01:03:47Good job
01:03:50Anytime you're dealing with a 15-16 year old kid
01:03:53It becomes really, really delicate
01:03:55She was too young
01:03:56She was good
01:03:57Sweet little girl
01:03:58This could be a life-altering moment for them
01:04:02And we want it to alter them
01:04:04In a positive way
01:04:06Not too young
01:04:07Just not ready
01:04:08We hope that it doesn't alter their confidence
01:04:11In who they are as an artist
01:04:14Okay, thank you guys
01:04:14Stand by, please
01:04:15Okay, here we go
01:04:17The following people
01:04:19Step forward, please
01:04:21Aboyomi

01:04:39Thank you very much
01:04:40Love you so much
01:04:54Feeling great, man
01:04:55For real
01:04:56I'm so excited right now
01:04:57Me only being 16
01:04:59I really thought I was out for the count
01:05:01But I guess this just proves
01:05:02It's not just about the age
01:05:04It's about what you got inside
01:05:05And you did it, Aboyomi
01:05:07You broke both the doors
01:05:09And you made it to the next round
01:05:10Thank you
01:05:11Congratulations
01:05:12Yeah
01:05:15Two more of our teens
01:05:16Survived the judge's first cut
01:05:18But it's the end of the road
01:05:20For another
01:05:21So this is it for
01:05:23This time around?
01:05:24Yes, sir
01:05:24I know it's disappointing
01:05:26But there's a lot of future
01:05:27In front of you
01:05:27Thank you
01:05:31It's hard to go home
01:05:32I would have loved to move forward
01:05:35But they felt like it was best
01:05:37For me to go home
01:05:38And work hard
01:05:38And maybe come back one day
01:05:40This is just the beginning
01:05:42We love you
01:05:42We love you
01:05:43We're so proud of you
01:05:44We're so proud of you
01:05:44We're doing great
01:05:51Welcome back to Hollywood Week
01:05:53Music City Takeover
01:05:55Sitting in this golden room
01:05:57Amongst some of the best talented singers
01:05:59On this side of the earth
01:06:00It makes me feel honored
01:06:02To be a part of the chosen one
01:06:05It's blowing my mind right now because I don't know what's coming up.
01:06:08It feels a little tense in the room.
01:06:10There's a lot of good performers that are going up right now, so I'm sweating.
01:06:15Hollywood Week is a slap on your mama's mouth.
01:06:22And I remember the sickness was forever.
01:06:28And I remember the snuffing video.
01:06:34The cold Septembers, the distances we cover, the fistfights on the beach, the busies round us up, do it all
01:06:45again next week.
01:06:48And the boy who kicked Tom's head still bugs me now.
01:06:53And that's the thing with anger that cuts you when you're down.
01:07:01As she wept and wept and wept, love came and died down here.
01:07:07I see my murder, the AWP, see a number.
01:07:12Christ on the floor ain't coming, I'm 17 going under, I'm 17 going under.
01:07:28Oh, I'm 17 going under.
01:07:46You're so ready for this.
01:07:48Yeah, man.
01:07:49That's very kind of it.
01:07:51Even the sound that you chose on that guitar was a really, really cool sound.
01:07:56The way you started in the band, I mean, you're just ready to do this.
01:08:00Let me go win this thing, make an album, hit the road, get a band.
01:08:05You know, it's a little bit bigger of a band than I would normally play with, which is a ton
01:08:08of fun.
01:08:09But I consider myself really lucky that I have had the opportunity to play a lot over the last bunch
01:08:14of years.
01:08:14And I'm hoping that that will get me into the top 30.
01:08:20This is a tough board, man.
01:08:23How are we going to get these people down to 30?
01:08:26I don't know.
01:08:28That's what I'm sitting here thinking.
01:08:30Up next to take the stage is Minnesota hopeful, Chris Tungseth.
01:08:34Being here on American Idol, I mean, it means everything.
01:08:38It's kind of a start of something new for me.
01:08:40It's just like a new season of joy.
01:08:44I love you guys.
01:08:45Love you too.
01:08:46Love you too.
01:08:54I'm doing this for my mom and for my family.
01:08:57And obviously my dad is here with me in spirit.
01:09:00I am so proud.
01:09:02I have an American Idol for a son.
01:09:08So for Hollywood week, I'm going to be singing Jealous by Labyrinth.
01:09:13I'm really excited to hear them.
01:09:16After losing my dad and I heard this song, I was like, oh, this could mean so many things.
01:09:22It's a breakup song, essentially.
01:09:24But when I listen to it after losing dad, I think of you losing dad because there's parts in that
01:09:33song where it's like, I'm jealous of the rain that falls upon your skin.
01:09:41Share your life.
01:09:42Yeah.
01:09:43You know?
01:10:08I'm jealous of the rain.
01:10:38Come on.
01:10:41That ripples through your clothes.
01:10:48It's closer than your shadow.
01:10:55Oh, I'm jealous of the wind.
01:11:03But I wish you the best of all this world could give.
01:11:15And I told you, when you left me, there's nothing to forgive.
01:11:28But I always thought you'd come back and tell me all you found was heartbreak and misery.
01:11:42It's hard for me to say, I'm jealous of the way.
01:11:49You're happy without me.
01:11:55It's hard for me to say, I'm jealous of the way.
01:12:02It's hard for me to say, I'm jealous of the way.
01:12:03You're happy without me.
01:12:18I mean, I felt like that was just kind of captivating, you know, just hanging on every word, wondering what
01:12:25you were going to do with it.
01:12:26You've got that soulful, soft, sensitive thing in your voice, and it's very mesmerizing.
01:12:44I feel like I didn't really like the way he arranged it.
01:12:48Yeah.
01:12:49Yeah.
01:12:50That song typically auditions very well.
01:12:53Yeah.
01:12:54It didn't compliment him.
01:12:56It was a little quick.
01:12:57Mm-hmm.
01:12:58That song, it's supposed to be one that you milk every second of.
01:13:02Yeah.
01:13:02I just had to hone in on what I knew I could do.
01:13:05And I feel like I did that right there, so.
01:13:08We got a lot of cuts to make.
01:13:11Stay tuned for more results in Music City.
01:13:24The thing I love about American Idol is its ability to take normal, everyday people, people that have not been
01:13:33anywhere in or around the music industry, we take those people and give them the opportunity of a lifetime.
01:13:41Being here in Hollywood Week in Music City is nerve-wracking.
01:13:48I have never performed with a big band or in front of anyone except for in church.
01:13:54This does feel like a big opportunity.
01:13:57Stuff like this just doesn't happen to people like me.
01:14:03Growing up in Warrenville, it was very definitely different.
01:14:09It's not very wealthy.
01:14:11It's a very small, very poverty-like town.
01:14:18I did move around a lot growing up.
01:14:20We've probably moved about 10 times.
01:14:22Moving schools a lot, and it didn't really feel like I fit in anywhere.
01:14:26I didn't really have a lot of friends.
01:14:28I know finances weren't always, like, there for us.
01:14:31It was really hard for me to talk about it.
01:14:38Music was the constant in all of that craziness.
01:14:42I always felt limited.
01:14:44Like, I don't have the resources to reach this goal of mine when it comes to music because I've always
01:14:50wanted to sing.
01:14:50I would lay down at night, and I would pray and hope that something would come about, and now I'm
01:15:00here.
01:15:07I'm gonna be singing Girls Just Gonna Have Fun.
01:15:10Hi, Cindy Lauper.
01:15:20I come home in the morning light
01:15:24My mother says what you're gonna do with your life
01:15:29Oh, mama dear, we're not the fortunate ones
01:15:35But girls, they wanna have fun
01:15:38Oh, girls just wanna have fun
01:15:44That's all they really want
01:15:49So far
01:15:54When the working day is done
01:15:58Oh, girls, they wanna have fun
01:16:02Oh, girls just wanna have fun
01:16:07Oh, girls just wanna have fun
01:16:25Oh, girls just wanna have fun
01:16:31Oh, girls just wanna have fun
01:16:55heard you were gonna do girls just want to have fun I was like I can't imagine
01:17:00her voice doing it like Cyndi Lauper did it and then when I heard kind of the
01:17:05moodier version I kind of really got confused because I wanted the original
01:17:09version that Cyndi Lauper did but then I really enjoyed your version but then it
01:17:14got a little sleepy but then I still loved your voice overall there's a lot
01:17:21of emotions that I'm going through right now and I thought that we were all
01:17:25gonna be dancing to girls just want to have fun but I really appreciate your
01:17:30arrangement and when you do want to have fun make sure you come on out here and
01:17:33have a big old time all right thank you
01:17:38I feel like I let myself down I'm so sabotaged really badly I tried to do the
01:17:44best that I could it's almost like she's given up on herself the pressure of the
01:17:50competition has definitely a playing factor and why I feel the way I feel
01:17:54and I don't feel like I did my very best she's got the voice wrong song it's
01:18:01really about pushing myself and wanting to win because I know I can I don't know
01:18:08where she went yeah that's not it here's 22 year old Brayden
01:18:12Ruffin
01:18:22gotta loosen up like I wanted to come out there and just like shake your arms and
01:18:27throw your vest across the room and I think you're a racehorse man are you
01:18:32usually a mover a traveler on the stage a little bit I've had some knee issues so I
01:18:37kind of tend to stay in the same spot how's your knee not too bad I just had
01:18:41two surgeries on these guys in the last year
01:18:47I've had two lower leg realignments the doctors have explained that all your
01:18:53body's resources are going into healing the leg and so you could be susceptible to
01:18:58get sick that sparked something in my head like oh my gosh wash your hands
01:19:03constantly don't touch anybody don't let them get near you no hugs now I'm in a
01:19:09panic mode like I'm going to die now
01:19:16these intrusive thoughts pop into my head that are not real it kind of develop
01:19:20contamination OCD it's really debilitating I had started going to therapy I've made
01:19:28huge strides to getting a lot better Hollywood week that's good for me I can
01:19:38focus on putting my energy into something that is real this performance is
01:19:43gonna be the biggest one of my entire life I'm confident going into it hello

01:22:32It's going to be really, really special.
01:22:38I don't know what to do, man.
01:22:39I'm just like, oh, golly.
01:22:42He may win.
01:22:44I'm thankful for the opportunity, no matter how it turns out, but it seems like it's going
01:22:47to do well.
01:22:48Hang tight right here, folks.
01:22:49Our judges are going to do deliberations, and then we're going to know the results.
01:22:54There's so much at stake, and going into results, there's just so many talented musicians here.
01:22:59Like, I want to be in the top 30 so bad.
01:23:01Pass that old board down here so I can get my attitude right.
01:23:06It probably means more to me than most people here.
01:23:09I've always pulled through any situation I've ever been in.
01:23:14I don't know.
01:23:14This one's different.
01:23:18This is a very heavy class, and all of you have done amazing, amazing work.
01:23:28This is probably the most unprecedented time we've ever had, where we had to just cut talent.
01:23:34But, having said that, will the following people step forward?
01:23:40Jake.
01:23:44Brianna.
01:23:52Brayden.
01:23:55This is something we are charged with doing, so front row.
01:24:04You should be very proud of how far you've come.
01:24:09But for now, your journey.
01:24:15Next Monday, you're in the toughest class we have ever had.
01:24:19It's the conclusion of Hollywood Week, Music City Takeover.
01:24:23You're warm on the edge right now.
01:24:24Some of us are going home.
01:24:26Where we find out who survives.
01:24:29I was trying to kick you out of the room, because I'm so jealous of you.
01:24:32If you were thinking about winning, just keep doing that.
01:24:35And gets in to the top 30.
01:24:37Am I freaking out about it?
01:24:38Yeah.
01:24:39I feel you guys are going to boo me.
01:24:41Bring it on!
01:24:42I love it!
01:24:43I did everything I could.
01:24:45I'm so sorry.
01:24:46I would love nothing more than to be a part of those 30 singers that make it.
01:24:49Let's just hope.
01:24:50Hope and pray.
01:24:52We got more bloodshed coming.
01:24:54We have some sing-offs.
