00:08new college sports dynamic for the spirit of competition it doesn't doesn't resonate with
00:13him the way it once was and i can understand that it is it is rapidly changed college sports have
00:18changed rapidly and as a general rule people don't like change and i don't know that anybody
00:23has been asked to accept more change than college sports fans have because it's it's pretty radical
00:31stuff that we've talked about in the last five six seven years and certainly i don't begrudge john
00:38for feeling the way he does i've said it a whole bunch when the whistle blows when the ball's kicked
00:44or the ball's tipped or whatever and there you are uh i find that i don't enjoy the games any
00:50less
00:52and you know there's there's an element here of being asked to accept all this change rapidly
01:00and there is going to be pushback anytime there's any kind of change
01:04and i just hope they don't you know kill the goose that's laying the golden egg and that's the fans
01:08interest now what the national people always do is cite the tv ratings how the tv ratings are
01:15are through the roof for a lot of these these college sports and you know um
01:20i don't know that that always is a true reflection of everyone's enjoyment but if you're old school i can
01:28understand why you bristle at this now players making money you know it's we don't have evidence
01:36of what has been going on for 50 years i guess in some cases we do but it really feels
01:43like it's more
01:44than a coincidence that the big 10 is surging and maybe the sec's downfall is being a little overplayed
01:52i mean they did win the national championship in college basketball last year but in college football
01:58it's three straight natties for the big 10 and so now the system is set up in a way that
02:04seems to favor
02:04the north and it's funny because i heard someone say that's what it takes to get people to go to
02:10school
02:10there and i'm like actually big 10 schools have the largest graduation basis these are the biggest
02:16schools and hence more grads that can make bigger donations to help support these teams it's a system
02:23that's set up to benefit big 10 school so does it need tweaking sure sure it needs tweaking but at
02:32the
02:32end of the day what indiana football did and what michigan basketball did and you know what's happened
02:38here of late is well within the current rules and and that's you know good for them for taking
02:45advantage of it but you know i hope it doesn't hurt the fans when it's all said and done yeah

02:51i'm different i know i know you yeah and it's fine and we can still coexist on yeah i i'm
02:57not feeling as
02:58strongly about the sports as i used to i don't cheer as lustily as i used to because it does
03:03bother me
03:03uh to a degree because i do think that they need to put up some some guardrails quickly and i
03:10think
03:10something would make me feel a lot better is maybe something they could do quickly and that is
03:15let the players agree to two-year contracts yeah and that way it's not one and done it's not
03:22constantly this revolving door that you're there for two years okay and two years isn't a lot because
03:28it used to be used before now now you're cutting them in half but it's better than one
03:31and i think another part of this that has changed dramatically it's not just nil and the portal
03:38it's coaches are hired to be fired now coaches are being plucked all over the place and and poached
03:44and and brought in you look what's gone on at lsu and you know it and i know this has
03:49kind of always
03:49happened but i don't think it's always happened with this kind of frequency where now coaches aren't
03:54given you're not given four years five years no you're gone after one or two years in some cases
03:59if you're not getting the job done so and and that leads to volatility with the portal too because
04:05there's no consistency so like the previous guy said he was a michigan state fan do you want pat
04:12fitzgerald to build a football program through recruiting or if he can get some big portal ads
04:18and i haven't like i don't follow it like i used to but you know do you want the big
04:23portal ads to
04:24help because because pat fitzgerald is taking over a program similar what dusty may took over yeah i think
04:29it's when you're a new coach coming into a situation you have to lean on the portal because
04:34it's for two reasons one you want to bring in the guys that you can you can get see with
04:39your own
04:39eyes and recruit and and two you've lost a bunch of players to the portal before you even set foot
04:44on
04:44campus so that first year is going to be portal heavy for any coach then for that point i hope
04:51that what
04:51the coach has done whether it's pat fitzgerald well specifically pat fitzgerald because it's my team
04:56in my program i hope that he's built a strong enough base and let people know who he is that
05:04that players will want to commit to him out of high school and stick around there yeah
05:09two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven so one of the topics we there are a couple
05:15things we've introduced today one is who are you happiest for whether it be somebody in your family
05:19whether it be somebody on the team i i've mentioned somebody on the team and certainly you know my kids
05:23my mom and dad and all that and having a chance to get down there on saturday was a lot
05:27of fun but
05:28uh on the team it's elliot cadeau i feel elliot cadeau was the one transfer who was celebrated
05:36by fans on social media when he left this previous stop and social media isn't always a true reflection
05:41of what the real world is but i'm happy to see that kid who i think is selfless and went
05:48out and had a
05:48huge final four and got named most outstanding player on that team i think elliot cadeau would
05:54be the guy that i am happiest for um and then the other thing is about the way michigan won

06:00on the floor it's the kind of team that you honestly dream about a selfless team that plays
06:07both ends of the floor they're coachable they can win the game if you want to get into a track
06:11meet
06:12and last night uh you know the the the yukon huskies a really well coached team put the brakes
06:18on it and and slowed it down low possession game and they want it that way as well i just
06:22got a
06:23text with a picture of michigan's shot chart from last night and it's kind of crazy because
06:31if you look at their success failure rate they hit three shots outside the paint yeah three shots
06:38outside the paint and that is not the style that they played much of the season you can't see it
06:43on the camera but that's when you see something that's that disparate then you take advantage of
06:49it okay let's go back inside because we've got a front court that can score yeah and let's utilize
06:54that and if we have open shots on the outside we'll take them but we're going to try to focus
06:58on the high
06:59percentage shots and nobody was knocking down shots last night for either team but michigan hit a
07:04higher percentage both teams well below 40 percent um but michigan but that's a credit to defense and
07:10it's a credit to knowing what your opponent is and michigan did a great job of kind of a soul
07:15crushing effort there to to yukon i'll still maintain that the game saturday night was for the national
07:20championship arizona was a better there's a better team than yukon yukon slowed things down and they
07:27gave themselves a shot they didn't give themselves a chance but it's still to me as an outsider watching it
07:32never really felt after like the 10 minute mark that that yukon was going to win that game at any
07:39point i just thought michigan's got this they're they're controlling this uh enough and keeping
07:45them at bay enough yeah i got a little tight at the end but even then i just felt like
07:48nah they'll
07:49knock down the free throws and they're going to win this game and they did did a great job they're
07:52the best team in the country uh let's go to matt you're on 97 one the ticket hi matt

08:11go buy the best player available yeah well i mean they draft and recruit yeah but that's the thing is
08:18that those are professional sports and some people like myself don't really want to accept that that's
08:23what college sports has become now it's a professional sport that's all i was just
08:29confusing um people watch other sports and you know advocate to go buy the best player but when
08:35they do it in college everyone you know like their heads on fire well i don't know i mean look

08:40everybody's that way i i don't know if players getting paid money has any impact on what happens
08:47on the court or the the field or the ice or the diamond or whatever it like does that
08:53change in any tangible way the actual games now maybe there's there's um like the one guy called
08:59said the spirit of competition something inside of him is lost and and that's his you know his own

10:04though of course i'm going to watch the game and yes i want them to win because i want to
10:08see playoff
10:08hockey even though i know this team is not built to succeed in the playoffs there's no way this team

10:14built to succeed in the playoffs but i want this team to at least taste what the playoffs are like
10:19and who knows maybe you get a hot goaltender and things go your way i don't know and you're
10:24playing every other night when it happens
