00:41And Winston, well, Winston's not feeling...
00:44You're by my side.
00:45I still made as much green fig salad as usual.
00:48Always gets eaten.
00:49Oh, Sylvie sweetheart, I'm so sorry.
00:53We didn't disturb you, did we?
00:55No, just saying a quick prayer.
00:56Oh, please don't tell me you've got the whole church ready on your own.
01:00I don't mind. I enjoy it.
01:02Yeah, but I told him to be here to help.
01:16So, I think I know what you're going to say.
01:18Despite me specifically asking you...
01:21To arrive early and help Mrs. Godwin with the church.
01:24I'm sorry, I promise it will never happen again.
01:28It will.
01:28I mean, yes, it's very probable.

03:17Hello
03:22Hello
03:24Is somebody there?
03:36Okay, everybody
03:37Come and sit down
03:41Oh, that boy has a sixth sense
03:43You can't get him to come to church on time
03:45But dish up some food
03:47And there he is
03:48What a feast
03:49Looks like a time did just right
03:51Can't wait to dig in
03:52I'm dead for hungry
03:53Miss Sealy
03:55Mama
03:56Y'all good?
03:58Nice to see you, Seb
03:59Right, come everybody
04:00Sit down
04:03Wait
04:04Sylvie's not here
04:06Don't tell me she's still at the church
04:10Yes, ma'am
04:10Good
04:39Good
05:07Good afternoon.
05:09Good afternoon.
05:11we don't often see you here on your own yeah well the Commissioner has been
05:16encouraging me to put myself out more and you've got to do what the big man
05:20says right so I thought I'd try my hand with the Domino's crowd good for you I'll
05:26introduce you it's a lot noisier than how they play back up I mean back there
05:33it's it's more sedate unless some passionate exactly there so often the
05:39way with the English everyone this is Mervin he was looking to play Oscar
05:50maybe you could play with me nice to meet you Oscar nice to meet you um be gentle
05:57with me yeah it's been a while now me you're not working today we are now I'm
06:05afraid got an accidental death coroner is away at the moment so we have to go and
06:10sign off on it Mervin's here it was just about to play his first I mean this game
06:15on the island well okay then nice one mate yeah we should have a rematch sometime yeah
06:30by the 12th or never it's not over ready the man totally thrashed me I was only gone a few
06:36moments
06:36sounds like a hurricane never seen anything like it DS Thomas please tell me we got a new case to
06:44deal with because that was genuinely humiliating we have by St Vincent's church which is Seb's
06:52mother's mother's church he was the one that called it in see you Oscar English
07:05victim named Sylvia Godwin she was 85 years old God bless her I can't believe she's gone just like
07:11that did you know her well since I was a kid she was like auntie to me you know sorry
07:19mate so was she
07:21alone when it happened she stayed behind after service to tidy up looks like she was dusting the
07:27cross and that's that footing and pulled it down with her paramedics reckon she bangs her head when
07:33she landed caused an injury to the brain and you found their body officer Rose mm-hmm me and my
07:40mama
07:41miss Celia she's the head mistress at the church primary school down the road he's Godwin something
07:48isn't right it's not adding up this whole scene in front of it it's just not adding up for me
07:53it's
07:56her shoes what's wrong with her shoes there's nothing wrong with her shoes per se they're nice enough
08:02Sunday best shoes got bit of a heel on them about two inches I reckon the thing is most people
08:10if
08:10they're gonna climb up on a chair to do some dusting and they're wearing heels they're gonna remove them
08:15beforehand to be more sure-footed safety first and all that and 85 years old I think mrs. Godwin
08:23here will be even more likely to do that than than anyone younger or more agile so what are you
08:29suggesting that she didn't climb up on the chair no she didn't and if she didn't climb up on the
08:37chair she
08:38didn't fall from the chair and if she didn't fall from the chair she didn't bang her head from falling
08:42and if she didn't bang her head from falling then what did actually happen here you think it's
08:47suspicious I think we've been sold a lie well that's not possible why no because the church was all locked
08:55out from the inside so nobody could get in or out show me so when we got here we went
09:04to the back
09:04entrance it's locked that won't go in the keys in on the other side so we came around to the
09:16front
09:16entrance to the same situation let me see there's a key in here too so I had to bust the
09:24door open
09:29see whose key is that mrs. Godwin's she usually locks the door and she's tidying up so nobody
09:34bothers her show me the back door
09:40is this also the victim's key no that's from the hook over there sir I don't know how it got
09:46in this
09:46door could someone have been hiding in here while you were in there no way as soon as I found
09:53her I
09:54saw my phone had no juice I came straight in here and called the ambulance I'm telling you both doors
09:59were locked on the inside if someone killed mrs. Godwin and staged a crime scene then how did they
10:07manage to get out no that just can't be there is no reason anybody would want to do that to
10:17Sylvie
10:18she's right it's crazy you think it is suspicious well can you tell us a little more about her did
10:24mrs.
10:24Godwin have any family was she married was but he passed away when was it now it was
10:292017 I officiated the funeral I mean you want to know about Sylvie's life it was this church this
10:37church was her family that's the truth she had been coming to St Vincent since before I was born
10:45she was christened here she got married here she and she never missed a single Sunday service in all
10:52of her life pasta I came straight over thank you for coming Hector I called Hector and told him the
11:02news he was very close to Sylvie she was his schoolteacher many years ago Hector mice
11:15so Mrs. Godwin was a teacher St Vincent primary school I took over from her as headmistress when she
11:22retired and you kept in touch with her always the things she did for me as a kid above and
11:30beyond you
11:35you know in what way she kept an eye on me because my parents didn't Sylvie and Walter her husband
11:44they
11:44never had kids themselves Hector met the world to her that's why this just can't be true that woman
11:51had nothing but good in her well if you think of anything you let us know yeah
12:14you can go and rest your feet now I'll clear all this up now to make your herbal tea after
12:20a day
12:20like today all I want is for you to pour me a run a large one all right Christmas from
12:27coming out early
12:28this year Seb your inspector is he usually right about this kind of thing 99.9% of the time
12:38so
12:40someone did murder Sylvie but who I don't know but couldn't have been anybody at the church right
12:48so maybe Sylvie had things going on in her life that we don't know about well mom I promise you
12:57whatever whatever it is we'll figure it out I know this hasn't played out how we expected but I had
13:09to do
13:10what I had to do no I'm not coming back yet not until I've got what I came for
13:32finish your breakfast
13:41you're welcome
13:54commissioner you made me jump good morning inspector good morning this arrived for me in the morning post
14:05it's from your victim
14:10mrs. godwin saw me on the local news covering the recent police initiative event she said she could tell
14:18I wanted to put things right and that's what she also needed to do right or wrong
14:25she didn't say what that was only that whatever it was was of a criminal nature and had something to
14:33do
14:33with St Vincent's church there is a dark secret that has been buried for too long and it's time the
14:40truth
14:40came out it was posted on Saturday morning and 24 hours later she was dead
14:54this gets more interesting by the minute how much was in mrs. boardroom's bank account two million four
15:00hundred and sixty three thousand dollars what you sure about that like seriously seriously
15:08well new primary school head teachers earn so much I requested statements that go further back
15:14all I have is the last five years and the money was already in the accounts the victim's husband
15:19Walter is it what did he do for living mr. Walter Godwin he was a caretaker at the same school
15:24that mrs.
15:25Godwin worked at I think that's where they first met so suddenly to be his money hmm do we know
15:30anything about her family yeah mrs. Godwin told me once appearance for farmers they definitely
15:35weren't rich so she didn't inherit it could the money have something to do with a crime she talks
15:40about in this letter the one connected to St Vincent's officer let's give your mom a call see
15:45if it sparks a memory or something yeah cool but all of this is a bit odd because it's nothing
15:51like
15:51mrs. Godwin I mean two million dollars that's crazy she wasn't that kind of person once we're done
15:58here we're gonna go and search mrs. Godwin's house also we've emailed everyone on the st.
16:03Vincent's weekly newsletter to see if any of the parishioners saw anything suspicious yesterday okay
16:08thank you sir that was the solicitor handling Sylvie Godwin's will it seems mrs. Godwin has left
16:17everything to Hector Moise oh so this guy's just become a millionaire it appears so sir what do we
16:28know about him he's a fisherman or was but he hasn't worked for the last 18 months or so due
16:33to an injury
16:34out at sea so if he's had no income for almost two years then then two million is gonna come
16:42in very
16:48happy I don't know either it's all a bit crazy right now mom I'll speak to you later I got
16:53to go
16:53I'll leave it to his inspector no worries commissioner sir I just got off the phone to my mother and
16:59she
16:59has no idea what Sylvie Godwin was talking about in that letter well if anything else comes to mind
17:04you let me know yeah all right where are you going to interview Hector Moyes he's a possible suspect now
17:12Hector a suspect he's a good guy he wouldn't kill anybody let alone Sylvie Godwin she was like a
17:18mother to him well these are the questions we have to ask it's what we do without fear or favor
17:24remember that used to be my boat there spent more time together me and are done anyone else and then
17:40some doctor you don't even know writes a certificate saying you can't do it no more
17:47well how are your finances now you're not working I'm struggling all right no one wants to employ a guy
17:54who only knows how to do one thing in his life yeah but that will change us now doesn't excuse
18:00me what
18:01mr. Moyes you inherit the bulk of Sylvie Godwin's estate and don't tell us you didn't know her
18:07solicitor told us mrs. Godwin informed you when she made the will a few years back yeah I knew but
18:13she
18:13got hardly nothing just our house which is a few tens of thousands you think I'd kill for that you're
18:18telling us she didn't let you know what was in her will no why it's more than just her house
18:262.4
18:27million dollars more I'm sorry what is this a joke funny how things turn out I didn't know she had
18:37that kind of money I swear to you she never mentioned a word to me about it look I get
18:43it
18:43I get how it looks to you I need money badly I'm desperate but I had no idea Sylvie was
18:50loaded like
18:50that so why would I kill her Sarge found some kind of time machine in mrs. Godwin's office oh it's
19:06a
19:06computer have you done those it no not yet okay you do that and I'll do this cool well it
19:19seems to be
19:19working so I know since your dad wasn't around yesterday if you don't mind me asking is he yeah
19:27he um he passed away I'm so sorry how old were you 11 so young must have been hard really
19:42hard you
19:43know yeah yeah my first lesson in pain but seeing my mother rise up every morning after that that showed
19:54me what true love looks like you know made us closer a team you can tell
20:10the bell shot dipty you know what a dipty is yeah it's um used to measure oil in the car
20:18you know
20:18you dip it in take it out I said dipty you're trying to say dipstick right dipty the painting or
20:25a carving on
20:26two panels usually hinge like a book oh you mean dipty yeah man we know about dipty can empty yeah
20:33well apparently this bell shot dipty is rare priceless kind of rare yeah why was Sylvie interested in this
20:46let's check her search history
20:53why watch her she searched the hell out of it this was three days ago friday the day before she
21:00posted
21:00that letter to the commissioner the bell shot dipty is a rare french panel painting from the middle ages
21:11each panel measures 50 by 30 centimeters rare so it's worth some coinage hmm it's worth major coinage
21:19if anybody could find it it went missing from france during the second world war and here it is it's
21:25believed the diptych was taken from a museum in paris by a young german soldier called joseph
21:30cross they reckon he brought that same painting over here to the caribbean when the vichy government
21:36sent a new governor to martini cross and a couple of other german soldiers accompanied him and what
21:43happened to it when he came here why jano but joseph cross he fled the region when the war finished
21:50and the painting never resurfaced and some historians believe that krause hid the belshare diptych on one
21:56of the smaller neighboring islands like saint marie right so our victim was looking into this belshare dipty
22:06and the next day sent a letter to the commissioner saying she wanted to put right a wrong that took
22:11place many years before at st vincent's church and 24 hours later sylvie was murdered in the church with
22:18both doors locked from the inside she also had over two million dollars in her bank account and we've
22:24no idea how she got that money but if she came into possession of this painting then maybe that could
22:30explain why she ended up so rich okay let's keep digging yeah and ds thomas get in touch with the
22:40commissioner because if there's any truth in it this could be a big deal
22:56everything all right
23:01it's just like first hector then mrs godwin it's all it's all a bit much right now
23:11sylvie was all about doing the right thing you should have said so no because it's like
23:17you said right without fear or favor so it's not right me defending her is it even if i know
23:23it's
23:23the truth that if this case is too close to home it's okay to take a step back no it's
23:30cool sarge
23:31it's cool i i really want to help get to the bottom of this facility yeah sure yeah good all
23:39right then i'll see you tomorrow morning yeah all right take care of yourself
23:48all right thanks for letting me know mrs martin you have yourself a good evening
23:54sir that was one of the parishioners from saint vincent's received the email we sent out asking if
24:01anyone saw anything suspicious yesterday says she saw a woman outside the church yesterday morning
24:07parked up in a hire car never seen her at saint vincent's before description it was a silver vehicle with
24:14logos for cariba car hire the woman looked in her 50s with shoulder length blonde hair not much
24:22of a tan apparently so with the higher car maybe not a local yeah it's me again so who is
24:29she i'm
24:30telling you the police haven't found it yet i watched two officers leaving her house both of
24:34them carrying evidence and they didn't have it with them so where's it got to i know a little of
24:41the
24:41history of the belshaw diptyque but how or why that connects to sylvie godwin i don't know but
24:51i shall ask a wrong evening all um sorry i'm late i had a prior arrangement with a bloke called
24:59barry who might i ask is barry it's funny you should ask that well barry is a retired expat who's
25:06returning to the uk to be with his grandchildren so he's selling off a bunch of stuff online
25:11so i got myself this beauty and what is that sir this is the answer to catherine's prayers not that
25:19she knows yet what is the answer to my prayer oh catherine well it's the one thing that's missing from
25:27your
25:36place oh it's a dartboard i can see that you see the thing is domino's is all well and good
25:43but for a boozer to be a proper boozer pardon but this is not a boozer a pub or a
25:50pub but whatever
25:51this establishment wants to call itself with this on your wall it can only enhance the communal vibe
25:57no we're not an english themed sports bar it's not going up yeah but catherine i said no just imagine
26:06mervyn my final word no no
26:21it seems you are now the proud owner of your very own dartboard
26:37i love it much to me right now in the moment you know i know it is my love i
26:41know
26:46whoa mom what's this oh what oh seb sweetheart this isn't um
26:54said you you you weren't supposed to good evening sebastian you all right me are you all right what's
27:01this huh what's going on because they look like what are you i i i i guess you could say
27:07we've
27:07we've been getting close the two of us right since when well um since i suppose since um
27:16um what would you say loretta how long's it been i suppose we could say um it's been a year
27:23a year
27:26a year ma and you never once thought to mention it to me oh hector i'm so sorry could you
27:31could you
27:32give us a moment please i need to be getting home anyway sir sorry you had to find out like
27:38this
27:39last year i should have we should have to
27:46sorry
27:58i wanted to tell you but i i was too scared of how i'd react no so then what
28:08see it is because of that no no really it's not that a whole year ma a whole year you've
28:16been
28:16lying to me you know in the last 24 hours it turns out not one person is who i thought
28:28they were
28:31but i never thought you would be one of them
28:37i need some air
28:55good morning inspector yes thomas inheritance oh well i mean okay that's interesting all right
29:05well thanks i wanted to know so when was one second sir
29:14good morning inspector sarge sarge what's going on sir well i went on our walk last night and i
29:21ended up here so i thought i'd come and start on the case can we oh yes sure sorry sorry
29:27yes sir
29:35so um i'm just on the phone with uh sylvia godwin's bank manager and interestingly the 2.4 million in
29:42her account she inherited it from her husband walter godwin uh the bank manager says she don't know where
29:47he got it from or how walter got so rich it was walter's money yeah and unfortunately the liar who
29:53was
29:53handling water's will it's no longer around so that's all i got why is there a post-it with
29:59post-mortem exclamation mark written on it oh uh the post-mortem just came in it's here somewhere
30:04got it under the takeaway i will clear that up for you soon as possible sarge sorry about that why
30:10is
30:10there a pack of toilet roll on my desk that's why i went for the walk in the first place
30:14my new host
30:15mate was that don't forget the toilet roll pm says the victim became unconscious and died of hypoxia
30:22and reckoned she was hit with something with a sharp edge rather than banging her head on the floor
30:28so we're right it was murder what are all these printouts on the floor sir oh that's from uh cariba
30:35car hire they sent the details of the woman who was seen outside st vincent church the morning of the
30:40murder selena bascombe 54 years old from the uk berkshire arrived here friday and is staying at
30:48the golden bay hotel yeah i think she's just a tourist there's nothing interesting about her yet
30:52well then you didn't look properly said because on her passport she uses her maiden name
31:02godwin as in sylvie and walter godwin how did i miss that we need to talk to her right away
31:08um so i'm fletcher yeah sorry about that hello hello
31:14hello
31:30seb this is cool you're trying to move the case on but your head is pinging around all over the
31:36place
31:36it's close to chaos in there i understand what it looks like sarge but i've been up all night
31:41doing a lot of work and i feel like i'm very close to you should go home okay have a
31:46shower get yourself
31:47straight but sarge i need to finish i know i know but you're not helping right now we can't work
31:53like
32:07this thanks for coming in miss bascom please take a seat walter godwin was my grandfather
32:13he was stationed on saint marie during the second world war
32:17when the war ended he wrote to my grandmother who was pregnant with my father at the time
32:25saying that he wasn't coming home that it was over between them and he knew she was pregnant yes
32:31except i don't think it was him who wrote that letter i think it was someone else
32:36um i found this on the saint vincent's church website it's the day that walter godwin got married
32:45to sylvie well that's sylvie but that's not walter godwin that that's not my grandfather see
32:53that's not the same man so you realized that someone might have stolen your grandfather's
33:07identity i know they did and you came here to saint marie to find out who this
33:12other walter godwin was that's why you're at the church sunday morning to speak with sylvie godwin
33:23mrs godwin
33:28so how did she react when you suggested that the man who she'd been married to for 60 odd years
33:33may not be who she thought he was she already knew
33:38she said that she'd only just found out herself that week how well her plumber had found a box
33:47hidden under the floorboards when he was fixing a pipe i'll find out which plumber sylvie said it
33:54had the true identity of her husband in it all his personal documents making clear what happened to
34:00my grandfather which was what she wouldn't tell me she said that she wasn't ready yet and that she
34:09wanted to do it in her own time and in her own way whatever that meant
34:17i think it meant she wanted to go to the police first about it which must have frustrated you coming
34:23all this way to be denied the truth it is my family you have no right to keep this to
34:27yourself
34:29sorry i can't help you
34:33and in that moment caught up in it all that's when you must have decided no no i wouldn't really
34:39i
34:40wouldn't i i just left i was angry but i didn't want to hurt her i just wanted to know
34:46what was in
34:46that box and now she's dead and i don't know where it is
35:00so if sylvie had this box she talked about where is it because it wasn't at the crime scene
35:07and it wasn't at her house and if someone did steal water godwin's identity who and what happened to the
35:14real water godwin i just got after phone with a plumber who was over at the victim's house last friday
35:19said sylvie looked haunted after she looked inside that box
35:27about an hour later she was getting inside a taxi saying she needed to go to saint vincent's primary school
35:36she went to see yasmin seeley
35:43okay i'm gonna lay it out miss seeley i believe it's you who has the missing box
35:47sylvie's we could get a search warrant or
36:08it's a german passport
36:11from the second world war looks like belong to joseph krauss
36:16it's believed the diptych was taken from a museum in paris by a young german soldier
36:21called joseph krauss the last visa stamp show he left martinique at the end of the war
36:26and came to saint marie
36:31saint marie times september 27th 1945. it's a report about an unnamed british soldier getting into a fight
36:41with a group of german naval officers and left for dead near saint vincent's church
36:47his body was never found i believe that soldier was walter godwin and i think joseph krauss came across
36:56his body
36:56joseph realized he could steal his identity if he could dispose of the body without it being found
37:04a map of the saint vincent churchyard
37:07that must be where the real walter godwin was buried
37:11he took walter's uniform and papers and buried him there in this grave so no one would ever find
37:18it from that moment on joseph krauss was walter godwin i guess he softened his accent as much as
37:25he could and by the time he and sylvie met about 15 years later and he seemed like the englishman
37:30she
37:31thought he was we need to get a forensic victim over from godaloo
37:39i'm assuming mr krauss went to all these lengths because of this
37:44the belshaw diptych i mean if the authorities worked out he stole it and came looking for him
37:50and with a new identity they wouldn't find him from what i know he lived a simple life working as
37:56a
37:56caretaker for this school and when he and sylvie met everyone always said they truly loved each other
38:05that was the day she retired handed the baton over to me
38:12why have you got this box miss silly
38:16sylvie brought it with her when she came here on friday i asked her if i could keep it so
38:20i could
38:20look into it some more that's all it's entirely innocent not if you didn't tell us about it it
38:26isn't actually that's suspicious why did you choose to keep it to yourself
38:35this school is everything to me
38:39and i can't risk his reputation being damaged
38:43it's struggling enough as it is financially
38:47all we have to keep going is donations people's goodwill and if it ever got out that we had a
38:52caretaker working here that wasn't who we thought he was was a a nazi soldier who covered up a murder
39:02so you killed miss godwin to stop all this no no no i'm very sorry i should have told you
39:08about it i know but
39:11i didn't kill her
39:20so if joseph kraus sold the belshia diptych and had all that money then why he never do nothing with
39:28it
39:28never spend it nothing perhaps he kept it just in case i mean if the truth ever caught up with
39:34him
39:35then he had the means to change his identity again afternoon sergeant thomas
39:44the trouble is we're still no closer to working out who murdered sylvie godwin
39:49and then managed to exit the building when both the front and back door were locked from the inside
39:54with keys inside the lock
39:59he's buried here my grandfather we believe so yes
40:23officer rose inspector hey um sorry i'll just uh take in a moment you know
40:34i'll give you some space no no no no you're all right i was just coming in to see if
40:38i could
40:39make any more sense of it all me too i guess
40:42and not much usually i find it levels me out i can feel peace here
40:57no sorry i haven't been much use in this investigation it's just been a lot for me you know
41:01i mean look we all have cases that um throw us off balance from time to time
41:06when i've had more than my fair share trust me right see when i'm thrown by a kiss my brain
41:13just
41:15starts jumping around like some
41:19itchy footed grasshopper you know well maybe that is your unique selling point so i'd say embrace it
41:32own it don't let it own you in fact you know what let's try it let's try it right now
41:39yeah
41:39oh we visualize it only this time you are taking the lead okay come on up you get that's it
41:51okay this is the crime scene the murder of sylvie godwin
41:56that door the front door is locked from the inside the keys in the door
42:05sylvie's body is here
42:09this big wooden cross is on top of her
42:15now come on just freestyle it yeah just say whatever your brain wants to say
42:21um i'm thinking about when i busted the door open
42:25i hurt mom you know uh when i got home it was all bruised up so
42:29i drank some rum to numb the pain
42:34what that also means it was definitely locked
42:41okay okay what else well then if you were the killer you'll probably prefer to leave the scene
42:49at the back yeah yeah keep going keep going so that way you're less likely to be seen by others
42:53so um
42:54maybe we're in the wrong room the back room come on
43:08so what's she saying to you this room what was it telling you
43:17what collection box it's just usually it sits right there under the shelf now it looks like
43:25it's been pulled out a little bit
43:32it's a kind in it and that's odd because because miss godwin empties the collection box every sunday
43:40after the service today's collection passed down and she gives the money to my mom
43:50so this must have been put in there after she was murdered which means well then the killer must have
43:56put it there
43:58that won't go in the key's in on the other side
44:07p.m says the victim became unconscious and reckoned she was hit by something with a sharp edge
44:13diptych a painting or a carving on two panels usually hinge like a book
44:18local art historians generally believe it was brought to saint marie
44:30bingo
44:32have you solved the case it was actually officer rose and his itchy footy grass upper brain that solved it
44:39i did that coin explains everything okay let's move people there's still some things we need to do
44:46like get hold of a search warrant and we need the luminol oh and we need a tape measure why
44:52do we need
44:53a tape measure to measure something
45:03way back in 1945 a young british soldier by the name of walter godwin was killed here on saint marie
45:11his identity was stolen and his body was hidden in someone else's grave
45:16now finally thanks to sylvie godwin and the discovery of this box
45:23that young man can get the proper burial he deserves thank you
45:29which brings us to the crime
45:31in the present sylvie godwin's murder at st vincent's church on sunday and although it occurred many years after walter
45:38godwin's murder
45:39this little wooden box in its contents helped solve this murder as well
45:45we know from the post-mortem that sylvie was hit with a sharp object
45:49this spray luminal detects traces of blood
45:53and this proves that there was blood on the box recently as you can see here
46:02now we have another time to carry out the relevant tests but when our lab compares this blood
46:07with sylvie's i'm confident they'll match and as this box has only been in one person's possession since
46:14the murder it has led me to believe that sylvie godwin's killer was yasmin seeley
46:24what have you done that's not true someone else must have taken it on them
46:33don't worry miss seeley we'll be coming to this in a minute
46:38throughout this case we've worked on the assumption that sylvie godwin's husband real
46:44name joseph krauss had sold the painting he had stolen which explains why he had so much money in
46:51his bank account well it's half the truth because the unique defining thing about a diptych is that
46:58there are two halves to it diptych a painting or a carving on two panels usually hinge like a book
47:05and we now know that joseph krauss sold only one half of the belshaw diptych
47:12and he kept the other half
47:21goodness me
47:24now we'll never fully know why joseph separated the two panels my sense is that he was someone
47:30who liked to hedge his bets be prepared for all eventualities i think that's partly why he never
47:37spent any of the money plus having to explain to his wife-to-be how he came into such major
47:43coinage
47:44would mean admitting to the theft of this famous piece of art and also being an imposter so joseph
47:51held on to the money and the picture so where has it been the last 80 odd years or so
47:59hanging
48:00on the wall of the headmistress's office at the saint vincent's primary school which is now
48:06your office miss seeley
48:13joseph cross must have put it there during his years as caretaker
48:17and no one ever thought anything of it this faded religious icon hanging on the wall of a church
48:24school surrounded by other religious images earlier today miss seeley when we talked in your office
48:32that was the day she retired i saw that frame photo on the wall of sylvie and walter
48:37and i happened to notice the outline of a larger rectangle around that frame where the paint hadn't
48:44faded clearly another picture had previously hung there for some time i didn't think much of it at
48:50first but i had it measured and guess what it was 50 centimeters by 30 centimeters the exact same
49:00dimensions as one half of the bell shore dipped each panel measures 50 by 30 centimeters that's why
49:08mrs godwin came to see you when she found the box and realized what was hanging on her old office
49:14wall
49:16we can't keep it i gotta let the police know but you didn't agree did you you told us your
49:25school
49:25was struggling for money but we had a bit of a dig and it's it's worse than that you've not
49:32drawn a
49:33salary in the last six months to keep it going you said yourself the place meant so much to you
49:40and so
49:40the prospect of getting millions of dollars just landing in your lap well you just weren't willing to
49:48give that up and so after driving home to pick up food for lorette's lunch gathering you returned to
49:56the church to plead with sylvie one more time please don't do it that money it could help the school
50:04so
50:05much could help me sylvie wasn't for turning was she i'm desperate as officer rose said she always tried
50:12to do good in life and she wasn't about to stop now sorry so in that moment desire for the
50:19money got
50:20the better of you and you decided you were going to stop her i assume sylvie had that box with
50:25her in
50:25the church that day and this box was your weapon of choice and once she used it to kill her
50:34you made
50:35it look like there's been some tragic accident
50:45how could you
50:49now knowing that the front door of the church had already been locked by mrs godwin you made your
50:55escape via the rear using the church's spare back door key that you took from the back room
51:01to lock the door from the outside and placing this little coin in the lock
51:15it's locked so that when you returned with officer rose and lorette that won't go in and with a little
51:21play acting it would seem like the door was locked from the inside the keys in on the other side
51:28then
51:28when officer rose and his mom headed round to the front you lingered briefly and proceeded to open
51:34the door with the church's spare key pushing this coin out in the process and then inserting that key
51:42inside
51:45all you had to do was find a moment to actually lock it okay thank you
51:51i'm going to turn this way
51:54seeing the coin on the floor you picked it up
51:59and without your bag or purse you disposed of it in the collection box
52:09and then actually locked the back door with the key
52:15it was very clever of you making it look like sylvie was
52:20on her own in the church when she had that fatal fall one might say devilishly so
52:27but you see sylvie was so determined that the truth would come out that even after her death
52:32her desire to put right a decades old wrong finally won out this arrive for me in the morning post
52:45officer rose i think this arrest has your name on it
52:54get up
52:57he has my ceiling i'm arresting you for the murder of sylvie government you don't need to stay in the
53:03the
53:12Excuse me, Sarge. I'll do a second.
53:19Mum.
53:28You all right?
53:30I can't believe what that woman's dog...
53:34Poor Sylvie.
53:37And just for money?
53:40I'm sorry for getting it wrong, no?
53:43You haven't seen me at my best on this case.
53:46That's not what your inspector told me.
53:49He said it was because of you that it all got solved.
53:54Which is even more impressive considering you had other things to deal with.
53:58Like your mother keeping secrets.
54:02And honestly, Mum, I think it's helping.
54:04You moving on.
54:06I don't think you should be getting old and lonely and just focusing on me and the church, you know?
54:12You deserve happiness too.
54:18You all right?
54:20Yes, I.
54:23So, you like him?
54:28Then I'm pleased for you.
54:31But you do know that all that money he inherited from the stolen painting, you won't be getting none of
54:36that, you know?
54:37I'm not asking for his money.
54:39Well, seriously though, I mean, he seems like a good guy.
54:44With him shiny head.
54:49See you Sunday.
54:51You won't be late this time.
54:54Try me best.
54:58Love you.
54:59Love you too.
55:12All right, that's the hockey.
55:15This is where you throw from.
55:17You get three throws each, and then it's the next player's turn.
55:20All right, let's get it started.
55:24Game on.
55:25Round one.
55:30Shut you.
55:31I thought you were supposed to hit the board, Inspector.
55:34Yeah, yeah, I think there's something off with the flyer.
55:36It's all right, not to worry.
55:37We got this, sir.
55:43Sir, you are really bad at this.
55:46No, it's not me.
55:46Honestly, it's the dance.
55:48You know, you're giving up some real bad loser vibes right now.
55:51Maybe you should let the commissioner take the last throw.
55:53It's not his turn yet.
55:55With respect.
55:56Now, if you just stop talking, then I can throw properly, all right?
56:07There you go.
56:09So...
56:11So...
56:13That's two points, is it?
56:21Just two points for our team?
56:24Wow.
56:25I'm just a bit rusty, that's all.
56:27You want to join our team, Commissioner?
56:29I mean, I don't think any of us are going to be as bad as that.
56:45Well, come on then, Officer Rose, you reckon you can do better?
56:48Show us what you've got.
56:48Jump for joy, clap your hands, shout for joy, shake your hands...
57:00Ladies and gentlemen of the Tempest Company, this is your 15-minute call.
57:03This was their final performance.
57:05It suddenly collapsed halfway through the second act.
57:07The poison was in the bottle that our victim and the other two actors drank from on stage.
57:11But only Michael Farrah dies.
57:13Would you like to go for a drink with me?
57:14That's inappropriate, Mr. Gorman.
57:16A complaint has been me accusing you of unprofessional conduct.
57:20Still haven't heard from your brother?
57:22I think he's actually ignoring my calls.
57:24Then maybe you should go visit him in Antigua.
57:27Somebody's given the inspector some hair.
57:54The Enішek of the Tempest Company.
57:55Bye.
57:55Bye.
57:57Bye.
57:57Bye.
57:58Bye.
