Europe’s drone sector rules lag behind technology

Europe needs to invest in companies that develop technologies to strengthen drone and anti-drone security: "The technology is there. The challenge is European regulations and the implementation of those regulations," says Kasper Aagaard, development director at Erhvervshus Fyn.

00:01Ukraine is the number one leader in drone applications in the world, and we are trying to give some of
00:09their companies the best opportunities to grow by offering, for instance, test areas here in Denmark.
00:19The security need of Europe right now is to be able to protect itself because we're in a full-scale
00:25hybrid war. And because of that, we are investing money into companies that are developing security technologies, for instance, drones
00:34and also anti-drone systems.
00:36What we see right now is that the drone industry demands a lot of investment to take the next steps.
00:43The good thing is that based on the money we got from the European Union, with other investments from other
00:49funds, there's more than 90 million euro invested since 2021.
00:53It's a lot of money, but we have to remember that the United States are investing 20 times as much
00:58money in new companies and China 40 times as much. So it is a great success story.
01:07The technology is there. The challenge is the European regulation and the implementation of that regulation in Danish connection that
01:14has to mature in order to be able to capitalize on that potential fully.
