Drones are changing modern warfare — but how are they stopped?

Anti-drone defence systems use a powerful three-stage process: detection, threat assessment, and neutralisation. From advanced radar systems to AI-powered analysis, these technologies can identify, track, and eliminate aerial threats within seconds.

In this video, we break down how anti-drone systems work — from detecting drones using sensors like radar, thermal imaging, and radio-frequency tracking, to identifying threats using artificial intelligence, and finally neutralising them through jamming, GPS disruption, or even direct destruction.

From military battlefields to airport security, anti-drone technology is becoming essential in protecting airspace from emerging threats.

00:06An anti-drone defense is carried out in three stages. The first stage is the detection of
00:12drones using a suite of sensors, low-altitude specialized radars, radio frequency systems,
00:19thermal cameras and acoustic sensors. The second stage determines whether the drone poses a threat
00:26by using artificial intelligence to cross-reference radar, optical and electromagnetic signals to
00:33identify what type of drone it is. In the third stage if a danger is confirmed then various methods
00:40can be used to neutralize the drone including scrambling the link with its operator, disrupting
00:47its GPS system, taking control of the drone remotely to make it land further away or destroying it
00:53directly with another kamikaze drone by capturing it with a net or forcing it to crash to the
00:59ground with lasers or anti-drone guns.
