There are plenty of ways to stay fit and keep moving as you get older, but dance isn’t always at the top of the list. A Townsville program has been giving people in their golden years a chance to celebrate the joy of being alive through movement and connections with one another.

00:07Still Dancing is a class that runs here once a week and has been running for more than
00:1110 years. The main demographic is generally women over 55.
00:16It's embodiment and connection. Push your weight into your heel. There's a lot of freedom
00:23in the class. I've been coming to the class I think for about 4 years. To be honest I didn't
00:31really enjoy it. I found it, you know, what am I doing here kind of thing. I couldn't
00:37now be without it, you know. I just, it's just that thing of being able to move in the
00:41way you like. It's a sense of joy. I did learn ballet when I was younger but that's much
00:51more restricted. Here you can just follow your body. It just makes you feel so good.
00:56There's a lot of pressure on people in their later years to exercise to remain healthy and
01:03biomechanically stable but a lot of that exercise can be very linear and regimented and not very
01:10inspiring. There's so much depth of relationship here in the room every week. It's a great gift
01:16we have given here. This experience of connection and being together and really community in
01:21a sense. Everyone can dance and generally everyone will enjoy dance. Life's too short. If you don't
01:29leave it, you lose it.
