00:10Hey what's up? It's Paul from Guitar World and today we're going to be looking at a spectacular
00:14guitar that I just received. It is the Sir Oso Short Scale. Let's check it out.
00:33As you can see for Sir, this guitar kind of is an amalgamation of two guitars more or less.
00:41What started out was probably a short scale T-style for Sir and then it eventually became
00:49a little bit of something completely unique and original. It has of course that sort of T-style
00:54roots but it also has a bit of the now discontinued aura from Sir. So it's a little bit of
01:01that
01:02vintage vibe and charm from that particular guitar. So it's a little bit of both. It's
01:08quite amazing all together. When I heard that they were going to be sending me the Oso, which
01:13was an original design from them, I kind of looked at it and I said, okay, this is not
01:18the kind of guitar I would gravitate to. Usually like a quilted maple top or a curly maple top
01:23in this case just doesn't really grab me. And of course this hybrid T-style meets an LP.
01:30It's not something I would go for. But once I got this, I pulled it out of the box and
01:36I
01:36started playing it and it just ruined me. It's that good of a guitar. Obviously for Sir, all
01:43the professional players, some of my favorites, they all go to Sir for their guitars like Andy
01:47Wood. Mateus Asado also I think is using this particular guitar as well. And there's a great
01:54reason. Everything from Sir is just professional grade, top notch. It doesn't get better from
02:00their amplifiers to their pedals and especially their guitars. When you're buying a Sir product
02:06and especially guitar, you are getting exactly what the pros are using. And this is no exception.
02:12So for me to say that this guitar really, really speaks to me and has ruined me because it's
02:17made me rethink everything about my own guitars because it's that good. So I'm ready to rock
02:23this.
02:24Let's do this.
02:25Let's do this.
02:54I've actually fell in love with this curly maple top.
02:57It kind of looks really cool now to me.
03:00And then of course the ergonomics of this particular instrument is just incredible.
03:05It actually makes you play better.
03:32This Oso guitar is a short scale guitar.
03:36So this one comes clocking in as a 24.625.
03:41Now normally the two popular scales of guitars are usually the Fender scale which is 25.5,
03:47and of course the Gibson scale which is 24.75.
03:50So this clocks in just a little bit under the Gibson scale at 24.65.
03:57But what you get from that is you get like a better fret reach.
04:00Everything about it you feel more connected to the guitar.
04:03This guitar just rings out.
04:06It's just acoustically.
04:07You can listen to this just from my mic here.
04:12How precise.
04:14And not to mention this came out of the box just fully tuned exactly like this.
04:19So you can just hear this is crafted to near perfection.
04:44This particular Oso there's I believe four different models of Oso in the line.
04:50This one happens to be I think the top of the line.
04:53It has a mahogany body and this is of course that curly maple top.
04:57They've kept the curly maple as the binding on this particular guitar as well.
05:02This one comes with an Indian rosewood fingerboard and of course this one is different from the
05:09others because it has a mahogany neck.
05:11With the satin finish that's perfect.
05:14It's just not gummy or tacky or sticky.
05:17It's wonderfully applied.
05:19The frets on this are heavy nickel with blind fret slots.
05:24Which means there are no sharp edges on this particular guitar.
05:27So you are literally gliding across the fretboard the Indian rosewood fingerboard here.
05:34Oso truss rod plate.
05:36Tusk nut.
05:36The other thing is this comes with Sir locking tuners.
05:41And this particular neck profile is what Sir calls an even C slim.
05:48The other one is a historic slim but this is an even C and it's a little shallower.
05:53But this particular profile is one of my favorite profiles I've come across in a long time.
05:59Just really easy to play.
06:15John Sir wanted to do a 3x3 headstock design.
06:20So there's a slight break angle here which I think really contributes to why this guitar stays in tune so
06:27well.
06:27I mean obviously the locking tuners have something to do with a little bit of that play.
06:32But honestly that slight headstock angle really really contributes to keeping this guitar in tune.
06:38I know that from just some other guitars that I have that have that slight headstock angle.
06:42And of course having the 3x3 really adds to the overall charm of this Oso short scale guitar.
06:48Comes with Sir humbuckers, SSV in the neck and you can see it's mounted direct to the body and then
06:57the SSH in the bridge.
06:59Standard volume, tone, 5 way selector switch and I'll let you hear that.
07:05The sound, the in-between sounds are incredible like it's just not like a typical guitar.
07:10You really hear the difference between full on humbucking sounds and then those split coil sounds which sound incredible almost
07:17like having a Strat so you have it all in this guitar.
07:20Two post tremolo and of course with a steel block and it's chromed out it just stays in tune so
07:27what can I say everything about this guitar is dialed in.
07:42I'm going to let you hear it because that's really the big selling point of this guitar because it's just
07:47phenomenal.
07:48Right now I'm in the bridge humbucker and as I mentioned before all the different positions off the 5-8
07:54selector you really really hear what a tonal difference.
07:58It really just captures, you want that split coil, single coil spank, you got it in 2 and 4 and
08:05then you want that nice, just that hot humbucker at the bridge that just accentuates every note, it's here and
08:11then that really juicy sounding neck humbucker, it's got it in its face, take a listen, here we go.
08:18This is the bridge.
08:29So a little beef but now watch when I go to the 4 position here.
08:43Then the mid.
08:48Just a nice even dual humbucker sound, great.
08:55Then the 2 position here or the 4 position.
09:07And then the full neck.
09:20Really nice and then when I add a little bit of compression and a little drive, it really starts to
09:24come alive.
09:25Back to the bridge.
09:26They have gone three, three.ное
09:41and a little bit of compression and it's too much. They
09:47forget! It just
09:47won't be the one you're done. They don't
09:48work much for you, here we go. A little bit
09:48of Shirley. They're married
09:48tooret quantify the experience that's trochę comfortable. In this place.
09:49They actually need an
09:49extremely handsome earpiece. That joined a grandchildEh.
09:50Don't forget it. At this
09:53time. See that!
10:41So there you have it, the Sur Oso short scale, which in my opinion, I believe to be one
10:48of the finest guitars I've ever had in my hands, and I think one of the finest guitars
10:53that Sur is offering at the moment, do yourself a favor and go check out this guitar.
10:59This is perfection in a six-string.
11:02This would be the one guitar that I could just play for the rest of my life.
11:06It's that good.
11:07Definitely check it out.
