00:03we've picked up the rogue boys intruding to the max oh my gosh they are making a racket
00:14we're right in the center of the quiddum pride territory and that i can't exaggerate that enough
00:21four intruding male lions the rogue boys are advancing towards the quiddum pride
00:30this is the greatest threat so far these boys could very easily kill all the cubs
00:42the okovango delta in botswana we are in a pristine environment right now one of africa's last
00:50wildernesses the magnitude of life here is unparalleled and it's a haven for africa's big cats
01:00lion cheetah and leopard big cat country armed with the latest filming technology
01:11the big cats 24 17 is following individual big cats for six months this is a unique opportunity
01:20to follow these cats around the clock through the day
01:24i used to think i'd have a fair fight with a lion not so sure now and the night we've
01:32got the most
01:33sophisticated thermal imaging technologies capturing their behavior 24 hours a day i have never seen
01:42anything like this
01:56go down go down for great yeah go ahead the intruder males are roaring and causing so much raucous and
02:05just
02:05full on drama the rogue boys are asserting their presence in the quiddum pride territory okay we're
02:13just gonna look for the cubs gordon is searching for the pride's most vulnerable members
02:20it's young cubs we've got some lines up ahead
02:26the rogue boys the rogue boys roars travel five miles when they hear these rogue males and intruder
02:33males calling there's concern there's this threat and there's danger the females with cubs they are
02:39moving out of the core part of the territory this is the furthest south that i've seen them
02:48it's unusual at this time of day for any lions to be wandering around separating from the rest of the
02:59pride
03:00and keeping so many cubs on the move is dangerous
03:06and stopped but these mums with young cubs have no choice
03:13a good position they're up on this termite mound here probably you can see about two kilometers in
03:19that direction one in that direction another kilometer in that direction so anything that
03:25is coming through this area what they're gonna see
03:30you're just doing a little count
03:34we've got nine nine cubs
03:41i first saw these cubs when they were a week to 10 days old they were tiny little bundles of
03:49a guinea
03:51pig size maybe very fluffy the eyes hadn't even opened and now they've got a lot more life about them
04:04these eight month old cubs belong to just three kudum pride mothers
04:12naledi sebi and mato
04:17they're all hanging out together because they've all got cubs of the same ages
04:22my respect goes to these females because they're doing all the hard work
04:27keeping these cubs alive while big toe and madumo the heads of the kudum pride they're the dominant males
04:37they're nowhere to be seen
04:40it's been a week since i've seen madumo and for big toe that's three weeks since anyone has seen them
04:50so when it comes to invading males like the rogue boys the burden of protecting the cubs
04:57just lands on the shoulders of the females
05:02right they're on the move
05:06the best thing we can do is just stick with them
05:12water levels are now at their lowest in this 150 square miles of the okovango delta
05:23the annual flood will soon arrive
05:27making it harder for mato naledi sebi and their cubs to move freely
05:36every single one of them walking in the same direction they must put distance between themselves
05:44and the rogue boys who are just three miles to their north while they still can
05:52greg greg for gordon go ahead all those cubs are still alive and well that is amazing
06:00we're gonna stick with the rogue boys
06:10sets is joining greg to keep track of the rogue boys
06:15oh my goodness they're on a buffalo kill
06:18three sub-adults and the big male is right here in front of me
06:24oh my gosh really interesting update they've killed the buffalo in the center of the kutum lion territory
06:37it means they are willing to challenge bigton mudumo our dominant males
06:43they really shouldn't be this brazen to have the nerve to make a large kill
06:50they really seem to be making themselves at home
06:55the rogue boys are staking a claim to kudum pride territory
07:00and everything in it
07:06dude what is going on i have no idea this is truly insane
07:10they're not even trying to hide no they're not
07:12they're all made a kill to prove a point yeah they're a very interesting coalition of one
07:20huge male with three sub-adults
07:25adult male lions form coalitions lifetime partnerships for protection and strength
07:35typically you don't find coalitions like this
07:39with vastly different age in the same coalition i wonder if it's a father and sons potentially
07:47they've got a huge coalition leader he's in his prime
07:53we decided to call him demo demo just means a giant
07:58he is probably the biggest male lion i've ever seen
08:04looks scary as
08:09this coalition looks like it's been fighting quite a lot
08:14can take example of this youngster here he has a lot of battle scars on his face
08:21with no pride of their own the rogue boys are looking for one to take over
08:28these rogue boys they're going to want to mate with the females
08:32and that'll mean killing cubs they want those mothers to come back into easter so that they can
08:38have their own cubs
08:42and no one is defending this territory it's crazy hey it's going to be really hard to to fight off
08:49these rogue boys
09:01just
09:08leopard specialists brad and tristan have found new mum ladiva
09:28that's just too cute the deba has two cubs three and a half months old
09:37really quite sweet
09:40they've got this whole nursery area that the mother's put them into
09:44and she'll walk in and call and then they'll reveal themselves to her
09:51ladiva's cubs are too young to go with her when she hunts
09:55so the nursery keeps them hidden
09:59it's a perfect nursery here it's thick thick sage you know it's a lot of places these cubs can learn
10:07play and run around there's nowhere really better suited to a leopard raising their cubs than
10:16an area quite like this
10:23i love that interaction between a mom and a cub
10:28something so gentle and beautiful about it
10:34the deba is suckling this one cub it's a pretty little thing
10:40it's a busy time for a mom two cubs that are highly mobile and needing to be fed
10:46she'll have a good session of feeding and then she'll do her long hunting forays
10:55ladiba must hunt every two to three days traveling miles from the nursery
11:03she can't be there all the time
11:05other cubs have very high mortality rates they don't have somebody else to look after them
11:14this is one of the most vulnerable times in a leopard cub's life
11:27sun's just stepping behind the tree line and her diva is now on the move
11:37she's heading off on another hunter
11:43as brad follows ladiba away from the nursery
11:48she hides in some bushes there's a male sitting here on the road
11:57she's a big boy okay copy that yeah that's not great news
12:05he's picking up herself and he's definitely interested
12:14male leopards are notorious for killing cubs
12:20we were just so happy with her having cubs in this area because there's very little male traffic
12:28through here and just when you say that her big male rocks up
13:00you can see the way his tail is twitching
13:05He's definitely on her scent.
13:07I just hope that she doesn't lead him back
13:08to where she's keeping those cubs.
13:20He's letting the deer bun know that he's here.
13:29I'm gonna sleep easy tonight.
13:44The lion mums are still moving their young cubs south.
13:50To their north, the intruding rogue boys
13:53have left their buffalo carcass unguarded.
14:04Oh, this is ballsy.
14:08Some other members of the Kudum Pride have found it.
14:13These two boys are enjoying a free meal.
14:17It's the Pride's two sub-adult males.
14:22This is really bold of him.
14:26The rogue boys, they are heading to have a drink
14:29at a nearby waterhole, not far from here,
14:32about 500 meters.
14:36He's quite nervous looking around
14:38because he knows when those males come back
14:41it is not going to be pretty.
14:46These two youngsters might look almost fully grown.
14:51That's some grunting.
14:59That's Demo.
15:00But the rogue boy's leader, Demo,
15:03is almost twice their weight.
15:08The big boy, he is about 50 meters behind me.
15:13He's advancing.
15:15He's advancing.
15:25You can see how massive he is.
15:27He is showing signs of aggression.
15:30His body posture.
15:36Oh, he's chasing.
15:37He's chasing.
15:40Oh, the lions have run off.
15:43They ran like hell out of there.
15:45Hopefully, they're safe.
15:58Demo is victorious.
16:01He is going to feel a sense of pride and accomplishments.
16:06Two sub-adults are no match for Demo.
16:11The absence of Big Toe and Madumo
16:15is leaving the pride defenceless.
16:22It just shows how bored he is.
16:26It's a clear challenge.
16:35Demo and the rogue boys
16:36are now taking more ground,
16:39moving south
16:41towards the mums and young cubs.
16:46Just begs the question
16:48where are they to and Madumo
16:50when all of this is happening?
17:12Cheetah team, cheetah team.
17:14Got Bobby and the cubs.
17:17X of you, I will be there ASAP.
17:29Raya and Anna are with cheetah mum, Bobby.
17:35And her five-month-old cubs.
17:40It's pretty cool to watch these guys.
17:42I mean, when we're following them every single day,
17:44you literally see their development.
17:46It's like having your own baby.
17:48Going from crawling to walking.
17:50It's a feel of accomplishment
17:51watching your little children grow up.
17:55Now Raya and Anna know the cubs.
17:57They've named them
18:00Kia and Bo.
18:05Only a few weeks ago,
18:07they were reliant on their mum's milk.
18:10But now,
18:11they are full-blown carnivores.
18:19Cubs are looking pretty hungry.
18:21Their bellies are concave.
18:24Kia and Bo must now eat
18:26at least half a kilo of meat a day.
18:33Cubs are really far in the distance.
18:38This could be a moment
18:39for Bobby to get a successful hunt in
18:41without her cubs distracting her.
19:08She went.
19:09She went.
19:10She went.
19:10She went for them.
19:10They should be coming out to your side.
19:15Where is she?
19:15I don't know.
19:30She's done it.
19:32Well done, Bobby.
19:34What an absolute genius.
19:38Guys, she's got one.
19:39She's got one.
19:42My hands are shaking.
19:44Everything is shaking.
19:46But it was incredible.
19:48And, you know,
19:51she's done that for her cubs.
19:53And I can see them coming in.
19:59This is going to be
20:00an absolute feast for these two.
20:05What Kia and Bo need
20:07is for mummy to open up this carcass
20:08so they can have a meal.
20:11The cubs' teeth won't be sharp enough
20:14to tear through skin
20:15for another two months.
20:19Bobbie needs to
20:20catch her breath a little bit.
20:22But cheetahs need to cool down
20:24before they can eat.
20:29Cheetah's main tactic
20:30for hunting
20:30is a full-on sprint.
20:34Sometimes being able
20:35to go up over 100 kilometers
20:36per hour.
20:38Very hard for cheetahs.
20:39They are not really able
20:40to sweat properly.
20:41You can see her right now.
20:42She's having a
20:44very heavy pant.
20:48That's just to help
20:49with cooling.
20:53This is a really dangerous
20:55time for a cheetah
20:56because there was quite a lot
20:58of commotion
20:59when that all went down.
21:00A lot of alarm calls.
21:02What Bobbie really doesn't want now
21:04is the vultures coming in
21:06in huge numbers.
21:08They are like a beacon
21:09in the sky
21:10to other predators.
21:11It's like dropping a pin.
21:14Here's your food packets
21:15just below.
21:20Cheetahs lose
21:21one in ten
21:22of their meals
21:23to other predators.
21:25Pretty much
21:26every single predator
21:27can chase
21:28our lovely cheetahs
21:29off this kill.
21:32Sadly for them
21:33amongst all our big cats
21:34they are
21:35the underdogs.
21:37Being such a small cat
21:38like a cheetah
21:39you really are
21:39down the pecking order.
21:43The challenge
21:44for Bobbie now
21:45is keeping hold
21:47of their meal.
21:49Best case scenario
21:51really
21:51is that
21:52Bobbie
21:53and
21:54Kia
21:55and Bo
21:55get through
21:56this kill
21:57as fast as possible.
22:08You girls
22:09we have run
22:10into the mums
22:12and cubs.
22:13Greg has found
22:15the pride's mums
22:16and young cubs.
22:18It's Naledi,
22:20Sebe and Mato
22:21with their
22:22crew of cubs.
22:23At the southern limit
22:25of Kudum Pride
22:26territory.
22:29The lionesses
22:30are all
22:31very much
22:31on edge
22:32about male lions
22:33and there's just
22:34anxiety
22:35and stress
22:36and built up
22:37tension.
22:44Hold on
22:45I think
22:46we have
22:46another lion
22:47there.
22:51Oh, it's
22:53big male.
22:56Who is this?
22:59Here comes Mato.
23:04Mato is approaching
23:05as if this could be
23:06one of the intruders.
23:13whoa, she is upset.
23:32They don't seem to recognise each other very well.
23:35Maybe because he has been MIA for a while.
23:46I'm so pleased to see Madumo back, looking strong and healthy
23:51at a time when we've had so much upheaval from the Rogue Boys.
23:59Mato looked so angry, she was ready for battle.
24:05She was just assuming that every male that approaches her is about to go after her cubs.
24:10That was amazing just aggression from her. Even Madumo has to approach with caution.
24:19Now that the mums, including Mato, have calmed down, everyone's approaching Madumo.
24:30Oh, it's a snuggle with Dad. The cubs are so excited. That's so sweet.
24:43Madumo is back in town. Wow, Madumo, my boy.
24:49Okay, see you as soon as I can.
24:59Where have you been?
25:01The last time I saw him, he was severely skinny. Look at him. He's put on a lot more weight.
25:12One question I always have whenever I see Madumo on his own is, here's where this Big Toh.
25:19Lately, Madumo has been seen with the Pride from time to time. But his coalition partner Big Toh has now
25:28been missing for almost a month.
25:32Since we've been following the Pride, I've never had it that the big boys have been separated for so long.
25:39They were practically inseparable last year. They ate together, they walked together, they patrolled together. They were joined at the
25:50head.
25:51The power that Madumo has is the power that comes from being in this partnership.
26:01Alone, Madumo is no match for the four advancing road boys.
26:09No matter how determined and how strong and how big he is, he's not going to win against multiple lines.
26:15So, until we find Big Toh, it's still a very precarious moment for the Pride.
26:32All right, Brad, Brad, for Tristan.
26:35Hey, Tristan.
26:37Ladiba's cubs disappeared.
26:40Tristan and Brad are checking in on Ladiba.
26:45What I hope is it's not the male she bumped into.
26:49After finding a male leopard close to her nursery.
26:54Ladiba's back in the nursery area. One cubs showed up.
26:59Looks like mum might be trying to pick up the second one now.
27:03And she seems to be getting a little bit concerned.
27:20She's calling, searching, broadcasting her presence.
27:34The male cub is missing.
27:44I've never seen this amount of vocalisation coming from a single leopard in such a short space of time.
28:01She's just desperate for a response.
28:04And she's just not getting it.
28:12She's soaring.
28:21This call, known as sawing, is unique to each individual leopard and can travel nearly two miles.
28:32The fact that she's trying this hard really starts to scare me, to be honest.
28:39It's not a good sign.
28:44The longer it's missing, the lower its chances drop.
28:53Less than 50% actually survive.
28:56Because they do get left alone. They do have to fend for themselves.
29:03Now she's high up. She's increasing her throw of her core.
29:08She's throwing caution to the wind now.
29:11She may draw other predators.
29:14I think what we're seeing is a very desperate mother.
29:29It's looking more and more likely that we've lost a cub already.
29:56Life for all the big cats of the Oko Vango Delta is about to change.
30:04Actually, by the flood.
30:07The annual flood has arrived.
30:11We're expecting it to be here within the next week.
30:14But it sits here now. This is now.
30:19Oh yeah, look at that.
30:27This is beautiful.
30:31This is the first time seeing the flood come in, in real time.
30:39This is exciting. I'm so excited.
30:49Go ahead and go ahead and go ahead and do you copy?
30:51Yeah, go set.
30:53And go ahead and have something amazing to show you.
31:07The waters of the Oko Vango have come a long way, close to 600 kilometres from the highlands of Angola
31:19through three countries.
31:21Finally ending up in Botswana.
31:24It goes from a dry flood plain to a flowing river within a matter of hours.
31:32To create a spectacle that's beyond words.
31:40Whoa, whoa, whoa.
31:46I don't need to ask what you've got to show me.
31:48Oh yeah, you can see it already.
31:51The speed.
31:52I was here yesterday, it was just bone dry.
31:54Yeah, it was completely dry.
31:56Yeah, it's really going to affect the lions.
31:59It really is.
32:01The territory is going to shrink.
32:02These waters, they are dangerous for them.
32:05Yeah.
32:07For the mums and smaller cubs, they'll be restricted.
32:11They can't really move around.
32:12It's three years they used to before the flood has arrived.
32:16There's less dry ground.
32:18Yeah.
32:23The rising flood waters mean the mums and cubs are running out of safe space.
32:31And the rope boys are now just a mile away.
32:36I don't know if anyone else heard that, but I heard some roaring.
32:40It's demon.
32:41This is a sign that these boys mean business.
32:49The mums and cubs can't rest.
32:55On a still night like this,
32:58demons roar will carry throughout this whole territory.
33:02What he's saying is,
33:04be afraid, be very afraid.
33:20This is when it all starts to get a little bit scary for cheaters,
33:23especially when they're on a fresh kill.
33:28Anna is with Pobé and her cubs.
33:34They still have the kill.
33:35Nothing's coming to take it.
33:38I think that could be something to do with
33:41her smart tactics, which involve basically covering the carcass with dust.
33:46She's trying to cover the scent.
33:49Because when it turns to night,
33:51things start to get a little bit dangerous around here.
33:56At this vital growth stage,
33:59it's essential the cubs eat as much as possible.
34:10I don't know if there's something there.
34:11I don't know if there's something there.
34:11Who knows what predators could be lurking in the shadows.
34:21I don't know if there's something there.
34:25This cub looks really glued to something sage.
34:31Anything could come out of there.
34:35This is quite creepy.
34:45Oh, jackal.
34:48The cubs are essentially learning how to guard their food against animals.
34:54And level one is the lovely jackal.
35:00Jackal doesn't really pose much of a threat for these cubs.
35:37I am super chuffed that Bobby and the cubs have managed to keep hold of this
35:44meal.
35:46Looks like they've got pretty full bellies.
35:49But it's when the big things come in, like lions and leopards,
35:53that's when it's going to get really real for these cubs.
36:21The flood is making it harder for the mums with young cubs to escape.
36:30Nothing quite like crashing through a floodplain.
36:32I don't know.
36:34I don't know.
36:34To stop the advancing rogue boys,
36:37the pride needs both of its dominant males.
36:42Loads of vultures here.
36:44What's going on?
36:45So Greg is searching for big toe.
36:51We've looked in all the regular spots for big toe and come up completely short.
36:57So we're starting to get a little bit desperate.
37:01And we're going to look in areas that we would never normally go.
37:22I think we've got big toe tracks.
37:25Yes.
37:26Finally.
37:33He must be not far from here.
37:36Let's go and find him.
37:44Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
37:48Somebody's up ahead of us.
37:51This is a big male lion just in front of me.
37:57Who is this?
38:02Oh gosh.
38:06Please, please, please, please, please, please.
38:14Come on.
38:15It's big toe.
38:17Yes.
38:20Finally.
38:21What?
38:28The mighty big toe, he's back in the game.
38:36This is an area where I've in fact never seen any of the Quiddum pride before.
38:42And it begs the question, you know, where has big toe been this whole time that he's been missing?
38:53He's had some food recently.
38:56He's looking healthy.
38:57He's looking strong.
38:58Not even a scratch on him.
39:00So he hasn't gotten anywhere near any of the intruders.
39:04But he's definitely on some sort of mission here.
39:10It looks like he's about to cross the water.
39:14I haven't seen him for weeks and it seems like I'm only going to have him for a few minutes.
39:26Come on, big toe, don't do this to me now, please.
39:33I'm just not sure how I'm going to follow him because I don't want to get stuck.
39:41All right, we're going to have to do a big water crossing here.
39:46All in the name of following the mighty big toe.
39:52I'm going to have to get my feet wet.
39:55That's not ideal.
40:08It's flowing.
40:13Not too bad.
40:15We're through.
40:17This is wild.
40:19Trying to keep up with big toe through the fresh flood.
40:22This is not for the faint hearted.
40:31He's just picked up a scent and is following it very intently.
40:37He's sniffing, sniffing, sniffing.
40:39He's trying to find another lion.
40:52Okay, we've just got a visual of other lions now.
41:01Who are these lions?
41:04What's going on here?
41:07It's very, very strange.
41:18I can't believe this.
41:21This is not the Kudum prod.
41:26This is a whole different prod.
41:29It appears that big toe has another pride.
41:35Well, that was unexpected.
41:38At a time when the Kudum prod, you know, needs them the most.
41:43That is a problem.
41:46That is a big problem.
41:50Gordon, Gordon for Greg.
41:53Go, Greg.
41:54Gordon, you are not going to believe this, but I finally found big toe.
41:59He's busy fooling around with other lionesses.
42:01You are kidding me.
42:03Not good.
42:04Not good at all.
42:13Wait a minute.
42:16Looks like there's actually another male here as well.
42:21Oh, no.
42:24This is, in fact,
42:28Maduma.
42:33That is unbelievable.
42:39The dominant males have been dividing their time between the Kudum pride and this new pride.
42:48What's happening is our big males are mating with other lions and that's why we don't see them very often.
42:58While Maduma has been coming and going, big toe has been here.
43:06What's potentially at play here is the fact that amongst the Kudum pride lionesses,
43:11all the older lionesses have cubs at the moment.
43:14And there's a fair chance that all the younger lionesses are related to Maduma and big toe.
43:20In fact, they could be their daughters.
43:22So the mating opportunities within the pride are limited.
43:27That might explain why the boys have gone outside to look for the chance of siring more cubs.
43:37The problem is if they're paying so much attention to other lionesses, they're neglecting the Kudum pride.
43:43And that's why we've had so much drama and chaos.
43:48And that is going to be a very serious risk to those cubs.
43:58The Kudum pride mums have been left to defend their cubs alone from the advancing rogue boys.
44:27Ladeeba the leopard has been searching for her missing cub for almost two days.
44:40The Kudum pride mums have been left to defend their cubs.
44:41Well, she's led us back to one cub.
44:43The Kudum pride mums have been left to defend their cubs.
44:51The Kudum pride mums have been left to defend their cubs.
44:58She is entirely that one's wooled.
45:12She is entirely that one's wooled.
45:23Just one.
45:26I think she's moving it to a new space.
45:32Me and no, Danica.
45:39What the resolve has her been for?
45:47I just hope now, with all her attention focused on a single individual,
45:52that cub stands a better chance of staying alive.
45:57It's still a miracle in itself that she has one healthy, surviving and thriving, really.
46:04And it's a testament to her abilities as a mother.
46:09Ladiba's surviving cub will soon pass this most vulnerable age
46:15and leave the nursery with her when she hunts.
46:27We're going to do our best to follow and watch how her and her cub develop.
46:32She's a proven mother and more than ready for the challenge.
46:50I think she's going to die.
47:08Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go.
47:19Yep, she's done it again.
47:22Pobbe, Pobbe, Pobbe.
47:25These two cubs are insanely lucky that they've got Pobbe as their mum.
47:35Cheetah mum Pobbe has secured her cubs another meal.
47:43As long as she can keep it through another night.
48:02I'm really, really chuffed for Pobbe and the cubs.
48:05She's doing an incredible job at feeding them.
48:12Wait a second.
48:16What has she seen?
48:21Pobbe looks like she's getting into like a weird stalk mode.
48:25She's seen something.
48:33There is something sat about 100 metres from that.
48:43That is big.
48:48Oh, God, I think that's a leopard. That is a male leopard.
48:58Look at me.
48:59It's running in. It's running in.
49:20I think she's trying to lure this leopard away from the cubs.
49:24This feels like a mad move from Pobbe.
49:30This male leopard is one and a half times Pobbe's weight.
49:35If he catches her, he could easily kill her.
49:47She just jumped at it.
49:49She just jumped on the floor to try and make a sound to lure it away.
49:54She's so, so clever.
49:59Pobbe's night vision is not as good as a leopard's.
50:06But she has one clear advantage.
50:10Pobbe is not at her max effort in terms of speed,
50:13but that leopard is really struggling to keep up with her.
50:16This is crazy.
50:17Pobbe is not at her.
50:18It's just a bit more in the 54th place.
50:25This one, I'm sorry.
50:30Are you okay?
50:32You're weeks after a while.
50:33You're late.
50:33You're late.
50:36You're late.
50:38Ready.
50:38Go, you're late.
50:38Bye!
50:38Bye!
50:39Bye!
50:45Bye!
50:50Pobe has diverted the leopard's attention from the cubs.
50:57OK, this leopard is going to the kill.
51:00But not from her meal.
51:06Couldn't catch anything yourself?
51:08You're stealing from a mom and two kids.
51:15He's almost tripping on it as he drags it.
51:18I mean, that is the image of greed right there, tripping on his food.
51:26Off he goes.
51:33That's so annoying.
51:37That must have been terrifying for those cubs.
51:42But what we've seen tonight, Pobe is capable of essentially fighting off a male leopard to protect her cubs.
51:54These are the lengths that a mother cheetah will go to.
52:00What an incredible cat she is.
52:19OK, up ahead we have a cluster of lions.
52:27Gordon is also on the night shift.
52:30We can put the drone up.
52:32Hopefully spot it from the air.
52:35The rogue boys are closing in on the Cudum Pride mums and cubs.
52:43Madumo and Big Toe, they're out of the equation, hanging out with a second pride.
52:50And at some point, these rogue boys, they are going to push towards these cubs.
52:56And that could be tonight.
53:00So wherever Demo goes, I'm just going to keep up with him as best I can.
53:11He's on the trail.
53:13Now, the rogue boys are now close enough to be picking up the female's scent.
53:20Now things are serious.
53:23Demo is making his presence known in sound and in scent.
53:38Yeah, he's belting it out with all his might.
53:50Whoa.
53:55A roar like that just gets you in the belly.
54:02Things are going to escalate.
54:13They're running.
54:16Oi, oi, oi.
54:18I don't want to lose them.
54:22Where have we gone, pals?
54:25Demo just ran off into this forest.
54:31So, at the moment, I've lost them.
54:37The rogue boys have vanished.
54:39Just 500 meters from the mums and young cubs.
54:45I think they've disappeared into this forest.
54:50This is really bad.
55:06After losing the rogue boys in the night, the whole team is out at dawn, searching for lions.
55:14Oh, my gosh.
55:17Oh, my gosh.
55:18Mums.
55:20What a relief.
55:23Anna has found the mums and young cubs.
55:29Okay?
55:30We're all safe.
55:31I can't believe it.
55:33What incredible mums.
55:42Okay.
55:44Everyone's coming to say hi.
55:50Morning, Sibber.
55:52Hi, gorgeous girl.
55:54What a beautiful, aren't you?
55:57Well done for keeping your cubs safe.
56:01Oh, my God.
56:02Back.
56:11What an amazing morning.
56:18This is such, just like a dreamy, tranquil scene.
56:24Anna, Anna, do you copy?
56:26Anna, Anna, Anna, Anna, the road boys are coming towards the mums.
56:35Yeah, Anna, the emo's the right here, and the three sub-adult males.
56:41They're looking super keen in your direction.
56:46The rogue boys are heading straight towards the mums and cubs, and this is exactly what we
56:53don't want to happen.
56:53This is really, really dangerous.
56:58They're trying to pick up scent.
57:01You can see them right now with their noses, their mouth, and then they put their head up
57:06and go.
57:10There's absolutely no chance that these lionesses with this amount of cubs are going to be able
57:17to outrun the rogue boys.
57:18There's no way.
57:27Rhea, Rhea, do you have an update?
57:31Like, 100 metres.
57:32They're super close.
57:33I see them.
57:34I see them.
57:40I see them.
57:43Okay, so I've seen them.
57:44She's seen them.
57:46Oh, they're coming in.
57:47They're coming in.
58:05Oh, they're coming in.
58:16I've never heard a noise like that, ever.
58:20Where are the cubs?
58:24Please don't be bad.
