00:01Previously on Seven Little Johnstons, this is the only dress that I smiled in. I love it a lot.
00:09So how long to order? 12 to 16 weeks. Well that leaves us barely a month to alter. Better late
00:19than never. I am definitely worried for Liz. That is just too tight of a turnaround. These pants.
00:28Are we gonna find a boy this year? You know that's how me and Jonah met. Well yeah, I know
00:34that.
00:34Ashley and Jonah, Alex and Ally, and mom and dad all met at the Little People's Conference.
00:42Word of advice, it'll happen when you least expect it. Your first convention so you get to kind of see
00:49a
00:49world like ours. How do you think Blaine's gonna do on this trip? She does great when we're traveling but
00:55her sleeping on me now since she's so long. I'm not gonna be able to get down in the airplane
01:01seat
01:01and hold her like this because oh my god my back would be. We haven't even boarded and Layton's
01:11already crying. So this is probably going to be a very long plane ride for everyone.
01:25Are you ready for a good time? So fresh catching this fire. We've been on a flight for three hours
01:32now to San Diego. The flight to San Diego was pretty good. Layton slept a little bit,
01:43but overall her temperament and demeanor was awesome. She played, she ate a lot. It was a very easy flight.
01:56So we have officially arrived in San Diego and we're all pretty pumped and excited for this year's conference.
02:18Hey guys. How are you? Good. How are you? It's been way too long. We're at a winery to get
02:27a taste of some wines possibly for our wedding and also I will be asking Dacey and Carol to be
02:32my
02:33bridesmaids. Gosh, it's been since Layton's birthday since we've seen each other. Time flies.
02:38Last time I saw you at Austin. I was pregnant. Oh yeah. So you get to see Layton. Jonah was
02:43like,
02:43you're not pregnant this time, right? And I said, no, no, Jonah, no. Now maybe next time.
02:49Welcome in. How familiar are we in the wine world if you don't mind me asking?
02:52She's probably the best house. I only know Stella Rose and Bear Flute. No worries. It still counts as
02:58wine. Don't worry about it. My knowledge about wine is that it's old and made out of grapes and it
03:03looks fancy when you twirl it. My wine tasting came from the college, Carol, living off the college,
03:08you know, dorm budget and hitting up the deals every week for wine. I'm not going to get a lie.
03:13We're
03:13more like beer people. We are clueless to wine knowledge. I know wine as much as Carol has brought wine
03:20to
03:20my house and that's about it for me. We'll go with what you think we should start off with and
03:27then
03:27we'll kind of grow from that. Yeah. First bottle there, it's going to be something really light
03:31and refreshing. There's still a decent amount of acidity in there. This is a Chardonnay and I'll
03:37get a little dump bucket for you. If it's not for you, we won't be offended or if you're looking
03:40forward to that next pour. Well, I should. As you age it, it's going to be turning some of that
03:44acidity
03:45into a little bit of a butteriness. I don't know. I'm sorry. It's not terrible.
03:53I said, hell no. Are you drinking another sip? Yeah. I got to make sure I don't like it.
03:56I'll go ahead and drink it. No, no, no. Oh my God. I'm not going to be able to carry
04:00you
04:00for a minute. He was throwing them back and I was like, sip, sip, dump the bucket. Sip, sip,
04:06dump the bucket. He was like, I'm going to finish it. That's just me. If we try something,
04:11I want to finish it. I just don't want to throw it away. Cheers. Cheers. With this one, you have
04:16Pet Nat. So there's a lot of small bubbles. It'll seem creamy. It's better than the first one. Enjoy
04:21this wine. I'll be back whenever you're ready for the next one. Thank you. You're welcome. So I want
04:25to hear all about the engagement. Okay. I want to see engagement pictures. I love that. Look at
04:31Bryce's face. You can tell he loves it. Since we're having our wedding in our backyard, I'll say, oh,
04:35Stuart knew the river. The river was where a lot of our dating life was. Yes. How'd you know she
04:41was
04:41the catch? What's your favorite candy? Have you ever been arrested? How many kids you want? Are you
04:46going to marry her? You made Liz, boy. Those were fun ones he wanted to do, but our real ones.
04:53That's
04:54so fun. They were both very cute. I think it shows both of their fun sides and their sweet sides.
05:00I'm all about the camo and the hunting. It matches their vibe. If we had done pictures,
05:05based off our vibe, it had been in a McDonald's drive-thru, like sharing a number seven meal.
05:10So I think their photos really match their personality, especially as a couple.
05:15Have y'all set a date? We have. No one breath. Four months away. We're doing it in mom and
05:21dad's
05:21backyard because it's going to be under 100 people. The backyard wedding? It can be really pretty.
05:26Yeah. Speaking of weddings, I am super excited to be asking Carol and Dacey to be my bridesmaids,
05:34and I cannot wait to see what they have to say. I would love for you guys to be my
05:39bridesmaids.
05:51Hey, guys. Got some gloves for everybody. Oh, yeah. They all go on your left hand. They're gigantic,
05:57but it'll keep the bird's talons off your arms. It's always fun to explore the city that you're in
06:04each year. So we found a falconry exhibit and decided to go see what this is about.
06:09Guys, welcome to Total Raptor Experience. Our whole purpose is to share wild animals with
06:14you guys and let you observe them and interact with them. This is Ali. She is a four-year-old
06:18female lantern falcon. And these guys are raptors. Raptors are these oddities of nature that hunt
06:24with their back feet, like hawks and owls and eagles and falcons. You've got these really sharp,
06:28crazy talons on their back feet. And that's all about grabbing the prey. So we'll have Ali hang
06:34out with you guys on your gloves, you know, waiting for the bird to hopefully stick the landing
06:39on your arm and nowhere else on your body because we have been informed about the talons that they
06:45have. Hopefully it lands on the glove and not our arms. So here's one of our hawk ambassadors. So
06:51what we're going to do is have you guys be some friendly saguaro cactus. Point your gloves straight
06:56at the bird. Incoming. That whole time he was flying sideways. Yeah, when they're going downwind,
07:03they got to fly like a helicopter and beat their wings really hard just to stay up.
07:07It was pretty scary at first. We don't have the longest arms. So when this bird lands and we have
07:14our arms out, it is closer to our face than the average person that does this. You look like you're
07:20ready
07:20to go. Point your gloves straight at the bird. And then you have to look at the bird's perspective
07:27too. Like, how often does this bird see little people? So it's probably like, what in the hell
07:34have I signed up for? Logan, right here, bud. You're a good bird. I, for one, have never worked with
07:42little people before. But the fact that the folks today had relatively short arms actually made it
07:47easier. You want your arm in close to you anyway. You know, it makes it much easier to hold the
07:51bird.
07:52The bird's more comfortable because it's nice and safe. And I think it's actually an advantage.
07:56This is what they do out in the desert. They just go from cactus to cactus.
07:59The funniest to watch the bird land on is probably Ashley. She talks kind of like,
08:06you're a good bird. Ashley's face. She was like, very scared. I mean, it comes at you and you kind
08:15of jerk. But I mean,
08:16it wasn't like abrasive or anything. It didn't like hurt.
08:23So will you be my bridesmaids? It would be an honor to stand by your side. I say yes. Yes.
08:32We say yes to being bridesmaid. She said yes.
08:35We've been Elizabeth's closest friends for a while. We've always talked about marriage and kids. So it's like a small
08:41part of us that knew it was coming. And just being able to stand up there besides someone you care
08:45that much about on the biggest day of their life is just, it's so cool to see.
08:49Bryce, if you could have one thing at the wedding, what would you want?
08:53Well, I was really looking forward to dancing with my daughter.
08:56Oh, yes. Yeah, not me.
08:59Of course you, but I don't know.
09:02Bryce, you didn't tell me you had some dancing issues.
09:04I gotta have nine drinks with me before I do that.
09:06That's why we're having an open bar.
09:09So I have our next bar. This is going to be another natural wine. It's going to be something that
09:14is not filtered.
09:15They don't add any yeast to start the fermentation process.
09:18It was cool to hear about how they made their wines.
09:23It's going to be something that's a little bit more balanced.
09:25You're not going to have anything that's like really dry or overwhelming on there.
09:29It's fruit forward, you know, you get more like fresh fruits like berries.
09:33That's going to give you some aroma there.
09:34It's nice to learn.
09:36Follow-up question.
09:36Stuff like that.
09:38Describe me one of the wines and his exact words of how he told you where the wine was made
09:43from and how.
09:44I couldn't tell you that.
09:44Please.
09:45Big bubbles are going to be a little bit more metallic.
09:47A decent amount of acidity as far as just being oaked.
09:51Very little to no sulfites.
09:52Fermenting the wine.
09:53The color that's imposed by the grapes.
09:55What?
09:55I was listening to him and it was cool.
09:57Then tell me.
09:58I can't tell you.
09:59Exactly.
10:00But it was neat.
10:01You were too buzzed.
10:04You good?
10:05No, I don't.
10:05Babe, we still got more to go.
10:07I'm just going to get a little bit.
10:09You like that one a lot.
10:13So, Emma.
10:14Yeah.
10:15Have you found a guy yet?
10:16Oh, yeah.
10:17I thought you were supposed to help me.
10:17I know.
10:18I was supposed to help you.
10:19I know.
10:20Are you scoping?
10:22You found anybody?
10:22I'm definitely scoping, yeah.
10:24Is there anybody, like, on the radar?
10:26No.
10:26No?
10:27No.
10:28I've been all over the place just saying hey to everyone.
10:32We just got to get past the friend zone one year.
10:36We make a lot of friends.
10:38We got to get to second base.
10:41Elizabeth has no idea what the bases are.
10:44Figuratively, her and Bryce have ran them off.
10:49I'll help you tonight.
10:51We'll see if you do.
10:53First base in dating.
10:55I don't know.
10:56First date.
10:58It's introducing each other.
11:01Talking.
11:02First base is kissing.
11:03Second base is touching and feeling.
11:06Getting to second base is meeting the parents.
11:10I guess doing it.
11:12Then what would third base be?
11:14Marriage.
11:15Third base is telling each other that we love each other.
11:20It's more touching.
11:22A higher level of touching.
11:23And then home run, obviously, is sex.
11:28Getting married.
11:29He's still innocent.
11:32I mean, was I close?
11:33No.
11:34Oh.
11:35Look at where you want to move to and then find a dude that lives there in LPA.
11:40That's true.
11:41That's how you do it.
11:42You want that Cali boy?
11:43That'd be really hard.
11:45Long distance.
11:46Yeah.
11:47Long distance is hard regardless.
11:48Whether you're 200 miles or 5,000, I mean, a phone call is a phone call and FaceTime's FaceTime.
11:54That's true.
11:55Yeah.
11:56Me and Ashley right now are only three and a half hours.
12:00That's not bad.
12:01Honestly, I would like to get out of North Carolina.
12:05I think it would do me some good.
12:07I don't want to be so far from home, though.
12:11I mean, you don't have to.
12:12But two and a half hours, two hours.
12:14My family is a big part of my life.
12:16Ashley finishes up school in December, so, you know, those are things that we've thought about
12:21and are going to actually put into action, you know, after this year.
12:26Whether Ashley and I live in North Carolina or Georgia or somewhere else,
12:31we've worked so hard to get to this point and maintain consistency and maintain a healthy relationship away.
12:37And that alone is hard to do.
12:39So, when you get to the point where you have the privilege to live with your significant other,
12:45I won't take it for granted.
12:47Watch this.
12:48This is Ali coming right at us right here.
12:50Hop!
12:50Oh, yeah.
12:51Come on, kiddo!
12:53All right, guys.
12:53Here we go.
12:54Hop!
12:56Ho!
12:57Nice hit, sweetheart.
12:59Nice hit.
13:00So, you see what she did?
13:00She just knocked it out, let it fall, came back for it.
13:03She killed her little prize.
13:04So.
13:06I thought it was cool.
13:07I can go back to my kids and be like,
13:09hey, look, your teacher held a falcon.
13:12Let me give you some tips and some facts.
13:16One more before we leave.
13:17What was that one?
13:18I know you want to do a, what would you, a flush?
13:20What did you say it was called?
13:21A flight.
13:22I'm going to be flushed once I get all this.
13:24We ready for our next one?
13:26We do a flight and you pick.
13:28A whole flight?
13:29Yeah.
13:29Yeah.
13:30We'll go out with a bang.
13:32Makes sense.
13:32Yeah, that'll be five different pours there on that flight.
13:35I got to keep it going because we got a party tonight.
13:38Like, I've always wanted, I've never, this is my first, like, alcoholic flight.
13:42I've always done the coffee flights.
13:43When I hear flight, I'm like, oh my God, I got to do it.
13:46Off the wall, on the floor, move to your body, can't move anymore, and let the champagne
13:51pour, fill up your glasses.
13:53Oh, I got buzzed off that wine.
13:55Because we had, like, eight, nine different wines.
13:58Yeah, and I was drinking it, wasn't it?
13:59Yeah.
14:00It actually looks like beer.
14:01Oh, that's your type.
14:03They're all starting to taste the same.
14:04Oh my God.
14:05They really are.
14:07At this point, I don't even know what I'm tasting anymore.
14:10Not in a bad way, though.
14:12It's just my taste buds are, like, they're confused.
14:16Hey, more.
14:17More.
14:18More?
14:19Yeah, more for me.
14:20Bryce and I are going to have to hold each other's hand walking down the street.
14:26What are me and Zach going to do?
14:27Watch from afar.
14:30I am so happy I got to watch Liz and Bryce fall in love, and they have a year until
14:34they
14:34get married, so hopefully I don't find a plus one.
14:36There you go.
14:38Come on, Daisy.
14:39They have four months.
14:40I got to get on it.
14:42That's not a year.
14:44Go ahead.
14:44Shoot.
14:45You didn't drink too much wine.
14:46No, I didn't.
14:48So, yeah, four months to find a plus one.
14:51Wish me luck.
14:51Wish me luck.
14:59This is my moment.
15:01My moment right here.
15:02Right here.
15:03All eyes on me as I make my premiere.
15:06So, we are three days into this conference, and there has already been a whole lot
15:10going on between workshops, dancing, partying.
15:14So, during these conferences, Amber and I try to slip off.
15:17We need some downtime.
15:21If you're wanting to do conference every year, I'll just send you, because the kids are all
15:26adults.
15:27In my mind, it's kind of like, I don't have to do it for them anymore.
15:31So, I'll just do every few years.
15:36The days of our entire family having to go aren't really necessary.
15:40You know, they're all adults.
15:41Back when they were 14, 15 years old, we would always tell them, don't do stupid stuff, and
15:46don't leave the hotel without telling me.
15:48Now, they go off and do their own thing.
15:50So, if they want to go on their own, they're at the age now where they can do it.
15:54I think Alex and Allie are having a good time.
15:58I think they are.
15:59It looks like they are.
16:00Yeah.
16:01So, Alex and Allie in the past have had challenges navigating long-distance relationships.
16:07Bye.
16:08I love you.
16:09I love you.
16:11Oh, yeah, there's tears.
16:14Navigating relationships, period, because for Alex and Allie both, this is their first
16:19relationship.
16:20I just got off the phone with Allie, and she said we would focus on being friends.
16:24We've just gotten mad and snippy at each other for stupid reasons.
16:28How are you feeling?
16:29I'm a little upset just because I still love her.
16:32But they have worked through those things, and they are at a good place.
16:40Always good to have a recipe in front of you when you're cooking, just because things move
16:45really fast, and you don't want to forget anything.
16:48I want you to be working on the fish.
16:51Today, we are making some fish tacos and some homemade salsa.
16:56San Diego is known for, like, their seafood in general, and I like seafood, so I'm looking
17:02forward to this cooking class.
17:04You want to listen.
17:05You want to smell.
17:06You want to use all your senses, because that's what helps you with the food, okay?
17:10Okay.
17:12All right, so you like to cook?
17:14Yes, I love cooking.
17:15What's your favorite thing to cook?
17:17Um, probably, I don't know.
17:21What do I like?
17:23Like chili?
17:24Yeah.
17:25Skyline chili?
17:26Yeah.
17:26I heard to that place.
17:27I haven't been, though.
17:28I love it there.
17:29Her favorite foods are, like, pastas.
17:32She likes steaks.
17:33She has not, like, a diverse palate, but she's, like, open to trying new things.
17:36We can go out and enjoy a meal together.
17:41Just don't press too hard, because you won't be able to get it out, okay?
17:44Okay.
17:45All right, perfect.
17:45So, you're coming to the fair in, like, two weeks.
17:49Yeah, it seems like a lot of fun from what you've told me in the past.
17:52It's really fun, yeah.
17:54So, Allie's family always goes to this county fair at the end of the summer, where they
17:58show animals, and this will be my first time joining their family.
18:03It'll be bittersweet.
18:04This is my last fair.
18:06Yeah, like, this is the last time you'll be showing pigs.
18:08Yeah, I've been showing for 13 years.
18:11Wow.
18:11That's crazy to think about.
18:15So, like, what showing a pig is, basically, is where, like, Allie has to walk a pig around
18:20this arena.
18:21So, you kind of just have to show every angle of the pig and make sure that one stands out
18:25versus the other ones in the arena.
18:27Are you wanting to show a pig?
18:29Maybe if you teach me a little bit, maybe I'll show someone in the open class.
18:34So, I guess I can show a pig, but I really do not want to embarrass myself in front of
18:38Allie's
18:38whole family.
18:41So, are you nervous about fair?
18:43Any?
18:44The pig's going to be in a new environment or a new space.
18:48At fair, I'm afraid that they're going to run when I show them.
18:52Have your other pigs done before?
18:53Oh, yeah.
18:54I've always had at least one pig.
18:57One.
19:01Alex, Emma, and I are going to be heading to Ohio.
19:04You know, when I'm up there, I'll probably talk to Karen and Adam about what do they see
19:10the future for Allie and kind of our thoughts on what we see in the future for Alex.
19:16I don't see Allie coming down here to live.
19:19No.
19:20Alex will be our first child to move out of state.
19:24And of course, you know, we are worried, especially being a little person, moving.
19:28You do, as a parent, want to make sure that your kid's going to be accepted and comfortable
19:34and know he is going to be taken care of.
19:39I will say Alex loves life up there.
19:43And what Alex is going to college for, he can do anywhere.
19:49Broadcasting, television, there's so much television now in the farm.
19:53Farming.
19:54It's crazy.
19:55I know, it's on our TV quite frequently.
19:57By the end of next year, I should be done with it on my college, my first four years of
20:01college.
20:01I get a master's at Ohio State or something, and I would love to help out in the farm like
20:05I did for harvest.
20:06Yeah, we would love that.
20:08We could always use an extra set of hands.
20:10You know, obviously, they've been dating for a while, but they're going to have to navigate
20:15a full-time relationship.
20:18Trent and I had to do the same thing.
20:19We were three years long distance, and then it became, like, all the time.
20:24When you move in together and you share the same bathroom, the same bed, the same toothpaste,
20:30and somebody didn't wash the dishes out in the sink, it's a different relationship that
20:34you're learning.
20:35All right, cheers.
20:36Taco time.
20:44That's really good.
20:46Overall, this cooking class went really well.
20:48The fish tacos were a success, but now I'm thinking about pigs.
20:52Will I be able to successfully show one off at the fair?
21:07We've had a great week at conference, but before we head home, we are going to fit in
21:13one last event.
21:16All right.
21:17Are you guys ready?
21:19Here we go.
21:24And just like that, your 30,000-pound bus should be getting my phone.
21:29We're in the water.
21:30Oh, my God.
21:40How do they get up there?
21:42Underwater, a sea lion can go about 35 miles an hour.
21:46So they just get going, and they just jump right up.
22:17So the boat tour, it's exciting.
22:19We're in San Diego than I do in my own town that I live in.
22:22Last night was fun.
22:23Jonah and Josh did fantastic at the talent show.
22:27Yeah, that was really good.
22:28Jonah's dancing.
22:32Last night was our last night of conference, and it was the talent show.
22:37So I, along with a good friend of mine, Josh, we decided to do a rendition of the Blues Brothers.
22:44Unfortunately, cameras aren't allowed during the week of conference, but people often film
22:49on their phones.
22:55I go to conferences to see friends and catch up, and I think that's the biggest thing I
23:01look forward to each year.
23:03She's played with lots of little kids.
23:06She's so cute.
23:07Like, she goes up to little kids.
23:08She's interacted a lot.
23:10Yeah.
23:10I don't know.
23:11That's good.
23:13Layton enjoyed her first conference.
23:15Layton, obviously, it's a sightseeing, doing different things around San Diego,
23:20Children's Museum, really just a lot of walking and strolling with Layton, because she enjoys
23:27that.
23:28Bryce, this is a good experience.
23:30I've never been to anything like this before, and it was just cool to experience, get to
23:35see all the different things they do at conference, and, you know, seeing a lot of her friends.
23:41And I did get to do some fishing, and it was super fun to catch fish off the West Coast.
23:50Oh, look!
23:52So, San Diego has been fun, but knowing that we have to get home to wedding plan is exhausting.
24:00Wedding planning is big stress.
24:16Brice.
24:17Yeah?
24:18We got our Save the Dates in, but apparently I ordered a puzzle piece, so I'm going to show
24:21you how we're going to do this, okay?
24:23You got to get your multi-tasking skills.
24:26Stick the Save the Dates in, take our initials, put it in the middle, flip it, and put our return
24:33address in the top left corner.
24:36Done.
24:38Now that we're home from conference, it is time for us to get into wedding planning mode.
24:43Since we're less than four months away, the people that we want to be a part of our wedding
24:47is really our family, and we are planning to have the wedding in my parents' backyard.
24:54Don't bend it up.
24:57Be gentle.
25:00Yeah.
25:02Are we doing all these?
25:03At least let's just get through this stack.
25:07Good Lord.
25:09If Bryce does a great job with the Save the Dates, he may run the bases, or he can just
25:14sit out in the dugout, because that's how life has been lately for us, so.
25:19Sitting in the dugout's lane.
25:20We have a kid, and we're busy.
25:23You even said, just wait to do it on our wedding night.
25:25I said, okay, so guess what?
25:27We're benched for a while.
25:30Don't you think they look pretty, by the way?
25:32Why didn't you choose the hunting or fishing photos?
25:34Because these are our save-the-dates, and I'll save those pictures for our wedding website.
25:40Look, you see, I am sticking with the hunting, hunter-man.
25:43You see the background?
25:43That's the woods.
25:45We're getting married outside the place where you hunt, and you should be happy.
25:48November's one of your favorite months out of the year.
25:50So, the inspiration that I have for this wedding is pretty much just a fall outdoor wedding.
25:56Luckily, our trees will be changing colors, so the trees will give us that natural orange
26:01and yellowy vibe to add to the fall weather.
26:04And I said, have fun with the flower colors, since the bridesmaids and the groomsmen will
26:09be on the darker side of the colors.
26:11And I said, just make it, you know, like a fun, outdoor, but beautiful ceremony.
26:17I like whatever Elizabeth likes.
26:22Tomorrow is a big day for us, because we get to meet with Julie.
26:26And remember, Julie did Layton's birthday party and the baby shower.
26:31She'll be doing all the flowers and stuff for ours.
26:34Layton's birth month flowers and not flowers for the wedding, so she has some significance.
26:39Here are some of the ideas that she showed as far as, like, our tent.
26:46This is the mock-up.
26:47That's what she's going to go over us with tomorrow, of how she'll have everything down in the field.
26:52That looks good.
26:53So, tomorrow, we will be walking through with our wedding planner and also my parents
26:58to see if we can bring my wedding vision that I sent to the wedding planner to life in the
27:04backyard.
27:06So, bridesmaids' dresses have been ordered since all my bridesmaids were asked.
27:10And so, those dresses are supposed to get here September 9th.
27:13So, that way, I can get girls altered.
27:16But we got to get you scheduled for picking out your style of suit.
27:20Is camouflage and good color to use?
27:23No.
27:24I don't know any wedding dress code that includes camo attire.
27:28But with Elizabeth dating Bryce, it should not be as shocking if he proposes that idea.
27:36He married somebody.
27:37He had a kid with somebody.
27:40If camo's the deal breaker now, he did a lot of things wrong.
27:43I just know to tell you to do brown or black, brown and black, because the girls' dresses are brown.
27:48What's going to be brown?
27:50Your belt, your shoes, your tie, your, um...
27:53That tie's going to be brown?
27:54Yeah.
27:55Would that look good?
27:55Not black.
27:56Uh-huh, it does.
27:57That picture that I showed you.
27:58Pull up your phone.
27:59Brown tie, brown belt, brown shoes.
28:03It all comes together.
28:04That doesn't look too...
28:06So, I want to make Liz happy, but I want to find a way to bring some camouflage in this
28:12wedding.
28:15And then once everybody gets all their clothes and stuff, it's just the whole altering phase.
28:19The timing is definitely the hardest part about this whole wedding thing.
28:23How, like, when you buy something, it takes this many weeks.
28:26That's been, I feel like, the biggest struggle so far.
28:29Yeah.
28:29Because I did.
28:29It was June when I went dress shopping.
28:31And the dress won't be here until towards the end of September.
28:34Uh-huh.
28:35Yeah.
28:36We all have maybe five weeks to get the dress altered and pray that they do it absolutely
28:43correct.
28:44Yeah.
28:45It's a little nerve-wracking waiting on this dress because I want our seamstress to take
28:50her time with this dress.
28:51I don't want her to feel rushed and then accidents happen to the dress.
28:55We have to whack off a lot of it and keep all of the designs with it.
29:00Can I get married to you in this?
29:02That would be awful.
29:03We have a beautiful wedding, and then I show up in something like this.
29:07You need to start practicing your vows, though, to help you become more comfortable speaking
29:12it.
29:13Still nervous about the whole thing.
29:15You voted for us to do our own vows.
29:17Well, I figured it'd make you more happier and...
29:21No, see, and that's the thing.
29:22You're focusing it more on me.
29:24It's about us.
29:25And I figured it'd make it more valuable to our wedding.
29:29More valuable?
29:34More...
29:35I can't wait to hear your vows.
29:36More entertaining.
29:38More...
29:38That's better.
29:40More...
29:40Intimate is the word.
29:43With Bryce wanting to write his own vows, I think it makes it a more personal wedding ceremony.
29:48That's what he wants.
29:49He's definitely gonna mention hunting and fishing.
29:53I have a feeling it'll come up pretty often.
29:55Oh, yeah.
29:57It's time to get rocking and rolling since vacation's over.
30:00We still got a lot to do.
30:19Oh.
30:22Miss Julie.
30:23Hey!
30:24Hey!
30:24How are you?
30:25How are you?
30:27So good to see you.
30:28Good to see you, too.
30:29Wedding!
30:30We didn't get the memo to match.
30:31Y'all are.
30:32Did y'all plan this?
30:32Even the shoes.
30:33No, they did.
30:34Look at the shoes, too.
30:35Oh, my goodness.
30:36You do that.
30:37I love it.
30:38I am my mother's daughter.
30:40Obviously, we live in two different homes, and we get dressed in two different houses.
30:45It was not planned, but it makes a great official wedding planning outfit.
30:51Liz is definitely like a mini mom.
30:53I've gotten the mix up before.
30:55I was like, Mom, and then it was Elizabeth.
30:57Like, oops.
30:58You ready to plan?
31:00Yeah.
31:00Let's go see it.
31:01I've already told Bryce the best way to get through this is to say yes, whatever you
31:05want, honey.
31:06It looks great.
31:07Oh, I think that's fabulous.
31:08So Julie and I have been having a lot of talks with each other in regards to planning this
31:13wedding down in my parents' field, and we've shared lots of inspirations and stuff, but
31:17she wants to get the real view and to start nailing down where all of our big items will
31:22be.
31:22So, because we did a little mock-up of everything.
31:26So, tent here.
31:28How big of a tent?
31:29It's a 66 by 43 sailcloth tent, which has like the wood poles and is really pretty.
31:36And so this, the reception tent is going to house people eating dinner.
31:41It's where most of the people are going to be for that night.
31:44And it's going to house the dance floor and the DJ.
31:48This should be plenty of room.
31:49This tree right here is probably my only concern.
31:52So, you see, that tree's getting ready to come down for liability purposes.
31:55Yes.
31:56Yes, but we probably need to go ahead and get rid of this tree.
31:58This is a beautiful oak, and that's a sweet gum.
32:00Well, then take both of them out.
32:03I guess a two-hour wedding is more important than a 50-year-old tree.
32:07So, we have to take down definitely two trees.
32:11But when you ask me, I'm like, oh gosh, we had dead trees down here.
32:15I have about four trees that need to come down.
32:18So, what I'm thinking, though, as far as like guests, because we're going to have golf carts to bring even
32:25like the grandparents and stuff down.
32:26Multi-passenger carts.
32:28This is where the golf carts can drop the people, the bridal party off, come out, and then head up
32:35that way.
32:37What do you think?
32:38I think that would be good.
32:39The distance from the house to the pavilion is about 250 yards, which totals out to two and a half
32:47football fields.
32:48The field itself is two and a half acres.
32:52That's maybe one football field.
32:54So, we have the space to host Elizabeth and Bryce's wedding.
32:59However, we're going to have to bring in a lot of added equipment to make this dream wedding for Elizabeth
33:07and host 70-plus guests.
33:11I think we had planned to have a little bit of a seating area, maybe.
33:16Yeah, around the fire pit.
33:18I've always wanted to have flagstones done around the pavilion.
33:21So, that's going to look literally 100 times nicer.
33:25That'll be great.
33:26And then our bar is a custom bar, which I'm really excited about.
33:30It's going to go around the tent pole.
33:32That'll be nice.
33:33It's a 360 bar to help with space.
33:36Yeah.
33:36And we have like a multi-height bar, too.
33:38Nice.
33:39I always want to make sure I have options for everybody because even though it is an LP wedding, there's
33:45still, you know, normal height people there.
33:47So, I want to make sure I have things at different heights, but it all still has the same flow.
33:51Definitely don't want anything, a bar height stool or anything that's going to be uncomfortable.
33:56You don't want to see anybody in a formal dress trying to climb a big chair.
33:59So, we're going to make sure we have something for everyone.
34:02The actual ceremony is going to be where you see that little hill.
34:08Come on, Dad, let's practice.
34:10You have to walk slow.
34:11I don't mean Elizabeth.
34:12Slow.
34:12Your music.
34:13And Dad, I'm like kind of bending my back.
34:17I might have to wear flats with him.
34:20Little people, well, specifically achondroplasia, having short arms and them both being very broad-shouldered and teeter-tottering.
34:29A little bit where you walk with the sway.
34:31Yeah.
34:31Dad, I cannot do it like that.
34:33You've got to be under.
34:36Dad's like, we can hold hands.
34:37I'm like, I cannot hold hands with my father walking down the aisle.
34:40That's what we cannot do.
34:42Dad and I are going to have to, you know, do some more practice walking down our aisle.
34:49I feel like we're such a comfy-dumpty.
34:51Where's the very back row of seating going to be?
34:54Where is your arches going to be?
34:56On top of the hill.
34:56On top of the hill.
34:58Okay, so.
34:59Really?
34:59How about you're building a platform?
35:02I really don't know if this just plays into my dad's brain stuff or if it's just, you know, my
35:06dad being my dad.
35:07But when he had this conversation about putting the platform and the arches on the hill, I was like, no.
35:13I remember you telling me that you just want to build a platform to put the arches on.
35:18Never about we're going to set it on the hill and I'm about to hike up an address up the
35:22hill.
35:24Daddy, you said platform.
35:26So you're walking through the arches?
35:27No, you're not walking through the arches.
35:29No.
35:29Daddy, you're the one that said this idea.
35:31Dad, not daddy.
35:31Well, dad, remember you said you were going to do a platform and that you were just using this hill
35:36to make your focal point for the arches.
35:39Okay, so just the arches are going to be on the hill.
35:42No, dad, dad, dad.
35:44Nothing's on the hill.
35:46Y'all making this too confused.
35:48We are talking through the wedding plan and it is clear that there is confusion with Trent.
35:53If he wants it to be a certain way, that's when he is going to be tunneled.
35:57Or maybe I was left out of the last 72 text messages or planning of where things were going.
36:05You're not left out.
36:06Maybe you didn't listen or pay attention.
36:11So this flat spot right here is where you're going to want to put it.
36:14Look at me.
36:15Don't, we ain't going backwards.
36:17You got to look at the center of this.
36:19This is where everybody's going.
36:20I don't like the way you're being.
36:21Come on, dad.
36:22I'm not being anything.
36:23This is what I'm looking to.
36:24Dad, I'm literally just telling you our conversation we had before.
36:27There's a lot of confusion, a lot of back and forth from the peanut gallery.
36:30Somebody just needs to take the lead.
36:33And at the end of the day, if we're not using the top of this hill for the ceremony, why
36:38are we in this location?
36:39It is the most unlevel piece of ground in this three-acre field.
36:58So we're at my parents' house on their property, and we're doing a walkthrough with our wedding planner, Julie.
37:05And there's still some confusion where everything's going to be placed.
37:09And that confusion comes from Trey Johnston.
37:12Go show me where you want the arches going to be.
37:14I remember you saying you just wanted to use this for the focal point.
37:18Platform, big triangle, two little triangles.
37:21And then she decorates it awesome with flowers.
37:23Oh, yeah.
37:24So we know we're doing a platform.
37:26Anything that could create a trip hazard, we want to avoid.
37:31That big slump right there needs to get filled in.
37:33We have a hole here and a hole here that has to get filled in.
37:35Definitely, yeah.
37:37Flat ground as we can do is going to be best.
37:39So really, the platform, like, low.
37:42Like, lower than the graduation one.
37:44Two by four.
37:45Four inches.
37:45Yeah, four inches, I think, is good.
37:47That's the most.
37:48When Elizabeth and Bryce decided to get married in the field, Elizabeth and I looked at wedding arches.
37:54And we have chosen one Elizabeth likes.
37:57However, I have not planned on building a platform.
38:01We talked about it.
38:03All of the needs is falling back on that, and we, the deadline cannot be pushed.
38:10It doesn't, it is not changing.
38:12So it's do or die.
38:13You got some things to do.
38:15You got a list.
38:16Right?
38:16He always does.
38:17Just send me a text.
38:18Okay, you want me to send this text to you?
38:21If you want to.
38:22Okay.
38:23Trent's daddy do list.
38:25Yes.
38:25So trees, wedding arches, platforms, flagstones, holes.
38:30And I have a pile of dirt right here.
38:34So I guess if I do, like, two wheelbarrows a day, from now until November, I might get it done.
38:40So Bryce, how do you feel about it?
38:42I'm just going with whatever, honestly.
38:44Wise man, wise man.
38:46I love it.
38:47The truth is, November 8th is deer hunting season.
38:51Oh, yeah.
38:51And this is where they normally deer hunt.
38:53Oh, that's shot for the season.
38:55So it's shot.
38:55Yeah.
38:56I'm glad that I was here for the walk around, just so I can get an idea.
39:00Because I wouldn't want to be clueless when that wedding comes.
39:05But just standing out here, looking at the river right beside us, it's like, dang, you know, I could be
39:10fishing here, too.
39:12But it's more important to always make the wife, fiancee happy.
39:18You see this great big tree right here with the low branches?
39:20Okay, yeah.
39:20Yeah.
39:21If Bryce put his deer stand up there, and while everybody comes down the aisle, Bryce is like, oh, shoot.
39:28And he comes out of the stand and walks over to the wedding party.
39:31Everyone that's going to be here, they know this guy.
39:33They know he lives for his family and then hunting and fishing.
39:39Some of that might not be in the right order, but his tux jacket could be real tree camo.
39:45And then when he gets up there, he takes it off, turns it inside out, and puts it on, and
39:49then he sends it.
39:50I mean, people would love it.
39:52I need him to be focused.
39:54And I don't need him breaking his neck coming out of a deer stand.
39:57Oh, I'm super careful coming down.
39:59No, we're not doing it.
40:00That's such a good idea.
40:02No.
40:03Where will your kitchen tent be?
40:05Over here?
40:06Yeah.
40:06Yeah, we're probably going to put that right here.
40:08Well, so now we do have an issue because Amy is not going to let me have a bathroom near
40:13her food.
40:14I thought about the bathroom being in that cutout.
40:17Those tools and all that stuff will not be there.
40:19Hold on.
40:19Let me add another thing to your list, Trent.
40:22Move tools.
40:25So we are excited about this wedding.
40:27However, we are realizing that wedding planning is crazy.
40:32And that this, what we thought was a small, intimate wedding, is a lot bigger than we thought it was
40:37going to be.
40:37You got to have power.
40:39You got to have power back there.
40:41We have water down here, right?
40:43It is the true realization that this is going to be a lot in order to transform the field into
40:50a wedding venue.
40:51And a lot of these things that need to get done are physical things that need to be constructed, built.
40:57Which obviously cost a lot of money.
40:59It can become overwhelming.
41:01I said we walk back up to the house because the longer we stay down here, the longer Dad's list
41:05gets.
41:06We're ready.
41:07The list is only going to get longer.
41:11Next time on Seven Little Johnstons.
41:13This weekend, me and my mom are all visiting my girlfriend, Allie, in Ohio.
41:18And tap on it like my shoulders.
41:21Allie is going to teach me how to show my first pig at the county fair.
41:25I am the only LP going to stop as easy as it looks.
41:36Going to the fair, I kind of expected, like, the people to stare at us, take pictures of us, and,
41:42like, whisper about us.
41:43Like, that's just to be expected whenever we go into a big outing like that.
41:48You're wrong.
41:48We should be able to enjoy a carnival just like everyone else, but we can't.
41:53I don't feel safe.
41:55Yeah.
41:55I hate it over here.
41:59Hi, dear.
41:59Welcome home.
42:01Proposal came in for Elizabeth's wedding.
42:04I got to sit down for this one.
42:06It's a lot more than what we will be able to do.
42:11If we could talk to Elizabeth and Bryce and see if you could at least cut 35% and it
42:17not completely change the look of the wedding.
42:22This is a lot to have to cut from the wedding budget, and hopefully, you know, Elizabeth doesn't freak out.
